John Stamos Congratulates Mary-Kate Olsen on Wedding With Adorable Pic Posted: Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen may not be joining the rest of the Tanner clan on "Fuller House," but they're still part of the "Full House" family -- and their Uncle Jesse has nothing but love for them, especially when it comes to big life moments. "In the blink of an eye," Stamos captioned the snap. "Congrats MK." Stamos wasn't invited to the wedding -- and it doesn't appear that any other "Full House" castmates were, either -- but that hasn't stopped the actor from wishing Mary-Kate and her sister well in the past. Though they had a brief dust-up earlier this year over the twins' knowledge of "Fuller House," they eventually patched things up. Congrats to Mary-Kate, and cheers to Stamos for being so sweet -- and giving us some serious nostalgia. 'Mad Max: Fury Road' Named Best Film by National Board of Review Posted: The National Board of Review is known for its eclectic decisions comes awards season, handing unconventional choices its top honors year after year. But this year's selection of best film may truly be the organization's boldest pick yet. "Mad Max: Fury Road" landed NBR's best film distinction for 2015, beating out more high-profile (and more conventional) candidates like "Spotlight," "Carol," "Room," "Joy," "The Revenant," and "The Martian." All those flicks have been in the Oscar conversation for months, but not many expected "Fury Road" to get much awards season love, despite critical and audience adoration. And that may not change, either. Last year, the NBR awarded its best film prize to "A Most Violent Year," which was completely shut out of the Academy Awards nominations. It's also hailed a bunch of Oscar also-rans in the past, including Best Picture nominees (and losers) "Her" (2013), "Zero Dark Thirty" (2012), "Hugo" (2011), "The Social Network" (2010), and "Up in the Air" (2009). The full list of 2015 National Board of Review honorees are as follows: Best Film: Mad Max: Fury Road Best Director: Ridley Scott – The Martian Best Actor: Matt Damon – The Martian Best Actress: Brie Larson – Room Best Supporting Actor: Sylvester Stallone – Creed Best Supporting Actress: Jennifer Jason Leigh – The Hateful Eight Best Original Screenplay: Quentin Tarantino – The Hateful Eight Best Adapted Screenplay: Drew Goddard – The Martian Best Animated Feature: Inside Out Breakthrough Performance: Abraham Attah – Beasts of No Nation & Jacob Tremblay – Room Best Directorial Debut: Jonas Carpignano – Mediterranea Best Foreign Language Film: Son of Saul Best Documentary: Amy William K. Check Out the Cheeky New 'Deadpool' Poster Posted: Like its previous promos and social media posts, the latest bit of "Deadpool" advertising is playful and funny -- and quite cheeky, too. A new international poster for the flick was released by 20th Century Fox UK, and features our hero in a coy pose modeled after the famous vintage Coppertone Baby ads. Ryan Reynolds's Merc With a Mouth has his hand on his posterior and is turned ever-so-slightly to the camera, a finger raised to his lips in mock innocence. The tagline, however, is anything but, touting the hero as "Bad ass. Smart ass. Great ass." Fox UK's tweet takes the derriere wordplay one step further, citing Deadpool as "a hero with worthwhile assets." Indeed.Despite the lighthearted campaign it's been waging so far, this flick will be plenty dark, too -- so much so that filmmakers guaranteed it would land a "hard R" rating. Producer Simon Kinberg called the movie "graphic," while director Tim Miller said the majority of the film took place "in strip clubs and dive bars and crappy apartments and far away from the shiny X-Men world." "Deadpool" also stars Morena Baccarin, Ed Skrein, T. J. Miller, Gina Carano, and Brianna Hildebrand. It's due in theaters on February 12, 2016. 9 Things to Expect in the Epic 'Arrow' and 'The Flash' Crossover Event Posted: The lines between "Arrow" and "The Flash" have blurred before, but this week's CW crossover event is bigger, bolder, and better integrated than ever. Moviefone previewed the massive superhero merger, which sets the stage for the network's upcoming spinoff "Legends of Tomorrow" and will air over two nights this week. The story follows Teams Flash and Arrow as they try to protect two new heroes, Hawkgirl and Hawkman, from a brand new villain in Vandal Savage. According to the showrunners who answered questions after the screening, putting it all together was one hell of a challenge. "I don't think its possible to overstate the incredible amount of difficulty it was for just about everyone involved," Marc Guggenheim, executive producer of "Arrow" and "Legends of Tomorrow" told Moviefone. "We love that kind of challenge," Greg Berlanti, co-creator of all three series, added. "You can try and guess how large it's going to be, but you don't really know until you're in it." "It was an acting marathon," Falk Hentschel, who makes his first appearance Tuesday as Hawkman, said. In the end, everyone's hard work on "The Flash"/"Arrow"/"Legends of Tomorrow" crossover event paid off. The action in the two-part episode is riveting, the effects are spectacular, and the danger is palpable. There are tears, laughs, and oh so many sets of sprouting wings. Here are nine things to look forward to when you watch the episodes, titled "Legends of Today" and "Legends of Yesterday," respectively. 