R-Rated Version of 'Batman v Superman' Will Be Released on DVD Posted: Thanks to the success of "Deadpool," all the superhero movies want in on the R rating. The MPAA revealed that there is an R-rated cut of "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" labeled for home release. That version has "sequences of violence" that push it beyond the PG-13 theatrical edition opening March 25. So, no sex for the titular superheroes (sorry, slash lovers — go write some fanfic). It's unclear if how far these "sequences of violence" go -- if they are longer, more brutal versions of existing battles, or a fight scene that had to be cut to make the PG-13 ratings.â?? This R-rated "Batman v Superman" was likely in the works for a long time before "Deadpool" stunned at the box office. Director Zack Snyder has released longer, darker cuts of previous films like "Watchmen." Still, "Deadpool's" jaw-dropping box office haul is further justification for making more superhero movies that are rated R. Fox is reportedly going to aim for that rating with its next "Wolverine" movie (also probably planned many moons ago). Want more stuff like this? Like us on Facebook. Topher Grace Made a Brilliant Fake 'Seinfeld' Reunion Episode Posted: Everyone wants a "Seinfeld" reunion, but it's about as likely to happen as that "Friends" reunion (read: never), so actor Topher Grace decided to make one himself. Grace dabbles in film editing— a few years ago, he condensed the "Star Wars" prequels into a one, satisfying 85-minute movie. This time, he used his digital scissors to make a "Seinfeld" reunion episode. The audio is taken from season 7 of "Curb Your Enthusiasm," which featured a plotline about a "Seinfeld" reboot. Grace splices it over still images from the show: Seinfeld Reunion It's pretty genius, as Grace says, the result is a hint at how a reunion episode would turn out. Of course, we'll probably never know what a real one would look like, so enjoy this for all it's worth. Want more stuff like this? Like us on Facebook. 'The Light Between Oceans' Trailer Has Alicia Vikander, Michael Fassbender, Heartbreak Posted: "The Light Between Oceans" is a vague title, but it's one of those dilemma dramas that forces you to ask yourself "What would you do?" when both options would be painful. Michael Fassbender and Alicia Vikander -- Oscar nominees who are apparently dating in real life, because they're not perfect enough on their own -- star in the film adaptation of M.L. Stedman's Australian novel. The first trailer was just released, co-starring Rachel Weisz. The story, set in the early 20th Century, follows married couple Tom (Fassy) and Isabel (Vikander), who live in a remote lighthouse off the Australian coast. One day, a baby girl mysteriously washes ashore in a boat, and they take her in. However, things get complicated years later when they discover the girl was not abandoned or orphaned. Instead, the baby and father were thought to be lost at sea, and the biological mother, Hannah (Weisz), desperately wants her child back. So what would you do? Give the baby back, even though she has been your daughter for years? Watch the trailer: "The Light Between Oceans" is scheduled for release September 2nd, 2016. Want more stuff like this? Oscar Predictions 2016: What Will Win Best Picture? Posted: The 2016 Oscars are are almost here, which means it's time to firm up those predictions and get your ballot all ready to go. This week, leading up to film's biggest night of the year, Moviefone's editors are revealing our predictions in the ceremony's biggest categories. We've already given you our picks for Best Actress and Best Actor. Now let's take a look at the biggest category of the night. Yup -- it's time for Best Picture. The nominees are: "The Big Short" "Bridge Of Spies" "Brooklyn" "Mad Max: Fury Road" "The Martian" "The Revenant" "Room" "Spotlight" Here, we've filled you in on who we think will win, as well as who we feel truly deserves to take home that coveted golden statue.â?? Tim Hayne What Will Win: "The Revenant." The power of an A-List, Oscar-nominated actor (Leonardo DiCaprio), an Oscar-winning director (Alejandro G. Iñárritu), and an impressive $165M box office haul are just too much for the Academy to ignore. "The Revenant" is easily the year's most buzzed about movie, and it's already nabbed the Golden Globe and BAFTA for Best Picture. Don't be surprised when it wins. What Should Win: "Spotlight." Taught, well-crafted, and well-acted, "Spotlight" is a must-see example of artful, resonant filmmaking that relies on a compelling story -- not stunts -- to get you in the theater. It checks all the boxes: a top-notch cast delivering memorable performances; a powerful, important story; and an emotionally potent message -- all of which stays with you days (even weeks) after you watch it. If anything, a Best Picture win would get more people to see it, witch they should. Phil Pirrello What Will Win: "The Revenant" One of the big hurtles standing in the film's way of taking home the biggest prize are the Academy's contingency of actors. They represent the biggest voting body and did not nominate the film for Screen Actors Guild's Best Ensemble — the SAG equivalent of Best