'American Crime Story' Trailer Relives O.J. Simpson's Trial Posted: The Trial of the Century is coming to television, again. FX debuted the first full trailer for "American Crime Story: The People v. O.J. Simpson," Ryan Murphy's new anthology series. Like "American Horror Story," each season will feature a different storyline. For its first season, "Crime Story" tackles the case that captivated all of America, from the moment a white Bronco raced down the freeway to Simpson's acquittal in the murders of his ex-wife and her friend. The show is packed with stars, with John Travolta as Robert Shapiro, Sarah Paulson as Marcia Clark, Courtney B. Vance as Johnnie Cochran, David Schwimmer as Robert Kardashian, Selma Blair as Kris Kardashian (later Jenner), and Cuba Gooding Jr. as O.J. himself. The trailer is intense, filled with heated dialogue and menacing glares. "You want to make this a black thing? Well, I'm not black," Gooding thunders. "I'm O.J." "American Crime Story: The People v. O.J. Simpson" premieres Feb. 2 on FX. Want more stuff like this? Like us on Facebook. %Slideshow-313962% This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
Which Side Does Black Panther Choose in 'Captain America: Civil War'? Posted: A battle between superheroes is brewing in "Captain America: Civil War," and there's one key undecided figure in the middle of it all — the Black Panther. Entertainment Weekly gets a deeper look into the upcoming Marvel film, which introduces the new character played by Chadwick Boseman. Black Panther, aka T'Challa, is a prince from the fictional African nation of Wakanda. He gets drawn into the conflict between Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) and Captain America (Chris Evans) over the Sokovia Accords, a global law drawn up after the events of "Avengers: Age of Ultron" to monitor superheroes. "There definitely is a sort of tradition that he's torn between, in terms of how things were done in the past and how things need to happen now in this new world," Boseman said of Black Panther. So, who does he side with — Tony Stark or Steve Rogers? Executive producer Nate Moore called T'Challa the "undecided voter." "He's someone who hasn't necessarily made up his mind about either side and whose agenda isn't exactly what Cap's agenda or what Tony's agenda is. And I think that brings him into conflict weirdly with both characters at different times in the film," Moore said. "He is the prince of an African nation that has so far stayed very much sort of in the shadows. And eventually the film will draw him and his father out of the shadows." Out of the shadows for good, too — Black Panther will get his own standalone movie in February 2018. Want more stuff like this? 'Carol' Tops New York Film Critics Circle Awards Posted: "Carol" was the big winner at the New York Film Critics Circle Awards, winning Best Film, Best Director for Todd Haynes, Best Screenplay, and Best Cinematography. This gives the lesbian drama another boost in the Oscar race, after netting a leading six Independent Spirit Award nominations last week. "Carol" star Cate Blanchett lost out, however, in the Best Actress category to Saoirse Ronan for "Brooklyn." Michael Keaton took home the trophy for Best Actor for his role in "Spotlight," while Kristen Stewart revved up her awards buzz by winning Best Supporting Actress for "Clouds of Sils Maria." The NYFCC awards are a good indicator of the movies and performances likely to get nominated for an Oscar. Last year, they named "Boyhood" as Best Film, and honored eventual Oscar winners J.K. Simmons and Patricia Arquette. Here's the full list of NYFCC winners: BEST FILM "Carol" BEST DIRECTOR Todd Haynes, "Carol" BEST SCREENPLAY Phyllis Nagy, "Carol" BEST ACTRESS Saoirse Ronan, "Brooklyn" BEST ACTOR Michael Keaton, "Spotlight" BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS Kristen Stewart, "Clouds of Sils Maria" BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR Mark Rylance, "Bridge of Spies" BEST CINEMATOGRAPHY Ed Lachman, "Carol" BEST NON-FICTION FILM "In Jackson Heights" BEST FOREIGN LANGUAGE FILM "Timbuktu" BEST ANIMATED FEATURE "Inside Out" BEST FIRST FILM László Nemes, "Son of Saul" SPECIAL AWARDS William Becker and Janus Films Ennio Morricone This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
