'Galaxy Quest' TV Series Coming to Amazon Posted: It came out more than 15 years ago, but producers are hoping fans still want more from "Galaxy Quest," the quirky 1999 sci-fi comedy. Entertainment Weekly reports that Amazon has just acquired a television series based on the flick -- which itself focused on the cast of a fictional sci-fi show, who are then abducted by real aliens -- and is in the early stages of adapting the movie. Much of the creative team behind the film is involved with the project, including co-writer Robert Gordon (he's penning the screenplay and executive producing the pilot), director Dean Parisot (directing and executive producing), and producers Mark Johnson and Melissa Bernstein (also producing again). The flick starred Sigourney Weaver, Tim Allen, Alan Rickman, Sam Rockwell, Justin Long, and Tony Shaloub, among other well-known stars, and it's not clear yet if they'll be reprising their roles (it would seem that many of them may be too busy). EW reports that the series is still in the early planning stages, so we won't know for a while whether any original stars are being sought, or if the show will recast and reboot. Either way, this could be fun. Stay tuned for more. [via: Entertainment Weekly] Photo credit: Getty Images This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |

Here's the First Look at Michael Fassbender in 'Assassin's Creed' Posted: The long-awaited big screen adaptation of video game "Assassin's Creed" is finally starting production, and now, fans have their first glimpse of star Michael Fassbender in the flick. The photo, courtesy of Yahoo! Movies, features Fassbender as Callum Lynch, a new character created specifically for the flick. According to the site, the "Assassin's" movie won't be rehashing anything that's happened in any of the previous "Assassin's" games, but rather insert new characters and storylines into the game's existing world. Yahoo! continues: Sounds pretty crazy, but then again, it's based on a video game, so some stretching of reality is sort of expected. Check out the brooding, badass Fassbender in the photo below. "Assassin's Creed" also stars Marion Cotillard, Michael Kenneth Williams, and Ariane Labed. Filming on the flick starts next week, and the movie is due in theaters on December 21, 2016. [via: Yahoo! This Teacher's 'Harry Potter'-Themed Classroom Is Magical Posted: Summer may be over, but one Oklahoma teacher is keeping the fun alive thanks to an ingenious idea for her classroom: a "Harry Potter" theme. Stephanie Stephens, who teaches elective math and reading classes for grades six through eight at James L. Capps Middle School in Oklahoma City, told ABC News that she was inspired to decorate with "Potter" in mind both in honor of her own love for the series, and to inspire a similar passion in her students. "One of the toughest things as a reading teacher is instilling a love of reading in students that do not like reading," Stephens told ABC. "This year, I chose to go with a Harry Potter theme because if I am excited and enthusiastic, students tend to follow suit. My goal is to help students find at least one book or genre that they can find exciting and be as enthusiastic about as I am regarding Harry Potter." Stephens's professed enthusiasm is apparent in all the details, big and small, on display in her classroom, with everything from a big sign featuring Harry's iconic lightning bolt scar and glasses, to a stuffed version of three-headed dog Fluffy, to a shelf full of potions (including bezoars and veritaserum). There's a section with winged keys (a nod to the ending of "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone"), a stuffed Scabbers and Hedwig, and even a prefect's desk for the student who's assigned to be class helper. Students will also be sorted into houses, just like Hogwarts witches and wizards (Stephens says she's a Hufflepuff), and can earn house points with good behavior and high grades, which will go toward a class prize. And of course, the door through which Stephens's students enter her classroom is marked with a Platform 9 3/4 sign. Stephens -- whose room first went viral thanks to a Reddit post by her husband -- told ABC that she was happy to put so much work into her classroom for her students, "because they deserve the best." Check out some photos of Stephens's room below. [via: ABC News, Reddit] Photo credit: 86thdj/Reddit This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
