Matt Damon Drops Details on New 'Bourne' Movie Plot Posted: Matt Damon will once again suit up as spy Jason Bourne for another flick about the character, and now, he's spilling some secrets about the film's plot, too. Of course, Damon didn't get into any specifics in an interview with the New York Daily News, but the actor did reveal some of the motivations behind his character's actions -- and the flick's plot -- that fuel this new movie. "[Bourne] has his memory back, but that doesn't mean he knows everything," Damon told NYDN. "It's 12 years since Jason Bourne has been on the grid. So we have to answer the questions, Where's he been? What's he doing? What gets him going again? So once we solved all that, then we had a movie." It's all pretty vague, and not much to go on, but still, it's exciting to hear Damon talk about the franchise again, after stepping down from the series to make way for Jeremy Renner's "The Bourne Legacy" in 2012. One concrete detail Damon dropped, however, is that the flick will focus on the fallout of a "post-Snowden" society, so we expect data mining, government surveillance, and personal privacy concerns to all play some part in the new "Bourne"'s plot. The as-yet-untitled fifth "Bourne" flick is due out on July 29, 2016. [via: New York Daily News] Photo credit: Getty Images This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
Leighton Meester and Adam Brody Welcome First Child Posted: Seth Cohen and Blair Waldorf are officially parents! Us Weekly reports that Adam Brody and Leighton Meester have welcomed their first child, though they have not publicly acknowledged the birth, which reportedly took place sometime within the past few weeks. The couple, who have kept a low profile since marrying in a secret ceremony in February 2014, never publicly addressed Meester's pregnancy, and did not reveal their new child's gender or name. This is the first child for both Brody and Meester, though their television peers have been busy with the babymaking business recently, too. Brody's "The O.C." costar (and ex-girlfriend) Rachel Bilson welcomed a baby girl, Briar Rose, with Hayden Christensen back in November 2014, while Meester's "Gossip Girl" castmate Blake Lively gave birth to daughter James with Ryan Reynolds in January. We'd love to see that playgroup get together some day. And there may be many more siblings on the way for Baby Brody in the future. Brody joked in a Reddit AMA back in August 2014 that he and Meester were looking to expand their brood considerably. "I say twelve," he responded when asked how many kids he and Meester plan on having. "And I decide!" Congrats to the happy family! Hugh Jackman Wants Tom Hardy to Take Over as Wolverine Posted: Hugh Jackman's tenure as Wolverine is winding down, with only one more movie left on his contract. So who does Jackman think would make a good replacement for him? None other than his fellow James Bond hopeful, Tom Hardy. In an interview with MTV International promoting his role in "Pan," Jackman was asked about his choice for who should strap on his iconic claws once his reign as Wolverine is over. Jackman admitted that he's still processing the fact that he's not going to be playing the character for much longer, and joked that he didn't "want to make it too easy on the studio to replace me." But when he thought about it, Jackman said, there was one candidate who stood out. "I think Tom Hardy could be great," Jackman told MTV. It's weird to imagine anyone else filling Wolverine's shoes, since Jackman has played the "X-Men" mutant for 15 years. But with Fox's penchant for bringing in younger versions of its original "X-Men" stars in flicks like "First Class" and the most recent "Days of Future Past," it makes sense that they'd be looking to reboot Wolverine, too. And as for his pick, Hardy has never been hotter. His "Mad Mad: Fury Road" starring role put him on the map earlier this year, and his name has been tossed about a whole lot recently in connection with potential James Bond casting. So why not Wolverine, too? For more of Jackman's thoughts on his Wolverine replacement, check out his interview below. 10 Reasons Why 'Scandal' Fans Are the Best Fans Posted: Being a loyal "Scandal" viewer is a beautiful thing, but they put up with so much. Twists, turns, outrageously unbelievable scenarios, extreme personalities.... you name it. Being a #gladiator isn't easy, but it sure is worth the struggle sometimes. Here are 10 reasons why "Scandal" fans are truly the best fans, as explained through GIFs. This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