Growing Up Is Hard to Do in 'Girls' Season 5 Trailer Posted: #Friendshipgoals might be a thing of the past for Hannah Horvath and her "Girls." HBO unveiled the trailer for season 5, which sees Hannah, Marnie, Jessa, and Shoshanna drifting apart even further than before. Hannah (Lena Dunham) is in a mostly stable relationship with Fran (Jake Lacy), Shosh (Zosia Mamet) is working in Japan, and Jessa (Jemima Kirke) is ... well, still snarky Jessa. And art imitates life, as Marnie is getting married, just like portrayer Allison Williams did a few months ago. Judging from the trailer, Hannah and Marnie's fraught frenemy-ship is still front and center, as is Hannah dealing with her father coming out as gay. Ray (Alex Karpovsky) is as curmudgeonly as ever, while Adam (Adam Driver) only makes a very brief appearance in the trailer. Of course, this is "Girls," so while it seems like everyone's finally growing up, they're all still screwed up. This adulting thing is hard! "Girls" season 5 premieres Feb. 21 on HBO. 8 Movies From Childhood That Still Make Us Cry Our Eyes Out Posted: %Slideshow-344736% Just because a movie's primary demographic is supposed to be children doesn't mean it won't possess the ability to rip your heart out. Some films, no matter how sweet and innocent at times, have moments of pure and utter devastation that stick with you forever. Not every childhood cinematic experience can be all smiles and rainbows. We all know Pixar has the tendency to make us feel all the feels, but what other movies from our youth brought on the waterworks? Here are 8 childhood movies that still make us cry our eyes out. David Boreanaz Thanks Fans for Support Amid Major 'Bones' Lawsuits Posted: "Bones" is currently in its 11th season, but after a new series of lawsuits there are question marks about the Fox show surviving to Season 12. First, "Bones" executive producer Barry Josephson filed a lawsuit against Fox over profit participation, accusing executives of previously threatening to cancel the show if producers (including the two leads) didn't agree to a reduction in the episodic license fees. Right after that lawsuit, stars David Boreanaz and Emily Deschanel, and executive producer Kathleen Reichs, filed a lawsuit for "tens of millions of dollars" they believe they are owed by Fox. As TVLine reported, the actors claim in the suit they are contractually entitled to 3 percent of the series' profits, while EP Reichs is owed 5 percent, and they don't believe they've been paid enough from the more than $100 million they say they've made for Fox. You may be playing the world's smallest violin for these multi-millionaires, but if the money is coming in, shouldn't it be directed to the right places instead of just going into some executive's pocket or ... who knows where else? Anyway, with these lawsuits in the air, it's not clear whether Season 12 will get a green light or not. (The show still gets between 5-6 million viewers an episode, with ratings around 1.1 in the 18-49 demo.) Amid all the tension, David Boreanaz took a moment to thank fans for their past, present, and hopefully future support: Do you think Season 11 will be the end of "Bones"? If so, will it be because of the lawsuits or just a natural (or overdue) end to the series?Want more stuff like this? Sandra Bullock Introduces Daughter Laila, Who Already Has a Celeb Crush Posted: Sandra Bullock's 5-year-old son Louis now has a little sister, Laila. The actress and her adorable kids are on the new cover of People magazine, with Sandra explaining that she adopted her 3.5-year-old daughter from Louisiana. Laila, whose name is pronounced Lila, had been in foster care, and Sandra, 51, used the magazine story to bring more attention to the 415,129 children now in foster care in the U.S. "When I look at Laila, there's no doubt in my mind that she was supposed to be here," Sandra told People. "I can tell you absolutely, the exact right children came to me at the exact right time." Sandra said Louis was the mastermind of the whole second adoption process, and even though the two siblings are now inseparable, it took a while to build trust. "I knew she was scared, and all I wanted was for her to know Louis and I weren't going anywhere." Sandy said her house is now a mix of "pink and glitter" and "Legos and Batmans." And apparently Laila already has a celebrity crush ... on Bruno Mars! He's a bit old for her, but it's a decent start.
