Here's Lucy! Cate Blanchett to Play Lucille Ball Posted: Cate Blanchett is adding to her resume of playing famous people. The Wrap reports that the actress is in talks to star as Lucille Ball in an movie written by Aaron Sorkin. The authorized biopic traces Ball's 20-year marriage to "I Love Lucy" co-star Desi Arnaz before their divorce in 1950. The project is being produced by their two children, Lucy and Desi Jr. Blanchett is no stranger to embodying Hollywood icons. She won her first Oscar for playing movie icon Katharine Hepburn in Martin Scorsese's "The Aviator." She's also played Queen Elizabeth I twice. Though the actress has never worked with "Social Network" scribe Sorkin before, their names were linked in the Sony email hack when Sorkin said that Blanchett's Oscar-winning performance in "Blue Jasmine" was "nothing close to the degree of difficulty" of the Best Actor-nominated performances that year. Oscars 2016 Ceremony Will Have Two (or More) Hosts, Since It Went So Well Last Time Posted: Like that say, fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, and shame on you Oscars. There's a new team of producers next year's Oscars, and one of them has revealed that they are looking for two (or more!) hosts. "There will be multiple hosts for sure - there will be two," former Fox executive David Hill told Entertainment Weekly. His producing partner, former BET entertainment president Reginald Hudlin, walked those comments back a little, telling EW, "We have absolutely talked about duos. We've talked about a lot of different configurations. I love that David is a flamethrower, and I'm always way more secretive and tight-lipped. But we're still very much in the brainstorming phase." The last time there were two hosts was in 2011, when James Franco and Anne Hathaway's emceeing gig was, shall we say, not well-received. (OK, fine, everyone hated it.) So, why go back to two hosts after that debacle? Perhaps Hill and Hudlin are thinking about the much-applauded job that Tina Fey and Amy Poehler did in hosting the Golden Globes three years in a row. They could try to copy the Golden Globes, or go with another well-known duo. EW suggests Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele, whose Comedy Central show is ending this year. Maybe Miley and Nicki will be available? Want more stuff like this? Like us on Facebook. This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
'Star Wars: Episode VIII' Looking at Gina Rodriguez, Tatiana Maslany, Olivia Cooke For Lead Role Posted: "Star Wars: Episode VIII" is looking at a galaxy far, far away for its lead actress - the galaxy known as television. The Wrap reports that "Episode VIII" director Rian Johnson is narrowing in on a few names: Golden Globe winner Gina Rodriguez ("Jane the Virgin"), Emmy nominee Tatiana Maslany ("Orphan Black"), and Olivia Cooke ("Bates Motel," "Me and Earl and the Dying Girl") are reportedly reading for the lead female role opposite "The Force Awakens" star John Boyega this month. All three are fast-rising stars who have garnered considerable acclaim and award nominations. But it's still very, very early in the casting process, and The Wrap notes that Johnson is still auditioning a number of women for the part. The pieces are slowing coming together for "Episode VIII"; Benicio del Toro is in talks to star as the movie's big villain. "Episode VIII" is scheduled to hit theaters in May 2017. Candace Cameron Bure Talks 'Fuller House': 'It Feels Like We Didn't Skip a Beat' Posted: In addition to "Fuller House," Candace Cameron Bure has a fuller plate, professionally. In addition to being the mother of three teens, the actress' schedule has gotten more and more packed since her popular third-place stint on "Dancing With the Stars" last year. She's reprising her trademark role as D.J. Tanner, now a widowed mom at the center of "Fuller House," the Netflix reunion series spinning out of the enduring 90s-era sitcom; she's lined up a series of made-for-TV projects with the Hallmark Channel, she recently releases a memoir/inspirational tome about her "DWTS" experience; and she just locked down a stint as one of the recurring co-hosts of the ABC daily chat series "The View." She recently chatted with Moviefone, just prior to "The View" announcement, but with plenty of time to talk about the rest of her staggering workload -- including reuniting with her former co-stars, her son's insta-crush on the grown-up Stephanie Tanner, and the one other show business job she's been coveting. Moviefone: Working on "Fuller House," what have you liked about this grown up version of D.J.? What's been the fun