'Pretty Little Liars' Season 6 Episode 17 Recap: Emily Finds the Murder Weapon

Posted:

Ok, first of all the new A (sorry 👹) clearly has a mask fetish because he cannot stop giving himself silicone face lifts and trolling around Rosewood. His latest disguise? A creepy maid at the Rosewood Hotel, who seems to have closed off the hole to Sarah Harvey's lair. Oh, and if you're wondering whether or not the liars are one step closer to finding him, the answer is hahaha, no. Probably because they're too busy getting almost-murdered and reverse-plagiarizing entire novels. Keep reading to find out what happened this week on "Pretty Little Liars," but here's a hint: a whole lot of sketchy drama.

In Which Aria Writes Ezra's Book and He's Just All ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Lest you forget due to passing out from too many LOLs, Aria decided to secretly write Ezra's book for him, which is highly awkward (and maybe illegal?) because Ezra also wrote his own book. The insane part of this new development is that when Aria finally admits the truth, Ezra's just like "no bigs!" and tells Aria what a great writer she is. What. Is. Happening.

P.S. Aria's boyfriend finally finds out about her past with Ezra, and we're happy to report he seems appropriately horrified that she used to date her teacher. That said, they're still together, so maybe not horrified enough.

In Which A Comes Between Spencer and Ezra, Ship Haleb Sighs with Relief

Quick update on Mrs. Hastings health for those who have been worried. 1) Caleb uses his #HackingSkills to corrupt her medical file so the opposition can't use it against her. Yay! 2) Spencer confronts her mom about keeping her cancer diagnosis a secret, and they have a bonding moment. Double yay! And 3) Spencer convinces her mom to come clean to the voters (by which we mean the 10 people inhabiting Rosewood). Triple Yay!

But wait, there's a secret number 4) The opposition claims Spencer's campaign leaked medical regarding Toby's girlfriend and a secret abortion, and Caleb takes the blame. This means that Caleb has to move out of Spencer's barn, and lord knows where he'll end up. Maybe he'll move back into the Rosewood High ceilings? Just a suggestion.

In Which Aria Becomes a Minister, Marries a Million People

You know when your divorced parents decide to get re-married and then ask you, their traumatized daughter, to officiate the wedding? Aria is right there with you. As if this poor girl hasn't been through enough, her parents force her to make them man and wife. And then post-wedding, Alison and her weird boyfriend show up and ask Aria to marry them. It's like, guys. Calm down, take a breath, and find someone to officiate your nuptials who isn't a murderer.

In Which Emily Almost Gets Killed...Again

Here's the good news: Emily reapplies to school now that she has money from selling her eggs, and she makes friends with an earnest hipster named Damien. Here's the bad news: Hipster Damien is actually a journalist who wants to report on the liars. Here's the worse news: A seems to have fertilized Emily's eggs and she might be a mom soon. And here's the completely insane news: Emily almost gets run over by a car while sleuthing for A clues — but hey, at least she finds the murder weapon hiding on the roof of a closed diner! The question? Who put it there?

VH1 Rescues 'America's Next Top Model' From Cancellation

Posted:

America's Next Top Model"America's Next Top Model" is the latest show to be saved from cancellation hell. VH1 is picking up the reality series, which was axed by The CW after 22 seasons.

"Top Model" will return for a 14-episode new season, but for the first time, without host Tyra Banks. She will stay on as an executive producer alongside Ken Mok, who runs the show. VH1 said they wanted "Top Model" to be "reinvented for a new generation."

"After creating an incredible, global brand, I am beyond excited to have the show reborn," Banks said in a statement. "I will continue as Executive Producer, but must turn my attention to new business endeavors, so I want to find a new host. I'm pumped to identify that person and bring back the show. Top Model fans, you demanded that the show come back, and VH1 answered the call. Get ready for a fierce-a-fied rebirth!"

"Top Model" debuted in 2003 on the now defunct UPN, then moved to the nascent CW. It was the longest running on that network when it was canceled. The series has spun off versions in more than 30 countries, and appeals to young viewers 18-34, which is VH1's core audience.

Oscar Predictions 2016: Who Will Win Best Actor?

Posted:

The 2016 Oscars are are almost here, which means it's time to firm up those predictions and get your ballot all ready to go.