There was a report out in early October that the Oscar-winning actress was adopting a second child, but this is Laila's big public debut. Sandra said, as a parent, she wants to protect her children from the spotlight as much as possible, but it turns out -- before the adoption was official -- a paparazzo followed her family when they were at the hospital for a minor medical emergency. Next thing she knew, a photo of Laila was being shopped to every outlet. "I had promised and legally agreed to protect her from something like this, and here I was chasing down lawyers — having them begging them to keep her safe," Sandra said. "Most foster children are in foster care because they were taken from their birth homes under tragic circumstances — and the last thing I wanted was to bring more harm to her because of the nature of my job." That's the double-edged sword of fame. Because of her job, Sandra has tremendous resources and can give her kids so many advantages, but that comes with attention and cameras, and not all of the photos will be pre-approved like this. But it has to be worth it, because look at this beautiful family! Want more stuff like this? 12 Times Karen Smith Was the Best Part of 'Mean Girls' Posted: %Slideshow-342895% Karen Smith doesn't come off as the sharpest tool in the "Mean Girls" shed, but that doesn't make her any less hilarious. Amanda Seyfried's now-iconic ditzy blonde won us over with her unique talents (she can stick her whole fist in her mouth!), her sweet naiveté, and her psychic abilities. It's like she has ESPN or something. There's a reason we're quoting her endlessly to this very day. Here are 12 times Karen Smith was the best part of "Mean Girls." 'Minions' Honest Trailer Points Out the Alarming Number of Deaths Posted: The Minions are cute and funny and loved by kids, but they also kill a lot of people, send some questionable messages about conformity, and totally would've helped Hitler if given the chance. Right? The latest Honest Trailers video shares a more jaded view of the little yellow henchmen (of course), and adds a "Death Count" to the movie that hits at least 105. "From Universal Pictures' marketing department comes one of the most expensive far-reaching promotional campaigns of all time -- and also a movie, 'Minions.' You loved the first two 'Despicable Me's, now, in the tradition of 'Joey,' 'The Cleveland Show,' and 'The Battle for Endor,' comes a spinoff that takes a character that's fun in small doses and makes you wish they had stayed in the background." Awww. Poor Minions. The trailer also wonders why "Minions" is considered an origin story when the movie does not answer any questions about the Minions' origins. And they have a point about the 1960s references not quite working for little kids or even their 30-something parents. And some of the messages are suspect. And Gru with Minions babies really would've been adorable. And maybe they really would've helped the Nazis if they hadn't been stuck in an ice cave. But, as the trailer acknowledges, "Who cares? You're either 6-years-old or a parent wishing you could check your phone in the movie theater." Fair enough. Check it out: Want more stuff like this? State of the Union Address Pushes Back 'Agent Carter' Season 2 Premiere Posted: There's only one man who can stop Hayley Atwell's intrepid Agent Peggy Carter: POTUS. President Barack Obama is giving his State of the Union Address on January 12, 2016; that put a snag in ABC's plans for "Marvel's Agent Carter" Season 2, prompting the network to push the premiere over to Tuesday, January 19. "Agent Carter" was originally slated for a January 5 return, but the change to January 19 is presumably so they don't have a big start and then lose momentum when they have to skip a week for the SOTU. This way, ABC can work with inertia and be an object in motion that stays in motion. It's just a two week pushback, but when you've been waiting for new episodes since February 2015, you don't want to wait another day. Thankfully, Season 2 has 10 episodes (up from Season 1's eight) starting with a two-hour premiere from 9 to 11 p.m. on January 19. Here's ABC's new season synopsis: "Dedicated to the fight against new Atomic Age threats in the wake of World War II, Peggy must now journey from New York City to Los Angeles for her most dangerous assignment yet. But even as she discovers new friends, a new home - perhaps even a new love - she's about to find out that the bright lights of the post-war Hollywood mask a more sinister threat to everyone she is sworn to protect." Are you disappointed about the date change or do you think they made the right call to not lose momentum? We'd check Hayey Atwell's Twitter for her response to the date change and excitement for Season 2, but she deleted her social media accounts. Want more stuff like this? 16 GIFs That Prove Tyra Banks and 'ANTM' Were a Match Made in TV Heaven Posted: Tyra Banks doesn't play around. If you don't know this, it is probably because you didn't watch the existing 22 cycles of "America's Next Top Model," where Tyra ruled as the Queen of Everything. She's been delivering the sass for over 12 years, and we just want to stay thank you. These 16 gifs of her from the show are proof that there wasn't and there could never be a better host for "America's Next Top Model." Jared Leto Shares 'Clever, Sweet' Message From Past Jokers Posted: "Suicide Squad" star Jared Leto has some big shoes to fill as The Joker, and many fans are still skeptical that he's up to the job. You may recall the Internet's jokes and insults after the first image of Leto's Joker was released, and there was even a video of Jack