of learning about her and being her again? Candace Cameron Bure: I mean, we get to see her twenty-some years later, so it's just fun to see her as a mom, and to see what kind of mom she's become, and what kind of woman. And it's just a character that's so special to me, and it's fun to be able to develop her even more -- and particularly because I get to do that with the writers. And sit down and talk with them, and get to hear their thoughts. They hear my thoughts, and then so it just becomes this character that we all love. How early did you start talking with Jeff Franklin about where your character would be in these developments? Because your character is really like the lead of the show. Well, we're so happy that we have Jeff Franklin, who created the original show, because there's no one that knows the characters better than Jeff. And so, really since the show was in the conceptual stages, we started talking about the character, and just like with the original show, the writers would always want to know what was going on in our personal lives, and what would translate and couldn't translate that would be relatable to scripts on the show. And it's really the same for this show. I mean, they're asking me what kind of mom I am with my 3 kids. And so we're going to use a lot of my own personal experiences, but we'll make them DJ's. And in the way that she is a mom, and does life. It seems clear you guys in the cast were in regular contact before the reunion, but what's it like to reunite in this new environment? We are having the time of our lives, really. Yes, of course, we've all been great friends and we hang out all the time. But just to be on the stage together, and working together, we're all pinching ourselves and saying like, "It feels like we didn't skip a beat. It feels like we never left one another." And I think we're having even more fun this time around than we did the first time around, which is hard to beat because we had an amazing time. What was the biggest déjà vu moment so far? In the house? Not a déjà vu moment, but it's just surreal to be in the same place all together, on a soundstage together. So you just have those moments of like, "Whoa -- it's been a long time since we've been together." And you just have to stop and take a moment to absorb it. And then you're like, "OK, let's just laugh again." it seems like it's always a tragedy that brings the Tanners together. Like they move in together when they lose someone. So is there a bittersweet quality to the new reunion? No. I think the way they've developed the show, it is tragedy that starts off the show, which was like the original "Full House." But the themes are always heartfelt, it's always a situation you can learn something from. It doesn't have a different tone in that it's a sadder tone. Tonally, it'll feel the same as the original "Full House," which is heartfelt, and funny, and family friendly. But it's current. It's in today's times. Will we learn much about D.J.'s late husband? That's a good question. I think you'll learn little bits about him throughout the show. Just kind of you did on the original "Full House." I don't know any details of whether they'll have flashback scenes or anything like that. I have no idea. But we talk about it. Because when you have to. When that happens and you have children, it's something that you have to discuss. And discuss those emotions and the healing from it and how to move on with life...The baby's been born. I think for that very reason we didn't want to start it off quite so heavy. So some more time has passed than they originally intended. When we first heard that DJ was widowed, we thought immediately, "Oh my god, Steve is dead." But then we realized Scott Weinger is coming back. I know. Rest assured, Steve is not dead. So fans rejoice. Have your own kids seen the original "Full House"? And how do they feel about the revival? Yeah, they've seen the show and watched it. They're not mega-fans of the show, but my kids just don't watch a lot of TV. So my kids have loved coming to the set with me, and they're just interested in how it works. But they're really funny. Because they're going, "Wait, what's Joey's real name again? What's Danny's name?" And I think my son, Max, looked at Jodie Sweetin and he's like, "That's Stephanie? Wow, she's so pretty." He couldn't get over it, and just kept going, "Gosh, she's so pretty, Mom." Like, "I know, she is." So it's very cute. My kids are loving it. What can you tell us about your new book? "Dancing Through Life" was just released. And this book is about my time on "Dancing with the Stars." But it's