This week, leading up to film's biggest night of the year, Moviefone's editors are revealing our predictions in the ceremony's biggest categories. We've already given you our picks for Best Actress. Now it's time for Best Actor. The nominees are:

Bryan Cranston, "Trumbo"
Matt Damon, "The Martian"
Leonardo DiCaprio, "The Revenant"
Michael Fassbender, "Steve Jobs"
Eddie Redmayne, "The Danish Girl"

Here, we've filled you in on who we think will win, as well as who we feel truly deserves to take home that coveted golden statue.

Tim Hayne
Who Will Win: Leonardo DiCaprio for "The Revenant." Please, won't someone give Leo the Oscar before he kills himself for a role?! DiCaprio is one of the most talented actors working today, and he's been passed over for multiple Oscar-worthy performances in the past ("The Aviator" and "Wolf of Wall Street" come to mind), so this is his year. Like his Best Actress counterpart Brie Larson, he's already won the Golden Globe, SAG Award, and BAFTA for his role in "The Revenant," so if the Academy decides to pass him up for Michael Fassbender or Matt Damon, it'll be a jaw-dropper.

Who Should Win: Leonardo DiCaprio. For his health, and for the hopes of a nation rooting for him to win.

Phil Pirrello
Who Will Win: Leonardo DiCaprio.

Who Should Win: Matt Damon. "The Revenant" star is practically a lock to get his first Oscar, which is more of a "he's-put-the-time-in" award — which the Academy loves to do, to make up for previous oversights like "Wolf of Wall Street" or "The Aviator." But I need convincing that one should win an award because they grunted through the cold a lot. And braving harsh conditions and how "hard" it was has been the throughline of the actor's campaign, which seems to be winning over voters if early awards wins are an indication. Damon's performance as the most likable astronaut ever made is arguably career-best level work; any other year, he'd likely take home the Oscar.

Rachel Horner
Who Should Win: Leonardo DiCaprio. Just give him a freaking Oscar already. The competition isn't that impressive and if he doesn't win, everyone is going to be more mad at the Academy than they already are.

Who Will Win: Honestly, I haven't a clue who is going to take it home. There isn't a front runner in my mind, so I'm going to let my optimism come in to play here (which is probably a mistake) and say Leo is finally going to take it home. If not, probably Matt Damon.

Alana Altmann
Who Will Win: Leonardo DiCaprio. Panting heavily through the snow is hard you work, you guys. We kid. We kid. His performance was not only the best of the lot, it looked like the most physically exhausting and emotionally demanding. We're tired just thinking about it.

Who Should Win: Leo. (But let's pretend it's for "What's Eating Gilbert Grape" or "The Wolf of Wall Street.) It's his time.

'Xena' Reboot Will Be More Serialized With Less Skimpy Costumes

Posted:

XenaThe reboot of "Xena: Warrior Princess" aims to bring the show into the 21st century.

In an interview with io9, the reboot's showrunner, "Lost" alum Javier Grillo-Marxuach, discussed his vision of the show, which might not align with that of fans of the original series.

Here are some choice quotes about the reboot. For instance, it will be more serialized, with fewer one-off "adventures of the week":

One big thing is that we are telling a much more serialized story than the show ever tackled — so formally we are already treading some very different ground — and while the characters will occupy roughly the same thematic spaces they did in the original, some of their backstories will be changed, and some of their morality will be tweaked so that we can tell a long-arcing story in which every episode leads directly into the next ... one of the things I really insisted on in my pitch was telling an epic story that would be bingeable ....

Those skimpy outfits might get a "Game of Thrones"-style update:

... a great deal of the appeal of the show lies in certain pulpy elements—like Gabrielle's bare midriff, Xena's leather miniskirt, Callisto's amazing and gravity-defying... well, you get it—and it's hard for me in the post-Brienne of Tarth era to reconcile with the idea that Xena and her friends can meet every challenge in such skimpy outfits. I think we are going to have some very lengthy discussions about how to bring those elements into the present day without missing the boat on what makes Xena exactly what she is; and how to have our cake and eat it too.

