Marvel's 'Iron Fist' Lands 'Dexter' Showrunner Scott Buck

Posted:

2012 Summer TCA Tour - Day 10The fourth series in the Netflix-Marvel partnership, "Iron Fist," is officially a go, and has landed a showrunner.

Marvel announced on Monday that Scott Buck, who also served as executive producer on Showtime series "Dexter," will now take on that same role on "Iron Fist." Buck, whose other credits include writing for HBO series "Six Feet Under" and "Rome," impressed Marvel execs with his unique vision for the series.

"Scott came in with a take on Iron Fist that quite simply knocked us off our feet," said Jeph Loeb, "Iron Fist" executive producer and head of Marvel Television, in a statement. "We always look for the most creative minds in the field to help us bring our heroes to life, and with Scott we've found someone that can deliver yet another great series in the ongoing story of The Defenders."

"I've always been drawn to writing complex, intriguing characters, and that's what most excites me about the opportunity to bring Danny Rand and "Iron Fist" to life with Marvel on Netflix," Buck said in a statement.

Here's the official synopsis of the series: "Returning to New York City after being missing for years, Daniel Rand fights against the criminal element corrupting New York City with his incredible kung-fu mastery and ability to summon the awesome power of the fiery Iron Fist."

There's no timeline yet for "Iron Fist"'s debut, though it will follow the 2016 premiere of the next series in the pipeline, "Luke Cage," due out in 2016. Characters from "Cage," "Daredevil," "Jessica Jones," and "Iron Fist" will unite in a team-up Netflix miniseries, "Marvel's The Defenders."

The 'Supergirl' Stars Spill Details About Tonight's Dramatic Episode

Posted:

"Supergirl" has come a long way this season since coming out as a super-powered alien bent on protecting National City from evil, and so has the CBS show's titular lead Melissa Benoist.

"I feel myself getting stronger," the young actress, who plays Superman's cousin Kara Zor-El, told Moviefone at an on-set press junket. "Which matches the trajectory Supergirl is on... She started off as this rhino, charging at things [without much] aim or focus. Now she's really zoning in on a target."

Unfortunately, just as she's finally figuring out her powers, National City's newest hero must suddenly learn to learn to live without them. Monday's episode "Human for a Day" sees Kara stripped of her super abilities, thanks to last week's epic but draining battle with Red Tornado.

Executive producer Andrew Kreisberg explained how the showrunners came up with the dramatic twist: "It is something that is actually sort of new from the comics. It was a [Marvel COO] Geoff Johns' idea, which was that Superman or any Kryptonian's cells are basically suffused with solar radiation and that's where they get their powers from, and heat vision is an expulsion of that energy... so you could just basically run out and you would need to recharge."

Kara might not be able to fly, punch through walls, or heat coffee with her eyes, but she's also not the type to take a sick day when it comes to saving her city. "Obviously, it's kind of a frustrating feeling," Benoist admitted. "But I think the whole point of [Monday's episode is] you don't need powers to be a hero. What is in Kara's heart is what makes her a hero."

Calista Flockhart, who plays Kara's hardnosed boss Cat Grant, may have inadvertently helped prepare her for being powerless. She says Cat has been cultivating Kara's inner strength all season long, despite not even knowing she moonlights as Supergirl.

"Cat sees something special in Kara, [which is why she] tells her what to do by being nasty and suggesting it in her own way," Flockhart said. "So it doesn't sound like advice."

Mehcad Brooks, who plays Superman's famous pal and Kara's crush James "Jimmy" Olsen, expressed similar sentiments: "[Supergirl] is still the hero," he said. "The cool thing about the episode is you realize you don't need powers to be a hero."

"Supergirl" airs Mondays at 8 p.m. on CBS.

'Star Trek Beyond' Trailer to Debut at 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' Screenings

Posted:

Star Trek Beyond - Dubai Press ConferenceThere will be peace, briefly, between the warring factions of "Star Wars" and "Star Trek" fans next week, when the first trailer for "Star Trek Beyond" is set to debut during screenings of "Star Wars: The Force Awakens."

The Hollywood Reporter writes that the "Beyond" promo is currently slated to run before "The Force Awakens" when the latter premieres on December 18 (with advance screenings set for December 17). The move makes sense, both because both flicks appeal to the sci-fi crowd, but also because of the connection between "Force Awakens" helmer J.J. Abrams and the rebooted "Trek" franchise: Abrams directed 2009's "Star Trek" and 2013's "Star Trek Into Darkness," and his Bad Robot company is also producing "Beyond."

