'90s Nostalgia Strikes Again: 'Animorphs' To Get Rebooted On The Big Screen Posted: 10 Sep 2015 09:00 PM PDT The resurgence of '90s pop culture isn't going to slow down any time soon, but if you need further proof of that here's some news: Animorphs is heading to the big screen. Even if you never read any of the Animorphs series, you probably at least recognize the name because its book covers were all over every Barnes & Noble and Borders in the 1990s, and they certainly stood out because they are kind of terrible. Of course, you're never supposed to judge a book by its cover, but if we were to...let's just say we probably wouldn't be here today writing about a potential Animorphs movie. The series, created by K. A. Applegate, was about a group of kids who, after encountering an alien, gain the ability to morph into animals, which is super convenient... Watch Tom Hiddleston Sing as Hank Williams in First 'I Saw the Light' Clip Posted: 10 Sep 2015 07:30 PM PDT Tom Hiddleston is one of the hottest actors with the movie geek crowd, thanks mostly to his ongoing portrayal of Loki in the Thor and Avengers movies. But he's also a talented performer who just needs the right role to get him awards recognition beyond that which is given by MTV or for specifically sci-fi and fantasy works. And to make good on his breakthrough and rising star honors from a few years back. Well, biopics tend to bump stars up to the level of Oscar contention, so perhaps this fall's I Saw the Light will be Hiddleston's ticket to the club shared by so many of his MCU players, including Mark Ruffalo, Gwyneth Paltrow and now Benedict Cumberbatch. In the movie, which premieres this week at the Toronto International Film Festival, Hiddleston portrays country... Read More This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
Posted: 10 Sep 2015 06:00 PM PDT Key & Peele aired its final episodes last night and while it's a bit of a bummer to see the show go, it's also hard to complain considering it's been one of the best and boldest sketch comedy shows of all time. It's especially a bummer for anyone who also was as big of a movie geek as show creators Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele, who regularly filtered '80s and '90s movie nostalgia through their one-of-a-kind brains. They've done things like send up Hollywood action with L.A. Vice, while also giving us the most sophisticated movie hecklers ever. Recently they blew the lid off of the development process for Gremlins 2: The New Batch. And even in their final hour, the show had to give us one last, hilarious riff on movies. Everyone loves Ray... Read More This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
Joss Whedon Slid a Very Sneaky 'Angel' Easter Egg Into 'Avengers: Age of Ultron' Posted: 10 Sep 2015 04:30 PM PDT Marvel has been peppering their movies with fun little Easter Eggs ever since they put a replica of Captain America's shield on Tony Stark's workbench in the first Iron Man. Since then some of them have been important, like the Infinity Gauntlet showing up in Odin's Trophy Room in Thor, and some have been irreverent, like Cosmo the space dog popping up in Guardians of the Galaxy. But perhaps none of them have been as highly specific and dang near impossible to spot than the Wolfram & Hart Easter Egg in Avengers: Age of Ultron. What makes this such a fun and true Easter Egg is that it has nothing to do with Marvel properties whatsoever. In Angel, Joss Whedon's spin-off series from his fantastic Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Wolfram & Hart is a lawfirm... Read More This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
IMAX Theaters Will Start Making Their Own Movies Again Posted: 10 Sep 2015 03:00 PM PDT Nowadays, we're accustomed to seeing blockbuster movies opening weekly at IMAX theaters across the country. If you're of a certain age, though you might remember when the only movies that showed at IMAX theatres were nature documentaries. Starting in 1971, the company designed and placed theaters, mostly in museums and science centers, and showed only movies they made themselves. In the 1990s, however, IMAX decided to build theaters in multiplexes and, needing more content to fill the daily programming requirements, developed a new technology to make it easier to remaster standard-sized movies into giant-screened attractions. Apollo 13 (1995) served as a pioneer in using the technology, and the enthusiastic reception from audiences for the enhanced space thriller opened... Is Nike Finally Releasing the 'Back to the Future II' Power-Lacing Sneakers This October? Posted: 10 Sep 2015 01:30 PM PDT As soon as the clock struck midnight and 2015 strolled into our lives, various sites and news media were all over the connection between the year and the Back to the Future sequel in which Marty (Michael J. Fox) and Doc (Christopher Lloyd) travel from the '80s to the year 2015 because, as Doc warns Marty, "Something's got to be done about your kids!" Not surprisingly, director Robert Zemeckis' vision of 2015 is a bit different from the real 2015 -- most notably there are no flying cars and the Jaws franchise is (thankfully) not releasing its 19th installment. But some stuff is close to actually happening, and of course we're talking about those spiffy power-lacing Nike shoes that Marty rocks out in the movie. Fans have been on... The story follows "a group of renegade employees who venture to the moon to steal an energy source." [Variety] Pacific Rim 2: Filming on the sequel to monster movie Pacific Rim may be delayed. According to a rumor, the start date for production has been pushed from November to sometime in 2016, which could affect its scheduled release date of August 4, 2017.
