Could There Be Dueling 'Straight Outta Compton' Sequels? Posted: 04 Sep 2015 07:30 PM PDT In spite of being one of the most popular and successful movies of the year, Straight Outta Compton may not get an official sequel or spin-off. Universal has denied a rumor that they're working on a follow-up to their hit N.W.A. biopic, but that doesn't mean someone else can't produce a feature focused more on Snoop Dogg, Tupac Shakur, Suge Knight and the story of Death Row Records. There's actually already one -- maybe two -- biopics on Shakur in the works. Now the gunned-down rapper, who is also portrayed in Compton and the much earlier Biggie Smalls biopic, Notorious, could be looking at another depiction via an adaptation of the documentary and book combo Welcome to Death Row, both by S. Leigh Savidge and Jeff Scheftel. According to The Hollywood... Read More This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |

'A Christmas Horror Story' Trailer Promises a Yuletide Horror Anthology In October Posted: 04 Sep 2015 05:00 PM PDT This Christmas we'll be getting Krampus, a new horror movie from writer-director Michael Dougherty that promises to do for Christmas what his other horror anthology, Trick 'r Treat, did for Halloween. But, you don't have to wait quite so long to see a new Christmas-themed horror anthology, since A Christmas Horror Story will be htiting theaters and VOD on October 2, 2015. I was actually lucky enough to see A Christmas Horror Story at its secretive world premiere last yeat at Butt-Numb-a Thon, so I can attest that it is a pretty dang fun anthology. Some of the CGI is a bit distracting, and it'd be cool if the stories were woven together a bit more uniformly, but overall it's creative, freaky, and funny. It probably wasn't on your radar before, but it... Read More This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
Comics on Film: Why the Hulk is Absent in 'Civil War' Comics And the Upcoming Movie Posted: 04 Sep 2015 03:03 PM PDT In May of 2016, Marvel Studios will kick off their third "phase" of films with the release of Captain America: Civil War, a film that seems like it may be the biggest film the studio has spearheaded thus far. While the two Avengers films, Guardians of the Galaxy, and the Iron Man films are nothing to shake a stick at, Civil War looks like a culmination piece in a lot of ways, just due to the sheer number of characters it'll be including. The film -- which is specifically labeled as a Captain America outing -- features practically all of the Marvel Cinematic Universe's major characters. From Captain America to Iron Man, Black Widow, Hawkeye, Falcon, the Winter Soldier, the Scarlet Witch, Vision, War Machine, Agent... Cary Fukunaga and Idris Elba Nearly Died Making 'Beasts of No Nation' -- Was It Worth It? Posted: 04 Sep 2015 01:30 PM PDT Cary Fukunaga's new movie, Beasts of No Nation, sounds like it was one of the most dangerous productions in history. The highly anticipated drama, about a child soldier in an unnamed African nation's civil war, arrives simultaneously in both theaters and on Netflix this fall. In a promotional interview with Variety the director, best known now for helming the first season of HBO's True Detective, revealed that he nearly died on location in Ghana. A couple times. First, Fukunaga came down with stage-two malaria the weekend before shooting was to begin, and production was delayed. Once cameras began rolling, amidst troubles involving washed-away sets and local actors quitting or being jailed, the bad omens continued. The writer-director came very... Movie News: Watch an 'Avengers: Age of Ultron' Gag Reel; 'Goosebumps' Sequel On Its Way Posted: 04 Sep 2015 12:00 PM PDT Avengers Gag Reel: Superheroes are far from perfect, as evidenced by this funny behind-the-scenes gag reel for Avengers: Age of Ultron, which hits DVD/Blu-ray October 2. Note that this isn't the entire thing, but it is a tease of what you'll be able to find on the discs when they hit shelves. Goosebumps: Heading for release on October 16, Goosebumps has already enjoyed positive advance buzz, and now it's reported that Sony is planning a sequel. It's not unusual for studios to make such plans; that way they can be ready to roll if box office returns meet or exceed expectations. The movie is inspired by a long line of books by R.L. Stine which have sold more than 350 million copies worldwide; Jack Black plays a fictionalized version of the author. [The...
