Keri Russell's Got a Gun in 'The Americans' Season 4 Teaser Posted: "The Americans" didn't get any love from the SAG Award nominations this morning, but the FX spy drama is still one of the best shows on television (at least according to critics). FX released a VERY brief teaser for season 4, which debuts in March. It doesn't show much, but sets a pretty grim mood as you see Keri Russell's Elizabeth firing a gun — and then a gun pointed at her from behind. Does that mean betrayal will be a big theme in season 4? As "Americans" fans know, the season ended with Elizabeth and Phillip (Matthew Rhys) admitting to their daughter, Paige, that they are Russian KGB agents. Paige, in turn, wrestled with the revelation — then decided to call her pastor with the truth. How that action affects her parents will, no doubt, be a major storyline in the beginning of season 4. Watch Disney's Magical First Trailer for Steven Spielberg's 'The BFG' Posted: Talk about big friendly giants -- "The BFG" combines the talents of author Roald Dahl, director Steven Spielberg, and legend Walt Disney. Disney just released the first teaser trailer for the family film, which comes out in July 2016, and it's less of a traditional trailer than an opening scene to set the stage for the magical story. Disney's "The BFG," based on the classic by Roald Dahl, follows a precocious 10-year-old London girl named Sophie and the 24-foot-tall giant who introduces her to the wonders and perils of Giant Country. Here's the dark and whispery first trailer: That's how the story begins, but what happens after that? As Disney described in its synopsis, the BFG (Mark Rylance), while a giant himself, is a Big Friendly Giant and nothing like the other inhabitants of Giant Country. Giants like Bloodbottler (Bill Hader) and Fleshlumpeater (Jemaine Clement) on the other hand, are twice as big and at least twice as scary and have been known to eat humans, while the BFG prefers Snozzcumber and Frobscottle. The BFG brings Sophie to Dream Country where he collects dreams and sends them to children, teaching her all about the magic and mystery of dreams. Having both been on their own in the world up until now, their affection for one another quickly grows, but Sophie's presence in Giant Country has attracted the unwanted attention of the other giants. Sophie and the BFG soon depart for London to see the Queen (Penelope Wilton) and warn her of the precarious giant situation, but they must first convince the Queen and her maid, Mary (Rebecca Hall), that giants do indeed exist. Together, they come up with a plan to get rid of the giants once and for all. "The BFG," which was adapted for the screen by the late "E.T." scribe Melissa Mathison, is currently scheduled for a July 1, 2016 release. Want more stuff like this? The 'Love Actually' Storylines, Ranked From Worst to Best Posted: %Slideshow-346402% Holiday time means tree trimming, egg nog, gift-giving, and most likely watching "Love Actually" on repeat while eating sugar cookies. The star-studded rom-com has become a staple of the Christmastime movie lineup since it came out back in 2003. Sure, it's kind of all-over-the-place, convoluted, and sappy, but it makes us feel all warm and fuzzy inside and that's why it can't be denied. There are nine recurring plotlines that make up this ensemble flick, but which one (actually) reigns supreme? Gather round, nativity lobsters. It's time to rank the "Love Actually" storylines, from worst to best. This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
Alexander Skarsgard's Abs Star in the Steamy First 'Tarzan' Photos Posted: Me Tarzan. You Jane. Both Sexy. Buy Ticket. There's probably a lot more to David Yates's "The Legend of Tarzan," which comes out July 1, 2016, but the first two photos of stars Alexander Skarsgård and Margot Robbie are so steamy they could pass for Harlequin romance covers.
