'Blade Runner 2' Gets 2018 Release Date (and Possible Oscar Campaign) Posted: It's been more than 30 years since Ridley Scott's sci-fi flick "Blade Runner" first hit theaters, and at long last, a sequel is set to begin production later this year. Now, that long-awaited follow-up has an official release date, though its location on the Hollywood calendar has provoked some head scratching. Here's what we can say for certain so far: Studio Warner Bros. has announced January 12, 2018 as the release date for "Blade Runner 2," which will be overseen by original director Ridley Scott, and toplined by returning star Harrison Ford and new addition Ryan Gosling. Throw in original co-writer Hampton Fancher, back to co-write the sequel script, and director Denis Villeneuve, hot off critical darlings "Prisoners" and "Sicario," and you have quite the impressive pedigree for a project some three decades in the making. That pedigree is precisely why so many industry watchers are confused about the aforementioned release date, though. It's long been known that January is considered a dumping ground for less-than-stellar Hollywood projects. But with its high nostalgia factor, talented crew, and big-name cast, "Blade Runner 2" doesn't exactly appear to be one of them. So why the apparent banishment to January? As Collider speculates, that day could actually be the wide release date, with a limited December 2017 run -- just in time for Oscar eligibility -- planned out later for awards-seeking purposes. It's the same strategy that Warner Bros. took with "American Sniper," which wound up with a bunch of Oscar nominations (not to mention other awards season love), and a huge box office haul, too; WB may be hoping to recreate that success with "Blade Runner 2." Whatever the reasoning, fans of the original are no doubt thrilled that this flick is happening at all, and has a real, tangible release in sight. Production on "Blade Runner 2" begins this summer. Perhaps an Oscar campaign will follow? [via: Collider] Photo credit: ASSOCIATED PRESS This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
Fans Launch Petition for Deadpool to Host 'SNL' Posted: In its 41 seasons, "Saturday Night Live" has seen everyone from actors and comedians, to musicians and athletes, to models and politicians host the sketch comedy series. But a group of "Deadpool" fans are now petitioning the show to do something it's never done before: Invite a superhero to host, in character. That's the hope of more than 30,000 fans (and counting), who've signed a Change.org petition addressed to "SNL," head honcho Lorne Michaels, NBC, and "Deadpool" star Ryan Reynolds, asking for the show to consider tapping Deadpool -- and not simply just Reynolds -- to host the show in its entirety as the Merc with a Mouth. "How would this not be hilarious having Deadpool in sketches, breaking the 4th wall, and inserting some of his brand of humor (obviously toned down a bit for network television)!?!?!" states the petition, penned by a punctuation-loving "Deadpool" fan named Andrew Stege from Matteson, IL. Stege, who admits he hasn't watched a full episode of the sketch comedy series in years (probably not ingratiating yourself to Michaels with that statement, dude), suggests even having Deadpool join the episode's musical guest for some "interpretive dancing." "There's unlimited possibilities!!!" Stege's petition exclaims. Considering the flick's record-breaking box office performance, having the character host the show would certainly be an easy way for "SNL" to grab viewers (and headlines). Then again, we doubt "SNL" would be open to essentially turning itself into an episode-long advertisement for one movie. We'll have to wait and see how this shakes out, though based on the petition's performance so far, it looks like the show will have to respond in one way or another soon. Here's the List of Oscars 2016 Presenters (So Far) Posted: ABC just added five more names to the list of presenters for the Sunday, February 28 Academy Awards: Oscar winners Morgan Freeman and John Legend, plus J.J. Abrams, Sacha Baron Cohen, and Henry Cavill. It's no surprise to see them lead with Freeman and Legend, and not just because they are past winners. Oscar producers are going out of their way to not only add more non-white presenters in reaction to #OscarsSoWhite, but to make sure we know they're doing it. Anyway, this list of Oscar presenters may be updated with still more names before next Sunday's show, but here's the current lineup: J.J. Abrams Patricia Arquette Abraham Attah Cate Blanchett Emily Blunt Louis C.K. Steve Carell Henry Cavill Priyanka Chopra Sacha Baron Cohen Common Russell Crowe Benicio del Toro Chris Evans Tina Fey Morgan Freeman Jennifer Garner Whoopi Goldberg Ryan Gosling Louis Gossett, Jr. Kevin Hart Quincy Jones Michael B. 