Stephen King Confirms 'Dark Tower' Progress, Idris Elba Casting Rumors Posted: As fans of Stephen King's fantasy series "The Dark Tower" have come to realize over the years, any reports about the long-awaited big screen adaptation of the novels can't really be believed. After all, this is the project that was dropped by not one, but two different studios, and has cycled through potential stars faster than you can say "Javier Bardem." So the latest reports, that the flick is due in theaters early next year, and both Idris Elba and Matthew McConaughey are in talks to star, are also bogus, right? Well, not so fast: According to King himself, there's hope that this movie version of his beloved books may actually, truly, finally be happening -- and yes, both Elba and McConaughey are interested. That's the word straight from the author, who chatted with Rolling Stone in promotion of the new Hulu miniseries "11/22/63," which is based on his besteller. Of course, King knows the history of the troubled "Dark Tower" film production better than anyone, and he's not ready to say with certainty that this is actually happening -- just that, as far as he can tell right now, it's looking like a strong possibility. "It looks to me like it's more likely than not it'll happen at this point," the author told the magazine. "Let's put it that way." And he also confirmed all those juicy casting rumors, too -- that Elba is being eyed to play protagonist Roland Deschain (a.k.a. The Gunslinger), and McConaughey is in negotiations for the villainous Randall Flagg (a.k.a. the Man in Black) -- though, again, with a caveat. "I think that it's more likely than not that Idris Elba and Matthew McConaughey will be in it," King told Rolling Stone. "But I can't say with any certainty. I know that they're trying to make deals with these actors [and] with Sony, and that's the extent of my knowledge." Despite all the hedging, King is without a doubt the best source for this intel, so it's great that he's able to share it on the record. Now we just have to wait for an official announcement from studio Sony, revealing the cast and confirming the release date. A this point, it's unclear if the initial ambitious plan for the project -- a handful of theatrical films, with a televised miniseries running between them -- is still in play. Either way, we hope we see Elba and McConaughey facing off sometime soon. "The Dark Tower" is tentatively scheduled to hit theaters on January 13, 2017. Will Smith and Martin Lawrence Are 'Definitely' Making 'Bad Boys 3' Posted: It's been almost 13 years since the last "Bad Boys" flick hit theaters, but that doesn't mean that "Bad Boys 3" is dead. In fact, star Will Smith just confirmed that the long-awaited threequel is "definitely" happening -- and it may be hitting theaters sooner than you think. Smith spilled the details in an interview with BBC Radio 1Xtra, in which he chatted about his long career and whether or not he'd make any more sequels to his previous hit films. While he's not involved with "Independence Day: Resurgence," and there are no plans for a "Wild Wild West 2," Smith did say that he would be making another "Bad Boys" flick alongside original costar Martin Lawrence. "I saw Martin a few weeks ago, and I hadn't seen him for about two years," Smith explained to the BBC. "And we just looked at each other, we hugged, and in that moment, we both knew we were making another 'Bad Boys.' So we're definitely doing another one." That's great news for fans of the franchise (which began with the first flick in 1995, followed by sequel "Bad Boys II" in 2003), who have waited for more than a decade for a follow-up. Studio Sony got fans' hopes up again last August when they announced a release date for not one but two more sequels, "Bad Boys 3" and "Bad Boys 4," though no further information about the flicks was revealed at that time. Now, based on Smith's comments, it looks like perhaps the studio just needed to get its stars aligned (and figure out their schedules) before making an announcement about the cast and plot. As it stands now, the tentative release date on the books for "Bad Boys 3" is February 17, 2017. We'll see if anything changes going forward. Liza Weil Confirms She's Back as Paris for 'Gilmore Girls' Revival Posted: Her involvement was all but a sure thing -- and other cast members have been talking about it, too -- but now, Liza Weil herself has confirmed that yes, Paris Geller will indeed be back for the "Gilmore Girls" revival. Variety caught up with the actress to chat about all things "Gilmore," and Weil -- who played Rory's (Alexis Bledel) frenemy-turned-roommate on the CW show -- gushed about her return to Stars Hollow. "It's very emotional to read them," the actress said of the new "GG" scripts. "It's like a really magical perfect time machine. I'm very happy to be a part of it." Just what that part entails has been kept heavily under wraps -- as has most of the plot of the revival -- though Weil did say that she would be appearing in two of the four new 90-minute episodes. And costar Kelly Bishop (a.k.a. Grandma Emily Gilmore) dished in an earlier interview with TVLine that what the show has in store for Paris is "a hoot" and "unbelievable." "It was like I didn't realize how much I missed her," Weil told Variety of revisiting her onscreen alter ego. "It was nice to sort of see an old friend." We missed her, too, and can't wait to catch up with her and the rest of the "Gilmore" gang. Production is underway now (Weil said she started shooting on Tuesday). The revival is expected to hit Netflix sometime later this year. [via: Variety, TVLine] This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
