New 'Game of Thrones' Season 6 Photos Tease Returning Characters Posted: HBO just released a treasure trove of new photos from the upcoming sixth season of "Game of Thrones," and the images tease a bunch of new and returning characters -- and reveal that, yes, winter is indeed coming. Among the most notable images are those revealing the fates of some characters whose status was a bit murky at the end of season five. First, there's a glimpse of Sansa Stark (Sophie Turner) and Theon Greyjoy (Alfie Allen), who were last seen leaping off of Winterfell castle in last season's finale episode; in this new photo, they look pretty rough, but they're definitely still alive. And it looks that the poisoned Myrcella Baratheon (Nell Tiger Free) is indeed dead, appearing as a corpse in one image while Jaime Lannister (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) looks on. Also included is the new Three-Eyed Raven (Max von Sydow), as well as blind Arya (Maisie Williams), a badass-looking Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke, who has promised fans an epic season six), and a standing Bran Stark (Isaac Hempstead Wright), most likely in the midst of a vision flashback. Notably absent, however, is Jon Snow (Kit Harrington), who may or may not be dead/alive/coming back/definitely not coming back, depending on who you ask/the day of the week. (Though for what it's worth, he did pop up in the brief first teaser for the new season.) Check out a few highlights from the new photos below, and enjoy the entire gallery at the top of this post. 'Gilmore Girls' Revival: Danny Strong, David Sutcliffe Returning as Doyle and Christopher Posted: There's been a flurry of "Gilmore Girls" activity in recent days, with confirmations that a bunch of original cast members will be back for the revival, including all three of Rory's (Alexis Bledel) former boyfriends. Now, two more memorable men are joining the fold. First comes word from the Gilmore Guys podcast that Danny Strong will be reprising his role as Doyle, the neurotic editor-in-chief of the Yale Daily News and soulmate of Paris (Liza Weil). Strong has gone on to great success since he left "Gilmore," as the co-creator of "Empire" and the screenwriter of hit films including "The Butler." Weil previously confirmed her involvement in the revival, revealing that she'd star in two of the four 90-minute installments; we'd imagine that Paris and Doyle are probably married with several kids by now, and Strong will most likely appear alongside her in those two episodes. The next return is a bit more controversial: Variety reports that David Sutcliffe will also be back. Sutcliffe's character, Christopher (Rory's dad and Lorelai's former flame), didn't exactly end the series on the best terms, after he tried to make a go of things with Lorelai (Lauren Graham). After a quickie wedding in season seven, the pair soon realized they weren't meant to be, and he split, laying the groundwork for Lorelai to reunite with Luke (Scott Patterson) in the series finale. The last we saw of him, he was proudly watching Rory graduate from Yale. Strong and Sutcliffe join an ever-growing cast list for the revival that also includes Graham, Bledel, Patterson, Weil, Kelly Bishop, Keiko Agena, Sean Gunn, Milo Ventimiglia, Matt Czuchry, Yanic Truesdale, Rose Abdoo, and John Cabrera. There's no word yet on when the revival will premiere, but it's expected to arrive on Netflix sometime later this year. 'Harry Potter and the Cursed Child' Is Already a Bestseller Posted: Muggles across the globe rejoiced yesterday when author J.K. Rowling announced that she would publish an eighth installment in the "Harry Potter" franchise, in the form of the script for "Harry Potter and the Cursed Child," the new play (and "Potter" sequel) hitting the London stage this summer. It should come as no surprise, then, that fans were so thrilled that they immediately ordered the book, sending the title to the top of several bestseller charts less than 24 hours later. Retailers including Amazon, Amazon UK, Barnes & Noble, and UK chain Waterstones all list "Cursed Child" as their number one title more than five months before the book's release. The tome, featuring the rehearsal script for "Harry Potter and the Cursed Child - Parts I & II," is set to be released on July 31 (which also happens to be Harry's birthday), the day after the play debuts on London's West End. The ambitious project came about thanks to a collaboration between Rowling, playwright Jack Thorne, and director John Tiffany, who announced the play last summer. According to the trio, the story was split into two parts "due to the epic nature of the story," and will closely follow Harry's youngest son, Albus Severus Potter, as he navigates his first year at Hogwarts and his father's looming legacy. The action picks up immediately after the events of the "Deathly Hallows" epilogue, 19 years after Voldemort's defeat. With the publication of the script, "Potter" fans who haven't cosplayed since "Deathly Hallows" came out in 2007 now have the chance to relive those glory days of midnight release parties. And while physical bookstores are no doubt scrambling to set up such events, sadly, Rowling herself is not slated to make any appearances herself, according to her publisher, Little, Brown. But