USA Today shared the first look at the Edgar Rice Burroughs story adaptation, noting that this film from the "Harry Potter" director takes a very different approach than we've seen before. As they explained, we meet John Clayton III (Skarsgard), Lord Greystoke, a decade removed from his home in the Congo and fully entrenched as a British gentleman in 1880s Victorian London, with his wife Jane (Robbie) by his side. Then he returns to the Congo and his new adventure beings. "It's almost the opposite of the classic tale, where it's about taming the beast," Skarsgard told USA Today. "This is about a man who's holding back and slowly as you peel off the layers, he reverts back to a more animalistic state and lets that side of his personality out." Jane is also an active, not passive, player in this version; director David Yates described Margot Robbie's Jane as a "really strong, assertive, beautifully knowledgeable, very sexy modern woman who can more than look after herself." "The Legend of Tarzan" also stars Christoph Waltz, Samuel L. Jackson, and Djimon Hounsou -- so it's not just a Harlequin adventure story, it's half a Tarantino film. What do you think of it so far? J.K. Rowling: 'Voldemort Was Nowhere Near as Bad' as Donald Trump Posted: Voldemort killed multiple people, including Harry Potter's parents, and created seven horcruxes with pieces of his soul to try and stay immortal. But he's STILL better than Donald Trump. That's the verdict from "Harry Potter" author J.K. Rowling, who joined the ranks of those questioning everything about Trump, but specifically his call to ban Muslims coming into the U.S. (That does sound like a plan "mudblood" bigot Voldemort would back.) Rowling shared her Trump trumps Voldemort comment when sharing a BBC story comparing the two characters:
As you can see, her tweet was shared more than 180,000 times. Here are some of the top fan responses:
Rowling also retweeted a BuzzFeed UK Politics story on London Mayor Boris Johnson, who said he would avoid going to some parts of New York due to "the real risk of meeting Donald Trump." So, yeah, she's not a Trump fan. (She's also not American, but the leader of the U.S. is a big deal to the rest of the world, too.) Sometimes Rowling gets in hot water with fans when she shares her political views, especially when she combines them with Harry Potter characters. But that has yet to stop her from posting her thoughts and we hope it never does -- whether we agree with her positions or not. Want more stuff like this? The 'Zoolander 2' Boycott Petition Hurts Justin Theroux's Feelings Posted: Justin Theroux never gets attention for the right things, bless him. Yeah, he's married to Jennifer Aniston, but he's also the star of the criminally under-appreciated HBO show "The Leftovers," and the screenwriter of several great movies, including "Tropic Thunder," "Iron Man 2," and "Rock of Ages." He also wrote the script for "Zoolander 2," which is out in February. Unfortunately, that sequel is also the target of a petition protesting Benedict Cumberbatch's character, based on how he appears and acts in the trailer. Here's a portion of the petition, which currently has more than 21,000 signatures: "In the 'Zoolander 2' trailer, an androgynous character played by Benedict Cumberbatch is asked by Zoolander and Hansel if he is a 'male or female model', and if they 'have a hot dog or a bun'. Additionally, Cumberbatch's character is clearly portrayed as an over-the-top, cartoonish mockery of androgyne/trans/non-binary individuals. This is the modern equivalent of using blackface to represent a minority. If the producers and screenwriters of Zoolander wanted to provide social commentary on the presence of trans/androgyne individuals in the fashion industry, they could have approached models like Andreja Pejic to be in the film. By hiring a cis actor to play a non-binary individual in a clearly negative way, they film endorses harmful and dangerous perceptions of the queer community at large." So now, while trying to discuss "The Leftovers" finale, Justin Theroux is being asked about the petition to boycott a movie he wrote. "I don't even know what to make of it, because it hurts my feelings in a way," Justin told TheWrap. "I take great care in the jokes I write, and the umbrage being taken is out of the context of the scene. I wish people would see the movie first. Satire is a thing that points out the idiots, and we went through it on 'Tropic Thunder' with the 'R' word." That "R" word is "retard," which Robert Downey Jr.'s character (who was in blackface, by the way) used in the 2008 comedy. As Justin continued to TheWrap, "The goal was not to mock or be cruel to the mentally challenged, but exalt in the stupidity of people who use that word. I'm all for letting words be ugly when the target is correct." He emphasized that their target isn't and never was "to disenfranchise anyone." This petition probably won't affect "Zoolander 2" at the box office, but it's possible it will influence how androgynous characters are treated in the future. Or it may just inspire eyerolls from the anti-PC crowd. Want more stuff like this? Like us on Facebook. %Slideshow-346402% This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
'Orange Is the New Black' Season 4 Wraps Filming ... for June 2016 Release? Posted: You've got tiiiiiiiiiiiime before "Orange Is the New Black" returns for Season 4, but exactly how much time has yet to be revealed. The Netflix series just finished filming for the 2016 season, and considering the 13 episodes have dropped in June for three straight years, it stands to reason Season 4 will do the same. Maybe we're about to get a hint on that front, or some first footage:
(The photo shown above is from Uzo Aduba's Instagram on December 8, final shooting day.) What happens in Litchfield this year? Well, back in late July, Taylor Schilling talked to Entertainment Weekly about her panty business and how it could mean more jail time for Piper. "She may only have three months left," Taylor said. "It's a pretty wild thing that this character is risking a significantly extended sentence to play with this panty business." Also, the actress told EW, despite the fact that Piper turned on Stella last season, Taylor believes her character can still find redemption. "What if she's moving toward a place where she's finally, for the first time in her life saying, 'I'm going to bring it and I'm going to be who I am,' and she's been trapped by blonde hair and blue eyes for so much of her life? Maybe it is redemption to go too far." Are you ready for the new season, possibly with some redemption/comeuppance for Piper? Want more stuff like this? Lea Michele Teases 'Scream Queens' Season 2: Will Hester Return? Posted: Warning: Spoilers ahead from the "Scream Queens" Season 1 finale. "Scream Queens" Season 1 just ended, with the revelation of multiple Red Devil killers: Boone (Nick Jonas), Gigi (Nasim Pedrad), Pete (Diego Boneta), and Boone's twin sister, Hester (Lea Michele), who was the only (known) Red Devil left alive after the FOX comedy's season finale. Lea Michele's Hester was the mastermind behind the killings and also the framing of the Chanels, who ended up in an asylum where -- surprise! -- they were actually happy. (Emma Roberts's Chanel Oberlin may not stay happy since the Red Devil found her in the end.) Now what?
