The Geek Beat: 'Deadpool,' Finn's Jacket and More Stuff To Look For In February Posted: 03 Feb 2016 09:00 PM PST Last year is barely in the rearview mirror and things are already starting to heat up in 2016. This month's highlights include one of Hollywood's most anticipated superhero movies, as well as some reading material that will go a long way toward getting you prepped for the next phase of the Marvel movie-verse. Here are ten things to look for throughout the month of February: Deadpool Marvel's mouthy mutant mercenary is finally getting his own big-screen adventure, and even though it's exciting to see Reynolds suit up as Wade Wilson on February 12, it's kind of sad that the premiere is just around the corner. The promotional campaign for Deadpool has provided some of the most entertaining movie marketing in years, and done a great job of channeling... The Coen Brothers Want to Make a Sequel to This Movie Posted: 03 Feb 2016 07:30 PM PST Writer-directors Joel and Ethan Coen are not in the business of making sequels, as much as their fans (and Tara Reid) would love to see the continuing adventures of The Dude in a Big Lebowski follow-up. Their films are so immensely colorful when it comes to their typically large ensembles that it's impossible not to want to see more from any one character. For instance, in their latest, Hail, Caesar!, you could spin off an entire movie about Tilda Swinton's twin gossip columnists or Scarlett Johansson's deviously seductive starlet. Sure, you can do this, but what's always great about a Coen brothers movie is that they give you just enough of a character to make them memorable and leave you satisfied with the time you've spent with them. The Coen boys are... Read More This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
Watch Channing Tatum's Singing Sailor in a Musical Scene From 'Hail, Caesar!' Posted: 03 Feb 2016 06:00 PM PST Channing Tatum makes his Coen Brothers debut in the new comedy Hail, Caesar!, and hopefully it's not his last collaboration with the filmmakers. Especially if they let him keep doing what he does best: dance. In his first scene in the movie, Tatum taps his way through one of three big musical numbers that pay homage to the Golden Age of Hollywood. He also sings -- yes, it's really him -- as an actor named Burt Gurney playing a sailor in a movie-within-the-movie. The tune is called "No Dame," and it's an original by Henry Krieger and Willie Reale of Dreamgirls acclaim. The number recalls such classics as 1945's Anchors Aweigh and 1949's On the Town, both of which star Gene Kelly and Frank Sinatra as crooning seamen. But "No Dame"... 'American Psycho' Writer and Director Reteam for Manson Family Movie Posted: 03 Feb 2016 04:30 PM PST It's been 16 years since the release of American Psycho, and Mary Harron hasn't done anything else that's quite so notable. Sure, she's had steady work in television and also directed a couple of disappointing movies, including The Notorious Bettie Page and The Moth Diaries. But American Psycho is a modern classic that the visionary filmmaker hasn't been able to match let alone top. Harron could finally regain that level of distinction, however, with her next feature. Deadline reports that The Family, which will be based on the Manson Family murders, reunites her with American Psycho screenwriter Guinevere Turner -- who, yes, also collaborated on Bettie Page, but this time the duo is also returning to the subject of murders and executions. The... Read More This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
Vin Diesel Announces 'Fast and Furious' Movies Going All the Way to 2021 Posted: 03 Feb 2016 03:00 PM PST There aren't very many movie franchises that can confidently lay claim to release dates that are years and years away. Star Wars gets to do it. Superhero movies get to do it. That's basically it. Every other franchise, whether it's Toy Story or The Hangover, has to take sequels one movie at a time. Every other franchise except for The Fast and the Furious, that is. The series that keeps on defying all expectations already had an April 14, 2017 release date for Fast 8, but now star and producer Vin Diesel has gone ahead and announced dates for Fast 9 on April 19, 2019 and Fast 10 on April 2, 2021. That is no doubt bold. Heck, even Star Wars hasn't officially announced movies as far reaching as 2021. As of right now the only one of these that has any concrete... 'Titanic' Shocker! Jack Could Have Lived, Admits Kate Winslet Posted: 03 Feb 2016 01:30 PM PST Please note: this post includes a major spoiler about the conclusion of 1997's Titanic. Originally slated for theatrical release in the summer of 1997, James Cameron's Titanic was a tremendous risk at the time. Thanks to the global success of Aliens, Terminator 2: Judgment Day and True Lies, Cameron was known as an action director, so the prospect of him directing a romantic epic set on the doomed maiden voyage of the RMS Titanic in 1912 was surprising, to say the least. The shooting schedule was extended to more than five months in total and the budget reportedly expanded to about $200 million, making it the most expensive production in history. When Cameron realized that it would not be possible to finish the film in time for its scheduled release on July 2, it was...
