Posted:

The most-mentioned name is surely Anne Hathaway, but she's not the only contender to play the "practically perfect in every way" nanny. Every actress who can sing (and even some who can't) are surely on the short list.

Here are six actresses who just might be worthy to carry Mary Poppins' umbrella.

A 'Deadpool' Sequel Is Already in the Works

Posted:

Though it's far from a done deal just yet -- and the first flick still has months to go before its release -- the folks at Fox are so high on upcoming film "Deadpool" that plans for a sequel are already in motion.

That's the word from super producer Simon Kinberg, the man behind the massively popular "X-Men" franchise, who's also producing "Deadpool." In an interview with Collider, Kinberg chatted about the long-awaited big screen debut of a standalone movie about the Merc with a Mouth, and how it would set itself apart from its fellow superhero (and mutant) brethren with its dark tone (and yes, R rating).

But the key part of the conversation hinged on "Deadpool 2," and while Kinberg noted that nothing was set in stone just yet, and conversations about a sequel were simply preliminary at this point, the producer seemed cautiously optimistic that it would indeed come to fruition.

"We certainly are talking about the sequel-we were talking about the sequel while we were making the movie just because when you make a film like this that's from a serialized source material, you hope that it's the first of many," Kinberg told Collider. "But yeah [Fox is] feeling good about it, we're all feeling really proud of it, so hopefully before it comes out we will be well into the process of figuring out a sequel."

As for what that sequel entails, Kinberg said that it will most likely include comics character Cable, though he acknowledged that such talk was "genuinely premature," and could change. Still, it's good to know that producers have a plan for a potential "Deadpool" franchise, and their hard work and effort will hopefully show in "Deadpool" itself.

The Ryan Reynolds flick hits theaters on February 4, 2016.

Jamie Chung's Mulan Is Returning to 'Once Upon a Time'

Posted:

Monique Lhuillier - Front Row - Spring 2016 New York Fashion Week: The ShowsLongtime fans of ABC series "Once Upon a Time" may get to see a fairy tale ending for one returning character after all: actress Jamie Chung is set to reprise her role as Mulan on the show's upcoming fifth season.

E! News reports that Chung will be back for "a multi-episode run" sometime this fall, though the dates and details of her appearance are still under wraps for now. But viewers will remember that Mulan skipping town back in season three after learning that the object of her affection, Princess Aurora (Sarah Bolger), was pregnant with Prince Philip's (Julian Morris) child.

So does Chung's return mean that Mulan and Aurora are getting back together? No one is saying just yet, though E! reports that the possibility is likely. The site says:

While the details surrounding Mulan's return are being guarded more carefully than Rumplestiltskin's dagger, a reunion with Aurora is a possibility, now that the princess has made Storybrooke her home. And that reunion is something Chung has been looking forward to since her last appearance on the show, once telling E! News, "Are you kidding me? I think it would be really disappointing to leave the audience with this giant question mark. I would go back in a heartbeat."

'Shippers will find out the couple's status soon enough. "Once Upon a Time" returns on September 27 on ABC.

Shailene Woodley Goes Beyond the Wall in First 'Allegiant' Teaser

Posted:

allegiant, divergent, divergent seriesThe first teaser trailer for the third installment in the "Divergent" series, "Allegiant," is finally here, and it offers a peek at even more challenges facing Tris (Shailene Woodley) and co. as they venture beyond the wall and into the unknown.

First, the clip gives viewers a refresher on the first two flicks, "Divergent" and "Insurgent," and how Tris fought back against the powers that be, led by Kate Winslet's Jeanine. She shatters the status quo -- and there's lots of imagery of shattering glass on display here, in case you didn't get the message -- and leads Four (Theo James) and others on a path to finding out the truth about what the Erudite have hidden from them.

That all leads to a glimpse of the group scaling the wall surrounding the ruined Chicago, and standing atop it to see what's before them: another wasteland, this one a glowing red mystery. There's also the introduction of Jeff Daniels's character, David, who leads the Bureau of Genetic Welfare and tells Tris, ominously, "You saved a city. Help me save the world."

Check out the clip below. "Allegiant" is due in theaters on March 18, 2016.

Nickelodeon Reviving '90s Nicktoons for The Splat Programming Block

Posted:

the splat, nickelodeon, nicktoons UPDATE: It looks like celebration over an all-'90s Nicktoons channel were a little premature (see our original story, below). It turns out that Nickelodeon is indeed launching The Splat, which focuses on its classic cartoons -- it's just not an entire new channel.

