AFI Names Top 10 Movies and TV Shows of 2015 Posted: The force is strong with "The Force Awakens." The latest in the "Star Wars" saga was named one of the top 10 movies of 2015 by the American Film Institute. The AFI postponed its annual meeting this year so that its jurors would have a chance to see "The Force Awakens" before casting their ballots. So far, the movie has not appeared on other awards lists, as Disney declined to hold advance screenings. AFI also announced the top 10 television shows of the year, and that list was dominated by new series, including "Empire" and "Better Call Saul." Here are the full lists for both movies and TV: AFI MOVIES OF THE YEAR The Big Short Bridge of Spies Carol Inside Out Mad Max: Fury Road The Martian Room Spotlight Star Wars: The Force Awakens Straight Outta Compton AFI TV PROGRAMS OF THE YEAR The Americans Better Call Saul Black-ish Empire Fargo Game of Thrones Homeland Master of None Mr. Robot Unreal Want more stuff like this? Po Must Train an Army in New 'Kung Fu Panda 3' Trailer Posted: An evil villain is threatening the world? No problem — just call up an army of pandas! The new "Kung Fu Panda 3" trailer is here, and it lays out more of the storyline for the latest in the blockbuster animated franchise. Po (Jack Black) is still Po — happy-go-lucky, with a big appetite — but he discovers a new side of himself when he is reunited with his father (Bryan Cranston) and journeys to a panda paradise. "You must rediscover what it is to be a panda," Po's father says. Apparently, that includes an arranged marriage with Mei Mei (Kate Hudson)! But their lazy days spent chewing bamboo are interrupted by the appearance of a supernatural villain, and Po is called upon to train his fellow pandas in the art of kung fu. The fate of the world rests on his black and white shoulders. "Kung Fu Panda 3" opens in theaters January 29. Want more stuff like this? The 11 Best Star Wars Lightsaber Duels, Ranked Posted: %Slideshow-348610%It's not a "Star Wars" movie without a lightsaber duel. Ever since Luke first ignited his Jedi weapon in "A New Hope," nerds can't wait to see the Dark Side and the light duke it out. Most of the time, it's one-on-one combat -- which is cool. But sometimes? It's two vs. Darth Maul and the end result is nerdgasm. In honor of "The Force Awakens" set to raise the bar on this Star Wars staple, here are the 11 best lightsaber battles from the two movie trilogies. 'Terminator 2' Is Getting a 3D Re-Release for 25th Anniversary Posted: Arnold Schwarzenegger DID say he'd be back. He never mentioned how many times, but "Terminator 2: Judgment Day" -- the best in the franchise -- is returning to theaters in 2016 through a special digitally remastered 3D re-release. Director James Cameron himself is working with DMG Entertainment and StudioCanal to supervise and produce the T2 3D conversion. "Next year marks the 25th anniversary of Terminator 2 and that seemed like the perfect time to bring it back but this time in an all-new 3D version," Cameron said (via The Hollywood Reporter). "If you've never seen it, this'll be the version you want to see and remember." According to THR, they are aiming for a worldwide release, but a main target is said to be China. Not only does the "Terminator" franchise have a big fan base in the world's second-largest market, T2 never got a theatrical release there. So they are in for a serious treat. And even those of us who were around for the original 1991 debut are in for a special treat -- a chance to see ripped Sarah Connor's impressive transformation in 3D. "T2" stars Ahhhhhnold, Linda Hamilton, Edward Furlong, Robert Patrick, Joe Morton, and S. Epatha Merkerson. Are you excited to see the movie in 3D for the 25th anniversary, or do you wish they would just leave well enough alone? Want more stuff like this? Check Out the Badass New 'Ghostbusters' Photo Posted: They came, they saw, they kicked its a** ... and they probably trashed the place in the process. The latest "Ghostbusters" image shows Melissa McCarthy, Kate McKinnon, Kristen Wiig, and Leslie Jones in full power pose in what looks like a very unfortunate establishment's lobby. (Theater? Hotel?) The new pic was first shared via fan sites, instead of from a major media outlet or an official studio dispatch:
Director Paul Feig retweeted that particular message, and it's no surprise he and the studio are treating the fans to exclusives, since the lovers are going to need to overpower the haters if this film is going to make any money. A lot of people have been complaining about the idea of a "Ghostbusters" reboot (especially one with women, the horror) arguing that it's ruining their childhoods, etc. The only other official image we've seen from the movie is the four leads in costume outside their Ecto-1 car. A set photo was shared of Chris Hemsworth in costume, but that was a leak. In addition to the leads and Hemsworth, the 2016 "Ghostbusters" co-stars Andy Garcia as the mayor of New York City, and Neil Casey as the film's villain; with cameos from OGs Dan Aykroyd, Bill Murray, Sigourney Weaver, Annie Potts, and Ernie Hudson. For whatever reason, Ozzy Osbourne will also have a cameo. The movie is currently scheduled to open on July 15, 2016. Want more stuff like this? Here Are Google's Top 10 Trending Movies of 2015 Posted: Everything right now is about "Star Wars" but, according to Google, that was not the top trending movie of 2015. Somehow, "The Force Awakens" didn't even make the top 10. Google just dumped a ton of data to cap off 2015 (even though it's not over) and tell us what we did with our computer time. Here's the list of trending movies: There you have it. Dinos rule. Congrats, "Jurassic World." However, "Star Wars" got its own separate section, with its own lists, and the note that the first official "Force Awakens" trailer, unveiled in October, is one of the most-viewed movie trailers of all time. Here are some other 2015 Google trends that may surprise you: Interesting, no? Here are more top 10 lists (the dog one is pretty funny). And here's Google's Year In Search 2015 video, in case you want to view down memory lane: Want more stuff like this? Neil Patrick Harris Reacts to NBC's Cancellation of 'Best Time Ever' Posted: Here's hoping Neil Patrick Harris really did have the "Best Time Ever" in his one and only season, 'cause it's all gone but the memories. According to The Hollywood Reporter, NBC has canceled NPH's live variety show, so there will be no Season 2 stunts, comedy sketches, and celebrity appearances. However, NBC still wants to work with the star through a deal with his Prediction Productions. Neil Patrick Harris reacted to the cancellation news on Twitter, ending with a tease that we have not seen the last of him:
NPH is perfection personified, and we're sorry for his TV loss. But the silver lining is that it sounds like he has something new (and better?) up his sleeve, so we will do as instructed and stay tuned for updates. Are you disappointed to see the end of "Best Time Ever"? Here's a taste of what we will no longer be seeing: Want more stuff like this? The 10 Greatest 'Star Wars' Villains Ever, Ranked Posted: %Slideshow-347367%Fact: The Star Wars Universe has some pretty great villains. Whether it's wretched Hutt gangsters, fearless bounty hunters, unstoppable cyborgs or power-hungry Sith Lords, that galaxy far, far away knows how to stack up the Big Bads against our fearless heroes. While we wait for "The Force Awakens" to hopefully introduce some new iconic villains into the mix, we're counting down the ten greatest villains from the first six Star Wars films. 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' Opens to 97 Percent Rating on Rotten Tomatoes Posted: With great hype comes great responsibility, and it looks like "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" is living up to its end of the bargain. Early reviews are in for "Episode VII" -- which comes out in two days -- and they are very, very positive. At the moment, "Rotten Tomatoes" is trending on Twitter because fans are rocking back and forth in excitement about the movie's current 97 percent certified fresh rating, based on 110 "fresh" reviews and three "rotten." (Question: Do we just assume the three are trolls fishing for attention or give them the benefit of the doubt?") That rating could and probably will change very quickly, but for now it is thrilling fanboys and fangirls to tears.
Yes. These are the scores we're looking for. Not only do the critics (so far) seem to think "The Force Awakens" is better than the prequels -- an admittedly low bar -- they seem sweet on the movie on its own. Here are just a few of the fresh reviews: • "Thrilling, exciting and dazzling with a heartbeat underneath. Star Wars: The Force Awakens delivers everything you want in a Star Wars movie. It's worth waiting in line for, and lives up to the hype." Avi Offer NYC Movie Guru • "A Star Wars film by fans and for fans." Chris Bumbray JoBlo's Movie Emporium • "Star Wars has come roaring and soaring back with a fabulous, bountiful, richly rewarding payoff for anyone who's been waiting, patiently or otherwise." Neil Pond Parade Magazine • "Harrison Ford and Peter Mayhew, playing Han Solo and Chewbacca, are flat out terrific delivering one-liners, slap-stick, and heart, which transcends mere nostalgia." Jonathan W. Hickman Daily Film Fix • "What Abrams has done is find and return the ingredient crucial to the original three films in the franchise that was sorely lacking in the second round: fun." Bill Goodykoontz Arizona Republic • "A triumphant return to form for the franchise - the best of the films since The Empire Strikes Back...It's also a rousing introduction to new characters who will likely carry this world forward through two more planned episodes and assorted spinoffs." Cary Darling Fort Worth Star-Telegram/DFW.com And here's one of the rotten reviews: • "[Abrams ] has made an adoring copy of Star Wars, seeking to correct its perceived flaws, without understanding that nothing about that movie's context or meaning or enormous cultural impact can be duplicated." Andrew O'Hehir Salon.com That guy's lack of faith is disturbing, and he's probably going to take some heat, but it is good to hear both sides. And, for all we know, many fans may agree with that perspective. With so much hype, there's a lot of room for disappointment. Time will tell. Want more stuff like this? 'House of Cards' Season 4 Promo, Release Date Revealed Posted: FU, 2016! That's the first message from President Frank Underwood to the nation, as issued during the GOP Debate Tuesday night. Yep, "House of Cards" is almost ready to return to us, and the Netflix series is now in full campaign mode -- issuing promos, updating the FU website, and getting us pumped for Season 4, which premieres March 4, 2016. That's a little too far away for our liking, but oh well.
He's only just getting started -- which sounds pretty ominous for the country. The "House of Cards" TV spot was one of the debate highlights, and we're looking forward to more ahead. Star Kevin Spacey had just tweeted about the near-end of Season 4 filming, then the official HoC site teased the announcement coming during the debate.
Kevin Spacey was recently at a Global Financial Leadership Conference in Naples, Florida, and even though he stopped short of teasing any future "House of Cards" plot points, he did say this: "We should not give away the story lines. We have to accept that we live in a nonspoiler generation. There's people who haven't seen Season 1. I will simply say this. If there are events that happen on the show, people get what they (expletive) deserve." Nice! Now we just have to wait three months to see who gets what he or she (expletive) deserves in Season 4. The 'Force Awakens' Cast Sings a 'Star Wars' Medley, and It's Awesome Posted: The aca-amazing Force is strong with these ones. Obviously, with all of the promotion for "Star Wars: The Force Awakens," what we've really been waiting for is a "Brady Bunch"-level a cappella "Star Wars" sing-along with the full cast, Jimmy Fallon, and "The Tonight Show" band, The Roots. Here's the main "Star Wars" cast -- including Daisy Ridley, John Boyega , Oscar Isaac , Lupita Nyong'o, Adam Driver, Gwendoline Christie, Carrie Fisher, and even Harrison Ford -- performing their little "buh-buh-buh-BAAHHHH-buh" parts together. Adam gets a great solo with the "Imperial March" (followed by Gwendoline). And you have to love The Roots as Stormtroopers, then rocking out to "The Cantina Song" as Chewie looks on in confusion. It's awesome, but the question remains -- WHERE'S MARK HAMILLl? What have they done with Luke Skywalker?! Only a few more days until we can find out. Want more stuff like this? Posted: If you're like us and value your sleep, you probably nodded off into your Ambien dreamland before the party started on post-prime time TV. Don't worry; we've got you covered. Here's the best of what happened last night on late night. Not sure if you knew, but Jimmy Kimmel and John Krasinski (and his wife Emily Blunt) are neighbors, and they have a four-year-long holiday prank tradition. John was on "Jimmy Kimmel Live" Tuesday night and they showed footage of the very elaborate 2015 pranks. The video goes on for more than 6 minutes, and the pranks just keep getting more elaborate. Please share the total price tag on Krasinski's end, because, wow! You get props for the commitment, man. But Jimmy got his revenge -- posting John's real address all over town with a fake yard sale notice that goes into effect at 6 a.m. tomorrow. All stalkers are welcome? There's also an egg-nog attack. Stay for it all. Jennifer Lawrence has been all over the talk show circuit in the past month -- from "The Hunger Games" to "Joy" -- and she was on "Late Night" Tuesday night to flirt with Seth Meyers. She said she wanted him to ask her out when she hosted SNL. She had a really big crush on him and was waiting the whole week for him to make a move, and she almost made a move herself -- until the costume lady let her know that Seth was engaged. Oops! She also gave Larry David her number, and he hasn't called; he may be seeing someone else too. "I'm like a predator!" Jen also talked about shooting her first sex scene, and it was with Chris Pratt, which was cool but also very awkward since she didn't know how far to go. "So, what do you think? Are you gonna hump me once? Are you gonna be on top?" Mark Wahlberg is on the circuit to promote "Daddy's Home" and he played a game of "Random Object Football Toss" with Jimmy Fallon on "The Tonight Show." Mark was serious -- he was there to win. "I don't even let my kids beat me in sports." Yep, he's that kinda Daddy. This is great. "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" is about as (over?)promoted as a movie gets, but this is too much fun to ignore. Here are Harrison Ford and J.J. Abrams on "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert," fake-flashing back to three years ago when Abrams was casting the movie and wanted Ford back as Han Solo. HF should do more deadpan comedy. Speaking of "Star Wars," Ewoks infested the "Conan" studio, but Coco had them killed off: Here's Quentin Tarantino talking about his process, writing to music for his movies. Oddly enough, he said, "rom-coms" are a guilty pleasure of his -- "especially on airplanes." "Kate Hudson is the queen of the skies, as far as I'm concerned." He even cries. You should really watch this video of Domhnall Gleeson and Mike Epps on "The Late Late Show," just for poor Domhnall's story of being dissed by an old lady on a plane. Oh, and James Corden finally posted "One Direction Carpool Karaoke," and of course the girls are going mad. Want more stuff like this?
