J.J. Abrams Reveals Origins of 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' Villains Posted: The Force is strong with Kylo Ren, the Darth Vader-obsessed villain in J.J. Abrams' "Star Wars: The Force Awakens." But unlike Vader, don't expect Ren to be playing for Team Sith. "[He] is not a Sith," Abrams revealed in Empire Magazine's cover story on the film. While we have known that Adam Driver's character idolizes the number one cause of death for guys named "Captain Needa," and models his mask and general appearance after Vader, this is the first we are hearing of his lack of allegiance to the Sith, the evil version of Jedi knights. "[Kylo Ren] works under Supreme Leader Snoke," Abrams said, "who is a powerful figure on the Dark Side of the Force." Snoke is the rumored motion-capture character played by Andy Serkis, with Snoke seemingly set up to be the new trilogy's version of supreme baddie Emperor Palpatine. "The Force Awakens" also features The First Order, an Imperial-like dark force that, according to Abrams, are based less on the Empire that came before and more on... the Nazis? "That all came out of conversations about what would have happened if the Nazis all went to Argentina but then started working together again?" Abrams told Empire. He went on to say: "What could be born of that? Could The First Order exist as a group that actually admired The Empire? Could the work of The Empire be seen as unfulfilled? And could Vader be a martyr? Could there be a need to see through what didn't get done?" So, basically, The First Order are picking up where the Empire left off. And Ren is a collector of This movie can't get here fast enough. "Force Awakens" hits theaters Dec. 18. This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
Norman Reedus Is Down for a Daryl & Merle 'Walking Dead' Spinoff Posted: It's just a dream for now, but "Walking Dead" fans with an affinity for Daryl Dixon should know that the actor who plays him is totally on-board for a spinoff about the character -- provided one is ever made. Norman Reedus gave Daryl devotees something new to obsess over last week when he responded to a fan query on Twitter about a possible "TWD" prequel series focusing on Reedus's Daryl, and his scoundrel brother, Merle (Michael Rooker). We have to remind you, again, that this is totally made up and not at all currently in the works -- especially since "The Walking Dead" is still one of the most popular shows on television, and has already spawned a similarly-successful spinoff -- but it's kind of fun to speculate anyway. And Reedus, no doubt feeling the same way, acknowledged the potential of the idea, and gave it a hearty thumbs-up for good measure. "[T]hat sounds super fun," Reedus tweeted about the idea. We agree, Norman. We agree. Now if only Rooker wasn't so busy appearing as another big bully in the "Guardians of the Galaxy" franchise. We're going to pretend that that's the only obstacle in this genius idea's way, and not the fact that "The Walking Dead" is going to be on the air for the next zillion seasons, so Reedus has no chance of starring in anything else. "The Walking Dead" returns for season six on October 11. [via: Norman Reedus, h/t ComicBook.com] Photo credit: Gene Page/AMC This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
'The Flash' Casts Newcomer Violett Beane as Jesse Quick Posted: "The Flash" is getting even faster for season two, with news that the show has just cast another fleet-footed character. TVLine reports that newcomer Violett Beane will be joining the show as Jesse Quick, the alter ego of Jesse Chambers, who's described as "a heroine with super-speed powers." According to TVLine, Beane is set to appear in multiple episodes, and her character is "a brilliant but quirky college student who gets caught up in the battle between The Flash and Season 2 Big Bad (the not-yet-cast) Zoom." Not much is known about Beane, who only has two IMDb credits to her name, though she recently co-starred in the indie comedy "Slash" alongside Michael Ian Black. Black is a longtime friend of current "Flash" star Tom Cavanagh (they starred together on NBC series "Ed" back in the early 2000s); perhaps that connection is how Beane became involved with the CW show? Fans will get a chance to see the actress in action soon, when "The Flash" returns for its second season on October 6. Candace Cameron Bure Joins 'The View,' Joy Behar Returns Posted: It's been rumored for weeks, but now, news of "Full House" star Candace Cameron Bure joining "The View" is official -- and a familiar face will also be joining her at the table. ABC announced on Tuesday that Bure would be one of the venerable talk show's new, permanent panelists, along with Joy Behar, who was one of the original "View" hosts when the show launched in 1997, and left the program in 2013. That twosome will be joined by a third new co-host, Paula Faris, who currently co-anchors ABC's weekend edition of "Good Morning America." Bure, who's appeared on "The View" as a guest host several times over the past few months, is expected to lend a more conservative viewpoint to the program, and said in a statement that she was "thrilled" to join the show on a permanent basis. "I am honored to be a new addition to such a strong group of bright and opinionated women, and I look forward to sharing this exciting journey with viewers new and old," Bure's statement said. Comedian Behar cracked wise in her own statement, relishing her return to the show she helped build. "Just when I thought I was out, they pulled me back in," Behar's statement said. "... But I'm happy to be back home. And I'm looking forward to sticking my two cents into the hot topics, especially now that Hillary and the Donald are in the spotlight." "The View," which also features panelists Whoopi Goldberg, Raven-Symoné, and the recently-announced Michelle Collins, will be back for its 19th season starting on September 8. Petition Calls Caitlyn Jenner Halloween Costume 'Transphobic' Posted: A new Halloween costume featuring Caitlyn Jenner's look from her now-iconic Vanity Fair cover has gone viral, and not in a good way: Thousands of angry people are petitioning the retailers of the costume -- which they call "transphobic" -- to halt its planned sale.
