This Is What a 'Back to the Future' Prequel Might Look Like

Posted: 17 Feb 2016 10:00 PM PST

Back to the Future director Robert Zemeckis and cowriter Bob Gale have gone on the record saying they're won't be any kind of reboot or sequel as long as they're alive.  But what about a prequel? We don't know much about the years between Doc Brown's (Christopher Lloyd) discovery of the Flux Capacitor in 1955 and the 1985 events that lead to Marty traveling back in time to 1955. What was Brown up to for all those years? This fan-made trailer [via Slashfilm] for a Back to the Future prequel reveals that much of it was spent gathering up enough plutonium to reach 1.21 gigawatts. And it wasn't easy. This trailer makes it seem like Doc Brown is the star of his own Bourne movie. Great Scott! Check it out. The trailer was created by Tyler...

'The Witch' Director Is Planning a Medieval Epic Before His 'Nosferatu' Remake

Posted: 17 Feb 2016 08:30 PM PST

The Witch, a searing horror tale set in New England in the 1600s, is the kind of movie so meticulously crafted that not a single inch of what's on screen seems out of place. Every shadow has a purpose, every facial tick has a meaning. Every corner of what you're seeing is in service of a period-accurate story about a family torn asunder after they suspect a witch has kidnapped their newborn. It's so remarkably well made that it's frankly astonishing that it's someone's directorial debut. The mind behind it all belongs to Robert Eggers. He's a relatively young artist who spent most of his pre-Witch career as a production designer making other people's movies look great, but now he's shifted over to a new path as a writer-director. Not long after...

Here's What the New 'Ghostbusters' Villain Will Look Like

Posted: 17 Feb 2016 07:00 PM PST

We've still barely seen any footage from the new Ghostbusters, which arrives in theaters this summer. A teaser finally dropped two days ago advertising that a full trailer will come next month, but it didn't show us very much. Over the weekend, however, the annual Toy Fair held in New York featured a booth showing off the reboot's officially licensed action figures from Mattel, including a brand new bad guy.  In a video taken at the Ghostbusters toy display, a representative points out the four women Ghostbusters, all resembling their respective actresses, and a few random little mini ghosts, including the new Slimer. Then there's a winged creature, presumably a bad guy, called Mayhem, and a cartoony-looking main villain referred to as Rowan. You can...

'Kingsman 2' Brings In Julianne Moore as Its New Villain

Posted: 17 Feb 2016 05:15 PM PST

Villains are some of the hardest things to get right in a movie. It's easy to make a hero. Throw some people in danger, have someone step in and save them and boom, you've got a hero. It obviously helps if the hero's journey is a tad more complex than that, but at bare minimum they need to just do the right thing. It's not the same with villains. Doing the wrong thing isn't sufficient enough to make for a truly great villain. You have to understand where they're coming from. There has to be an unsettling logic to their plans, to the point where the audience almost sympathizes with them. That is one of the many, many things Kingsman: The Secret Service did right. Samuel L. Jackson's Valentine is a bad guy who is not only fun to watch, but he's one...

'Transformers 6' Will Be a Bumblebee Spin-off Movie

Posted: 17 Feb 2016 03:00 PM PST

Last week we heard that a new Transformers movie will be arriving in theaters annually, starting next year and continuing through 2019, at least. The possibility of spin-off movies, however, was not mentioned in the announcement by franchise producer and distributor Paramount. Now comes word that a previously-announced sequel is transforming into a spin-off movie. Transformers 6, set for release on June 8, 2018, will revolve around Autobot Bumblebee, according to THR. "“There are characters in the Transformers universe that can be and should be made into their own movies,” said Brad Grey, Paramount Pictures chairman and CEO. “We will make the first movie with Michael [Bay] and go right into a Bumblebee movie, which will be at a lower cost.” By...

See How 'Deadpool' Director Tim Miller Also Helped Make 'Iron Man' a Blockbuster Hit

Posted: 17 Feb 2016 01:30 PM PST

It's hard to remember a time when the world didn't know about Iron Man. But it was only eight years ago that Tony Stark (as played by Robert Downey Jr.) and his super suit of armor arrived in theaters, changing not just comic book movies but all of blockbuster cinema forever. From 2008's Iron Man came the Marvel Cinematic Universe and eventually the character found himself joined by the likes of the Hulk and Spider-Man (the latter to be seen soon) in his Avengers-centered franchise.   Well, almost a decade ago, Iron Man was first joined by those particular heroes for a series of videos that helped his initial solo movie become such a hit. And as it turns out, those videos were thanks in part to a certain director who just gave us the next big step for the...

The Gang Is Back Together In the First Image from 'Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2'

Posted: 17 Feb 2016 12:20 PM PST

As Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 begins production (with a release date set for May 5, 2017), Disney has dropped the first image from the film featuring Chris Pratt as Peter Quill/Star-Lord;  Zoe Saldana as Gamora; Dave Bautista as Drax; Vin Diesel as the voice of Groot; and Bradley Cooper as the voice of Rocket. One big revelation in the above image is that it appears as if the film begins with little Groot instead of big Groot. Does that mean it picks up right after the first one ended? Additionally, Disney has officially confirmed that Kurt Russell has joined the cast, most likely playing Peter Quill's father. The sequel, once again directed by James Gunn, "continues the team’s adventures as they unravel the mystery of Peter Quill’s true...
