New on DVD/Blu-ray: 'Mad Max: Fury Road' Still Stuns on the Small Screen

Posted: 03 Sep 2015 08:00 PM PDT

This movie is so dang good Mad Max: Fury Road: When people look back at the summer of 2015, they'll remember it primarily for two things. The first is Jurassic World's record-devouring-release, which shocked everyone as it kept climbing higher and higher into record books. The second is that's when the world was gifted with Mad Max: Fury Road.  You may be tired of people talking about how dang good this movie is by now, and if that's the case you're going to want to just keep on moving, because that song is going to be on repeat here as well. George Miller's truly visionary film is one of the most confident, commanding, and creative blockbusters we've seen in quite some time. It's got a remarkable set of kick-ass, memorable characters, a great...

Benicio Del Toro All But Confirms He's the Next 'Star Wars' Villain

Posted: 03 Sep 2015 06:30 PM PDT

Benicio Del Toro is in very early discussions to play a villainous role in Star Wars: Episode VIII, according to The Wrap. No other details were reported, and no official confirmation has been made. UPDATE: While speaking to the Spanish site Rac1.org, Benicio Del Toro all but confirmed he was starring as some kind of villain in the follow-up to Star Wars: The Force Awakens, currently going by Star Wars Episode VIII. "Star Wars is coming up, we will see how that turns out. I think we start shooting in March," he says adding, “Ehhh, the thing is, they don’t let me talk too much about it. I’m like the villain. But we’ll see.” This lines up with what we already knew -- that he was in discussions to take on a villainous role in the...

Poster Premiere: See Adrien Brody, Jackie Chan, and John Cusack In 'Dragon Blade'

Posted: 03 Sep 2015 05:15 PM PDT

You may be hard pressed to find a more unpredictable trio of actors in a movie this year than Dragon Blade's Adrien Brody, Jackie Chan, and John Cusack. But while that casting combination may seem strange, it's apparently a winning won. Dragon Blade, about the battle for the control of the Silk Road, was a big success in its native China earlier this year, and on September 4, 2015 (that's tomorrow!) we'll be able to see what all the fuss is about when it hits select theaters and VOD in the United States. To get you excited for the U.S. release we've got a trio of character posters for the leading men of Dragon Blade. But before we get to them, here's the official synopsis. "When corrupt Roman leader Tiberius (Adrien Brody) arrives with a giant army to...

Posted: 03 Sep 2015 03:45 PM PDT

This Friday toy manufacturers are going to storm retailers around the globel with a whole new legion of Star Wars merchandise ahead of December's The Force Awakens. Big chain retailers like Toys 'r Us are even opening at midnight on this so-called Force Friday just so that people can get the jump on buying all of the goods. And while there are hundreds, if not thousands, of new toys to choose from, there are two in particular that are too cool to ignore. The BB-8 Sphero and the remote-controlled Millennium Falcon drone. Yes, in less than 24 hours you will be able to buy a BB-8 that you can actually drive around while its adorable little head bobbles around adorably. And yes, you can buy a Millennium Falcon that actually flies. (Some of these already exist, but...

Why You Shouldn't Expect 'Jaws' or 'Back to the Future' Remakes Any Time Soon

Posted: 03 Sep 2015 02:15 PM PDT

Yesterday The Hollywood Reporter ran a story about the movie production company DreamWorks (founded by Steven Spielberg, Jeffrey Katzenberg, and David Geffen) and its pending need to find a new distribution partner. It's a fairly standard industry story, but it generated some misleading headlines thanks to some big name Spielberg movies. So let's look at what is actually happening. - DreamWorks' current contracts with Disney will be ending next year. - DreamWorks is expected to not renew with Disney, but instead seek a partnership elsewhere. - One of the companies DreamWorks may partner with is Universal Studios. Here's the part where speculation got a bit rampant: Universal Studios is where Spielberg directed not just Jurassic Park, but E.T. and...
