What Christmas Movie Deserves a Marathon Run on TV? Posted: 24 Dec 2015 09:30 PM PST Eventually, the tradition of watching A Christmas Story over and over and over during one night of the holiday season is going to be holiday canon. Just as you can't celebrate the birth of Jesus without a decorated tree and stockings and eggnog, you won't be able to ignore Bob Clark's 1983 classic. There will be songs about it, like "Oh, A Christmas Story," and "Simply Having a Wonderful Christmas Story Marathon Viewing TIme," and there will also be a Claymation special where Rudolph is all upset because DirecTV is in a standoff with TBS and he can't watch the movie even once let alone 12 times. A Christmas Story is great. It's a national treaure as much as it's a Christmas staple. In fact, the... Read More This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
Watch: Arnold Schwarzenegger's Vintage 'A Very Special Christmas Party' Video Posted: 24 Dec 2015 08:00 PM PST Arnold Schwarzenegger, Mike Tyson, Randy Travis, Danny DeVito and Scott Hamilton got together with a bunch of kids from the Special Olympics and made a 1988 television program A Very Special Christmas Party. If you find the Governator's DVD and Blu-ray commentary tracks amusing, this should rank right up there with the best of them. Arnie plays the pseudo Santa of the bunch, holding throne in a La-Z-Boy recliner while tormenting the confused children around him with stories about satanic abduction during his childhood in Austria. It's a rollicking, merry, ho-ho good time! The surreal clip concludes with a musical number, in which we get to see Mike Tyson attempt to dance and look like he wants to get the hell out of there in a hurry. What a great bit of vintage... Donnie Yen Talks 'Rogue One: A Star Wars Story' Posted: 24 Dec 2015 06:00 PM PST Devoted fans of Asian action cinema already know Donnie Yen from his many martial arts movies, but for everyone else, his upcoming role in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story will serve as a grand, if delayed, introduction. Yen began his entertainment career as a stunt double in 1982, quickly graduating to star status two years later in Drunken Tai Chi. His abilities as a martial artist were abundantly on display in movies like Tiger Cage, In the Line of Duty 4, Once Upon a Time in China 2, Iron Monkey and Wing Chun. He moved to television in the mid-1990s and then nabbed supporting roles in Hollywood; look for him in Highlander: Endgame, Blade II and Shanghai Knights, the latter opposite Jackie Chan. Unlike Chan, however, Yen has never been known for his comic abilities and it... Read More This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
The 10 Best Conversations in Quentin Tarantino Movies Posted: 24 Dec 2015 04:00 PM PST Quentin Tarantino has been an exceptional filmmaker since he burst onto the scene with Reservoir Dogs in 1992. The man knows where to put his camera and he knows how to wrangle actors and he knows how to build tension like no one's business. But above everything else, he's a writer. His screenplays sing. His dialogue is recognizably his and his alone. With The Hateful Eight arriving in theaters now, let's take a look back at some of the most memorable dialogue scenes in Tarantino's filmography. Since each and every conversation in all of his movies stands head and shoulders above movie cinematic chit-chat, narrowing this down to 10 was a supremely difficult task. "I'd go over twelve percent for that." In the opening scene of... Read More This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
Vatican Film Critic Slams 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' for Weak Villains Posted: 24 Dec 2015 02:00 PM PST The Catholic Church may seem hipper than ever these days thanks to the progressive Pope Francis, but they're not fans of the hippest movie in the world right now. A critic for the Vatican's daily newspaper, L'Osservatore Romano, has harshly slammed Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Not for moral reasons, either. The sequel is just not written or directed well, particularly in its depiction of evil, according to the review. We've highlighted the significant bits, as translated by the Los Angeles Times and Variety, below. On the movie's villains: "The new director's set-up fails most spectacularly in its representation of evil, meaning the negative characters ... the counterpart of Darth Vader, Kylo Ren, wears a mask merely to emulate his... Posted: 24 Dec 2015 12:00 PM PST Hulk: Mark Ruffalo says that a Hulk stand-alone movie "doesn't look particularly promising" right now. While Marvel will feature Hulk in the upcoming Thor: Ragnarok, Universal controls the rights to the character's solo movies and the companies are not seeing eye to eye at the moment. On the positive side, Ruffalo said: "I know for a fact that everyone is holding out hope that one day we can do it." [Yahoo] Inferno: A new image from Ron Howard's upcoming Inferno showcases Tom Hanks and Felicity Jones looking like they're about to go on the run. Hanks is reprising his role as Harvard symbologist Robert Langdon for the third time, following The Da Vinci Code and Angels and Demons. This time he wakes up with amnesia, yet must still...
