'The Nice Guys' Trailer Teams Up Russell Crowe and Ryan Gosling Posted: If you're a hired thug in need of a private investigator, why not hire the guy whose arm you just broke? That's the premise laid out in the first trailer for "The Nice Guys," which stars Russell Crowe as that hired thug and Ryan Gosling as that private investigator. They first meet when Crowe is hired to break Gosling's arm, but later, they team up on a missing girl case brought to them by Kim Basinger. The movie, directed by Shane Black, is set in the '70s, so seeing Crowe and Gosling dressed up in ill-fitting polyester suits is funny enough. But there's a lot more (dark) comedy in this noir tale, and both lead actors look like they're having a very good time. Crowe particularly seems perfectly suited to play a gruff thug with a sense of humor. "The Nice Guys" opens in theaters May 20. Want more stuff like this? Like us on Facebook. Macaulay Culkin, Bob Saget, Seth Green Take Most '90s Selfie Ever Posted: The joy of social media means we get a glimpse into the lives of stars that we'd normally never see otherwise, and the beauty of that was proven this week when Macaulay Culkin, Bob Saget, and Seth Green all hung out together -- and posted evidence on Instagram. Aside from the inherent awesomeness of this group of people colliding, the first thing that comes to mind when looking at this photo is: How the heck do these people all know each other? E! News has a theory: Both Saget and Culkin have provided voices in the past to "Robot Chicken," the stop-motion series that Green co-created; it's possible that they all met while collaborating on that show. However this trio was brought together, we're glad it happened -- and that we got to witness it (online, anyway). [via: Bob Saget, h/t E! 'The Wiz Live!' Scores Big Ratings, Beats 'Peter Pan Live!' Posted: Last night's live production of "The Wiz" conjured up some magical ratings for NBC, outpacing last year's "Peter Pan Live!" in the process. Preliminary numbers show that "The Wiz Live!" scored an impressive 11.1 million viewers, up from "Peter Pan"'s 9.21 million. That makes it NBC's second-highest rated program this fall, after "The Voice" season premiere, which had 12.37 million viewers. While "The Wiz" didn't beat CBS's rival Thursday Night Football broadcast, nor did it soar to the heights of NBC's first live musical experiment, 2013's "The Sound of Music" (which nabbed a whopping 18.32 million viewers), its numbers are still quite impressive: Its 3.3 rating/11 share in the 18-49 demo beat "Peter Pan"'s 2.4/7, besting the latter production by about 40 percent. The show was also a hit on social media, with Variety noting that it yielded more than four times the amount of Twitter activity than "Pan" did a year ago. Online praise was especially high for fresh-faced young star Shanice Williams, who played Dorothy. While "The Wiz" didn't top "The Sound of Music" (and really, at this point, it doesn't appear that any future live musical broadcast will reach those insanely high heights), NBC should be pleased with its performance -- and no doubt is already eagerly planning the network's next live outing. Thousands of Actors Have Auditioned for the Han Solo 'Star Wars' Spinoff Posted: Disney is determined to get the casting right for its upcoming Han Solo-centric "Star Wars" spinoff film -- and it's auditioning thousands of young actors in an effort to find the perfect man for the part. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Disney and Lucasfilm have already seen more than 2,500 people read for the role, either in person or via video audition. That's a jaw-dropping number of candidates, and THR rightly notes that the insanely-detailed process is "what some are calling the widest casting search ever." No kidding. The lucrative part is that of a young Han Solo (played by Harrison Ford in the original "Star Wars" trilogy, as well as this month's "The Force Awakens"), though of course, no details about the story have been revealed, so it's not clear just how young producers are looking for. THR reports that interested actors range in age from 16-year-old Chandler Riggs ("The Walking Dead") to 34-year-old Rami Malek ("Mr. Robot"), but adds that "sources say the 'sweet spot' seems to be the mid-20s." "The casting team is said to be looking for someone who looks at least a bit like a young Ford (now 73, he was 35 when the original 'Star Wars' was released) and can be funny and charming as well as handle the expected action scenes," the trade notes. "A few young comedians have been asked to read." Recognizable names who have thrown their hat in the ring include Dave Franco, Miles Teller, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Nick Robinson ("Jurassic World"), Tom Felton, Ed Westwick, Logan Lerman, and Ansel Elgort -- "among many, many others," the trade writes. And plenty of lesser-known film and TV stars are vying for the coveted role, too. Will producers find who they're looking for, or do they need expand their search to a galaxy far, far away? Only time will tell, though production isn't scheduled to start until January 2017, so they have some time to get things right. May the Force be with them. The flick is set for release on May 25, 2018. [via: The Hollywood Reporter] Photo credit: StarWars.com %Slideshow-304570% This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