'Empire' Season 2 Premieres to Second-Highest Ratings Ever Posted: "Empire" is back, and as big as ever. Wednesday night's season 2 premiere was watched by 16 million viewers and notched a 6.5 rating in the advertiser-coveted adults 18-49 demographic. Those numbers are just short of the season 1 finale record. "Empire" stunned the industry earlier this year, when its ratings climbed week over week for the entire season - an unheard-of feat, particularly in this era of fragmented television viewership. Fox is likely breathing a huge sigh of relief that "Empire" didn't suffer a sophomore slump, as many series do. And it's a very bright spot in a somewhat disappointing premiere week, with the network's "Minority Report" and "Scream Queens" debuting to soft numbers. Whether "Empire" can match its tremendous first season growth, though, is another question. But even if it merely maintains these numbers, it'll be one of the rare blockbuster TV hits of the last few years. Fox is certainly capitalizing on that - ads in the season 2 premiere reportedly went for $750,000, a peak "American Idol"-like figure. Want more stuff like this? Like us on Facebook. 'Walking Dead' Casts Tom Payne As Major Character Posted: Another new face is coming to "The Walking Dead" in season 6. British actor Tom Payne has joined the cast of the AMC zombie drama as a recurring character, with an option to return in season 7, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Spoilers ahead! Payne ("Luck," "The Physician") will play Paul Monroe, aka Jesus (pronounced like the Biblical figure). In the comics, he is a resident of Alexandria who moved there from a place called Hilltop Colony. Paul is described as "a rare logical man and skilled adviser with a strong sense of morals and values who is well-adapted to the new world." Paul becomes a key figure in the Alexandria group's fight against the brutish Saviors, led by the evil Negan. However, it's unclear if Negan will be introduced this season. Other signs have pointed to this season's villain being Gregory, who runs the Hilltop Colony. "The Walking Dead" season 6 premieres October 11 on AMC. Want more stuff like this? Like us on Facebook. 3 Huge Movie Roles You Won't Believe Will Smith Turned Down Posted: Hollywood stars are just like us normal folk: They turn down jobs sometimes, too. And like us, they also regret turning down some of those gigs -- especially when those roles become iconic, change-the-way-we-make-movies big deals. Just ask Will Smith, who passed on several game-changing parts. Just in time for Will Smith's birthday this week, here are a few big movies he turned down that would have made him an even bigger star. Quiz: Is This Actress Wearing a Wig? Posted: Sometimes when actresses (and occasionally actors) take on a role, they don't have the exact hair directors are looking for. Luckily for them, wigs exist! Though most shows will splurge for a wig so well-made you can't even tell it's a wig, other shows don't. So, test your wig knowledge with our quiz! Posted: If you're like us and value your sleep, you probably nodded off into your Ambien dreamland before the party started on post-prime time TV. Don't worry; we've got you covered. Here's the best of what happened last night on late night. The dream of the '90s is alive on "The Tonight Show"! Kenan Thompson and Kel Mitchell reunited for a "Good Burger" sketch, where Jimmy Fallon reminisced about his job back at the Good Burger: And here you can go behind the scenes of the sketch, or at least listen to Kenan & Kel stay in their sketch characters to talk about Good Burger: "Jimmy Kimmel Live" continued its live Mean Tweets Week on Wednesday night, with readings from Emily Blunt, Salma Hayek, Andrew Garfield and Jack Black. How could anyone hate them? Emily's wasn't that bad, and included a compliment for her eyes. Both women had disses for their voices, for whatever reason, and -- of course -- Salma's referenced her boobs. Andrew was compared to a pedophile and someone couldn't believe Jack was actually married. Here are the mean tweets from Monday and Tuesday. "Conan" had another awesome Clueless Gamer edition. He took on Lil Wayne and Tony Hawk in "Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 5," and revealed why Lil Wayne is one of the new skaters in the game. Tim Allen was also on "Conan" and talked about returning as Buzz in "Toy Story 4." They won't tell him anything about the plot but he goes back in about three weeks. Back on "Jimmy Kimmel Live," Jimmy and guest James Taylor showed a hilarious commercial for their (fake but should be real) new album, "In My Pants." Natasha Lyonne and Fred Armisen are apparently dating and, while on "Late Night With Seth Meyers," Natasha talked about Fred's crazy Freddy Krueger look at