The Home of 'Miami Connection' and 'Roar' Finds Its Next Insane Movie to Re-Release Posted: 29 Sep 2015 08:04 PM PDT Everyone knows that feeling when they discover a truly bizarre movie for the first time and just can't wait to share it with friends, if only because watching it with other people confirms that it was not a hallucination and the movie in question actually exists. Over the last few years one of the best places to find these wholly unique gems that time forgot has been Drafthouse Films. They're the demented cinephiles who dug up and re-released Miami Connection, the explosive rock 'n roll martial arts movie that blows the lid off of the ninja-filled drug smuggling scene of the 1980s, and Roar, a movie filled with too many lions and "How are all these people not dead?" moments to really count. And now they've announced their latest acquisition, a movie... Read More This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
'Kingsman' Director Matthew Vaughn to Helm Spy Movie from 'Mad Max' Writer Posted: 29 Sep 2015 07:30 PM PDT Matthew Vaughn has come a long way since flopping with Stardust eight years ago. He made a popular franchise out of Kick-Ass, renewed interest in the X-Men franchise with the rebooting prequel X-Men: First Class and this year he surprisingly had his biggest hit yet with Kingsman: The Secret Service. Now he's got a Kingsman sequel in the works, but first he's going to direct a movie titled I Am Pilgrim. Here's all you need to know about it: It's not a comic book movie Despite sounding like a Scott Pilgrim reboot, I Am Pilgrim is not based on a comic book or graphic novel. The reason this is worth noting is that Vaughn's last three movies were comic adaptations. It's... Read More This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
Great Scott! Watch Doc Brown Return in New Short Film Tied to 'Back to the Future II' Posted: 29 Sep 2015 06:21 PM PDT While the word is still out on any kind of Back to the Future reboot or sequel, the story is continuing in other ways -- and we'll get to experience it next month when all sorts of Back to the Future-related schenanigans arrive in celebration of the original film's 30th anniversary. There will be a new comic book series debuting (and maybe even self-lacing Nike sneaks), as well as an original short film starring Christopher Lloyd as Doc Brown. The short -- which may be the first live-action continuation of the Back to the Future narrative that we've seen (Doc Brown has popped up several times over the years, but none of those one-off appearances were really BTTF canon) -- is called Doc Brown Saves the World, and a teaser trailer for it is now available to... The Studio Wants a Sequel to 'The Cabin in the Woods' Posted: 29 Sep 2015 03:00 PM PDT The Cabin in the Woods is one of the freshest, most inventive horror movies of the past decade -- a film that starts out as this very conventional story about a group of kids who find monstrous trouble while visiting a remote cabin in the woods, only to slowly transform into a wickedly wild and funny deconstruction of the genre itself. And now the studio wants more. Out doing press for The Martian [via Den of Geek], Cabin screenwriter Drew Goddard -- who teamed on Cabin with longtime collaborator Joss Whedon -- admitted that there's a desire for another Cabin in the Woods movie, admitting "the studio wants to do it" and that "they've come to us." Goddard goes on to say that they never really expected to do a sequel for the film, and that the ending... Read More This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
Posted: 29 Sep 2015 01:30 PM PDT Trainspotting 2: Danny Boyle has confirmed that the Trainspotting sequel is really going to happen, so long as everything goes according to plan, with shooting set for next May/June. Boyle says it will be another very tight production given the schedules of Ewan McGregor and Robert Carlyle in particular and that this sequel won't be named after nor does it have anything to do with Irvine Welsh's sequel to her own book, which is titled Porno. [THR] Playmobil: Robbers, Thieves & Rebels: France's ON Animation Studios (The Little Prince) is aiming for The Lego Movie level success with their own movie based on an iconic toy line. They've teamed up with Cross Creek Pictures (Black Mass) for an animated feature based... Read More This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
'Man vs Snake': An Unofficial Sequel to 'King of Kong' Has Arrived Posted: 29 Sep 2015 12:14 PM PDT Pac-Man. Donkey Kong. Space Invaders. These are the classics. Retro gaming brands so strong that they continue to have a hip presence decades removed from their arcade debuts. And then there’s Nibbler, a game that is at best only vaguely familiar - a derivative cross between Pac-Man and the ancient computer game Snake from jukebox manufacturer Rock-ola. It’s the game at the heart of the crowd-pleasing documentary Man Vs. Snake. The star of the film is Tim McVey, a small-town machinist whose teenaged glory days as the first billion-point scorer on Nibbler come back to haunt him as an adult. His record score is threatened by an unofficial upsuper from Italy and Dwayne Richard, a ”bad boy” veteran of the competitive gaming world. Like The King of Kong...