Goldie Hawn May Play Amy Schumer's Mom in Vacation Comedy Posted: Two comedy giants may be joining forces: Goldie Hawn is reportedly in talks to play Amy Schumer's mom in an upcoming mother-daughter vacation comedy. Vulture reporter Kyle Buchanan was the first to break the news that Hawn was circling the role, which would be her first since way back in 2002, when she co-starred with Susan Sarandon in "The Banger Sisters." Since then, Hawn has been in semi-retirement, so landing her for the Schumer project would be a major coup. According to TheWrap, the flick in question is an untitled project from director Jonathan Levine ("50/50," "Warm Bodies," "The Night Before"), produced by hitmaker Paul Feig and written by frequent Feig collaborator Katie Dippold ("The Heat," "Spy," this summer's "Ghostbusters"). It's based on Dippold's relationship with her own mother, per TheWrap, and centers around "a family vacation gone wrong." So far Hawn's involvement has not been confirmed by studio 20th Century Fox, but we're hoping this is one rumor that pans out. Pairing Schumer with Hawn would be a brilliant bit of casting, and we're excited to (hopefully) see them face off against each other. Stay tuned. 'The Good Wife' Could Get a Spinoff Posted: CBS confirmed this week that this season of "The Good Wife" would be the show's last, but for fans not ready to say goodbye, there may be some good news: A spinoff could be in the works. There's nothing official happening just yet, cautioned creators Robert and Michelle King, though when speaking with reporters on Monday, the producers said that they'd definitely be open to the idea of creating a new show centered around peripheral players from the existing "Good Wife" universe. "At this point, nothing's off the table," Michelle King said when asked about a potential spinoff. "Sure, maybe, we're not saying no to anything." "What would be fun is to find a way to spin off a [cast member] that wasn't at the center, who we wish we had more time with," added Robert King. "The show always centered around the Alicia character. What's appealing would be pursuing a different ensemble." And if a spinoff does develop, it may happen sooner rather than later: Robert King noted that the show's existing "infrastructure in New York" -- a.k.a. where they currently shoot the series -- would certainly lend itself well to a spinoff, using the same sets and production crews. "It would be great not to lose that," he told reporters. So keep your fingers crossed, folks, and stay tuned. "The Good Wife" airs its series finale on May 8. 9 Unforgettable 'Will They/Won't They' Couples in TV History Posted: There are some TV couples who you know totally belong together, but they just have trouble getting there or making it work. These "will they/won't they" pairs are typically faced with obstacles that have to do with bad timing, weird misunderstandings, or another (typically less-than-stellar) person in the mix, and they usually break-up and get back together more than once throughout a series. Sometimes they overcome their issues and end up riding off into the sunset together, and sometimes...they don't. There have been many memorable "will they/won't they" duos throughout TV history, and we decided to round out some of the best of 'em right here. You Got It, Dude: Here's the First 'Fuller House' Trailer Posted: Have mercy! The first full-length trailer for "Fuller House" debuted exclusively on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" and it's the nostalgia-filled trip down '90s memory lane that we all wanted it to be. The three main stars of the Netflix revival — Candace Cameron Bure, Jodie Sweetin, and Andrea Barber — stopped by the talk show to unveil the trailer, which hits all the "Full House" moments, from the many, many catchphrases to cheesy jokes to heartwarming hugs. Bure's D.J. Tanner is now a single mom of three boys, who's feeling overwhelmed, so sister Stephanie (Sweetin) and best friend Kimmy Gibbler (Barber) offer to move in to help out — a mirror image of the original series. And beloved cast members Bob Saget, John Stamos, Dave Coulier, and Lori Loughlin all reprise their roles. "Fuller House" will be available to stream Feb. 26 on Netflix. Want more stuff like this? Sylvester Stallone Almost Boycotted Oscars Ceremony Posted: Like his on-screen persona, Rocky, Sylvester Stallone is ready to fight — for diversity. The 69-year-old "Creed" actor, who is nominated in the supporting category at the Oscars this year, told reporters at yesterday's Academy Awards luncheon that he was ready to boycott the ceremony. This year's awards have been mired in controversy over the lack of nominees of color, and generated the #OscarsSoWhite social media campaign. Stallone considered boycotting in solidarity with "Creed" director Ryan Coogler and star Michael B. Jordan, neither of whom were nominated. "I remember I spoke with Ryan Coogler when this happened. I said, 'Ryan, how do you want to handle this? Because I really believe you are responsible for me being here,'" he said. "I said, 'If you want me to go, I'll go. If you don't, I won't.' "He said, 'No, I want you to go.' That's the kind of guy he is. He wants us to go and represent the film." Stallone heaped praise on both Coogler and Jordan, despite having neglected to thank them when he won a Golden Globe. He won't be forgetting them again anytime soon. "Michael Jordan, every time I looked in his eyes as an actor, I said, he was making me better," Stallone raved. "I think he should've been given a lot more respect and attention."