Nicholson crying to show his "reaction" to the new Joker. But Jared Leto just shared a more supportive fan reaction on Instagram. Here's Jack Nicholson's 1989 Joker giving Heath Ledger's 2008 Joker a pep talk about the 2016 version: Jared praised the fan's creative image, calling it "clever sweet + fun." When Heath Ledger was cast as The Joker in "The Dark Knight," plenty of fans questioned whether he could live up to Jack's version from "Batman." Heath showed there's room for more than one take on the iconic villain, and he won a posthumous Oscar for the role. No one is suggesting Jared Leto will pick up an Academy Award for his 2016 Joker, but he does already have a Best Supporting Actor Oscar, so why NOT so serious? "Suicide Squad" director David Ayer is promising great things from Jared's Joker, telling Empire Magazine, "The Joker is the third rail of comic book movies. There's a power to that character, and by some freaking miracle, through the incredible things Jared has done and the photography and all the other millions of things that went into it, we've cooked up something transcendent. He's scary." "Suicide Squad" opens August 5, 2016. Want more stuff like this? Like us on Facebook. %Slideshow-342737% This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
Calm Down, Leo Is Not Raped by a Bear in 'The Revenant' Posted: By all accounts, "The Revenant" was a brutal, nasty shoot, but for heaven's sake, it wasn't THAT brutal and nasty. In the movie, which is inspired by true events, Leonardo DiCaprio plays explorer Hugh Glass, who is attacked by a bear and left for dead by members of his own team. Somehow that attack got misconstrued, with a Drudge Report story breathlessly claiming "DICAPRIO RAPED BY BEAR IN FOX MOVIE." The story -- which says Leo's character is raped twice by a wild bear -- made the Internet rounds on Tuesday, but eventually a 20th Century Fox spokesperson stepped in with a statement to Entertainment Weekly: "As anyone who has seen the movie can attest, the bear in the film is a female who attacks Hugh Glass because she feels he might be threatening her cubs. There is clearly no rape scene with a bear." Guess it wasn't clear enough to whoever came up with that Weekly World News-worthy report, which means more people will probably have the same reaction when the movie hits theaters on Christmas Day and then wider on January 8. This can't be the conversation Leo and director Alejandro G. Inarritu would like viewers to have, but ... all publicity is good publicity? Want more stuff like this? Posted: If you're like us and value your sleep, you probably nodded off into your Ambien dreamland before the party started on post-prime time TV. Don't worry; we've got you covered. Here's the best of what happened last night on late night. "Jimmy Kimmel Live" devoted its Tuesday, December 1 episode to the (RED) Shopathon for World AIDS Day, co-produced by VICE Media. Celebrities -- including Bono, Scarlett Johansson, Olivia Wilde, Snoop Dogg, Matt Damon, Tom Brady, and the Killers -- offered Omaze experiences to help raise money in the fight against AIDS. Scarlett was standing by for phone calls, but Jimmy explained that it's not a telethon, donations were done online at Omaze.com/Red, and products presented on the show can be purchased at Gilt.com/RED. Obviously the best part of any Kimmel episode with "functioning idiot" Matt Damon is the extension of their longtime "feud," and that was put to good use in several bits. Jimmy: "As you can see, we have some of the world's most talented and beloved celebrities helping out. Unfortunately, we also have Matt Damon..." Here's Matt ("Hey, stupid!") in his own video, stuck in the sad dressing room again, and he also crank calls Jimmy and Olivia during her video. And "Demon" returned toward the end to donate some urine to Jimmy's gas tank. Classic. Harrison Ford can be really funny sometimes, you know. He was on "The Tonight Show" Tuesday night and used a Han Solo doll to demonstrate how he got injured while shooting "Star Wars: The Force Awakens." His dry humor was all over the interview, which included multiple spit-takes and bleeped expletives. Harrison, definitely more ... peppy? ... than usual, also recalled when he pierced Jimmy Fallon's ear. Fallon showed off a photo from the occasion, and gave Harrison a special "Millennium Fallon" drink, with colored ice blocks. But before they could drink, Fallon noted, "You have to do a Greedo shot, first." BRILLIANT. "The Late Late Show" is so random, and that's the best thing about it. Never change! Here are Krysten Ritter and Ted Danson examining fan art, then getting quizzed by James Corden on other fan art. It's pretty funny. Some of those sketches... Also, did you know Krysten was discovered by a talent scout at the mall? James showed off an adorkable old photo of her, and her feet are truly gigantic. Tom Jones was on "Conan" and shared a pretty hilarious story about his bromance with Elvis Presley. Elvis was his hero, and they eventually became friends. Apparently they were such good friends that Elvis wanted to pitch him a song one time, and Tom asked him to hold on, he was just coming off stage and wanted to take a shower. While Tom was showering he heard Elvis's voice, and it turns out Elvis was right there in the bathroom with him. Tom shooed him out but when he was done showering he realized Elvis has used the toilet while he was showering. Awkward! Elvis's pants were still down when Tom, naked, got out of the shower. Super funny story, though. Want more stuff like this? Like us on Facebook. %Slideshow-342712% This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
