The September Geek Guide: Star Wars Prequels, A Cute Freddy Krueger, And More To Look For Posted: 02 Sep 2015 09:00 PM PDT The summer movie season might be winding down, but there's still a lot of great, geeky stuff to be found in this month's slate of newly available (and upcoming) movies, comics, and collectibles. Along with two of the year's coolest movies hitting the DVD and Blu-ray market, the month of September also features some cool new books you'll want to look for, as well as a few more theatrical features you might want to keep on your radar. Here are ten things to keep an eye out for this month: Journey to Star Wars: The Force Awakens – Shattered Empire #1 & 2 The premiere of Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens is still a few months away, but Disney and Lucasfilm are getting things started a little early with a series of comic books and... Watch: 'Hell's Club' Is a Killer Way to Make a Movie Mashup Posted: 02 Sep 2015 07:30 PM PDT It seems like every single conceivable thing in a movie is part of a supercut or mashup these days. But most of those videos do little more than assemble a roll call of clips culled from YouTube. They're basically just audio-visual listicles. That's not the case with Hell's Club, which is one of the coolest movie mash-ups we have ever seen. Created by editor Antonio Maria Da Silva, Hell's Club imagines a place where countless movie icons all hang, danc together, fight together, drink together, and sometimes die together. It may sound like a weird proposition, but the way he manages to cut together the Terminator, Tom Cruise's hitman from Collateral, Sharon Stone's vixen from Basic Instinct, and many, many, many more pop culture icons into one scene is just... Two Hosts Sought for the Oscars: Which Duo Would You Choose? Posted: 02 Sep 2015 06:00 PM PDT Oscar season has begun, and while it's fun to look through festival guides and fall movie previews and speculate about the awards contenders, first there has to be a ceremony. Well, there will indeed be a show, and the Academy has just announced its producers: Reginald Hudlin (director of House Party and an Oscar-nominated producer of Django Unchained) and David Hill, a former Fox exec behind the launch of Fox Sports. As their first order of business, Hudlin and Hill announced there will be two hosts for the 2016 Academy Awards. “There will be multiple hosts for sure – there will be two,” Hill told Entertainment Weekly. Of course, they don't have anyone in mind just yet. Or they're not offering up any names, anyway. Hill did joke that if they run out... Steven Spielberg Thinks Superhero Movies Are Just a Trend -- Do You? Posted: 02 Sep 2015 04:30 PM PDT It's difficult to call something a trend when it's enjoying a high point in popular culture. Are superhero movies just a trend, destined to eventually die out along with the Beanie Babies and Pogs? Steven Spielberg thinks so -- as do others who simply write off this recent wave of superhero movies as nothing but a blip on the cinematic radar. "They don't matter!" "They're just a trend!" Yeah, tell that to Captain America's face. Speaking to the Associated Press, Spielberg compares superhero movies to the Western and thinks it's only a matter of time before we turn our attention elsewhere. "We were around when the Western died and there will be a time when the superhero movie goes the way of the Western. It doesn't mean... PSA: Amazon Prime Video Will Now Let You Watch Movies Offline Posted: 02 Sep 2015 01:30 PM PDT Calling streaming movies the wave of the future is a bit outdated because that future is already here. Streaming movies to all kinds of devices is totally normal these days and the quality of service just keeps getting better. There is one big problem with streaming services, though: they have to, uh, stream. No internet connection, no streaming. One of the biggest players in the game, however, is looking to solve that little problem. Amazon Prime Video will now allow users to download content to mobile devices for offline playback. As of right now, this unfortunately doesn't apply to every single video on Amazon's service. Some previously existing agreements with certain content owners will have to be amended to allow for offline viewing, but they're taking a big...
