New Trailer for 'High-Rise' Introduces Tom Hiddleston Into a World of Perversion Posted: 09 Feb 2016 08:00 PM PST There's an interesting pattern that tends to happen when an actor becomes a seemingly overnight obession due to a pop culture megahit. They pull a 180 and do a movie that's radically different from what made them famous. We saw it happen when Kristen Stewart transitioned away from the Twilight franchise and became one of the most sought after actresses in independent cinema. Her Twilight co-star Robert Pattinson took a similar direction, shifting away from glossy Hollywood and into more gritty, haunting fare like Cosmopolis and The Rover. And now it's Tom Hiddleston's turn to take the indie plunge. Hiddleston, who turned Loki from a simple trickster to a villain people kind of want to see win just so they can see more of him, stars in High-Rise, a very... Everything We Know About the New 'Jason Bourne' Posted: 09 Feb 2016 06:30 PM PST "Why would he come back now? asks Tommy Lee Jones in the brief trailer for Jason Bourne that debuted during the Super Bowl. That's a good question, as it's been nine years since we last saw the title character, in The Bourne Ultimatum (he was absent from the 2012 spinoff The Bourne Legacy). Fortunately, we have some answers, care of Matt Damon via Entertainment Weekly. Here's all we know about the upcoming sequel: Seriously, why is Bourne back now? As far as why the franchise has brought the character back, Damon and director Paul Greengrass finally saw enough change in the world for there to be an interesting story. "There’s been the financial collapse, the great recession, all these issues of cyber warfare and civil liberties... Read More This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
Reel TV: The New 'Star Trek' Recruits 'Hannibal' Mastermind to Run the Show Posted: 09 Feb 2016 05:00 PM PST We live in an age of fractured, multi-universe storytelling. You can blame multimedia licensing agreements that started long, long ago. They're the reason the X-Men can't be in a Marvel Studios movie, they're the reason The CW's The Flash will be a different version of Justice League's The Flash, and they're the reason we'll soon have two different Star Trek universes. That last part actually isn't too terrible, though. The J.J. Abrams version of the Star Trek universe is only seven years old and while it is a perfectly cast version of Trek, it's not traditional TV Trek. It's not all about boldly going where no man has gone before. It's not about a vision of the future that has evolved beyond the problems of contemporary Earth society... Lupita Nyong'o and Ava DuVernay Touted for Sci-Fi Thriller 'Intelligent Life' Posted: 09 Feb 2016 01:30 PM PST After winning an Academy Award as best supporting actress for her sterling performance in the historical drama 12 Years a Slave in 2014, Lupita Nyong'o has taken a different path than might be expected. Barely 20 years of age, Nyong'o only had a scant few screen credits when she landed her startling role in Steve McQueen's harrowing drama about slavery. Since then, she appeared in a supporting turn as a flight attendant in the Liam Neeson action thriller Non-Stop and then showed up as the motion-captured character Maz Kanata in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Next she's set to costar in Jon Favreau's The Jungle Book, voicing the mother wolf Raksha; that's set for release on April 15. But when will the very promising actress get a role that's worthy of... Now, however, a new installment, Saw: Legacy, is under development by Lionsgate. Josh Stolberg and Pete Goldfinger (Sorority Row, Piranha 3D) have been hired to write the screenplay. [Tracking Board] The Divergent Series: Ascendant: Robert Schwentke will not be directing The Divergent Series: Ascendant, as expected. Schwentke, who helmed the second and third installments of the popular franchise led by Shailene Woodley -- last year's Insurgent and this year's Allegiant, due in theaters on March 18 -- "just needed a break," according to the report. A new director will need to be hired quickly in order for Ascendant to meet its... Read More This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