much, much more than that. It was really about the journey of standing with courage and conviction on a platform in front of millions of people. So it really weaves my faith journey through a lot of it, and all the lessons that I learned week to week that apply to everyone through life in general. What's been fun about your relationship with the Hallmark Channel, now that it's gotten so in-depth with the recurring Aurora Teagarden films and the upcoming holiday movie "On Time For Christmas?" You're so plugged in with them and the audience. It's so great, because our brands are the perfect fit. And then just having known Hallmark for so long now, and then producing the films I've done more recently, it's great. Because I get to bring them projects. They bring me projects, and we just what's the best fit for both of us. And so that's really the best part for me is that it's a much closer relationship that way. That I'm really doing the types of movies that I want to do. Would you like to direct a Hallmark film? Nope. I have no desire to direct, but I love producing. Because I'm very detail-oriented, and I like making sure that things are done well. And I can see the vision of movies, the overall vision. But as far as the day to day of directing, I kind of wouldn't have a clue of where to start. That's just too much for my brain too handle. Robert Redford's Five Favorite Movies Posted: Robert Redford became a household name (and one of Hollywood's best actors) when he starred in "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid" in 1969. Cut to 46 years later and Redford is still making movies, but this time he's teaming up with Nick Nolte for "A Walk in the Woods." To celebrate his new film, Redford told us what his five favorite movies ever are. This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
'Bachelor in Paradise 2' Spoilers: What Happens in the Two-Night Finale? Posted: That delicious summer mess called "Bachelor in Paradise" is ending its 2015 season this Sunday, September 6 and Monday, September 7, followed by one last "After Paradise" special with Rosemaster Chris Harrison. We're really going to miss that cute opening pose from Kirk. Not so much all the *drama* and tears. But speaking of drama and tears (and Kirk), how are things going to end for the Season 2 couples? Paradise has been a revolving door of craziness, but there should only be one more person joining the mix -- beautiful single mom Cassandra Ferguson from Juan Pablo Galavis's season -- and a LOT of people are leaving. Reality Steve posted spoilers on the final two episodes of dates and departures, with scoop on the three couples that elected to stay together, including the one that got engaged. SUNDAY NIGHT o. According to Steve, when Cassandra arrives, she takes Justin on a horseback riding date. Nick uses the date card that Jaclyn gave him and takes Samantha on a date. Yep, more action for Sammi! Tanner will love commenting on it. o. Here's departure drama. As Steve put it, "During this episode, Jared leaves because he's not feeling it with Ashley I. He left before the cocktail party even happened. Dan also leaves because he's not feeling it with Amber. Juelia also left before the cocktail party since I guess she figured there wasn't anyone left she was interested in. At the cocktail party, Ashley I. then leaves because she doesn't have anyone left and apparently was still pining over Jared not being into her." What's not clear is if Jared leaves before he and Ashley do ... anything ... in the fantasy suite. She's a virgin and said he might be taking her virginity, so if he rejects her after anything resembling sexy time, it would be especially bad. Maybe that's why everyone is so mad in the finale promo. (See below.) But hopefully they just have a talk and he reiterates that he's not feeling it, since he's been trying to say the words I'm Just Not That Into You all season. Ashley I. tweeted something to that effect, giving us hope that things don't go too far: Good! Here's that Rose Ceremony breakdown: o. Kirk gives rose to Carly o. Joshua to Tenley o. Tanner to Jade o. Nick to Samantha o. Justin to Cassandra Steve said Mikey tried to give a rose to Mackenzie but she said no. FINALE NIGHT According to Steve, there are five couples left when the finale starts: o. Kirk and Carly o. Nick and Samantha o. Justin and Cassandra o. Tanner and Jade o. Joshua and Tenley They are all told they'll be getting dates and fantasy suites, but -- before any of the dates begin -- Kirk breaks up with Carly and they both go home. (Nooooo!) Here's how Steve describes the ultimate ending: The biggest news, obviously, is Tanner and Jade getting engaged, which the promo tries to hide with all of Jade's tears. Sorry to hear about sweet Tenley still not getting her happy ending. But isn't it funny that Samantha ended up with Nick, the dastardly winner of "Bachelor Pad 3," who infamously kept all the money for himself? Maybe they're the perfect match. Do you think any of those couples will still be together this time next year? Maybe Tanner and Jade will get married on the season premiere of "Bachelor in Paradise 3." Here's the finale promo, which you can scour for more hints: Want more stuff like this? Like us on Facebook. This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