1. Vandal Savage is a timeless, totally cool villain. Move over, Damien Darhk -– there's a new magical badass in town. Vandal Savage (Casper Crump), an immortal, knife-wielding assassin, shows up in Central City hot on the trail of Cisco's (Carlos Valdes) new girlfriend Kendra Saunders (Ciara Renée). When Team Flarrow tries to shelter Kendra from Vandal's 4,000 year old storm, they get more than they bargained for. Far more than competent villain, he is also a dryly funny dude who won't hesitate to boast about prior encounters with folks like Harry Houdini and Robin Hood. Did we mention he's destined to become the main bad guy on "Legends?" 2. Hawkman and Hawkgirl have arrived! Vandal Savage isn't the only "Legends of Tomorrow" mainstay introduced on this week's two-parter. We also get the debut of Carter (Falk Hentschel), aka Hawkman, as well as Kendra's first emergence as Hawkgirl. What's their relationship like? "They come as a team," Hentschel explained. "In my mind they're like a bickering old couple. He's gone through 4,000 years of loving her and having him loving him back... but he's terrified always of losing her." Two new superheroes also means two new superhero costumes. Putting on Hawkman's outfit was "like a dream come true," Hentschel revealed. "It was awesome." But sadly that means... 3. Cisco finds himself neck deep in an Ancient Egyptian love triangle. "The Flash" hasn't had a bonafide love triangle since Eddie was killed off at the end of last season, but all of that changes when Hawkman crashes the party and gets between Kendra and Cisco, who had quietly become the show's cutest couple. We won't spoil what happens, but considering Kendra and Carter have been soul mates for over 4,000 years and will soon be flying off to join "DC's Legends of Tomorrow," it's safe to say Cisco is fighting an uphill battle. 4. The crossover will give us unexpected character pairings. One of the best things about these crossovers is that they allow the showrunners to mix and match characters who don't often share the screen. Barry and Felicity, for example, haven't interacted much since their Season 1 date, but the crossover reunites them and allows fans to see how their relationship has evolved after so much time apart. 5. And Team Arrow's perfect reaction to the existence of a multiverse. Another natural consequence of these intertwining stories is an exchange of information between Team Arrow and Team Flash, as the two groups spend time catching each other up on what they've been doing. Watching old friends reminisce might not be entertaining in real life, but when you're dealing with superheroes, magical villains, and alternate dimensions it actually makes for great TV. Can you guess which character learned about the multiverse then immediately wondered whether Oliver's doppelganger might be potbellied and bald? 6. There will be double the funny. "The Flash" has relied heavily upon comedy since its inception and more recently "Arrow" has made strides along those lines, too. So, it shouldn't come as much surprise that this week's two-parter is filled with jokes -– and these are some of the funniest yet. From Cisco trying to rename one of the Team Arrow heroes to Oliver complaining about how everything looks brighter in Central City, the humor (and meta-humor) is on point. 7. And pop-culture references aplenty (even an "Avengers" one!). By now "Flash" fans know Cisco has never been one to shy away from a good pop-culture reference, but this week he's joined by Felicity and even Thea as they name drop more movies and TV shows than ever before. From Indiana Jones to "Highlander" to "Game of Thrones" to "Lord of the Rings," they pay homage to all the classics, new and old. Most shocking is a perfectly timed "Avengers: Age of Ultron" shout-out, which seemingly serves as proof that Marvel movies do indeed exist in this version of the DC universe. 