Ellen DeGeneres Did Not Enjoy Being an 'American Idol' Judge Posted: Ellen DeGeneres wants nothing more than for everyone to be kind to and supportive of one another, and that's precisely why the talk show host didn't enjoy her experience as a judge on "American Idol" back in season 10. DeGeneres explained herself during a recent interview on Howard Stern's radio show, calling her one-season appearance on the singing competition series "one of the worst decisions I've made." But before you think that DeGeneres has suddenly morphed into fellow one-season judge Mariah Carey, who famously trashed the show after her season 12 judging stint, DeGeneres said that her opinion had more to do with her personal dislike for dashing contestants' hopes than for her feelings about the show itself. "As a fan of the shows, it doesn't matter that I sing or I know anything about pitch ... I'm like everybody else at home, so I thought I'm gonna represent those people at home that have opinions," DeGeneres said of what initially interested her in joining the judging panel. "But then I just thought ... I can't break this person's heart. Let somebody else do that." DeGeneres even admitted as much when she first got the gig. In this clip that ran on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" back when "Idol" season 10 debuted in 2010, she told fellow judge Kara DioGuardi, "It's hard ... giving bad news," adding, "I'll get used to it, I guess." Looks like she never did, though that's not necessarily a bad thing. We're glad Ellen is still being herself. J.K. Rowling Says You're Pronouncing Voldemort's Name Wrong Posted: Throughout the "Harry Potter" series, villain Voldemort was also known as He Who Shall Not Be Named. Now, it seems that maybe that moniker stuck because no one could actually pronounce his real name correctly. In a Twitter exchange with a "Potter" fan this week, author J.K. Rowling admitted that she's probably the only person who pronounces Voldemort's name the way she intended: without the T at the end. Wait, what?! Well, first, some background: The name "Voldemort" is derived from French, and translates literally as "flight of death." And anyone who studied the language back in junior high can tell you that consonants at the end of French words are silent, meaning that we should all be saying "Vol-de-more" when we utter the Dark Lord's name. But of course, anyone who's ever watched the films also knows that none of the characters call him this, not even his most loyal Death Eaters, and not Tom Riddle, who appeared before Harry in "The Chamber of Secrets" and revealed himself to be the younger version of You Know Who. So what gives? Did Hogwarts not offer an O.W.L. in French? We may never know, but since Rowling said she's alone in this battle, we think it's safe to keep pronouncing Voldemort however you see fit. (Or stick with the safer He Who Must Not Be Named to avoid offending more sensitive magical folk.) [via: J.K. Rowling] This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
You Need to Watch This Couple's 'Drunk History'-Style 'How We Met' Story Posted: Not many people would want to get wasted, tape themselves talking, and then show that video to their closest friends and family. But when you're mimicking the folks at "Drunk History" and explaining your "how we met" story for your wedding, then it's pretty much the most genius idea ever. California couple Justin Willman and Jillian Sipkins took inspiration from the hilarious Comedy Central series for their own version of "Drunk History," filming a mini-movie that tells the tale of their multiple chance meetings before they started dating. As Willman explained on his Facebook page, he and his fiancee "didn't want to waste time at the wedding reception having to answer the question 'how did you two meet?', so with the help of a few friends and a lot of booze we made this video to show at the rehearsal dinner." Earlier this year, Willman, a comedian and magician (and host of Food Network show "Cupcake Wars"), and Sipkins, a photographer, got plastered, and sat down to tell the tale, which includes Sipkins initially thinking a bowtie-sporting magician was lame, and Willman immediately thinking the chick snapping photos was cute. Cut to six months later, and then another year after that, and the pair finally had their first official date. The fact that all this is narrated and then acted out exactly in the style of "Drunk History" is not only hilarious, but impressive, too, especially considering how much time and effort must have gone into the production and editing process. Kudos to Willman and Sipkins (who officially got hitched on September 6) and all their talented friends for their creativity -- and the rest of their loved ones for getting the joke. "It went over better than we ever expected," Willman said in an interview with BuzzFeed. "Even grandma, who we were worried wouldn't get it, was raving." Check out the awesomeness for yourself below. Meet the Cast in This 'American Horror Story: Hotel' Teaser Posted: FX just dropped a new teaser trailer for "American Horror Story: Hotel," giving fans their first glimpse of some of the key players on the upcoming fifth installment of the anthology series. The clip takes viewers on a whirlwind tour of the hallways of the titular establishment, and along the way introduces a colorful -- and yes, quite scary -- cast of characters. There's Chloe Sevigny and Wes Bentley striding side by side, someone tied up in a mattress -- and Sarah Paulson's Hypodermic Sally trying to cut them out -- while hotel manager Iris (Kathy Bates) looks on in disapproval. Angela Bassett's actress character Ramona struts by looking like a '70s goddess (towing a man on a leash for good measure), Matt Bomer looks fab in an all-pink ensemble in an all-white room (and is that a weird metal glove like the one Lady Gaga was sporting in her first "AHS" promo?), and Max Greenfield wields a pair of scissors while sporting a sexy punk look. Of course, all that's nothing compared to the main attraction: Gaga herself, whose Countess is introduced with a shot of her long, looooong locks, and an all-too-brief turn to the camera. There's plenty to parse here (what's up with all the creepy little children running around?!), so take a look for yourself, and just try to contain your excitement. "American Horror Story: Hotel" opens on FX on October 7. Photo credit: YouTube This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |

Watch 'Friends' Get Recut Into the Creepiest Horror Movie Ever Posted: Could this trailer BE any creepier? Thanks to a very patient citizen of the internet, one with lots of time on their hands, we now have "Friends" recut as a horror movie. And there is life before, and life after, watching it. Classic moments from the series -- including Phoebe's "My eyes! My beautiful eyes!" and the one where Monica wears a Thanksgiving turkey on her head -- get put through a very Hitchcockian, black-and-white lens with the help of a few jump scares and a moody score. And to make it even more terrifying -- yes, Janice makes an appearance. *shudder* Watch below... if you dare. Netflix Reveals 'Jessica Jones' Teaser and Release Date Posted: "Jessica Jones" has booked her arrival on Netflix. The streaming service released a teaser for the upcoming comic book series, which revealed that all 13 episodes would debut on November 20. The drama stars Krysten Ritter as the titular former superhero, who's given up her career to start a detective agency. David Tennant plays villain Kilgrave and Mike Colter is Luke Cage, with Rachael Taylor, Carrie-Anne Moss, Eka Darville, Erin Moriarty, and Wil Traval also appearing. The brief teaser unfortunately doesn't show any actual footage, but it's a moody, noir-ish bit that seems to reflect the tone of the show. "Jessica Jones" will be part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe on Netflix, like "Daredevil." Colter will star in the upcoming "Luke Cage," and Netflix is also making "Iron Fist." And then, if all goes according to plan, those characters will be brought together in "The Defenders." Want more stuff like this? Like us on Facebook. Watch Justin Timberlake and Jimmy Fallon Do the 'Single Ladies' Dance at U.S. Open Posted: "All the single ladies" also includes Justin Timberlake and Jimmy Fallon! The singer and late night host are longtime friends who attended last night's U.S. Open match between Roger Federer and Richard Gasquet. They were hanging out before their sixth "History of Rap" collaboration aired on "The Tonight Show." While they were watching the quarterfinals match from the Emirates Suite box, Beyoncé's song "Single Ladies" began playing in Arthur Ashe Stadium. That prompted the besties to get up and follow along with the famous choreography: The dance delighted the crowd and proved to be a good omen for Federer, who easily won the match in straight sets. And Timberlake and Fallon have achieved #peakbromancegoals.Want more stuff like this? Like us on Facebook. This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
13 Hottest Shirtless Moments From 'Teen Wolf' Posted: "Teen Wolf" is a gift. Filled with wit, strong female characters, and, most importantly, an endless cavalcade of shirtless guys. While we (sometimes) watch for the plot, we also don't mind watching the men of "Teen Wolf" run around half-naked, so we're reliving some of those moments. Here are our favorite shirtless moments of "Teen Wolf." This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
Kristen Wiig, Donald Glover Get Their Science on In This Exclusive 'The Martian' Clip Posted: Matt Damon is lost in space, and it's up to Donald Glover and Kristen Wiig to bring him home. Well, them and a few other big-name actors and dozens of NASA officials in "The Martian," one of the most-anticipated films of the fall. Ridley Scott's newest sci-fi film, based on the popular book, casts Damon as an astronaut struggling to survive on Mars after an accident strands him there. Wiig and Glover play key members of the team charged with coming up with a plan to bring him back to Earth. In this exclusive clip, we see them work out their plan using science, big words and (naturally) a pen click to the face. Watch the clip below. "The Martian" hits theaters Oct. 2. The 15 Most Iconic Movie Stalkers, Ranked by Obsession Level Posted: Michael Ealy plays a smooth stranger-turned-psycho stalker in "The Perfect Guy," one of the season's most anticipated thrillers, but he's far from the first charming creepster to grace the big screen and he likely won't be the last. So, to honor the underrated and highly entertaining sub-genre, we've compiled a list of 15 of our favorite crazy-ass movie stalkers who vary in size, shape, gender, motive, and degree of insanity, but share one very important trait: a violent, terrifying, and generally entertaining obsession. Also, they almost always kill the family pet... This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
Best of Late Night TV: Justin Timberlake's History of Rap and Ellen DeGeneres' Lip Sync Battle Posted: If you're like us and value your sleep, you probably nodded off into your Ambien dreamland before the party started on post-prime time TV. Don't worry; we've got you covered. Here's the best of what happened last night on late night. The moment you've been waiting for is here: Justin TImberlake and Jimmy Fallon performed an epic mashup of The History of Rap -- including a rendition of R.Kelly's "Ignition Remix." Watch it once. Then watch it again. But wait. It gets better. Because Ellen DeGeneres swung by for a casual lip sync battle. And yes, she sung "Bitch Better Have My Money." In other news, Gabourey Sidibe got trapped in a Snoop Dogg weed cloud and recounted the harrowing tale to Seth Meyers. And over on Stephen Colbert's "The Late Show," the man himself sat down (er, lay down) with Scarlett Johansson to discuss some of life's deepest questions. Like "is there a differences between living and being alive," and "would you rather have feet for hands or hands for feet." Finally (and most amazingly), Jason Sudeikis recounted losing his virginity on "The Late Late Show." Spoiler alert: he was 16 and she was $45 an hour.