the Emmys and mentioned that fans always want her to sit on their faces. (!) Will Forte was also on "Late Night" and he and Seth sat facing each other, surrounded by candles, and cleared the air, admitting their past lies and mistakes: Stephen Colbert had two Hughs -- Hugh Jackman and Hugh Evans, discussing the goal of ending extreme poverty by 2030 -- plus Sen. Elizabeth Warren. And there was a Pearl Jam concert, which Colbert joined for "Rockin in the Free World." Check it out: Want more stuff like this? Like us on Facebook. Kerry Washington Talks 'Scandal': Olivia Pope Should Be 'Nobody's Role Model' Posted: As die-hard fans of "Scandal" know, there's not much that Kerry Washington can or will say about the upcoming, always-jaw-dropping twists and turns that the show's become beloved for -- and she admits that usually even she doesn't what's about to be thrown at her. But that doesn't mean she doesn't have a lot to talk about when it comes to Olivia Pope and the perilous world she inhabits created by Shonda Rhimes. As the show prepares to launch its fourth season, there's one conclusion about her character that she's come to, no matter how emotionally invested she or the show's admirers are in Olivia. "I've always thought it was really misguided when women tell me that Olivia Pope is their role model," says Washington, "because she's having an affair with a married man who is the President of the United States. And a murderer. And they stole an election together -- well, she stole it for him." But her weakness for Fitz (Tony Goldwyn), who she grows even closer to as the new season launches, doesn't mean there aren't qualities the actress believes are worth praise. "There are things about her that are very admirable," Washington says. "She is an entrepreneur; she is very smart; she has an amazing closet. And those are all things that I think are worthy of admiration -- but she is nobody's role model... All of these characters are complicated characters. There are no good guys and bad guys in ShondaLand. You have three‑dimensional, messy human beings." Washington recently gathered with a small group of reporters to expound -- as much as she could -- on Olivia's latest path, as well as offer some behind the scenes insight on the show and a few choice tidbits about her upcoming role as the groundbreaking political fgure Anita Hill in the upcoming HBO telepic "Confirmation." How much time do you spend thinking about Olivia Pope when you're not on set? Does she dominate a certain portion of your brain? Kerry Washington: Yeah, I think about her a lot. Mostly because the pace is so intense that when I'm not at work, I'm still trying to break down the episode and analyze the episode and arc out the episode and discover what the themes are for my character. Discover what this trajectory is. Figure out what's the underbelly emotionally. So I'm processing a lot of the time. But I do. I mean, it's important also that I turn it off. I spend time with my loved ones. I have other things that I do in my life. Is a happy ending possible for Olivia and Fitz? I don't know. But I will say that when we came back, Tony and I were really surprised by the episode when we came back -- so it wasn't what we expected. Has it been a challenging season for you to start, as far as getting that meaty, unexpected stuff to play? Yeah, I mean, we're only in Episode Two [laughs], but yeah. It's already been a bit of a ride. Two episodes on a Shondaland show is like half a season on another show. It's very true! How does affect you guys in the cast, the speed of the plot and how fast every card gets turned over? I think it adds to what we were talking about in terms of pace and just really taking care of yourself and taking care of yourself physically and also creatively so you really stay on your Ps & Qs and you're bringing all of what you have as an artist to the table and not giving in to fatigue. Is that hard after a hiatus? For me, I worked most of the hiatus. I was filming "Confirmation" for HBO, which I also produced. Because I was a producer, and then acting, I was pretty busy. so I didn't really come out of gear too much. I just had to switch identity. How was it doing that story? It was great. The film is not as much the Anita Hill story. It's about the hearings and about all the players. But it's a story that's really close to me and important to me. And we had a great time. The cast is spectacular. Have you met Ms. Hill? I have met her, yeah. What was that experience like? Pretty tremendous. She's a pretty tremendous person. What was the most interesting discovery about that particular role? Well, being a part of it from the very beginning as a producer -- and ["Erin Brockovich" screenwriter] Susannah Grant is our screenwriter and also a producer - so being part of the development from beginning to end was really interesting, because it was like "What story are we telling? How do we kind of bring life to all of these people?" That's why I say it's not really "The Anita Hill Story." It's about all the players. It's a peek behind the curtain into a time in history that we all remember, many of us. And some of us our younger people don't know, exactly. But it's a real peek behind the curtain to see what was going on - what was really at stake and what was really going on. With the election ahead, you've been part of the Obama administration-- I have. I still am. Will you continue to work with the new election coming up? Yeah, I will. I always have my whole life. I mean, I campaigned for John Kerry. That was the year that "Ray" came out. So I've always been a very involved person politically and socially. And I have every intention to continue doing that. With all that's on your plate, what do you do with your hours that you spend each day in hair and makeup? A lot of times I run lines, because our show is very language-intensive. So a lot of times, I run lines - not for that day, but maybe the next day because I always try to be at least a day ahead, or that day and the next day. Or I'm recording lines, because I work on my lines a lot by listening to them. So sometimes I'm recording my lines in the makeup chair. And then I try to make some phone calls and occasionally have a conversation. Are you good at compartmentalizing? I think so. I'm not as good as Olivia. She's really good at compartmentalizing. You've said that some days you're just ready to pack it in and let the ensemble take over. What brings you back every day? I'm not sure that I said that specifically. I said more that I try to quit acting all the time. Not necessarily the show. It's not that I would ever want to walk away from "Scandal." But sometimes I just think, "Eh, I think I'm done with this acting thing." What does bring you back to acting? The story. Just being able to tell story that matters. What do you love most about Olivia Pope's style? The Prada bags! We keep a closet for Olivia Pope because we try to reuse at least one item of clothing for every episode, so it feels like a real closet. So I don't keep anything. And also, her style is really different from mine. How so? I play a lot more with fashion. She's D.C. conservative, in a way. Even when I'm in Washington, I don't wear suits the way she does. But I love her wardrobe. I think the other thing I love about it is that Lyn Paolo, our brilliant costume designer, she and I work very closely to make sure that it's not just fashion for fashion's stake, but that it's telling a story. That the palette and the silhouettes are giving you clues about what's going on for these characters. How much do you know about what's happening this season? Nothing. All I know is what I'm working on. Shonda never sits you down to prep you on what's ahead? Not a thing! Do you prefer to play in the moment like that? It was very hard for me in the first couple of seasons because I am a Type A student and I like to use all my post-its and my tabs. And I come from film, where I'm used to kind of the dramaturgical approach, of a beginning, middle, and an end. And I can only do that per episode. But now, with a little bit of time, I just learned to trust our writers and say, "You guys know what you're doing." And I'll just take it one episode at a time. Do you ever raise your hand and say, "You know, I've been playing Olivia a while. This note doesn't seem quite right..." and work with them, or do you take it on faith? I think our writers are really open to feedback. We have such a great deal of respect for every word that they write, and they also have a great deal of respect for our understanding of the characters. So we don't really come to head. Oftentimes, we might say, "I don't know about this." And they say, "Well, let's look at it." And then, every once in a while, we're right. Has playing Olivia taught you something? Yes, playing Olivia has taught me a lot. It's taught the importance of a tailor. Tailoring is very important! I think the other thing, for me, is I've learned a lot from Olivia about courage. She's somebody who...it's not that she never gets scared, but when she's afraid, she still moves forward. And I feel like that's something that I really try to take home with me, that idea that there's always another way. There's always another solution. And you can seek a solution, even when you're afraid. This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
