National Board of Review Knows Whats Up, Names 'Mad Max: Fury Road' the Best Film of 2015 Posted: 01 Dec 2015 10:00 PM PST It is now December, which can only mean one thing: End of the year lists and awards! Soon they'll be pouring in from all over the place, with each new list becoming one more spinning plate in the Oscar conversation. Spotlight won Best Picture at last night's Gotham Awards, which many see as the official start of awards season. But now the National Board of Review, one of the biggest players in this early awards conversation, just announced their picks for the year, but it wasn't Spotlight that took home the big prize. It also wasn't any number of other intimate dramas already in the awards conversation, like Carol, Brooklyn, or The Revenant. No, the voting body of the National Board of Review thinks the best film of 2015 is a little movie about a man and woman... Sylvester Stallone is Producing a New 'Rambo' TV Series for Fox Posted: 01 Dec 2015 07:00 PM PST Everyone is excited about Sylvester Stallone this week. His latest Rocky sequel, Creed, is a hit with audiences and critics and is even garnering the actor Oscar buzz for his return as The Italian Stallion. But he always has to be maintaining both of his biggest franchises, and so of course there's also talk now of the next step for Rambo. Here's what we know about that: Is Rambo also spinning off a reboot-like sequel? A movie titled Trautman focused on the son of Richard Crenna's character as he's mentored by John Rambo could be a good copycat idea, but no. At least for now, 2008's Rambo appears to be the last effort for theatrical release. Stallone is instead taking his iconic action hero to the small screen... The Mastermind Behind the Hit Show 'Hamilton' Helped Score the New 'Star Wars' Cantina Scene Posted: 01 Dec 2015 06:00 PM PST The scene in the Mos Eisley Cantina in A New Hope is possibly the most iconic scene in the entirety of Star Wars, and not just because of the Han Solo - Greedo shoot out. It's the moment that really seals the deal on the entire intergalactic nature of it all. It's got weird aliens in surprisingly normal clothing boozing with each other all while a alien band plays funky space music. It's perfect. It shouldn't be surprising, then, to learn J.J. Abrams wanted his own version of the Cantina scene in The Force Awakens. In the case of the new movie, the new cantina is basically the home of Lupita Nyong'o's alien character, Maz Kanata. Like the bar on Mos Esiley, it'll be filled with alien characters (some are pictured above) and also alien... Read More This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
Watch Ice Cube and Kevin Hart in a Funny New 'Ride Along 2' Trailer Posted: 01 Dec 2015 04:30 PM PST Buddy cop movies enjoyed their heyday in the 1980s, teaming unlikely partners like Nick Nolte and Eddie Murray in 48 Hrs. and Mel Gibson and Danny Glover in Lethal Weapon. The idea was to pair up two very different personalities, ensuring the conflicts and resolutions needed to liven up standard police procedurals. Recent examples run the gamut from R.I.P.D. (recently deceased Ryan Reynolds and supernatural veteran Jeff Bridges) to The Heat (cocky FBI agent Sandra Bullock and streetwise Melissa McCarthy). In 2014, Ice Cube and Kevin Hart teamed up for the action-comedy Ride Along, starring as a veteran undercover officer and a security guard in Atlanta, respectively. Adding to the hilarity, the security guard wants to marry the detective's sister (Tika Sumpter), which offers... Read More This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |

Will There Be 'Creed' Sequels? Here's What Michael B. Jordan Says Posted: 01 Dec 2015 01:30 PM PST It's pretty safe to say that Creed is one of this year's biggest surprises. Who knew a movie that was part seventh installment, part spinoff, would generate this much love across the board? Creed just gets it right. It's thrilling, it's smart, it's emotional -- it continues a key storyline from the Rocky series while setting off on a new course with an up-and-coming boxer who's just as hungry and complex as Balboa (and, as an extension, Stallone) was when the first Rocky movie hit theaters back in 1976. That movie wound up producing another six installments, including Creed. So will the success of this latest one mean we're on the cusp of a new Creed franchise? If you ask star Michael B. Jordan, then hell yes -- he definitely wants to play... Read More This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
Posted: 01 Dec 2015 12:00 PM PST Reese Witherspoon: Actress/producer Reese Witherspoon is developing a movie based on the origin story of the wildly popular Barbie doll. The source material is Robin Gerber's book Barbie and Ruth, revolving around the woman who created the doll as inspiration for her daughter; Witherspoon might star. The project is separate and distinct from a live-action movie based on the doll itself, which is scheduled for release on June 21, 2017; Diablo Cody is writing a new version of that script. [The Tracking Board] Mission: Impossible 6: Christopher McQuarrie has confirmed that he will be returning to direct the sixth installment of the Mission: Impossible franchise.