And he explains why Lucy Lawless and Renee O'Connor will not be playing Xena and Gabrielle again:

That already has a lot of people in an uproar. The question of reboot vs. revival is a very relevant now that The X-Files has been revived with the original cast, and so has Star Wars... and because the die hard fans want to see their beloved actors in the role. And look, I love these actors in these roles as much as I love Shatner as Kirk, Connery as Bond, and Lynda Carter as Diana Prince—so why does this need to be a reboot and not a continuation? The answer for me is that the reboot is not a repudiation of the classic show, but rather a compliment to it. I want for Xena to be a cultural icon for longer than my tenure in the entertainment industry, or that of anyone else involved with the project.

Read the full interview for more of Grillo-Marxuach's thoughts on the Xena mythology, the show's central relationship, and villains.

Will There Be More 'X-Files' After That Insane Finale Cliffhanger?

Posted:

X-FilesThe truth is still out there — but will "X-Files" fans ever find it?

Fox's six-episode revival of the sci-fi series ended on a tremendous cliffhanger, begging the question of whether the show will go on. The answer: It might.

"There's no negotiations, but I had a conversation with [Fox president] Dana Walden today," Carter told E! News. "They said they're certainly up for more if we can figure out how to get it done."

The revival has been a ratings success, but booking stars Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny might prove difficult. Though they've both expressed interest in continuing on, as Carter told The Hollywood Reporter, "The last negotiations took about five months, so it could be a while before we figure out how to do this."

The finale ended — MASSIVE SPOILERS AHEAD — with Mulder dying, Scully racing to save him and the rest of the world, and a UFO showing up over Washington, D.C. in the last shot. Carter assures fans that he knows what happens next.

"'The X-Files' traditionally ended with a cliffhanger, and we didn't want to do anything different," he said. "This just happens to be a very big cliffhanger. I have an idea of where the story goes."

Posted:

'Eddie the Eagle' - Hugh Jackman, Taron Egerton Interview
Hugh Jackman and Taron Egerton have seen their fair share of action -- Jackman is Wolverine for crying out loud! But when it came to film scenes for "Eddie the Eagle," both of them were very thankful for stunt doubles. We got the chance to sit down with the dynamic duo and ask them a question or two about death-defying stunts, the "no-skiing allowed" rule for actors, and more.

First 'Justice League' Teaser Pic Gives a Glimpse at Aquaman, The Flash Costumes

Posted:

Justice LeagueNot long after Warner Bros. announced that "Justice League: Part One" would start filming in April, director Zack Snyder released a behind-the-scenes teaser photo from Leavesden studios in London, where he is presumably in pre-production.

The pic shows Snyder posing with former "Game of Thrones" star Jason Momoa, who will play Aquaman:
If you squint hard enough and examine the background of the image, you can see a little bit of the movie's costumes, including what appears to be the outfit for The Flash (to be played by Ezra Miller). It's dark red, with the familiar lightning bolts on the head piece.

Next to that, there's the armor for Aquaman (with the tell-tale A on the belt), but even more interesting is the artwork for what looks to be his wife Mera's costume.

"Justice League: Part One" teams up Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, and The Flash, as well as some other superheroes. It's slated for release Nov. 17, 2017.

Oscars 2016: The 10 Best Reasons to Watch This Year

Posted:

Well, it's that time of year again: time for the pomp, pageantry, and prognostication of the Academy Awards.

Chris Rock returns to host one of the most nail-biting Oscars in years, given that the Best Picture category has yet to produce a bonafide frontrunner. The biggest stars, both in front of and behind the camera, will also be on hand to (hopefully) make some meme-worthy television to chat about come Monday morning.

But if it seems like the same old, same old, it's not – there are still plenty of reasons to watch this year's show. In fact, we've got ten right here.

17 Best Picture Winners That Don't Really Hold Up

Posted:

The 2015 awards season is reaching its pinnacle as the 88th Academy Awards draw near. But while the Oscars are generally regarded as the final word in what's good in film, not every Oscar selection truly stands the test of time.

It's hard not to look back at past years and wonder what exactly the Academy were thinking when they failed to honor such enduring classics as "Citizen Kane," "Raging Bull," or "Pulp Fiction."

In preparation for this year's Oscars, we're looking back at 17 Best Picture winners that don't necessarily stand the test of time -- or maybe just didn't deserve the honor over some of their peers.