8. Oliver will be asked to keep a secret from Felicity, and will eventually find comfort in the arms of another. Green Arrow has been all about honesty and transparency this season, so when an unexpected character asks him to keep a secret from everyone, including his lady love Felicity, his resolve is put to the test. What does he do? We're not going to ruin that surprise for you, but we will say that he's lucky to be surrounded by so many supportive friends and family. One of them even gives him the most awkward hug ever during the episode, which made us laugh out loud. 9. The mother of all flashbacks. "Arrow" is no stranger to exotic flashbacks, but this week takes us further back and perhaps farther away than we've ever gone before. If you've seen the trailer you probably noticed Hawkgirl, Hawkman, and Vandal Savage butting heads in Ancient Egypt, where their sad and twisted story begins. The production design for the flashbacks is exceptional. That's great news considering time travel and period-set stories may be a central component of "Legends of Tomorrow." "Part of the fun of 'Legends' is that it takes place all throughout history, future, and past." Guggenheim said. The CW crossover event begins Tuesday at 8 p.m. with "The Flash" and concludes on Wednesday at 8 p.m. with "Arrow." %Slideshow-325519% This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
Tom Hiddleston Channels Hank Williams in 'I Saw the Light' Trailer Posted: Hey, good-looking! And great-sounding. Tom Hiddleston shows off more than his chiseled features in the first trailer for the Hank Williams biopic "I Saw the Light." Guy can sing, too! "I Saw the Light" chronicles Williams' life and country music career, in much the same way that "Walk the Line" did with Johnny Cash. As Williams gains fame and success, he also indulges in the typical vices of musicians on the road — alcoholism and infidelity. His marriage to wife Audrey (Elizabeth Olsen) starts to crumble. "I am a professional at making a mess of things," he says. But out of the darkness can come light — and Williams wants to do better by his wife and children. The story is familiar, of course, but the performances look to elevate the movie beyond the typical. Hiddleston's singing sounds like it stands up to the legendary Williams, which is no small feat. "I Saw the Light" opens in theaters March 25. Want more stuff like this? Like us on Facebook. %Slideshow-325485% This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
'Hamilton' Creator Wrote New Cantina Music for 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' Posted: Two of the biggest sensations in pop culture right now are coming together — the hotly-anticipated "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" and the hugely popular Broadway musical "Hamilton." On "The Tonight Show," director J.J. Abrams revealed that "Hamilton" creator Lin-Manuel Miranda wrote new music for a cantina scene in "Force Awakens." It happened after Abrams met Miranda after a performance of the Broadway show. "He says, 'If you need music for the cantina, I'll write it,'" Abrams said. Little did MIranda know that Abrams did, in fact, need new music for the cantina! "I end up emailing Lin Miranda, and I say, 'I know you were kidding, but if you actually want to write this music, I'm actually working on something,'" Abrams explained. "He's like, 'I'll drop everything.'" The normally spoiler-averse Abrams pointed out that nobody knew about MIranda's involvement. And even the "Hamilton" creator didn't know the director planned to reveal his role. But Miranda confirmed the news on Twitter:

George Lucas Explains Changing 'Han Shot First' Scene in 'Star Wars' Posted: When George Lucas re-released the original "Star Wars" trilogy in 1997, he altered some scenes, but it was a change to the cantina scene in "A New Hope" that really set fans howling. In the original version of the scene, Han Solo (Harrison Ford) shoots bounty hunter Greedo under the table with no warning. In the re-release, it's Greedo who shoots first. In an interview with the Washington Post, Lucas defended the controversial change as keeping in line with the principles of "Star Wars." "Han Solo was going to marry Leia, and you look back and say, 'Should he be a cold-blooded killer?'" he explained. "Because I was thinking mythologically — should he be a cowboy, should he be John Wayne? And I said, 'Yeah, he should be John Wayne.' And when you're John Wayne, you don't shoot people [first] — you let them have the first shot. It's a mythological reality that we hope our society pays attention to." Whatever, Han shot first. 'Batman v Superman' TV Teaser Unmasks Dark Knight Posted: Superman, meet Batman — or, as only a few know, Bruce Wayne. A new teaser for "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" aired during last night's episode of "Gotham," and it showed some tantalizing footage. Batman (Ben Affleck) finds himself chained up with some other rogues — and his captor is none other than Superman (Henry Cavill). An angry Superman rips the mask off the equally pissed-off Batman, revealing his identity as Bruce Wayne. Aside from the question of how Batman got caught, we're intrigued by the soldiers who kneel down to Superman. What's that about? The official synopsis doesn't give much away:
