By the time you read this, people will be watching Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Since this is the first Star Wars movie in a decade, they will soon have plenty of new things to complain about. But more importantly, they will soon have new things to rank and rate and compare. To celebrate this glorious occasion, I decided it was time to rank the greatest Star Wars characters of all time. But who am I, one simple mortal, to decide the order of this most important list? So I reached to a number of Star Wars fans and asked them to grade the 10 best Star Wars characters in the only categories that actually matter: Inherent Coolness: how cool is this character in the grand scheme of things? Effectivenss As Hero/Villain: how good is this character at their job? Fashion Sense: how...

Watch Funny New Trailers For 'Whiskey Tango Foxtrot,' 'Storks' and 'Kung Fu Panda 3'

Posted: 17 Dec 2015 08:30 PM PST

Have a few laughs this afternoon with three new comedy trailers arriving next year, two of them for animated features, one of them a sequel:   Whiskey Tango Foxtrot Tina Fey, whose new movie Sisters opens this weekend, can be seen in this trailer shooting guns and dealing with bigger subject matter than siblings looking to party. Based on a true story (and the humorous memoir The Taliban Shuffle), Whiskey Tango Foxtrot has the Saturday Night Live veteran portraying Kim Barker, a journalist embedded in the War in Afghanistan without proper combat coverage experience. The movie, directed by Crazy, Stupid, Love helmers Glenn Ficarra and John Requa, also stars Billy Bob Thornton, Margot Robbie, Martin Freeman and Alfred Molina and opens March 4...

Here's How Much Your Old 'Star Wars' Toys Are Worth

Posted: 17 Dec 2015 06:00 PM PST

The cool thing about growing up with the original Star Wars trilogy was that you got to play with -- and obsess over -- all the random Star Wars toys that flooded the market. The bad thing? Well if you were just some regular kid with no knowledge of how much these toys could eventually be worth (raises hand), then all you were left with was broken and battered toys instead of bags of cash decades down the line. And if you were a kid with a mom who had no idea they'd be worth anything (raises hand again), then you're left with someone who actually gave away all of your Star Wars toys to a neighbor's son. Yeah, let's not go there. Anyway, as a recent episode of SNL joked, many adults buy Star Wars toys only to display them and maybe sell them eventually. (And if...

Jennifer Lawrence May Play Robert De Niro's Dad in David O. Russell's Next Movie

Posted: 17 Dec 2015 04:30 PM PST

Currently they don't have a name, but we're going to have to come up with some kind of calling card for the team behind Silver Linings Playbook, American Hustle and this year's Joy because it doesn't seem like they're big-screen collaborations are ending anytime soon.  The O. Russell Gang?  We're of course talking about writer-director David O. Russell and his recent fondness for casting Jennifer Lawrence, Bradley Cooper and Robert De Niro in all of his movies. Their latest is Joy -- loosely based on the real-life story of Miracle Mop inventor Joy Mangano -- and apparently they're not stopping there. In fact, according to Jennifer Lawrence they're already talking about the next movie... in which J-Law may play Robert De Niro's...

Comics on Film: So Who Is Star-Lord's Dad in 'Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2'? We Investigate

Posted: 17 Dec 2015 03:00 PM PST

One of the biggest mysteries that surrounded the plot of Marvel Studios' surprise 2014 hit Guardians of the Galaxy was the identity of Peter Quill's (Chris Pratt) father. The young human who would grow into his role as Star-Lord clearly had something of a chip on his shoulder throughout the space-faring film, and it goes without saying that the question surrounding the identity of Star-Lord's dad may be one of the big curiosities that fans will have when going in to see Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 for the first time in May of 2017. One place that the uninitiated fans can likely look for answers, though, is the comics. In the source material, the identity of Star-Lord's dad is not the mystery that it is in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and...

Steven Spielberg Teases Possible "New Stories" From His Amblin Days

Posted: 17 Dec 2015 01:30 PM PST

News that Steven Spielberg has just formed a new company to produce movies might not sound of immediate general interest -- filmmakers create new companies for that purpose all the time -- but here's the part that's exciting. According to Spielberg, "I would never remake one of my own movies -- starting with Jaws -- but there are Amblin titles in the library that could inspire new stories that were made popular by the films.” That possibility has been opened up because Amblin Partners, the company formed by Spielberg and Jeff Skoll (chairman of Participant Media, which focuses on socially-conscious movies) in partnership with Entertainment One (based in Canada) and Reliance (based in Mumbai), has entered into a distribution agreement with Universal Pictures...
