Olivia Cooke Will Insert a Token Into 'Ready Player One'

Posted: 11 Sep 2015 07:00 PM PDT

Just last week a shortlist hit the Internet reporting the final contenders for the lead female role in Steven Spielberg's Ready Player One were Elle Fanning, Lola Kirke (Mistress America), and Olivia Cooke. And today we've got an even shorter shortlist. It has just one name on it: Olivia Cooke. Cooke was already a bit of a rising star thanks to the horror movies The Quiet Ones and Ouija, but that star started to skyrocket after her titular role in the Sundance hit (with critics, at least; audiences didn't turn out quite as much) Me and Earl and the Dying Girl. In Ready Player One, Cooke will be taking on the role of Sam / Art3mis, who is both the love interest of and competitor against the main character, a boy named Wade who has yet to be cast. The game they're...

For the vast majority of the existence of superheroes, many fans have seemingly drawn a line in the sand between the characters they support, and the ones they don't. Division is inherent in basically any topic that people enjoy talking about: chocolate or vanilla, apples or oranges, Democrat or Republican, and DC or Marvel. While most fans are generally more moderate and enjoy characters from both stables equally, there are a sizable amount of comic book partisans who prefer one over the other. Naturally, as direct competitors in the realm of comics, that extends to the companies themselves. Over the past 50 years, the rivalry between the homes of Spider-Man and Superman have exchanged anything from good-natured jabs in each other's directions, to slightly more...

In recent days, we've been hearing about casting for Kong: Skull Island, which promises to explore the island where King Kong and other prehistoric creatures (i.e. dinosaurs) roam freely. Tom Hiddleston, Brie Larson, and Corey Hawkins are set to star, with Samuel L.Jackson, Tom Wilkinson, John C. Reilly, and Jason Mitchell in various stages of talks to join the adventure. But now comes word from Deadline that the movie, which is being produced by Legendary Pictures, is shifting distributors from Universal Pictures to Warner Bros, which opens up exciting new possibilities for more monster movies. That's because Legendary Pictures already has a deal set up for their franchise Godzilla property to be distributed through Warner Bros., with a sequel already on its way. The...