Idris Elba and Jessica Chastain Respond to James Bond Comments Posted: Yesterday, the Internet grabbed torches and pitchforks over new 007 author Anthony Horowitz's comments about Idris Elba as a potential James Bond. In particular, his opinion that Elba was "a bit too 'street' for Bond" rubbed many fans the wrong way. The author apologized and clarified what he was asked in the interview and intended with his response. The actor himself was quiet for most of the day, while his name trended on Twitter, but he eventually shared a screen shot of Moviefone's article, with his own positive (but cheeky) response: Good for him for staying positive -- especially since, after the outpouring of fan support, he probably has an even stronger chance of being cast as Bond. Maybe he wasn't sure how people felt about the idea before, but the verdict is now in: He can shake and stir us anytime. One fan not only wants Idris Elba as Bond, she wants to play his Bond villain, and that fan is the one and only Jessica Chastain: Perfect. Done and done. Whenever Daniel Craig retires, the next group's casting is already complete. (Side note: Remember all the complaints about "rough," "gritty," "ugly" Daniel Craig when he was cast as the first "blond Bond"? He wasn't considered suave enough either, at first.) How do you feel about Idris Elba as a future Bond, and Jessica Chastain as a Bond villain? Want more stuff like this? Like us on Facebook. Theon's Uncle Euron Cast in 'Game of Thrones' Season 6? Spoilers on Major Scene Posted: Silence may have arrived at the Iron Islands for "Game of Thrones" Season 6. Euron Greyjoy, aka Crow's Eye -- Theon Greyjoy's (Alfie Allen) scariest uncle -- appears to be joining the action for the 2016 season. *Spoilers ahead from GoT Season 6 filming and the A Song of Ice and Fire books* According to a September 1 report from Watchers on the Wall, parts of a major scene were filmed in Northern Ireland on Tuesday, with Danish actor Pilou Asbæk ("Lucy") in the role of Euron Greyjoy. Here's Pilou: They said he was involved in a scene where a crowd cheered for Euron, captain of the feared ship Silence. If that sounds like the Kingsmoot to you, that's exactly what sources told the site was happening. They added: They added that filming in that particular harbor would continue for the rest of the week, so they hoped to add more details. (Here are some filming spoiler photos.) In the book, Theon isn't at the Kingsmoot, where the Ironborn choose a new king, so he wouldn't be expected to be there on TV. (Plus, he's busy trying to flee Winterfell with Sansa Stark.) It'll be good to see Yara Greyjoy (Gemma Whelan) again; her book counterpart, Asha, was a big part of the Kingsmoot. Why no Victarion, though? And how will the overall storyline be adapted for the more condensed plot of "Game of Thrones"? Will someone will head out to try and win over Daenerys Targaryen? What are your thoughts on revisiting the Iron Islands in Season 6? What do you hope to see? Want more stuff like this? Like us on Facebook. Watch 'Walking Dead' Star Norman Reedus Throw Knives With Alice Cooper Posted: Because why not? Norman Reedus is now filming "The Walking Dead" Season 6, which premieres October 11 on AMC, but he took some time off from kicking butt as Daryl Dixon to show off some of his other skills. We know Daryl can shoot a crossbow, but here's Norman throwing a knife -- alongside Alice Cooper, of course -- and apparently the actor hit the target on the first try: Crossbows, knives, tongue licks. The man has skills. Norman tweeted a link to the video on Instagram early this morning, and ... yeah, that looks like "Walking Dead" producer/writer/special effects guru Greg Nicotero with them on the right. Norman is no stranger to Alice Cooper. Here's an old photo with them (back when Norman had shorter hair), and here's a newer one with Norman and a doll version of the singer. Daryl Dixon's alter ego recently told