We don't yet have many details about "Beyond," aside from the fact that "Trek" star Simon Pegg is penning the screenplay, and Idris Elba is playing the villain. Hopefully, the new trailer will reveal more intel to eager fans.

"Beyond" isn't the only excitement awaiting filmgoers, though, as THR reports that there are plenty of other awesome trailers that could make appearances during "Star Wars" screenings, including those for "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice," "X-Men: Apocalypse," "Independence Day: Resurgence," "Captain America: Civil War," and "Finding Dory." Better snag your seat early.

"Star Trek Beyond" is due in theaters on July 22, 2016.

'Star Wars: The Force Awakens': Gwendoline Christie Was Inspired by 'Extraordinary' Princess Leia as a Child

Posted:

Gwendoline Christie of Star Wars: The Force AwakensMoviefone was #blessed to attend the "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" junket in Los Angeles over the weekend, where we sat down for a one-on-one interview with the very tall, very beautiful Gwendoline Christie, who plays the mysterious villain Captain Phasma. Christie is already known to legions of fans for her role as fierce warrior Brienne of Tarth of "Game of Thrones" and as Commander Lyme in "The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2."

She couldn't tell us much about the role (the movie isn't being screened for the press, so we have to wait along with everyone else), not even whether we see her face in the film.
"I can't talk about anything that could be a plot point," she explained. But she was happy to talk about her love of "Star Wars," how thrilled she is with the universal appeal of Captain Phasma and what role she'd love to play next.

Moviefone: I understand you're a huge Star Wars fan.

Gwendoline Christie: I really loved the films. I was shown the film when I was about 6 years old. It was shown to me at Christmastime by my family. And it was very much presented as THIS is "Star Wars." I just fell in love with it. People are asking me, "What is it you love about it?" and I found it so... indefinable, really. You have that response of total passion, just "I love it! I love it!" Because as a child, it just seemed to take you somewhere else and then when you watch it and as you get older it still takes you to the same place. That's one of the magic, wonderful qualities about it.

Who was your favorite character?

I do remember watching it and thinking about Princess Leia and really liking her and really liking the hairdo. And thinking, "Gosh, that is a very different kind of woman to the type I normally see in films. This is something new to me." And I really liked seeing this woman that's strong-minded and determined and focused. That struck me. I remember thinking, "I think she's great," and wanting to be like her in some way. I did actually say to Carrie Fisher that she had planted the seed and she said, yes, she did! [Laughs] But it's such an extraordinary role. It comprises so many different elements, that group of misfits that are thrown together to form the Goodies and the Baddies being so.... I found them terrifying as a child, really frightening, but also very stylish.

And now you're one of the Baddies! Do you think this would have happened without "Game of Thrones"?

Who knows? But I will always be eternally grateful to "Game of Thrones" for giving me such a brilliant platform. George R.R. Martin created a character unlike one I'd seen in mainstream television before. And David Benioff and Dan Weiss have continued with the writing to expand on that story and I'm very grateful for the brilliant material and to HBO for the incredible support. So I've had an awful lot of help.

So you think someone at Lucasfilm must be a fan?

Oh, I don't think I'd ever be so bold!

There's actually a number of "Game of Thrones" actors in "The Force Awakens," including Max von Sydow and Jessica Henwick.

Yeah, I love that!

Which has the most rabid fans, "Star Wars" or "Game of Thrones"?

I don't think I've had enough experience of "Star Wars" fans yet. Really, the experiences I've had so far with both fanbases have been just been very positive. I've been around people that are incredibly passionate and loving of the films and so excited that there's going to be a new film, like we all are. I certainly didn't think they'd make any "Star Wars" films again. And then when I heard it was happening, and I heard that J.J. [Abrams] was directing it...

What was your reaction when you heard you'd got the part?

I didn't get that moment of "You've got it and it's happening." Because I had a very wonderful problem in that I was shooting "Game of Thrones" at the same time that "Star Wars" was going to be shooting. There was a certain amount of working out to be done. Both "Star Wars" and "Game of Thrones" were incredibly generous and worked together to facilitate this amazing opportunity for me. It was really only my first day on set when I remember saying "Is it happening?" And they said [whispers], "Yeah, I think it's happening."

Are you still pinching yourself?