Instead, according to Variety -- and confirmed by The A.V. Club -- The Splat is a programming block, similar to the network's previous The '90s Are All That lineup over on TeenNick. Though there's still no official announcement from Nickelodeon, reps for the network did confirm the nature of The Splat's launch, which Variety says is set for sometime this October.

There's also still no word as to why "Doug" was missing from the first promo (perhaps because "Doug" was also once featured on ABC's One Saturday Morning lineup, and its rights are in limbo?). But that's a question for another day; for now, we'll celebrate the return of the rest of our '90s faves, even in this smaller capacity.

ORIGINAL STORY:

It's every '90s kid's dream to relive their neon-infused childhoods, and now, Nickelodeon is giving nostalgic millennials the chance to do just that through a new channel, The Splat.

The channel was unveiled this past weekend at the most appropriate of places, the first-ever (and hopefully annual) 90s Fest in Brooklyn, which featured a music lineup of the likes of Lisa Loeb, Coolio, and Smash Mouth, and -- in a Nickelodeon-sponsored segment -- slimed celebrities like Pauly Shore and Salt-N-Pepa. But the biggest news was Splat, which was teased throughout the festivities, and made a soft debut online, with a YouTube channel and other social media links promising, #TheSplatIsComing.

Though so far there's been no official announcement from Nickelodeon (or its parent company, Viacom), the channel appears to be set to feature just about every show from the much-missed 1990s Nicktoons lineup. In a promo video, The Splat loops classic Nickelodeon jingles over clips from beloved series including "Rugrats," "Rocko's Modern Life," "CatDog," "Hey Arnold!," "Ren & Stimpy," "The Angry Beavers," and "Aaahh!!! Real Monsters," among others. ("Doug" is suspiciously absent from the segment, though we're hoping that's just a minor oversight. At least Stick Stickly makes an appearance.)

It all seems pretty legit, and if so, we're really, really excited. Netflix is sooooo 2000s; give us the remote and an entire Saturday afternoon, and we'll gladly park ourselves on the couch to watch The Splat for hours on end. (And this time, we're old enough that our parents won't nag us to do our chores instead.)

Stunning 'Jungle Book' Trailer Filled With Lions and Tigers and Bears, Oh My!

Posted:

Jungle BookThis is not your parents' "Jungle Book."

Disney's 1967 animated classic has delighted generations with its beloved cartoon animals and catchy songs, but now, director Jon Favreau is taking the tale and turning it up new audiences.

The trailer is gorgeous and breathtaking, epic in scope. Favreau took a page from James Cameron's book and filmed it mostly in motion-capture. Newcomer Neel Sethi is the only live-action performer in the movie. Joining him in voice only are: Bill Murray as bear Baloo, Ben Kingsley as panther Bagheera, Idris Elba as tiger Shere Khan, Scarlett Johansson as python Kaa, Lupita Nyong'o as wolf Raksha, and Christopher Walken as orangutan King Louie.
The CG effects are stunning - the backgrounds are so realistic, they look as if Favreau actually filmed them in some jungle somewhere. And the director gives a sly wink to the original, by including a snippet at the end of the trailer of Baloo humming "Bare Necessities" as he floats down the river.

"The Jungle Book" opens April 15, 2016.

Michael B. Jordan Trains With Rocky in New 'Creed' Trailer

Posted:

Creed"I've been fighting my whole life. It's not a choice for me," says Michael B. Jordan in the new trailer for "Creed," a spinoff of the "Rocky" franchise.

Indeed, fighting is in Adonis Johnson's DNA. He's the son of Rocky's (Sylvester Stallone) one-time foe, heavyweight champion Apollo Creed. His father is dead, and Adonis has been in and out of juvie multiple times. But he gets a shot to live up to his heritage when Rocky steps in to train him.
The "Rocky" franchise has spawned many sequels, but this looks like a reboot that could carry it into new generations. Jordan is as magnetic and charismatic as ever, as he re-teams with his "Fruitvale Station" director Ryan Coogler. And dare we say, Stallone shows off some decent emotional acting chops.

"Creed" also stars Tessa Thompson, Phylicia Rashad, and Anthony Bellew, and opens in theaters November 25.

Jon Snow Will Be Back for More 'Game of Thrones'

Posted:

"You know nothing, Jon Snow." Especially about what not to say in interviews.