the author heard fans loud and clear when the play was announced, and according to The Guardian, took great pains to make sure audiences the world over would be able to enjoy "The Cursed Child," regardless of geography. "David Shelley, chief executive of Little, Brown, said on Wednesday that Rowling and her team had received many requests from fans who cannot see the play to publish it in book form," the paper reports. "We are absolutely delighted to be able to make it available for them," Shelley told The Guardian. We're delighted, too. Accio summer! 'Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice' Final Trailer Kicks Major Ass Posted: The final trailer for "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" puts the spotlight on the Caped Crusader, as he starts things off by taking down a bunch of bad guys in a single bound -- though really, it's Clark Kent's alter ego who's in his sights. Wonder Woman Is Deadpool's Widow in First 'Criminal' Trailer Posted: The main star of "Criminal" seems to be Kevin Costner as a convict with "no impulse control" and "a totally lack of empathy" for anyone, but the first trailer also shows what the daughter of Deadpool and Wonder Woman might look like. 'Cause you know you were wondering. Costner's criminal gets an implant in his head containing the memories and skills of a dead CIA intelligence officer. That dead agent is played by Ryan Reynolds. The dead agent's wife is played by Gal Gadot. Gary Oldman and Tommy Lee Jones appear in the trailer as government bigshots of some kind -- bad guys? -- who want the information that is now in Costner's head. The trailer shows us that the events of the film give Costner's criminal the sense of empathy he previously lacked, including a connection to the widow and daughter left behind. If the plot sounds a little bit like the other recent Ryan Reynolds movie, "Self/less," well, maybe/maybe not. Besides, this one has Commissioner Gordon and Wonder Woman, who actually gets to speak in the new/final "Batman v Superman" trailer. Anyway, watch the trailer and judge for yourself: Want more stuff like this? Like us on Facebook. This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
13 Comedy Movie Sequels That Don't Suck Posted: The only movie harder to get right than the original is the sequel. Especially if that sequel is to a comedy. A truly good sequel to a funny movie -- whether live-action or animated -- is a rare, if not endangered, species in Hollywood. For every "22 Jump Street" or "Toy Story 3," there's a "City Slickers II" (cringe) or "The Hangover: Part III" (double cringe). "Zoolander No. 2" is the latest film that will either live or die on the altar of new installments. In honor of all the Blue Steel impressions your friends will be making this weekend, here are 13 sequels that managed to pull off the tricky feat of not sucking. Watch Iron Boy's Wish Come True, Thanks to Robert Downey Jr. Posted: Brace yourself for an attack of the warm-and-fuzzies. A 9-year-old Australian boy named Domenic Pace, who has cystic fibrosis, has always dreamed of being a superhero, and -- like most of us -- he loves Robert Downey Jr.'s Iron Man. Domenic's wish through the Make-a-Wish Foundation was to become the superhero Iron Boy. After almost a year of planning, his wish was granted. "Iron Boy" just took down Ultron at Sydney, Australia's iconic Sydney Opera House, got a medal of gallantry from police, and was even helicoptered to Police HQ -- all while wearing his own special suit. There are photos of the event all over Twitter, with fans thanking Iron Boy for saving Sydney. It's so sweet to see how people turned out to support Dom, even waving "We Love Iron Boy" signs. Robert Downey Jr. was a big part of making this happen; he tweeted about the "mission" for young Iron Boy, and even made a video of Tony Stark declaring Dominic an honorary member of the Avengers. Check it out:
Isn't that wonderful? Long live Iron Boy -- and Iron Man! Want more stuff like this? Like us on Facebook. This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
Watch 'Jimmy Kimmel' Audience React to NC-17-Worthy 'Brothers Grimsby' Scene Posted: What a tease! Sacha Baron Cohen actually showed up as himself, not a character, last night on "Jimmy Kimmel Live" to promote his new movie, "The Brothers Grimsby." While there, he showed off a scene that almost got the film an NC-17 rating. However, Jimmy said it was too graphic to air on network TV, so ABC instead showed the clip to the studio audience and we got to see their reactions. Based on those reactions, the clip is 1) very funny and 2) very wrong. You can hear an elephant in the background, so use your imagination in how that may be involved. It's certainly an interesting way to promote a clip and may actually make people more curious to see the movie than they would be if they got to see the full scene. It's kind of like Quentin Tarantino not showing that scene in "Reservoir Dogs." Our imaginations elevate it to an even more gruesome level when we just hear what's happening. Here's the "Jimmy Kimmel Live" clip: "The Brothers Grimsby" is scheduled to open March 11. Want more stuff like this? Like us on Facebook. Rebel Wilson Facts: 9 Things You (Probably) Don't Know About the 'How to Be Single' Star Posted: Rebel Wilson brought the laughs in movies like "Pitch Perfect" and "Bridesmaids." Now, she's ready to do it again with her new flick "How to Be Single." But, before heading to the movies this weekend, why not get to know our favorite funny Australian? From her big health scare to how she mastered the American accent, here are nine things you might not know about Rebel Wilson. This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