'The Walking Dead' Still Slays TV Ratings, Even on Valentine's Day Posted: What did TV fans really want for Valentine's Day in 2016? Daryl Dixon blowing sh-t up on "The Walking Dead." 'Cause it's not fun and games UNTIL someone loses an eye! "The Walking Dead" series launched on Halloween, but it had never aired on Valentine's Day until this past weekend's Season 6, Episode 9. That wasn't just any episode, it was the midseason return after a two-month break. And it aired opposite a romantic "Bachelor" special, plus a "Tonight Show" special, the NBA All-Star game, the debut of HBO's "Vinyl," and even the premiere of "Frozen" on the Disney channel. In terms of viewers, Episode 9, "No Way Out," averaged 13.7 million viewers and a 6.8 rating in the 18-49 demo. That's great. It was Sunday's most-viewed program by a lot. However, it was not as high as the past two seasons of Episode 9s, which brought in over 15 million viewers. And it didn't quite surpass the Season 6, Episode 8 midseason finale, which had a slightly higher overall viewer tally of 13.98 million and a 7.0 rating. But it's surprising to see these 2016 numbers interpreted by some as "down" in the ratings, as if TWD is slipping. Episode 9 was awesome, far superior to Episode 8, but that's not the kind of thing viewers know before they tune in to watch the episode. So maybe after the meh midseason finale, some folks felt less must-see-RIGHT-NOW abut Episode 9. But the buzz about "No Way Out" has been strong enough that this episode will only grow over time. Variety was kind of a Debbie Downer about TWD's latest ratings, but they still had to concede that "Even at this same-day demo level ... Sunday's hour of 'Dead' out-rates every episode this season of top broadcast scripted series 'Empire' and 'The Big Bang Theory.'" And, they added, "Following 'The Walking Dead,' the season premiere of 'Talking Dead' had a very strong showing (3.1 rating in 18-49, 6.44 million viewers overall), outdrawing all eight episodes from last fall." Even AMC's "Walking Dead" marathon episodes, aka reruns, ended up high on the February 14 cable ratings. So TWD is still slaying, even on a night when society loves to shame us into believing we're failing if we don't leave the house for a date with someone special. We just did that at home this year with Daryl, Michonne, and company. But based on whispers about this Sunday's Episode 10, that may have been an even better choice for Valentine's Day... Did you watch TWD "live" this past Sunday, record it for later, or skip it completely? Want more stuff like this? Like us on Facebook. Chris Evans Insists 'Captain America: Civil War' Is Not Another 'Avengers' Movie Posted: Based on the trailers, you might think "Captain America: Civil War" is really just "The Avengers: Civil War." The preview footage looks awesome, but it has focused so much on Team Cap vs Team Tony that it looks like this is a movie about the Avengers in marital counseling, not a solo film for Steve Rogers. Chris Evans addressed the Avengers question with Disney's twenty-three magazine. "Even though there are a lot characters, the focus is on Steve and his struggle. Especially his struggle with Tony Stark," Chris said (via Yahoo Movies). "It's exciting to see a guy who's as optimistic and as selfless as Steve be met with letdown, betrayal, frustration, and selfishness. There are events and people in his life that test him — that challenge him and force him to reevaluate who he is and what he wants out of life." Sounds like we'll be seeing some intriguing new layers to Cap, which is good, since even Captain America can't always be flawless. Marvel's Kevin Feige told the Disney magazine there have been breadcrumbs in the past films leading to this showdown between Steve and Tony Stark. "We've seen it coming," he said. The clues were there. When you watch the other films you see how Captain America and Iron Man fight the bad guys together, back-to-back, but they have differences. And there is something that happens in the world that divides them." Co-director Joe Russo added that the twists and turns in "Civil War" are character-based, as opposed to the plot-based twists of "Winter Soldier." The Russos previously said "Civil War" is like "a psychological thriller," but a good portion of the movie is "funnier than Winter Soldier." So they are trying hard to make any comparisons be to "Winter Soldier," rather than past "Avengers" films. Still ... even Spider-Man will be in "Civil War," so is it really about Steve? "Captain America" will be released May 6, 2016. Want more stuff like this? Like us on Facebook. This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |

Deadpool Helps Katie Holmes Reveal the Best Kisser on 'Dawson's Creek' Posted: Someone needs to cast Katie Holmes and Ryan Reynolds in something, because they just work together. Last week, she kicked his butt at Musical Beers on "The Tonight Show." Wednesday night, they were both on "The Late Late Show." When Katie Holmes tried to dodge a question on "Dawson's Creek" kissers, the "Deadpool" star stepped in to save her by offering his own answer. First, James Corden asked Katie about her first on-screen kiss. Here's her answer:
However, she said that particular kiss was good. James then wanted to know the BEST kisser on "Dawson's Creek" -- James Van Der Beek's Dawson or Joshua Jackson's Pacey. Katie said she couldn't answer Pacey vs. Dawson, and wanted to know what James thought. James said it would be The Beek, "Because I would get straight up in his grill." On that note, Ryan Reynolds jumped in to say, "I went to high school with Josh, and I can tell you right now, he's a terrific kisser." James asked Katie if that's true. She laughed and said, "If he [Ryan] says so, you know..." James accepted that answer as canon, so it's official: Pacey > Dawson. And since Katie did date Josh in real life, it's probably what she wanted to say. Want more stuff like this? Like us on Facebook. This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
Watch Ryan Reynolds Demonstrate How He Works Out 'Like a British Person' Posted: With the massive success of "Deadpool," Ryan Reynolds is officially The Man in capital letters, but he's not even done promoting the movie. He was on "The Late Late Show" Wednesday night, and James Corden -- who fanboyed over RR like a pro -- asked about the six months Ryan trained to get into shape for "Deadpool." Ryan had previously said he "worked out like a British person," and as a British person, James wanted to know what the heck that meant. So Ryan explained, "No, no, no. For the movie I tried to train like one-tenth of what Hugh Jackman does. But in my normal life, yeah, I train a little bit like a British person. I've been to one British gym and everyone's sort of doing this, if I may..." He demonstrated three lunges with raised arms. James said that's absolutely right, that's what British people do at gyms. Ryan: "And then they just go home. Three or four and then they're done." Watch him in non-action: So when he's not training for "Deadpool" he's basically not working out much at all. He's still doing a lot more than some of us, who work out by stepping away from the desk long enough to go to the kitchen for more junk food, but this "British person move" looks easy enough for us to try two or three a day. Thanks for the inspiration, Deadpool! Want more stuff like this? Like us on Facebook. This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
20 TV Shows You Say You'll Watch (But Never Do) Posted: Your friends are always telling you that you have to watch "House of Cards," "The Wire," "The Americans," or another critically-acclaimed show you haven't seen. Did Judge Julianne Hough Quit 'Dancing With the Stars' for Now or for Good? Posted: The middle seat at the "Dancing With the Stars" judges's panel is getting another shake-up. Julianne Hough, fresh off her successful run as Sandy in "Grease: Live," announced that she's not returning to judge the DWTS Spring 2016 season, which premieres March 21 on ABC. Instead, head judge Len Goodman will return to his seat between Carrie Ann Inaba and Bruno Tonioli. (Woo hoo!) It's not unexpected to see Len return -- he loves DWTS, he just hates judging both "Strictly Come Dancing" and DWTS in the fall, since it requires commuting back and forth from London to L.A. every week. "Strictly" doesn't air in the spring, so he can stay in L.A. for the duration. But what does this mean for Julianne? It sounds like her acting/performing career is heating up, and she may focus on that for a while. Here's what she and DWTS showrunner Rob Wade told People:

'Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2' Starts Filming, Read Marvel's New Scoop Posted: It's time to get hooked on a new feeling -- the "Guardians" band is back together! Yesterday, Marvel Studios announced the start of principal photography for "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2," which has a release date of May 5, 2017. By the way, James Gunn also ranted about Hollywood misunderstanding the lessons of "Deadpool," so read his blast on that, if you haven't already. The guy is passionate, and he previously lashed out at rumors floating around about Peter Quill's father. Back in November, Vin Diesel gushed about the Vol. 2 script, which he had just received along with a CD called "Awesome Mix Vol. 2":