Picture. That omission could result in an upset Sunday night, ditto "The Big Short's" PGA victory. (Most films tend not to win Best Picture if they haven't won the PGA.) But the last few weeks of buzz have all but declared "Revenant" the victor, so you might as well double-down on your office's Oscar pool. What Should Win: "Mad Max: Fury Road." If we're just gonna give awards away to movies that were hard to make, then no movie was harder to literally get off the ground than "Fury Road." More than a decade in development and full of false starts, George Miller finally managed to rev his shiny and chrome masterpiece to life. It's more than just a two-hour car chase; it's an inventive, instantly iconic action drama that checks all the boxes as to why we go to the movies. Here's hoping enough voters mark its box for Best Picture. Rachel Horner What Will Win: My heart says "Spotlight," but other parts of me says "The Revenant." As long as "The Big Short" doesn't win, I'm fine. I don't think that should have been nominated for anything except Worst Wigs in a Motion Picture. What Should Win: "Spotlight." Hands down. Alana Altmann What Will Win: "The Revenant." Hollywood loves a survival epic. Especially when it's beautifully shot and stars Leo DiCaprio. What Should Win: I'm torn between "Spotlight" and "The Revenant" here. "Spotlight" is an example of skillful storytelling and powerhouse acting, but the subject matter practically stands on its own since it's such a powerful story to begin with. "The Revenant" is a harder narrative to pull off. Somehow it made two hours and thirty six minutes of a mauled and freezing man breathing heavily in agony not only bearable (get it? bear-able?), but visually stunning and consistently enthralling. Everyone Is Dead, But Still Quotable, in 16 New 'Game of Thrones' Posters Posted: "Game of Thrones" is already off to a depressing start, two months before Season 6 even premieres on HBO. The first teaser trailer just showed faces of the definitely dead, maybe dead, and -- last we checked -- not dead at all. Many of those faces are now back with their own special soundbites in new posters. HBO released 16 character posters in all, most on its @GameofThrones account, but also in a few exclusives. Here are the faces and quotes, led by Jon Snow, who did not get his own soundbite for some reason (maybe the Night's Watch stabbed the quote "for the realm"). Behind him are Daario Naharis, Melisandre, Oberyn Martell, Daenerys Targaryen, Jaime Lannister, Tormund Giantsbane, Joffrey Baratheon, Robert Baratheon, Arya Stark, Tyrion Lannister, and Nymeria Sand. Variety got an exclusive to post Sansa Stark, TVLine got Robb Stark, The Hollywood Reporter got Cersei Lannister, and IGN got Catelyn Stark.
"Game of Thrones" Season 6 premieres Sunday, April 24 at 9 p.m. ET on HBO. Want more stuff like this? Like us on Facebook. This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
18 Oscar Speech One-Liners That Will Give You Life Posted: Going into Oscar night, we're always excited to find out who wins. But what always ends up being the most memorable part of the night are the words freshly crowned Academy Award winners use in their speeches -- on purpose or not. Some winners get sappy, while others take their moment at the mic to deliver some humor. These are some of the best Oscar "one-liners" in Academy Awards history. Watch Kevin Spacey Read Hilarious 'House of Cards' Scenes Written by Kids Posted: When you have 10 minutes to spare, do yourself a favor and watch Kevin Spacey do Christopher Walken and Jack Lemmon impressions while reading "House of Cards" scenes written by very confused children. The real Netflix series returns March 4, but while on "The Tonight Show" Tuesday night, Spacey and Jimmy Fallon held a "MasterClass Junior" to read three scenes written by elementary school kids who were only given the title "House of Cards" and had to write scripts from there. The results are priceless. Actually, even the start is priceless: Before Spacey and Fallon read the scenes, they competed for the young judges's votes, since the kids would decide, in the end, who was the better actor. During that intro, Fallon roasted Spacey in a way that got a massive LOL from the actor. The joke was too racy for the kids to understand, but considering the kids wrote lines like "What's up, tuna butt," there's clearly a lot they don't understand about "House of Cards." One of the kids even told Spacey, very sweetly, "I don't get you." Spacey's response, "Well, let me tell you, you can get in line." Bless him. Watch the video: FYI, the bit is based on Spacey's real MasterClass, which is now available at www.masterclass.com. Want more stuff like this? Like us on Facebook. Ryan Reynolds Makes Compelling Arguments for 'Deadpool' Oscars Posted: The polls for this Sunday's 88th annual Academy Awards closed on Tuesday. Leonardo DiCaprio can now breathe easy, there's no more campaigning to be done for his inevitable win. One last-minute Oscars 2016 campaign argued for "Deadpool" to nab some votes. Ryan Reynolds tweeted out a "For Your Consideration" poster which was damn near perfect -- if only he had just done a cleavage push like Melissa Leo for "The Fighter."
