Today in Movie Culture: Dissecting BB-8, Immortan Donald Trump and More Posted: 09 Sep 2015 11:00 PM PDT Here are a bunch of little bites to satisfy your hunger for movie culture: Movie Merch Breakdown of the Day: If you're wondering how your new Star Wars: The Force Awakens BB-8 toy works but don't want to throw all that money away to dissect it yoursel, here's a video showing of people who did it for you (via Geekologie): Star Wars Art of the Day: Many people do Lego recreations of movie scenes, but few are as artful as those by Finnish photographer Vesa Lehtimäki. Below is one he did for The Empire Strikes Back. See others for Star Wars, Raiders of the Lost Ark and more at Screen Crush. Supercut of the Day: This video is 60 seconds of movie characters yelling "go go go," and yes... Read More This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
The Geek Beat: Drafting the Ultimate Fantasy Football Team Using Geeky Movies Posted: 09 Sep 2015 08:30 PM PDT The summer movie season may be over, but football season is just beginning – and that means fantasy football season is here, too. It's been said that fantasy football is like Dungeons & Dragons for football nerds, and while that comparison is certainly apt, it's only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the ways you can apply the principles of fantasy football to geeky activities (or vice versa). With the NFL season kicking off this week and many fantasy football drafts already in the books, it seemed like a good time to host a different kind of draft – one that recognizes what a great time it is right now to be fan of superhero, sci-fi, and fantasy films. Of all the characters currently active on the big screen, who would be the top picks for a... Read More This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
So What's the Deal with the Toronto International Film Festival? Posted: 09 Sep 2015 07:00 PM PDT The 2015 Toronto International Film Festival kicks off this week, and in honor of one of the biggest, most star-studded film festivals in the world, we helped make sense of it all by answering the eight most frequently asked Toronto International Film Festival questions, beginning with... Q. So dude, what's up with Toronto? A. Well, it's actually a really nice Canadian city that feels like a much cleaner version of New York. The people are friendly, the food is pretty good (props to Tim Horton's coffee and an amazing variety of poutine), and best of all its movie theaters (in particular the Scotiabank downtown, pictured below) are beautiful, spacious and immaculate. Q. Whoa, wait -- what in the world is poutine? A. Poutine is only one... Read More This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
'The Goonies' Is Being Adapted Into an Interactive Theater Experience Posted: 09 Sep 2015 06:00 PM PDT Fans of The Goonies are being heavily dissuaded from visiting the movie's filming locations, but soon enough they'll have a new way of interacting with the material. In a recent interview with Uproxx, director Richard Donner revealed that a special new off-Broadway show is in the works adapted from the 1985 release. This won't be the first professional stage version. A friend of mine played Data in a Fringe Festival musical titled Save the Goondocks! back in 2004. But this one sounds more official, if Donner is involved with it (he says "we're doing," so I guess he is). Still at least a year away from opening, this "wonderful" production is going to be different in another way, too. "Do you know what immersion theatre is?" Donner... Ronda Rousey Will Prove Pain Don't Hurt In The 'Road House' Remake Posted: 09 Sep 2015 04:30 PM PDT 2015 marks the year fighting superstar Ronda Rousey penetrated into pop culture beyond her already booming UFC popularity thanks to memorable appearances in both the Entourage movie and, more notably, Furious Seven. But 2016-2017 will be when we start to really hit peak Rousey. She's already set to star in her own biopic, My Fight/Your Fight, she'll lead The Athena Project and show up in Peter Berg's Mile 22. But now Rousey has landed a project that's even more high profile than any of those: A remake of Road House. MGM has apparently been considering pressing the reset button on the awesome Patrick Swayze classic for some time now, but things tipped over to a greenlight when Swayze's widow reportedly gave Rousey her blessing to take on the... 'Krampus' Trailer: The Director of 'Trick 'r Treat' Finds the Horror In Christmas Posted: 09 Sep 2015 03:00 PM PDT All of the smiling Santas, cheery elves and blindingly bright lights may try to convince you otherwise, but Christmas is an inherently scary time. The pressure to deliver a perfect holiday seems to get more and more intense every year, to the point where someone could easily reach their breaking point and just snap. But that murderous rage is the stuff of Silent Night, Deadly Night. Krampus looks to be telling a very different kind of Christmas horror story. Written and directed by Michael Dougherty (Trick 'r Treat), Krampus is about a family that becomes disillusioned with the holiday spirit, and in doing so accidentally summons the punishing shadow of Santa Claus into their lives. Instead of Elves who wrap presents, Krampus has minions who help prepare his torment... Read More This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
Here's When You Can Watch Christopher Nolan's Next Movie Posted: 09 Sep 2015 01:30 PM PDT Here's some fun news for fans of Christopher Nolan (The Dark Knight, Interstellar): the director's next full-length movie now has a release date -- July 21, 2017. Unfortunately, like many of his films, everything else remains a mystery at this point. What we do know is that he just recently completed a script for the film, which will debut during a packed July schedule. Two weeks before Nolan's movie we'll get Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, and one week before we'll get War of the Planet of the Apes. Additionally, one week later we're supposed to get the next solo Spider-Man movie -- so, yeah, you could say that's a pretty stacked month of movies. Will it remain that way? We don't know, and we imagine a lot of... Read More This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
Posted: 09 Sep 2015 12:00 PM PDT Bourne 5: Producer Frank Marshall shared the first photo from the set of the untitled fifth installment in the Bourne action thriller series, featuring a shirtless Matt Damon. Alicia Vikander, Julia Stiles, Vincent Cassel, and Tommy Lee Jones are also starring; Paul Greengrass is directing. The movie is scheduled for release on July 29, 2016. [Twitter] Schooled: Amy Poehler is going back to school. She will serve as a producer for Schooled, a pitch by Erica Oyama about a high school teacher who goes to extremes "to gain the respect she feels she deserves." It sounds like the kind of starring role that would be right up Poehler's alley, but for now she is only attached to the comedy project as producer. [Deadline] The Snowman: Michael...
