Marvel Studios Countdown: The Marvel Legacy of 'Star Wars' Posted: 15 Dec 2015 10:00 PM PST Star Wars: The Force Awakens opens in a matter of days and the mania is back. Disney has got to be one happy company right now, as they’re making good use of their $4 billion purchases of both Marvel and Star Wars. They’ve officially married these two fantasy giants after a long romance that first started in 1976... Blame Conan the Barbarian? Picture this: it’s the mid 1970s and the comic industry is in a bust period. There’s a glut of shoddy product after a boon in the late 1960s. Over at Marvel, the beancounters are tensely scrutinizing every publishing move, many of Marvel’s stressed talent are leaving for DC Comics, and Marvel’s editorial team has been completely upended. Part of the company’s focus is on stopping the... Read More This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |

'G.I. Joe,' 'Micronauts,' 'M.A.S.K.' and More to Merge Into a Cinematic Universe Posted: 15 Dec 2015 08:00 PM PST Hasbro got pretty lucky with Michael Bay's Transformers movies. Love or hate them, they are incredibly popular all over the world, they've made a ton of money and they've helped sell millions of Hasbro's toys. So you can't exactly blame them for wanting to make more movies out of their other toylines. The trouble is their other attempts have all come up short. Battleship did well enough overseas, but it sank in the U.S. Jem and the Holograms vanished into thin air. Ouija did well enough, but it didn't set the world on fire. G.I. Joe did muster together a sequel, but it failed to put up Transformers numbers. So what's Hasbro's answer to all of this? Break out some of its B-team names and unite them all in a shared cinematic... Read More This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
Watch This Trailer for 'Eddie the Eagle,' Your New Favorite Sports Movie Posted: 15 Dec 2015 07:00 PM PST Eddie the Eagle is your favorite movie of 2016 that you had no idea existed until this very moment. I can promise you this because I was lucky enough to see it this past weekend and was completely, totally, unabashedly enamored with this true story about a young man (played by Kingsman star Taron Egerton) who has a childhood dream to compete in the Olympics. There's one catch, though. Eddie isn't very good at sports and every team he tries to join boots him off of it no matter how hard he tries. But then Eddie discovers something. Britain doesn't actually have a Winter Olympics ski jumping team. If he can qualify, they'll have no choice but to let him compete. And if he's the only one on the team, no one can kick him off. What follows is one of the most... Read More This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
Watch Guys Named Ethan Hunt Attempt Tom Cruise's 'Mission: Impossible' Stunts Posted: 15 Dec 2015 05:25 PM PST Could you drive a stunt car like Tom Cruise? Could you jump out of a plane like Tom Cruise? Could you leap out of a helicopter into water... like Tom Cruise? What if your name was actually Ethan Hunt -- the same name Tom Cruise's character shares in the Mission: Impossible movies? Would that make it easier? In honor of Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation hitting Blu-ray this week, a group of guys who are actually named Ethan Hunt in real life were assembled and tasked with attempting some of Cruise's wild stunts, as seen in the various Mission: Impossible movies. Check it out. Okay, so they're nowhere near Cruise's most dangerous stunts (something tells us these random dudes are not clutching onto the outside of an airplane as it takes off... All the Movie Theaters Screening the "Roadshow" Version of 'The Hateful Eight' Posted: 15 Dec 2015 02:00 PM PST Quentin Tarantino's highly-anticipated eighth film, The Hateful Eight, is set in the scenic and snowy wilds of Wyoming after the Civil War. As teased in the trailers so far, the wilderness landscapes look absolutely spectacular on the big screen and Tarantino has gone to great lengths to ensure a unique viewing experience is available for discerning moviegoers. To begin with, Tarantino wanted to shoot the movie in a widescreen 65mm format, and decided upon Ulta Panavision 70, using anamorphic camera lenses that had not been employed since 1966. Ultra Panavision 70 and its fellow marketing brand MGM Camera 65 were only utilized on a select few, large-scale movies such as Ben-Hur, It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World and The Battle of the Bulge. Panavision was fully on board... Read More This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |

Posted: 15 Dec 2015 12:00 PM PST Transformers 5: Mark Wahlberg will star in the next Transformers movie. He joined the franchise for Transformers: Age of Extinction last year and suggested he would probably be doing one or two more installments, but this is his most definitive statement yet. A script is currently being written by the team of Art Marcum and Matt Holloway (Iron Man), together with Ken Nolan (Black Hawk Down). It's not known if Michael Bay will return to direct. [Cinepop via Coming Soon] Wish Upon: Catherine Hardwicke (Twilight) is in talks to direct Wish Upon, a horror/thriller about a teenage girl "who finds a magic box that promises to grant her seven wishes, but with each wish comes dark and gruesome consequences." Barbara Marshall wrote the original screenplay, which... Read More This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