Tyra Banks Confirmed to Star in 'Life-Size 2' for Disney Channel Posted: There have been rumblings about a "Life-Size" sequel seemingly ever since the 2000 Disney Channel movie made its debut, but now, it appears that a follow-up is officially happening, with original star Tyra Banks confirmed to reprise her role. In an interview with Variety, Banks said that she would be back as Eve, the doll that Lindsay Lohan brings to life in the original. "There is no one else that can play Eve but me, thank you very much!" Banks winkingly told the trade. "I'm just joking with you, but yes, I am going to be Eve." Lohan's involvement is less certain, though Variety reports that she's not currently attached to the film, and is unlikely to return. Instead, there will be a new little girl (or guy) playing alongside Banks, though the model-actress said that the development process had not reached the casting phase just yet, and Banks had "no idea who is going to be the young person that will be the owner of Eve." But Banks will certainly have a hand in that selection, since she's also an executive producer on the project. She told Variety that right now the plan is to release "Life-Size 2" in time for the 2016 holidays, though there is no concrete plan just yet. "One thing is it's a very precious project to the Disney Channel so they've been doing a lot of re-writes and making sure that this script is really right," the star said. "I'm really excited about it. ... I think it's going to be a blockbuster." The 15 Worst Movies of 2015 (So Far) Posted: %Slideshow-345254% A great many movies flopped at the box office this year -- including Zac Efron's "We Are Your Friends," "Jem and the Holograms" and the Hugh Jackman movies "Pan" and "Chappie" -- but, let's be honest, a lot of moneymakers were also not that great. With the help of scores on Rotten Tomatoes, here are some of the worst (or at least most disappointing) movies of 2015 -- Some we had high hopes for, and others we rightly suspected all along were going to suck. 8 Best Classic Disney Movies Made Under Walt's Watch Posted: %Slideshow-342642% More than any other movie studio, Disney reflects its creator, Walt Disney. He produced the first-ever full-length animated film, "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs," nearly 80 years ago. And before his untimely death in 1966, Walt gave us so many beloved classic films that shaped our imaginations, filled our dreams, and gave us song after song to sing. His legacy lives on, but there's no question that there'd be no "Frozen" or "Beauty and the Beast" without Walt. In honor of Disney's upcoming birthday this week, here are the eight best movies that he gave the world in his lifetime. This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
Best of Late Night TV: Harry Styles's 'Late Late' Tattoo and Daisy Ridley's 'Star Wars' Flip Cup Posted: If you're like us and value your sleep, you probably nodded off into your Ambien dreamland before the party started on post-prime time TV. Don't worry; we've got you covered. Here's the best of what happened last night on late night. Daisy Ridley played Flip Cup on "The Tonight Show," and naturally everything was "Star Wars" themed — from the R2D2 hats, to the Chewbacca sound effects, to the Han Solo cups. Nerds, rejoice. No offense to Flip Cup, but Tattoo Roulette with One Direction was the best game of the night. You guessed it: Harry Styles got inked on TV, and now has the immortal words "Late Late" etched on his arm. This seems like a totally great decision that he won't regret, right? Speaking of tattoos, the blokes talked about their inky failures. Turns out Harry wrote "big" on his big toe.... Literally no words for that gem. So, Will Forte recently toured the dildo factory that he shoots "Last Man on Earth" next to, and he had a lot of...um...memories to share. Turns out there's a group of factory workers whose entire job is "painting veins." Do with that information what you will. %Slideshow-344757% This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