Yeah! [Laughs] Every single day! And it hits you in such weird waves. I saw some sort of advert for "Star Wars" on the television and I'd had a very long working week and I was overtired and I just burst into tears and said, "I can't believe this."
gwendoline christie as captain phasma I can imagine! You've said you think Captain Phasma will be a cultural icon like Boba Fett...

I think I've said that Captain Phasma is a Boba Fett-style character, but I would never be so bold to say, "I think this character's going to be a cultural icon!" [Laughs]

What will be the moment when you think she's really caught on? Or has it already happened?

It was around Halloween, actually. People were sending me photos saying, "My little girl loves dressing up as Captain Phasma. And also, "My little boy loves dressing up as Captain Phasma." And that, to me, was delightful. J.J.'s been open about the fact that he's wanted to honor the authenticity of the films that we all love and to use real effects. And to give us an experience that we'll love and to feel like we're watching a "Star Wars" movie. And that, coupled with -- what I think is very modern -- a more diverse cast and characters like Captain Phasma. We have formed a relationship from what we have seen initially due to this character and this character's actions, rather than the more conventional path of relating to a female character and how she is made flesh. That, I think, is progressive. And that excites me. That and the photos of little boys and little girls dressing up as Captain Phasma, that is more than enough for me.

There was a person on Facebook who complained about Phasma's armor because, they said, "You can't tell it's a woman." And someone from the official Star Wars Facebook page shut them down with, "It's armor. On a woman. It doesn't have to look feminine." What do you say to people who think you should be wearing a Xena-type breastplate or something?

I'm increasingly surprised by the world and surprised by the fact that it's truly been recognized that people want to see a more diverse representation of society. And that the conventions that we have experienced so far with regards to portrayals of women and of men, people would like something new. And it's encouraging to me that the people are speaking.

Tell me about this Captain Phasma dress at Bloomingdale's that GIles Deacon designed.

I think that dress is fantastic. (You can check out the Vanity Fair photo shoot of Christie in the dress here.) There's very simple details about that dress: The design of Captain Phasma's fingers -- it's a lot more complex than what I'm about to describe -- they're cylindrical, so the sleeves on the dress are circular and draped in a way that they move over the fingers in the same way that the costume does. And the breastplate is printed onto a flat piece of fabric. It's actually a very simplistic, easy-to-wear design, but has a huge amount of flair due to the print, which is an abstraction of Captain Phasma. I think it's a very smart interpretation of the design and taking it into a different kind of arena. I hope it raises loads of money for charity.

What charity does it benefit?

The Child Mind Institute, which helps to support and funds research for children's mental health disorders.

What's your next dream role?

I'd like to play a female Hamlet.

Has it been done?

Yes, but let's do it again! [Previous female Hamlets include legendary actress Sarah Bernhardt, Frances de La Tour of "Harry Potter" fame and Maxine Peake ("The Theory of Everything"), who just played the part earlier this year in London.]

"Star Wars: The Force Awakens" opens everywhere December 18th.

No, Jar Jar Binks Is Not in 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens'

Posted:

Well, it was fun while it lasted, but that conspiracy theory about Jar Jar Binks actually being an evil Sith lord -- and possibly the big bad villain of "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" -- has officially been debunked: Producer Kathleen Kennedy has confirmed that the character will not make an appearance in the new film.

Kennedy made the announcement on Sunday during a press conference and panel discussion in Los Angeles on Sunday, moderated by Mindy Kaling. Kaling, citing filmmakers' secretiveness surrounding "The Force Awakens," asked Kennedy to tell her instead what wasn't in the flick.

"Jar Jar is not in the movie," Kennedy said, a response that Entertainment Weekly says elicited "hoots from the audience."

We assume those were hoots of joy, and it's hard to disagree with that reaction, since Jar Jar was far and away the worst part of the clunky prequel trilogy. But we'd recently revisited our opinion on the over-the-top, slapsticky character, thanks to an insanely-detailed fan theory about the Gungan posed by a Redditor, who claimed that the prequels had actually proven that Jar Jar was not just bumbling comic relief, but was in fact a powerful user of the Force, and perhaps a co-conspirator with Emperor Palpatine. Meesa was intrigued, to say the least.

The Redditor's best guess was that Jar Jar would be revealed to be the mysterious new villain Supreme Leader Snoke, played by Andy Serkis in "The Force Awakens." But alas, that idea -- however crazy-yet-fun it seemed to be -- is now dead. We can't say we're surprised, and honestly, we don't even think the original Redditor was super excited to see Jar Jar again. But it's too bad that such a well thought out theory has been laid to waste.