Granted, "Deadpool" can't win any Oscars because it's not nominated for any, because it just came out last week and the 2016 winners will come from films released last year. But that's boring PC establishment BS and all the Oscars voters should've just written "Deadpool" anyway! And Ryan should bring both Betty White and Blake Lively to the Oscars as his dates. It's possible "Deadpool" will pick up some awards eventually, if not from the Oscars than probably the MTV Movie Awards, People's Choice Awards, etc. In the meantime, here are the people who were nominated this year. The show airs this Sunday, February 28 on ABC. Want more stuff like this? Like us on Facebook. This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
Here Are the Fun Careers Kimmy Gibbler Almost Had on 'Fuller House' Posted: The Tanners aren't the only ones returning when "Fuller House" finally arrives this Friday, February 26 on Netflix. DJ's best friend, Kimmy Gibbler, is stepping into a major role as one of the series's three leads. Andrea Barber talked to The Hollywood Reporter about Kimmy's return and how they decided what she'd be doing at this point in time, when the character and the actress are both 39.
It already sounds like Kimmy and Fernando will probably get back together, but the journey is all, and fans get to see it play out this week. Do you think they should've made Kimmy a UN translator, or the owner of Gibbler's Nibblers which should seriously be a bakery we can visit? Want more stuff like this? Like us on Facebook. Taron Egerton Could Barely See While Making 'Eddie the Eagle' Posted: Taron Egerton is a relative newcomer to Hollywood, so transforming for a role isn't something he's really had the opportunity to do before. To play the lead in "Eddie the Eagle," Egerton had to change everything from his underbite to his prescription lenses, the latter of which, according to the star, made it very difficult for him to maneuver on the set. "Eddie the Eagle" hits theaters Friday, February 26th. This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
Super Meh? Watch Henry Cavill Get Rejected by Little Girls Who Prefer Batman Posted: Chicks love the car, man. Henry Cavill and Ben Affleck will soon face off (and then inevitably team up) in "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice." But first, as part of an Omaze charity video, the British Man of Steel himself sat down with a bunch of kids to try and win them over to Team Superman. Let's just say Cavill does not have a future in lobbying. He put his back into selling Superman, but not only did both of the little girls in the video stay strong with Team Batman, one of the little boys openly admitted, "I kind of like the villains." (Keep an eye on that kid, he's hilarious ... and sorta scary.) Here's the video, stay till the very end for an adorable coda: It's *possible* those girls just need to wait maybe 10 years, and then someone can show them Cavill's recent Instagram post and they'll change teams. So just go for the long game, Supe. If you'd like a chance to console Cavill in person, head to Omaze's site to enter the contest to hang out with Cavill, Ben Affleck, and Jesse Eisenberg at the premiere of "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice." The movie opens March 25. Want more stuff like this? Like us on Facebook. This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
5 More '90s TV Shows Netflix Should Give the 'Fuller House' Treatment Posted: "Have mer-say." It's almost here, "Full House" fans. Netflix has answered your prayers and resurrected the Tanner clan (plus Kimmy Gibbler) for "Fuller House." Because the world cannot keep spinning unless Uncle Jesse is in it. Digital outlets like our favorite streaming service seem to be where many cancelled shows go to get a second lease on life. In honor of the Tanners' return this Friday, here are five more shows from the '90s that Netflix should bring back. This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
