Are Your Favorite New Books Being Turned Into Movies? Posted: 11 Dec 2015 07:30 PM PST From the highest-grossing blockbusters of the year to the most acclaimed awards contenders, most of our favorite movies of 2015 originated with books. There would be no Jurassic World without Michael Crichton's Jurassic Park, no SPECTRE without Ian Fleming's 007 books and no The Martian, Carol, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2, Room, Fifty Shades of Gray or even Avengers: Age of Ultron without their stories first appearing in the pages of previously existing material. Sometimes it seems as if every great book has been or will be adapted for the screen, big or small. However, there are tons of literary works that never wind up with a movie version. Some for the best, others unfortunately untouched... Read More This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
Remembering 'Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World,' the Best Seafaring Movie of All Time Posted: 11 Dec 2015 06:00 PM PST Peter Weir's Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World may be one of the best and biggest movies to every vanish off the face of the earth. With a worldwide haul of only $212 million against a $150 million budget, it didn't exactly light the box office on fire. At the Academy Awards, it was swallowed by the Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King behemoth. Critics were kind to the film and it did take home Oscars for its cinematography and sound editing, but it's not a movie that gets brought up very often. It's never put on any lists of the best films of the '00s. And that's a shame, because Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World is one of the very best films of the '00s. In retrospect, it represents a huge cultural dividing line... Read More This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |

Posted: 11 Dec 2015 04:30 PM PST The people who work at Laika Entertainment are movie wizards. They create magic with stop-motion animation that is just breathtaking every single time. Even though you can count all of Laika's movies on one hand, it is one mighty, mighty cool hand that would contain Corpse Bride, Coraline, ParaNorman, The Boxtrolls and soon Kubo and the Two Strings., featuring the voice talents of Charlize Theron, Ralph Fiennes, Rooney Mara, Art Parkinson, George Takei and Matthew McConaughey. Kubo is the directorial debut of Laika producer Travis Knight and by the looks of the first teaser trailer it may just be one of the small studio's most magical movies yet. It's about a guitar-wielding storyteller who accidentally summons a vengeful spirit into the world. Check... Read More This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
Comics on Film: Will Smith's Deadshot to Star in the Next 'Batman' Movie? We Break Down the Rumor Posted: 11 Dec 2015 03:00 PM PST We're now only days away from the beginning of 2016, which will definitely be an anticipated year for fans of DC Comics. 2016 will bring not just one, but two highly anticipated major motion pictures based on the concepts and characters of the fabled comics. March will obviously bring Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, the first time that we'll ever get to see more than one DC Comics hero on the same screen at the same time in live-action. That film will also be leading us closer to the concept of the Justice League, DC's premiere superhero team, with the inclusion of Wonder Woman and cameos from Aquaman, the Flash, and perhaps more. Then, in August, we'll be getting Suicide Squad, a film focused on a ragtag group of DC Comics villains who are brought... Watch: First 'X-Men: Apocalypse' Trailer Teases the Twisted End of a Trilogy Posted: 11 Dec 2015 12:17 PM PST Next year promises to be a very dark time for superheroes. Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice will pit two caped heroes against one another, Captain America: Civil War will see former comrades turned into adversaries, and X-Men: Apocalypse threatens the end of the universe as we know it. Check out the apocalyptic first trailer for X-Men: Apocalypse below. As the trailer indicates, the X-Men will find themselves up against the most powerful villain yet, Apocalypse (Oscar Isaac), who holds the key to their origins. From there things get, well, biblical. X-Men are turned against one another, and at some point this happens. Yup, our first look at Charles Xavier (James McAvoy) with his iconic bald look. How does he lose his hair? And what's up with that scene with all... Read More This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