Of course, that makes room for plenty more speculation about the film, and there's already been lots. We have less than two weeks to wait before all our questions will be answered.

"Star Wars: The Force Awakens" hits theaters on December 18.

Christian Bale Got Trolled, Believed Actress Teresa Palmer Was a Stripper

Posted:

Germany Berlin Film Festival 2015 Knight of Cups Press ConferenceIs it a compliment to be a really convincing stripper? Christian Bale and Teresa Palmer both star in Terrence Malick's upcoming movie "Knight of Cups." Because Malick is Malick, he doesn't do things the usual way, with introductions and pre-planned scenes. That can lead to some misunderstandings, as it did for Christian and the "Warm Bodies" actress.

Christian recently had a nice long interview with the Evening Standard, and talked about how the director gave everyone else script pages, except for him. Malick was fond of pushing Christian into scenes without giving the actor a clue what he should say or do -- or whether he was in a scene with an actor or a non-professional, since Malick cast both.
Women In Film 2015 Crystal And Lucy Awards - Arrivals"Even when they were actors, Terry would still tell me they weren't," Christian said. "We were filming in a strip club, and Teresa Palmer's there in her little silver hotpants and I'm asking her how long she'd been dancing for? Does she enjoy it? What got her into it? I had no idea that she was an actress until about a week after working with her. Suddenly I saw a billboard with her face on it and I went 'What?'"

Poor guy, trolled by both Teresa Palmer and Terrence Malick. Do you think Teresa thought he was just in character or did she know he was clueless? Either way, hopefully she got a few $50s off him.

"Knight of Cups" is scheduled for release March 4, 2016.

'The Leftovers' Season 3 Can Happen, But Only If You Speak Now

Posted:

Faith alone will not save "The Leftovers," but binge-watching might.

Season 2 of the HBO show just ended last night and it's hard to tell whether Season 3 will happen or not. The Justin Theroux-led drama does not exactly have a "Game of Thrones" level fan base, but the fans who do watch the show love it -- even when they're frustrated by it -- and want this thoughtful, challenging, perplexing, and profound story to continue. But the problem is that, even though many of us thought Season 2 was superior to Season 1, a lot of people stopped watching -- way more than 2 percent of the viewer population just disappeared. If more viewers don't catch up through DVR or On Demand, and the current fans don't speak up and request a Season 3, then the whole production will depart.

Damon Lindelof has been making the media rounds after the Season 2 finale, and everyone is asking about Season 3. Here are portions of his Q&As:

TVLINE | When do you think there will be a decision on a Season 3 renewal?
Damon Lindelof: I don't have a timetable... HBO loves the show. My hope is that the finale is well received, and that there is a good feeling about the season that extends into the first couple weeks of December. And then we can ride that wave into a pickup. I will say this: If you are a fan of The Leftovers, let should let your voice be heard.

TVLINE | I imagine you probably have some ideas in your head about what a potential third season looks like. Throw me a scoop?
Damon Lindelof: The one thing that I would say to you is that Scott Glenn is a starting pitcher that we have used as a relieving pitcher. I would really like to see some more of Kevin Senior. And not just in the present, but in the past.

HITFIX: So let's talk about the future. Where do things stand, as far as you know, and what has to happen for a season 3 to exist?
Damon Lindelof: I don't know what the answer to the last part is. I can guess at what those things are, but no one has told me what the rules are. I know that HBO is really happy with the creative of the show; they've been immensely supportive of what we wanted to do, and they've been highly collaborative and pleased with the results. That said, all of us have to take a pragmatic look at the numbers. HBO is not Netflix or Amazon. The numbers of the show are known, and the truth of the matter is that the ratings are down from season 1. If the show was always an underperformer, the little engine that could, and the trajectory was flat, or up or down a little bit, we wouldn't be in the situation we're in now. The reality is, everybody felt that the show was ascending a bit, creatively and ratings-wise, towards the end of the season, and in the interim between the two seasons, we lost a lot of the audience coming into this year. That's the situation that we're in. The critical buzz, the critical response, and the fan response, has been much more positive this year than it was last year. And that matters; that's important. But I think what would be great is if there were some kind of bump in the finale ratings. We actually saw an uptick in the ratings for episode 9, which I was surprised by, considering we were up against "The Walking Dead" mid-season finale and an incredible football game that I was watching and rooting for the Broncos. It would be great if that trajectory continued. It would probably be bad if we lost viewership from episode 9 to the finale. Any case that can be made for a show that is picking up momentum would be huge. But the reality is, I'm talking to HBO. We're going to sit down before the holidays and get a sense of where everybody's head is at. I certainly want to make more episodes of "The Leftovers." That's kind of how things sit.

