The Last Sci-Fi Blog: 'The 100' Will Scratch Your Hard Science Fiction Itch Posted: 27 Aug 2015 09:30 PM PDT Every so often, we get a year like 2014, where there's so many good science fiction movies hitting theaters that your faith in the genre becomes newly renewed. And then a year like 2015 rolls around, where you remember why those bountiful harvest years of great genre cinema are truly rare. In this arid desert, there is only one thing left to do: turn your attention to the small screen, where science fiction always thrives. The medium that gave us The Twilight Zone and Star Trek and Quantum Leap and everything in-between always has something worth your time, even when it comes from an unlikely source. So, without further ado, direct your attention toward The 100, your latest sci-fi obsession. Don't look at me like that. Yes, The 100 is a teen show on The CW and yes, at... Check Out Google's New Shortcut to Finding Out if a Movie Is Good Or Bad Posted: 27 Aug 2015 08:00 PM PDT Movie review aggregate sites are often blamed for ruining film criticism. They don't just unfairly break down a bunch of opinions into one simple consensus, people say, but they also allow numerical ratings to be affixed to that consensus as if to assign it a be-all and end-all stamp of measurement determining a movie's worth. It can be argued that it's not really the fault of the sites that do this so much as it's the fault of people who visit the sites and only look at those scores. Still, the sites themselves can wind up an easy target, as in the case of a rant by writer and Stephen King offspring Joe Hill, who is angry about the Rotten Tomatoes aggregation of a couple new movies he likes. Well, for Hill and other critics of those review-melding sites... Read More This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
New 'Captain America: Civil War' Concept Art Reveals Two Badass Superhero Teams Posted: 27 Aug 2015 06:06 PM PDT What we know about Marvel's next film, Captain America: Civil War (in theaters May 6, 2016), is that it'll feature a divided group of superheroes, with Iron Man and Captain America on opposite sides of a government mandate to have more control over where they go and who they save. Some new concept art has arrived online, and it finally reveals who is on Team Iron Man and who is on Team Captain America. Take a look below, via Jeremy Renner's (Hawkeye) Twitter feed. Cool poster. The First Pic of Michael Fassbender In 'Assassin's Creed' Looks Straight Out of the Game Posted: 27 Aug 2015 03:23 PM PDT The next high profile video game to hit movie theaters will be Assassin's Ccreed, an adaptation of the franchise that has spanned multiple console generations and spawned at least eight games so far, and that's not even counting all of the mobile tie-ins, comics, books, and even short films. It's kind of a big deal on the small screen. Michael Fassbender is hoping to make it a big deal on the big screen, too. He's producing and starring in the Assassin's Creed movie, and Yahoo just released the first image of him in full wardrobe as Callum Lynch. Looks straight out of one of the games, right? However, don't expect that to be the same case with the plot. The movie version, which also stars Marion Cotillard, Michael K. Williams, and Ariane Labed, is... Production is expected to get underway on the not-yet titled project early next year.