As for Spirit Halloween, the company claims that it's actually applauding Jenner, and the costume shouldn't be seen as a mockery, but the opposite. This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
The Definitive Ranking of 'Gossip Girl' Characters, From Least to Most Garbage Posted: Let's be honest, every character on "Gossip Girl" is at least a little bit garbage; it's kind of the point of the show. If one of them isn't causing trouble, then what will the almighty Dan Humphrey -- I mean Gossip Girl -- post about? But, how do they compare to each other when it comes to being terrible? They've all lied, cheated, and schemed, but some have used their girlfriends as property, or used their wives for a hefty dowry (yeah, you read that right). Here is the definitive ranking of "Gossip Girl" characters from most to least garbage. This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |

Is Daniel the Real Bully in 'Karate Kid'? An Investigation Posted: Maybe Barney Stinson was right all along in "How I Met Your Mother": The real hero of "Karate Kid" is Johnny, and the bully is Daniel. This video, by YouTube user J. Matthew Turner, argues much of the same thing. In his view, Daniel (Ralph Macchio) is "a violent sociopath who moves to a California town and begins tormenting a local boy and his friends." Meanwhile, Johnny (William Zabka) is a reformed ex-degenerate who's trying to get his act together. Sure, Johnny is a flawed hero, but he doesn't instigate their beach fight, nor play a prank on him at school, nor cause a multi-car collision, nor engage in a sport of which he doesn't know the rules. It's a brilliant bit of revisionist history, but the idea was already floating around thanks to Barney Stinson (Neil Patrick Harris). He considered "Karate Kid" the tale of "a hopeful young karate enthusiast whose dreams and moxie take him all the way to the All-Valley Karate Championship. Of course, sadly, he loses in the final round to that nerd kid. But he learns an important lesson about gracefully accepting defeat." Barney's hero-worship of Johnny was so legen ... wait for it ... dary, that Ralph Macchio and William Zabka appeared as themselves in the final season episode, "Bro Mitzvah." The Real-Life House From 'Up' Is Getting Its Own Movie Posted: The real-life house in Seattle with similarities to the home in Pixar's "Up" is starring in its own movie. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Fox Searchlight is developing a film Edith Macefield, who was the lone holdout when a big commercial development bought all the land around her 1,000-square-foot home. While Pixar denies that Macefield's house inspired the one carried away by balloons in "Up," the similarities are very striking. Macefield's house stood in Seattle for 100 years, until 2006, when commercial real estate developers began buying up all the properties around her. She became something of a local hero by turning down a $1 million offer. The movie will focus on her unlikely friendship with Barry Martin, who supervised the construction project. He checked on the elderly woman daily as the five-story mall was built around her house. When Macefield died in 2008, she willed her home to Martin. Now, the house is owned by a non-profit, which is trying to raise money to move it to Orcas Island. They'd better start filling up those balloons! Want more stuff like this? Like us on Facebook. Ben Higgins Is the Next 'Bachelor' Posted: It's official - Ben Higgins is your next "Bachelor." ABC announced the news on last nights "After Paradise." The 26-year-old software salesman from Denver was considered a frontrunner for the position ever since he was eliminated in third place on Kaitlyn Bristowe's season of "The Bachelorette." "It's incredible," he told host Chris Harrison last night. "People like me don't get opportunities like this, and I never would have thought that this opportunity would be something that I could have and I'm excited. Everything leading up to this has just been incredible." "Bachelor" fan Amy Schumer (who appeared on "The Bachelorette" last season) phoned into "After Paradise" to jokingly warn Higgins, "Don't do it." She also asked, "Do you want to have phone