The Hollywood Reporter: If HBO orders a third season, how would you try to and draw in more viewers somehow? Or is one of the perks of being on premium cable that you don't have to worry about ratings (season two averaged 0.67 million weekly viewers)?
Damon Lindelof: Anybody who says to you that they don't want more viewers is a much more confident individual than I am. I do subscribe to the idea that the more people watching the show, the better the show is. The more critical acclaim, the better the show is. I'm just not the person who's like, "Hey, if I like it then f— all of y'all." Television in particular is a medium that is designed to go out to the masses, and I would like a lot of people [to watch my show.] That said, I also understand that the subject matter is really asking for a big investment from the audience. One of the things that we can all acknowledge is that there's so much great television out there. People who will evangelize the show, they'll be like, "Oh my god, you've got to watch The Leftovers. I cried like a baby last night." The person they're saying that to might think, "I'm not entirely sure I want to cry like a baby?" The show does ask for an intense emotional investment, and I have to acknowledge that. And I want to keep writing that show. To HBO's and Warner Bros.'s credit, no one is asking me how can we make the show more accessible to people. I don't know how you would even do that. I guess one way would be, like, to cast Matthew McConaughey in the show. "McConaughey joins Leftovers season three!" But then there's the people who love The Leftovers and have been watching it for two seasons who would probably go, "I don't know, man. I love Matthew McConaughey, but I don't know. That feels exploitative. It feels like a ratings grab." So, I wouldn't know how to begin to make the show more accessible. If you have any ideas, I'm open to good ones. I'm whorish that way."

Lindelof also promised, "if we get to do more, I'm going to try not to f— it up." (Tip: Don't cast McConaughey. That would indeed be a ratings gimmick.)

So what say you -- should there be a "Leftovers" Season 3 or not? Now is not the time to silently chain-smoke, you must speak now or forever ditch your pad of paper. We say yes to a third round, and hope they use it to really tackle and potentially answer the major questions of what happened to the departed, and why. DON'T let the mystery be!

'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' Does Not Have a Post-Credits Scene

Posted:

We have been trained to wait. Marvel, especially, has led us to believe there's always more to come after the film is over and the credits start to roll. However, "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" director J.J. Abrams said there are no mid-credits or post-credits scenes after "Episode VII." When it ends, that's apparently it until teasers for "Episode VIII" come out.

A "Force Awakens" press junket was held over the weekend in Los Angeles, and even though no one got to see the movie, some questions were answered. Somewhere along the way, Abrams was asked if there would be a post-credits scene. "No, there is not," he confirmed (via /FILM). "All the scenes are in the movie."

It's not mandatory to break up a franchise film's loooooong credits with a bonus scene or tease for what's to come, but it wouldn't have been shocking for the new "Star Wars" galaxy to go in that direction, since we already know Rian Johnson is working on "Episode VIII" for 2017, with Colin Trevorrow following with "Episode IX" in 2019.

How do you feel about the lack of a post-credits scene? Is it fitting, disappointing, or not relevant if the rest of the movie is strong enough to stand on its own?

Ryan Gosling Can't Stop Laughing Through SNL's 'Close Encounters' Sketch

Posted:

Actors are not supposed to have giggle fits during "Saturday Night Live" sketches, but why is it so much funnier when they do? This past weekend, Ryan Gosling hosted SNL and had a few successful sketches -- including "Close Encounters," which now has close to 4 million views on YouTube. He was not the real star of the alien abduction bit, the entire thing was owned by Kate McKinnon's chain-smoking character and her tale of having her knockers gently and respectfully tapped, one at a time, by little gray aliens.

Kate's story was so wonderfully absurd it cracked everyone up. Or maybe it just cracked Ryan Gosling up and his lack of control broke Aidy Bryant and Bobby Moynihan in the opposite seats. Cecily Strong seemed to be the only one kinda keeping it together, and she even appeared to prompt Ryan at one point.