fans it would be "super fun" to be in a "Walking Dead" prequel spinoff following Daryl and his brother Merle. That may never happen, but it's still a cool idea. And Reedus clearly has the skills to pull off anything TWD throws at him. He'll just throw it back! Want more stuff like this? Like us on Facebook. River Song Is Returning to 'Doctor Who,' But How? Posted: The amazing Alex Kingston is reprising her role of River Song for the December 25 "Doctor Who" Christmas special. "River Song" got herself trending on Twitter for the big news, which has fans excited -- and curious. How is this going to work? The time-traveling River Song is married to the Doctor and has appeared in 15 episodes since 2008, but this will be her first interaction with Peter Capaldi's Doctor. It's also the first time viewers will see her since she appeared to die. "To be honest, I did not know whether River would ever return to the show, but here she is, back with the Doctor for the Christmas special," Kingston said (via Variety). "Steven Moffat is on glittering form, giving us an episode filled with humor and surprise guest castings. I met Peter for the first time at Monday's read-through, we had a laugh, and I am now excited and ready to start filming with him and the Doctor Who team. Christmas in September? Why not!" Executive producer Steven Moffat said, "The last time the Doctor saw her she was a ghost. The first time he met her, she died. So how can he be seeing her again? As ever, with the most complicated relationship in the universe, it's a matter of time ..." A matter of time... RadioTimes listed a bunch of potential ways it would make sense for River to return, with the first being "It's an earlier version of River." They offer an extended argument for why that's the case, and it does seem most likely. Do you agree that viewers will see an earlier version of River? If not, what's your theory? "Doctor Who" begins its new run on September 19 on BBC America. Want more stuff like this? Like us on Facebook. This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |

Best of Late Night TV: Salma Hayek's 49th Birthday, Gary Busey's Wild DWTS Announcement Posted: If you're like us and value your sleep, you probably nodded off into your Ambien dreamland before the party started on post-prime time TV. Don't worry; we've got you covered. Here's the best of what happened last night on late night. Happy birthday, Salma Hayek! "The Prophet" star was on "Jimmy Kimmel Live" Tuesday night, and as she was on the air it went past midnight, so it was her birthday, September 2. (We should all look that good at 49.) Salma said one time she got a great birthday present from Antonio Banderas when they were filming "Desperado." She had bonded with two monkeys, who were cut from the film, and she was devastated when they were gone. The next day was her birthday and Antonio got the monkeys for her. One of the monkeys ended up falling in love with her and created a bit of a love triangle. Great story and the video ends with a pinata which Jimmy and Guillermo had to help her take down. It was indestructible! Salma also talked about the origin of her name. When she grew up, there were at least three "Salma Hayek"s that she knew of. There are three languages spoken in her home -- English, Spanish, and French. She tries not to curse in front of the kids, but her favorite cursing language is Spanish. "Celebrity Apprentice" drama magnet Gary Busey is apparently joining "Dancing With the Stars" Season 21. He rode onto "Jimmy Kimmel Live" on a horse as part of the big announcement. The rest of the fall 2015 cast was announced on "Good Morning America." Gary should be good for some soundbites, if nothing else. Anthony Sadler, who helped disarm that gunman on the French train, was on "The Tonight Show" Tuesday night and walked Jimmy Fallon through the whole experience, to describe how his European trip with his friends ended up with an act of heroism. Elle Fanning was on "The Tonight Show" to talk about playing a transgender boy in the upcoming movie "About Ray" and she also previewed her senior high school class pose. Liev Schreiber was on "Tonight Show" and talked about working out with Hugh Jackman when they shot "Wolverine." Would he come back for the new movie? He said her heard the story is Old Man Logan, so he figured he could be Old Man Sabretooth. And in case you want a status update on Jimmy's feud with gamers, it's getting worse. Conan, Seth Meyers, and James Corden are on repeats this week, but Stephen Colbert starts on "The Late Show" next week on September 8. Want more stuff like this? Like us on Facebook.
