The 'Die Hard' Fan Who Bought an Ad to Pitch a Sequel Landed a Movie Deal Posted: 16 Dec 2015 09:30 PM PST Here's another fascinating Hollywood success story that could only happen once. Last month, screenwriter Eric D. Wilkinson spent his savings and took out a full-page ad in The Hollywood Reporter with an open letter and his pitch for the next Die Hard sequel. That bold move attracted enough attention that he now has a first-look deal with producer Avi Lerner (The Expendables) through third party Eclectic Pictures (Lovelace), according to The Guardian. Lerner may not be associated with the Die Hard franchise, but he did make the White House-set Die Hard wannabe Olympus Has Fallen. Surprisingly, though, it's not another one of that oft-copied mold that Wilkinson will now be working on. After Lerner reached out looking for more ideas, Wilkinson and his writing... Watch: This Exclusive 'Extraction' Clip Shows Why Bathrooms Make for Great Fight Scenes Posted: 16 Dec 2015 08:25 PM PST The bathroom is definitely an underrated location when it comes to fight scenes. It may not be the most ideal place for a romantic rendezvous, but if you're attacked by a lethal assassin, it's fantastic. Take this exclusive clip from the new movie Extraction (in theaters and on-demand this Friday, December 18) for example. Kellan Lutz is just finishing up his bathroom business when a frantic phone call informs him that he's now marked for assassination... just as his would-be assassin enters the space. Cue epic fight scene! That scene demonstrates exactly why bathrooms rock in action movies. You've got stalls, sinks, toilets, mirrors, water and more to play with, and this movie uses it all. In the film Lutz plays a government analyst who takes on an... Read More This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
Watch: 'Ted 2' Deleted Scene Offers an Awful History Lesson (Exclusive) Posted: 16 Dec 2015 07:00 PM PST If Yogi is smarter than your average bear, then Ted is the bear that would probably give Yogi a wedgie for being so smart. The CGI star of Seth MacFarlane's comedy series about a teddy bear that comes to life is funny, vulgar and in some surprising ways quite sweet, but he's not all that bright. Neither is his human best friend, John (Mark Wahlberg). You probably didn't need us to tell you that, though. You've probably seen Ted or Ted 2 (combined they made over $765 million worldwide, which is utterly massive for an R-rated comedy) and you know that the pair aren't the sharpest tools in the shed. What you haven't seen is this scene from Ted 2, which shows just how badly John and Ted are in need of a history lesson. The reason you haven't seen it is... What Quentin Tarantino Might Do Next and What He Definitely Won't Posted: 16 Dec 2015 05:00 PM PST Quentin Tarantino is ready to unleash his brutal revisionist Western, The Hateful Eight, upon audiences, initially in a special 70mm roadshow version that will open in select theaters on December 25 (see a complete list here with more details). With that movie locked and loaded, it's natural to wonder what he'll be doing next, especially since he's said he will ony make two more features before retiring from the film industry to focus on stage plays and novels. More than many filmmakers, Tarantino has always been happy to talk about possible future projects, though he's notorious for floating ideas that never come to fruition. More than a decade ago, for example, he said he wanted to do a James Bond movie, adapted from Ian Fleming's Casino Royale. He's... The Geek Beat: Ranking 'Star Wars' Movies by the Numbers Posted: 16 Dec 2015 03:30 PM PST Star Wars fever is in full effect, and this week's premiere of Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens has many pundits predicting that box-office records will fall like snow on Hoth when J.J. Abrams' much-anticipated sequel finally arrives in theaters. The movie is already on pace for a record-breaking opening weekend, but how will it fare against some of the greatest blockbusters of all time – or better yet, the Star Wars movies that came before it? In the past, I've crunched the numbers for Marvel movies, video game adaptations, and even the worst comic book movies of all time in order to determine how the hierarchy actually shakes out with some of these subsets of geeky movies. With The Force Awakens on the horizon, it seemed like a good time to do... Read More This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
This New Image from the 'Ghostbusters' Reboot Is Badass Posted: 16 Dec 2015 02:00 PM PST Oh, they ain't afraid of no ghosts. That's fairly obvious from this new official image of the new ladies at the center of next summer's Ghostbusters reboot, starring (from left to right) Melissa McCarthy, Kate McKinnon, Kristen Wiig and Leslie Jones. Unlike some of this year's more memorable franchise restarts (Jurassic World, Mad Max: Fury Road, Creed, Star Wars: The Force Awakens), Ghostbusters is very much a clean reboot and not connected to the other two Ghostbusters movies, aside from cameos from its original cast members. “The old movies are so good, I didn't want to mess with them, director Paul Feig (Bridesmaids, Spy) told AlloCine earlier this year. "I also want to see the beginnings of this group. I want to see people... Read More This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
Posted: 16 Dec 2015 12:30 PM PST Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2: Kurt Russell (The Hateful Eight, above) is under consideration to play the father of Chris Pratt in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. The actor is said to be director James Gunn's top choice for the role in the sequel, but he's not yet been offered the part and, in fact, has not even read Gunn's script at this point. Production is scheduled to begin early next year; the movie will open in theaters on May 5, 2017. [The Wrap] Move That Body: Scarlett Johansson is in negotiations to star in Move That Body, a raunchy comedy about a wild bachelorette party interrupted by a dead male stripper. Lucia Aniello (TV's Broad City) will direct, based on a script she wrote with Paul W. Downs, who will co-star in the movie. [The... 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' Is Exactly the Movie You Want It To Be Posted: 16 Dec 2015 06:01 AM PST Note: The following does not include any major spoilers for Star Wars: The Force Awakens. 2015 has saved its best for last. It might be the most anticipated movie in your lifetime, and it’s most definitely the most anticipated movie of the year, but does Star Wars: The Force Awakens live up to these Death Star-sized expectations? It does. And here are a few reasons why… It’s like a “greatest hits” of Star Wars movies Are there nerdy references? Of course there are nerdy references. Are there lines from other Star Wars movies reused in different ways? Of course there are! As much as The Force Awakens is very much the beginning of a new trilogy of movies, it also functions as kind of a reboot of the very first Star Wars...