While promoting his new film, "Testament of Youth," Kit Harington all but revealed to Belgian magazine Humo that his character will be back for more "Game of Thrones."

After talking with the magazine about the challenges that come with being attached to a TV show in terms of having to pass on other opportunities, Harington said: "The important thing is that I now know exactly how long I am still under contract."

The interviewer probed further, asking just how many more seasons that will be.

"Nice try," Harington laughed. "I can't talk about that. Let's just say that 'Game of Thrones' will remain a part of my life for a while; I'll probably be in my thirties when it's over."

Harington turns 28 this December, so we can infer from this interview that he will be with the show at least through it's final season -- which is expected to be Season 8.

Harington's comments come after a summer spent sorting through reports of sightings of the actor on set in Belgium -- and in public, sporting his Snow hairstyle and beard. Now the question is: How will Snow be resurrected, after dying an especially stabby death in last season's finale?

The popular theory is that he will be brought back with help from the God of Light's number one fan, Melisandre. Flashbacks and Weirwood visions also hold potential.

We'll find out when Season 6 airs in early 2016.

Chloe Grace Moretz Fights Aliens in 'The 5th Wave' Trailer

Posted:

5th WaveWave one: Take out Earth's power. Wave two: Cause a massive earthquake. Wave three: Spread disease. Wave four: Invade the ground and inhabit human hosts. What will "The 5th Wave" be?

In the trailer for the sci-fi movie based on Rick Yancey's book series of the same name, Chloe Grace Moretz is trying to survive an alien onslaught. Cassie has managed to live through the first four waves, but faces even more difficult trials as the fifth wave begins. Now, her brother's gone missing and she can't trust anyone (since the Others can take over human bodies).
In the trailer, "The 5th Wave" ticks off all the boxes for a YA post-apocalyptic film: brave, teen girl trying to save a younger sibling; lots of action and armed conflict; attractive, but possibly untrustworthy teen guys; ravaged cityscapes. Whether it'll be a worthy replacement when the "Hunger Games" saga ends this year, remains to be seen.

"The 5th Wave" opens in theaters January 15.

'Game of Thrones' Star Emilia Clarke 'Can't Stand' Gratuitous Sex Scenes

Posted:

Game of ThronesLooks like we won't be seeing Khaleesi in bed anytime soon.

Emilia Clarke, who plays Daenerys Targaryen on HBO's "Game of Thrones," told the Daily Mail that she's not a fan of explicit sex scenes - the very kind that her show has become known for.

Sex scenes should be more subtle," she said. "I'm British, so I cringe at that sort of thing anyway - I can't stand it."

Clarke has been naked on the show before, most notably at the end of season 1, when Daenerys rises out of the ashes of a funereal fire with three baby dragons clinging to her. But since then, she's reportedly told producers she doesn't want to do any more nude scenes.

Certainly, her character is busy with other things (trying to consolidate her rule over slave states, managing those growing dragons), but other storylines on "Game of Thrones" have featured explicit sex scenes in brothels and elsewhere. And it's become something of a joke for a character to explain something important while engaged in sex (aka "sexposition").

"I don't want to have sex thrown in my face and I've always thought the suggestion is so much more titillating than the act itself," Clarke said. "On screen, the subtler the better."

Best of Late Night TV: Justin Timberlake's Looks and Stevie Wonder's Carpool Karaoke

Posted:

If you're like us and value your sleep, you probably nodded off into your Ambien dreamland before the party started on post-prime time TV. Don't worry; we've got you covered. Here's the best of what happened last night on late night.

First up, the best thing that's ever come out of "The Tonight Show": "Looks," a short film starring Jimmy Fallon, Justin Timberlake and Will Ferrell in which the key to communication is just staring at people without saying a word.

Next up, a game of Long Story Short with Benicio Del Toro, Jessica Alba and Miguel. The rules? Describe a movie in under five seconds without saying it's name. If it sounds complicated and slightly ridiculous, it's because it is.

Um, guys, Stephen Colbert and Emily Blunt had a fake vomit face-off on "The Late Show." That is all.

Meanwhile, Stevie Wonder and James Cordon teamed up for some carpool karaoke, and after Cordon questioned Wonder's ability to drive and Wonder mocked Cordon's accent, they busted out a killer rendition of "Superstition" and drove around town together. Ugh, Cordon has literally the best job ever, life is not fair.