New 'Star Wars' Footage Reveals John Boyega's Lightsaber In Action Posted: New footage from "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" teases a lightsaber battle in the snow. Yes, please. Lucasfilm revealed on Instagram Thursday new scenes from J.J. Abrams' much-anticipated movie. We get a shot of everyone's favorite droid, BB-8, as Finn (Daisy Ridley) flashes a very worried look at something off-screen. But the money shot comes when we see, for the first time, Renn (John Boyega) ignite his blue lightsaber seemingly about to battle it out with baddie Kylo Ren as snow falls and ohmygod we're having palpitations. If that blue lightsaber looks familiar, that's because it is most likely the same one used by Luke Skywalker in the previous trilogy. We'll have to wait until Dec. 18 to see how Renn comes to possess it. Watch the goodness below. This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
See Taylor Swift & Lisa Kudrow Sing 'Smelly Cat' from 'Friends' Posted: Like any good millennial, it turns out that Taylor Swift is a big fan of "Friends" -- so much so, in fact, that she invited star Lisa Kudrow on stage at her show in Los Angeles Wednesday night to sing a Phoebe Buffay classic. Maybe there's room for Taylor on the big orange couch at the next "Friends" reunion? Photo credit: YouTube This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
Jack Black's 17 Best Movie Roles Posted: With over 40 films under his belt, Jack Black has quite the resume. He made his film debut as a political groupie in 1992's "Bob Roberts." He was also Sean Penn's brother in "Dead Man Walking," the head of "The Nasties" in "The Neverending Story III," and target practice for Bruce Willis in "The Jackal." But none of those roles made a mark: It's his wild child rock persona we loved in "School of Rock" and "High Fidelity," not to mention his teddy-bear soft side in "The Holiday" and the movies that prove he can more than hold his own as a dramatic actor. (Insert off-color joke here.) In honor of Black's birthday, raise your goblet of rock to toast his 17 best movie roles. This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
Paula Deen, Chaka Khan, Vine Star Hayes Grier Join 'Dancing With the Stars' Cast Posted: The cast of "Dancing With the Stars" season 21 is slowly being revealed. A few more celebrities will join Bindi Irwin in vying for the mirrorball trophy. They are: TV chef Paula Deen, music legend Chaka Khan, Triple Crown-winning jockey Victor Espinoza, Backstreet Boy Nick Carter, and Vine star Hayes Grier. If you're wondering what a "Vine star" is, Grier boasts a huge following on social media, with four million followers on Vine and 2.93 million on Twitter. He shared his good news on the latter, naturally: ABC has been coy about unveiling the lineup for this season of "DWTS." The show earlier announced nine of the 12 pros, and has been trickling out celeb names. The full cast will be revealed on Sept. 2 on "Good Morning America."Want more stuff like this? Best of Late Night TV: Miley Cyrus Dresses in Disguise, Tricks Her Fans Posted: If you're like us and value your sleep, you probably nodded off into your Ambien dreamland before the party started on post-prime time TV. Don't worry; we've got you covered. Here's the best of what happened last night on late night. Miley Cyrus loves herself a prank, and she immediately changed into a black wig upon visiting "Jimmy Kimmel Live" and hit the streets in disguise as an Australian reporter. Her mission? To ask randoms what they thought about her. The catch? They definitely didn't know they were talking to a pop star. Probably that killer accent. Responses include "she's not one of my favorites," "I just like Taylor Swift better," and (amazingly) "I think she lost her mind." Hey, at least we know Miley has sense of humor about herself, right? Can't wait to see what she brings to the table during the VMAs. Hopefully, a foam finger. This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
The 30 Best Summer Movies of All-Time, Ranked Posted: Summer 2015 is almost over (sad face), and it's become one of the biggest ever at the box office. Thanks to movies like "Avengers: Age of Ultron," "Jurassic World," and "Inside Out," audiences were treated a solid slate worthy of keeping their butts in air-conditioned theaters while munching on overpriced (but so damn delicious) concessions. But, sad face again, it's time to leave the escapist fare behind and go back to, gulp, the real world. With jobs and school and stuff. In honor of our favorite movie season winding down, we ranked the 30 best summer blockbusters of all-time. From "Star Wars" to "Lion King," we got all your popcorn entertainment needs covered. Our rankings are based on overall film quality, legacy and that ol' chestnut, Editor's Choice. Oh, and we stuck to more traditional summer fare; so, while we love movies like "Saving Private Ryan" and "Road to Perdition," escapist summer fun they ain't.