Jimmy Fallon or Larry David: Whose Bernie Sanders Impression Wins? Posted: "The Tonight Show" host Jimmy Fallon has gotten a lot of mileage out of his spot-on Donald Trump impression, but he just broke out his best Sen. Bernie Sanders for a fake New Hampshire victory speech -- complete with references to Red Lobster, and Hillary Clinton as "She Who Must Not Be Named": Of course, Larry David has already put his stamp on Bernie Sanders for "Saturday Night Live," and Sanders even showed up on SNL last weekend alongside his impersonator. (Hillary Clinton did something similar earlier this SNL season, for a sketch with Kate McKinnon. And SNL's two past and present Hillary impersonators, Amy Poehler and McKinnon, did a sketch together. SNL is still trying to get a handle on Ted Cruz, with Taran Killam going for a pretty brutal impression this past weekend in the Cold Open.) Here's a video of Larry David as Sanders, from one of SNL's debate sketches: Since Bernie is clearly in this race for the long haul, fans should get used to seeing impressions of him almost as often as impressions of Trump. (Trump is irresistible, even to Johnny Depp.) So who does the best Bernie? Want more stuff like this? Like us on Facebook. This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
Tense 'House of Cards' Season 4 Trailer Teases Frank vs Claire Horror Posted: In the battle of President Frank Underwood (Kevin Spacey) and First Lady Claire Underwood (Robin Wright) the clear winner is the "House of Cards" audience. Have you seen the 1989 movie "The War of the Roses"? Based on the official "House of Cards" Season 4 trailer, it looks like a more strategic, violent, and high-stakes version is headed our way this season. Season 3 ended with Claire finally walking out on Frank, and oh man is he pissed. The music and imagery in the trailer are so tense this could easily be a horror film. Claire: "I saw a future. Our future." Frank: "We had a future until you started destroying it." Yep, Mom and Dad are fighting -- and it's awesome! They don't call this show "House of Cards" for nothing. It took three seasons for the Underwoods to get to the White House and now the house is starting to collapse from greed, ambition, and resentment. Frank is always at his best when he and Claire are on the same side, but Claire is sick of being his Lady Macbeth. She wants to be Macbeth. Frank took for granted that he could keep using her for his own gain, not quite appreciating that -- at this point, with her current popularity as he campaigns for president -- he needs her more than she needs him. She is now in a position of power and she is playing her own aces while she has them. But will she play her cards right, and what happens when it's all on the table? The Underwoods can do more damage to each other than any outsider ever could, so if they start turning on each other it is *WIN* for us. However, the trailer shows more than just Frank and Claire. We see many returning faces, a lot more mayhem, and some of the new characters headed our way. "House of Cards" drops March 4 on Netflix and you really should catch up on the first three seasons before binge-ing this one. [knock knock] Want more stuff like this? Like us on Facebook. The 22 Best Chick Flicks on Netflix Right Now Posted: So, not every "chick" likes "chick flicks." But if you want to see movies about women bonding, singing their hearts out and experiencing the heartbreak of being the only one dressed in a Playboy bunny costume at a party, then this list is for you. From classic tear-jerkers to swoon-inducing period romances, to funny modern classics like "Clueless," here are 22 movies you need to watch now on Netflix. 'Gilmore Girls' Revival Adds Jess, Dean, and First New Face Posted: "Gilmore Girls" officially has Rory's Boys. Netflix's four-episode revival/continuation will feature most of the original cast, including both Milo Ventimiglia as Jess and Jared Padelecki as Dean. That's in addition to the previously announced Matt Czuchry as Logan, so it sounds like Rory (Alexis Bledel) will reunite with all three of her best guys. Milo shared the scoop of his inclusion with this script photo:
TVLine posted the news of the "Supernatural" star's return as Dean. TVLine also shared the news about the first new face joining the revival: Sutton Foster. They speculated that she might be playing her own "Bunheads" character, since Amy Sherman-Palladino led that show too, but that might just be wishful thinking. As they noted, Kelly Bishop had roles on both shows, which could make it awkward if Sutton is meant to play her "Bunheads" character, Michelle. We'll have to see. Check out the gallery below for the rest of the scoop on this exciting revival. Want more stuff like this? Like us on Facebook. This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