Before Season 1 started, Ryan Murphy told Entertainment Weekly, "Whoever survives—and there will be people who will survive—they will go on next season to a new location and a new terror. Unlike 'American' Horror Story, which completely reboots, this has some of the continuity in that some of the characters and some of the relationships continue into a new world." On that note, after the finale, Entertainment Tonight talked to Lea Michele about the future of her character. If there is a "Scream Queens" Season 2 (which is not official at this point), would Lea be up for bringing Hester back?
Here's Lea's enthusiastic reply: "Of course! What do you mean? I'm already waiting, I'm patiently waiting! Obviously, Ryan has shared with a few of us what his ideas for next year are and I think that they're so exciting and I'm down. I think it will be really great too to see Hester in that environment. Ryan shared that next year there would be a whole new killer and so to see her really in the position of being the victim, I think would be really fun to play." ET asked for any predictions on the next killer. "Oh my gosh, I don't think it gets any better than the Red Devil, but we'll see. I'm sure whatever Ryan has in his mind is better than anything I could think of on my own." If Lea wants Hester to return, she probably will, but who else might be back? The Chanels? The Dean? Grace? Zayday? Please bring back Glen Powell's Chad Radwell and Niecy Nash's Denise Hemphill. They. Are. Gold. Want more stuff like this? Best of Late Night TV: 'Sesame Street' Meets 'Game of Thrones,' Bernie Sanders's Whisper Challenge Posted: If you're like us and value your sleep, you probably nodded off into your Ambien dreamland before the party started on post-prime time TV. Don't worry; we've got you covered. Here's the best of what happened last night on late night. Starting in January, "Sesame Street" is moving to HBO for first-run episodes. How will a family friendly show like that fit in on a network like HBO? "Jimmy Kimmel Live" decided to do a test run Tuesday night, taking dialogue from "Game of Thrones" (the Hound chicken scene!) and setting it to a scene with Muppets. Grover looks a little too natural dropping those f-bombs. Just saying. It's probably not his first time. Here's a returning favorite: "Santa's Lap or Flu Shot?" Jimmy Kimmel -- always fond of sad kid stories -- showed photos of crying children and the audience had to guess whether the child was on Santa's lap or getting a flu shot. "The Tonight Show" was feeling the Bern Tuesday night, with Sen. Bernie Sanders sitting next to Jimmy Fallon. They played a little Whisper Challenge and Jimmy asked Bernie if he's more concerned with beating Donald Trump or Hillary Clinton. He said he's looking forward to beating Donald Trump. Love this: Conan O'Brien calls foul on Chris D'Elia's manspreading during their interview. "Close your legs!" Heh. Well, he is on "Undateable" for a reason. Also love this: Here's the legend Andy Richter sharing his Gift Guide For Guys. The suggestions are a BIT pricey, but don't miss the random plot twist with details on getting your testicles injured in the state of Illinois. Thanks for the tip, Andy! This is also random, but see what you think of it. It's John Cena reflecting on life and meeting his "inner child" Troye Sivan: It's hard to believe "Downton Abbey" is ending, but it is. Sniff. Here's Michelle Dockery (Lady Mary) talking about the premiere of the final season and the awkward times she has been recognized in public. Seth Meyers could relate. Marion Cotillard was on "The Late Show" to promote "Macbeth," but also illustrate to Stephen Colbert that most things sound much more intriguing when said in French. So much is bleeped out! Last but not least, here's James Corden recalling the time he bumped into Taraji P. Henson before they both auditioned for the role of Cookie on "Empire." Looks like the role went to the right person. Want more stuff like this? Like us on Facebook. %Slideshow-346402% This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