sex with me?" There were rumors that fellow Bristowe rejects Ben Zorn and Nick Viall, as well as Andi Dorfman's ex-fiance Josh Murray, were in the running, but in the end, Higgins won the "Bachelor" title. He was a favorite last season, known for being a nice guy who wore a lot of sweaters, was definitely not a virgin, and enjoyed talking all night. Bristowe, at least, enthusiastically endorses Higgins. "I think he's just God's gift to women," she told Variety last month. "Not sure why I didn't see that, but, I mean, men, women, their dogs, they all love Ben H." Want more stuff like this? Like us on Facebook. Alison Brie and Dave Franco Are Engaged Posted: Alison Brie and Dave Franco are getting married. The young Hollywood couple recently got engaged, as E! Online confirmed with Brie's rep. The "Community" and "Mad Men" star wore an engagement ring last night to a screening of her upcoming movie, "Sleeping With Other People." She and the "Neighbors" actor have reportedly been dating since 2012, but have been extremely low-key about their relationship (there are hardly any photos of them together). The 32-year-old Brie is a versatile actress with credits in both drama and comedy, television and movies, including "The Five-Year Engagement" and "Get Hard." Franco, 30, is the brother of actor/director/writer/student of life James Franco, and has appeared in "21 Jump Street" and "Warm Bodies." They both voiced characters in "The Lego Movie." You can see them together on screen in the Funny or Die short "Dream Girl." Want more stuff like this? Like us on Facebook. This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |

Best of Late Night TV: Kimmel Trolls Fallon With 'Heatherball' Game, Jeff Goldblum's Baby Talk Posted: If you're like us and value your sleep, you probably nodded off into your Ambien dreamland before the party started on post-prime time TV. Don't worry; we've got you covered. Here's the best of what happened last night on late night. "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon," "Late Night With Seth Meyers" and "The Late Late Show with James Corden" were all on repeats on Monday night. That left "Jimmy Kimmel Live" and "Conan" with new shows, and they were ready to steal your attention. Jimmy Kimmel trolled Jimmy Fallon -- who always has elaborate games for his guests -- by setting up a game called "Heatherball," aka tetherball with Heather Graham's face on it (brilliant!), with guest Bob Odenkirk (mock) refusing to play. Bob said he wanted to just sit down and talk to Jimmy, and called his publicist on stage to complain that he was being forced to play a stupid game. Bob talked about "Better Call Saul" vs. "Breaking Bad" and he brought his own interview questions to JKL. He felt like Jimmy was the kind of guy who could cut through the BS and ask the real questions people want to know. Like, "Why are you trying to steal Jon Hamm's Emmy?" Jimmy also had fun with the One Direction "break," mocking the news media coverage and texting his niece about the split. Here's Jimmy demonstrating virtual reality Facebook and what a nightmare that could be: Patricia Clarkson told Jimmy she was just in London doing a play ("The Elephant Man") with Bradley Cooper. She had to be naked and cry (at the same time), and she wanted the royal family to be in The Royal Box and see her naked. Over on "Conan," Jerrod Carmichael showed how he gave away free copies of his new show's pilot on VHS. But the tapes don't actually include the pilot episode, they include his rants about the moon landing. Jeff Goldblum talked to Conan O'Brien about being a new father, and they showed how his son's favorite toy is Jeff's nose. Cute. But it sounds like he's not the most hands-on dad in terms of changing the baby and doing practical stuff. Conan also revealed what he's watching on TV, with details from the INFO button. Cue shade for "The Apprentice," NFL Preseason football, CBS Evening News, "Boston EMS," "Dating Naked," "Devious Maids," "Pawn Stars," "Bones," and "Bachelor in Paradise." The "Bones" one is pretty good. Finally, Conan introduced the female Viagra, "Vagalis," which takes a while to kick in: Want more stuff like this? Like us on Facebook.