5 Things You Need to Know Before You See 'Deadpool' Posted: This year's crop of superhero movies kicks off early with "Deadpool." This latest addition to Fox's X-Men franchise puts the spotlight on the weirdest and most irreverent hero in the Marvel Universe. Plenty of Marvel movies have delivered laughs, but none have done it Deadpool-style. To help you prepare for this highly-anticipated, completely inappropriate superhero film, here are five things you need to know before you see the Merc With the Mouth in action. 'The Walking Dead': 5 Things You Need to Know About the Big Bad Negan Posted: [SPOILERS: Seriously, don't read if you're not caught up on the show or the comic.] "The Walking Dead" is set to kick off the second half of its sixth season this month. The biggest twist to this ongoing saga of survival is that a major new villain will soon make his debut: Negan. Jeffrey Dean Morgan plays the Big Bad, a charismatic psychopath who speaks loudly and carries a big stick -- a guy who makes the zombies Rick and friends have faced seem like a golden age. Fans of the "Walking Dead" comic know Negan well by now, as he's been at the forefront of the series for several years. But for those who only watch the TV version, here are five important things to know about the guy before he makes his live-action debut. [WARNING: Again, there be spoilers here! Turn back now. Still here? Okay, but you've been warned.] 1. He's Not a Very Nice Guy Negan is easily one of the most violent and sadistic characters in the world of "The Walking Dead." He'll murder innocent bystanders without a second thought and smile the entire time. He rarely seems able to speak more than a few words without throwing in an F-bomb (which AMC's censors just love). Some villains are conflicted about doing bad things to good people. Negan relishes the opportunity. The only thing this remorseless killer seems to care about is his trusty barbed wire-coated baseball bat, which he's affectionately named "Lucille." 2. He Is Kind of a Big Deal Negan isn't just a lone killer wandering the post-apocalyptic landscape. He has his own base of operations and a group of followers that call themselves "The Saviors." Like the Mafia, the Saviors survive by intimidating nearby settlements into paying tributes of food and supplies. For all his wanton bloodlust, Negan does seem to have some sense of loyalty and attachment to his minions. Whether through fanatical devotion or fear, they follow his every order without question. 3. He Kills a Major Character With his 2012 debut in issue 100 of "Walking Dead," Negan made quite the splash -- with Glenn's head. He beat Glenn to death with Lucille, thereby killing off one of the series' longest running main players. One of the big questions surround the remainder of "The Walking Dead" Season 6 is whether Glenn will meet a similar fate. Glenn already had a close brush with death in the first half of Season 6. Even if he survives in this version, it's probably safe to assume some major character will be sacrificed at the altar of Negan. 4. A War Is Coming After Negan's bloody debut, the "Walking Dead" comic eventually built towards a massive, 12-part storyline called "All Out War." There, Rick united the citizens of three different settlements in open war against Negan and the Saviors. It was a terrible conflict that resulted in many deaths and ushered in a completely new status quo for the series in the aftermath. Will the series follow a similar path? Fans hope so. 5. He's a Bad Influence on Our Heroes Part of Negan's appeal is that he's oddly charismatic, despite being a big fan of murder. His magnetic personality is partly the reason why he was able to rise to leader of his own settlement, and it also has an effect on both Rick and Carl in the comic. Both have struggled to maintain their humanity while feeling the pressure to handle problems in the Negan way, and Rick and our heroes may face similar struggles when Negan applies pressure on Sunday's premiere. The 'Hardcore Henry' Trailer Is Unlike Anything You've Ever Seen Posted: Plenty of video games are now shot like movies, so why shouldn't movies be shot like video games? In the new trailer for the action thriller "Hardcore Henry," it doesn't take long to realize we are seeing the world as Henry, experiencing the action from a first-person POV as he wakes up in some kind of futuristic science facility and is swept up in a mysterious adventure. Henry may not remember how he got into this mess, but it can't suck to suddenly realize you're married to a beautiful Jennifer Lawrence lookalike, and you're now some kind of cybernetic Bourne/Bond/Deadpool super soldier. And apparently you know Tim Roth? We saw you in there, man. In the trailer, we hear Sharlto Copley's Jimmy tell Henry, "The good news is that you're gonna live a while. The bad news is there's an army standing between you and your wife. So let's go get 'em." Cue Queen's "Don't Stop Me Now," 'cause if you're gonna be a supersonic man who blows stuff up, you should have a decent theme song. "Hardcore Henry" had a strong debut at the 2015 Toronto Film Festival, when it was just called "Hardcore," and reportedly launched a bidding war between three studios. STX is releasing the film nationwide on April 8th. Want more stuff like this? Like us on Facebook. This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
