'The Wave' Proves You Don't Need Hollywood to Make a Great Disaster Movie Posted: 28 Sep 2015 07:30 PM PDT It's long been the status quo that America is where movies stocked with visual effects that look like they cost a billion dollars come from. And while that probably won't change tomorrow, there are other areas of the world muscling their way into Hollywood territory. And while movies like China's Monster Hunt tend to grab all the headlines thanks to box office records, one unlikely country continues to wow with elaborate spectacle year after year: Norway. Norway is the land that's given us the gobsmacking coolness of Trollhunter, a movie that came out of nowhere and showed that an indie filmmaker from halfway around the world can make a movie that's as fun, adventurous, and creative as anything coming out of Hollywood, if not more so. They're also the home... Read More This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
A Guide to Alejandro Inarritu's 'Revenant' With Gorgeous New Images Posted: 28 Sep 2015 06:00 PM PDT Even if his last movie hadn't just won Best Picture, Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu's next effort would be one of our most anticipated of the year. Titled The Revenant, it's another collaboration between the writer/director and his Birdman cinematographer Emmauel Lubezki (both of whom also received Oscars this year for that movie). And judging by a bunch of new images just released from the period drama [via Yahoo], it definitely looks like another visual winner. Here's all you need to know about the feature, plus those latest stills: The Revenant is based on a novel but also a true story Inarritu and Vacancy scribe Mark L. Smith loosely adapted Michael Punke's 2002 novel The Revenant: A Novel of Revenge, which itself is loosely based on the... 'The Walk' VR Experience Is the Best Movie-Related Virtual Reality We've Seen Yet Posted: 28 Sep 2015 04:30 PM PDT Wanna know what it feels like to walk on a wire between two buildings over 100 stories off the ground? Before I put on the VR headset and prepare to virtually walk on a wire between the Twin Towers as Philippe Petit, circa 1974, the dude operating it tells me that most of the people who attempt it take one step and then quit. I feel my stomach drop slightly -- partly because I'm now a wee bit scared of this particular VR experience, and partly because I don't want to look like a scaredy-cat in front of the huge line waiting to try this sucker out. So I take a deep breath, throw the headset on and what followed might just be the most visceral, all-encompassing movie-related VR experience I've ever had. But let's back up. In case you haven't heard... Read More This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
'Avengers: Age of Ultron' Deleted Scene: Watch Thor Get Freakishly Possessed Posted: 28 Sep 2015 03:00 PM PDT One of the subplots that was trimmed down in Avengers: Age of Ultron involved Thor going off on a quest to learn more about the Infinity Stones and how they may help assist the Avengers in defeating Ultron. In the original 195-minute cut of the film, Thor joins Dr. Erik Selvig (Stellan Skarsgard) by a pool of water -- but this ain't no ordinary pool of water. Check it out below. In the final version of the film that hit theaters, Thor has a vision off screen regarding the Infinity Stones that he tells the other Avenegers about. Here is some more context regarding the scene above from an interview with director Joss Whedon (via Slashfilm): "There was a 195-minute cut of this movie. The original scene was that Thor went to speak to the Norn and how it... Read More This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |

The Arachnophobia star is playing a government official named Randa who leads the expedition to the titular island, joined by Tom Hiddleston, Brie Larson, Samuel L. Jackson and John C. Reilly. Here's hoping he gets to wrestle a giant spider in the movie, which recently jumped from Universal to Warner Bros., where it will lead into a crossover with Godzilla. [Deadline] Furious 8: Vin Diesel took to social media to clear up last week's rumors about the next Fast & Furious installment.