We've all had worse Wednesday nights, girl.

Here's arguably the best work from Ryan himself, as the star of a Quentin Tarantino/Coen Bros.-esque story about a couple's very earnest passion for Santa:

Those sketches helped to make up for Ryan's monologue, which was OK, but only because Mike Myers showed up to sing about Canada. Ryan was barely even in his own opening:

What did you think of Ryan's SNL hosting gig? Did you laugh as hard as he did through that "Close Encounters" sketch, or are you wondering what the fuss was about?

'Once Upon a Time' Kills Fan Favorite, But Shippers Are in Heaven

Posted:

Warning: Spoilers ahead from the "Once Upon a Time" Season 5 winter finale.

Make room for ANOTHER Jon Snow: Captain Hook. The "Once Upon a Time" Season 5 midseason finale, "Swan Song," asked the question, "What kind of man do you want to be?" Killian/Hook ultimately decided he wanted to be a hero. He chose love and family over revenge, and sacrificed himself. The newest Dark One forced his love, Emma Swan, to kill him with Excalibur, thereby saving herself and the people of Storybrooke. Emma was horrified, but knew she had no choice, telling Hook -- who is now off to the Underworld -- that she loved him and would always find him again.

Here's their heartbreaking final kiss:

That leads us into Season 5B, which we already knew would be heading to the Underworld -- with past departed characters returning and newbies from "Hercules" showing up. Now we know the quest is to save Hook. And we also know that Rumplestiltskin/Gold has chosen power over love (once again), and he is the new Dark One, and a stronger one than ever.

Even though OUAT killed off Hook, however temporarily, Captain Swan shippers seemed to love the winter finale, since it focused on their love story and now gives Emma a chance to save Hook (and they can even share a heart). On the flip side, anyone not shipping CS may be frustrated, but there's usually room in every season for multiple storylines, so don't fret. (We're expecting more Rumbelle in 5B.)

Hook actor Colin O'Donoghue teased what's ahead for the show and his (sort of?) dead character: "It's complicated, because we're going to the Underworld for the second part of the season," Colin told Entertainment Weekly. "He's sticking around, but in a completely different way and quite shocking."

Shocking, eh?
Jennifer Morrison (Emma) also talked to EW about Hook's sacrifice and what it means going forward, "In the immediacy of him sacrificing himself before she knows about Gold, Emma is in a state of shock and she's trying to figure out what to do, and doesn't know if there is a way to get to him. The weird thing about finding out that Gold is the Dark One again is that she's furious at him, but at the same time, she now has a way to Hook. If he were not the Dark One, she would not have a way to Hook. As much as she's furious at him, she also is grateful in a weird way that this is giving her a second chance at saving the man that she loves."

Rumple always gets his way in the end. Sigh. Poor Belle. Will she ever get her way? "Once Upon a Time" returns with "Souls of the Departed" on March 6, 2016.

11 Times Damon Salvatore From 'The Vampire Diaries' Was a VILF

Posted:

On "The Vampire Diaries," Damon Salvatore (Ian Somerhalder) is the bad-boy vampire we all want a piece of. Even though he has a high murder count, he also has an amazing pair of steely blue eyes and a smile that makes us melt.

Brace yourselves for the 11 times he was a vampire we'd like to... you know.

HBO's First Footage From 'Game of Thrones' Season 6 Is Short, But Sweet

Posted:

More! More! More! "Game of Thrones" Season 6 premieres in April 2016, and we are still on standby for 1) a full trailer, and 2) an official start date. Perhaps they will arrive together. So far, HBO has given us a poster and a teaser, both starring Jon Snow, and the network just slipped in three seconds of new Season 6 footage into the HBO 2015 Yearender promo.

This is the first official footage from the 2016 season, although it's very brief and the three quick shots are out of context. Still, around the 2:15 mark, we see a slightly shaggy-looking Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) outside, perhaps in the company of a new khalasar; then Ramsay Snow Bolton (Iwan Rheon) on a horse, leading his troops; then Cersei (Lena Headey) with her short "shame" hair, hugging her son, King Tommen (Dean-Charles Chapman).

So at least we know Cersei is allowed to return to her son's presence and be by his side. And it seems Tommen still has enough power to be allowed a family member by his side ... but what about Queen Margaery (Natalie Dormer)? Is she right off screen in this shot?

Hopefully a full trailer is coming soon, as the culmination of this buildup of Season 6 teases.
