Kristen Stewart and Jesse Eisenberg Achieve Peak Awkward Interview

Posted:

Kristen Stewart and Jesse EisenbergNot only is this the summer when love died, but it's been the summer of awkward interviews.

There was that one for "Avengers: Age of Ultron" that Robert Downey Jr. walked out of. And the one where local broadcast reports called "Paper Towns" star Cara Delevingne "Carla" and then insulted her. And then, this week, "Fantastic Four" actors Michael B. Jordan and Kate Mara had to endure racist and sexists questions from obnoxious radio DJs.

Now, Funny or Die is getting in on the action with Kristen Stewart and Jesse Eisenberg. In an interview to promote their new movie, "American Ultra," the two stars asked each other questions. Except their question cards got switched!

So, now, Eisenberg has to talk about fashion designers and relationship status, and display his fingers for the Mani-Cam, while Stewart addresses her workout routine and pranks on set. Eisenberg can't believe some of the stupid questions his co-star has to put up with.

"American Ultra" hits theaters Aug. 21.

Suspect Wielding Hatchet, Gun Dead at Tennessee Movie Theater

Posted:

tenn shootingNASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - A suspect wielding a hatchet and a gun inside a Nashville-area movie theater died after exchanging gunshots with a SWAT team that stormed the theater, police said Wednesday.

The suspect, who was not identified, was armed with a gun and a hatchet at the Carmike Hickory 8 theater in Antioch, said Don Aaron, a spokesman for Metro Nashville police.

It was not immediately clear if anyone was wounded. Aaron said one person may have suffered a hatchet wound, but fire department spokesman Brian Haas said the agency had not treated anyone for any sort of injuries.

Aaron said an officer came into the theater and was fired upon by the suspect. The officer shot back, then backed off. After that, a SWAT team came in, and there was another exchange of gunfire. The suspect was then found dead.

The suspect had two backpacks, which are being checked by authorities.

Video from the scene showed a heavy presence at the theater, with local, state and federal officers setting up a perimeter in the parking lot. A wide area was roped off with yellow police tape, and at least one ambulance was outside the theater. Many officers were heavily armed.

The theater in Antioch is near Global Mall, a shopping center in a middle-class neighborhood.

The latest shooting comes about two weeks after a gunman opened fire inside a movie theater in Lafayette, Louisiana, during a screening of the film "Trainwreck." Police said John Russell Houser killed two people and wounded nine others before fatally shooting himself.

This 'Big Hero 6' Baymax Bed Is the Stuff of Our Dreams

Posted:

Big Hero 6 BedSweet dreams are made of this "Big Hero 6" Baymax bed.

This giant, 7-foot-5-inch cushion is sold exclusively on the Japanese commerce site DeNA, and retails for 53,000 yen (or about $431). It's made of plush, luxury cotton, and hand-tailored to order. Totally worth it, right? Wonder how much shipping would cost from Japan?

For a similar, not-quite-as-big Baymax bed, you can buy one on Amazon for $360. It's about 6-foot-5 by 5-foot-9.

If a Baymax bed is a little too much, you could also get this plush Baymax pillow, or this Baymax neck pillow for that long plane ride. And while you're shopping, there's this night light, this backpack, this purse, and this iPhone cover.

We want all the Baymax!

'The Leftovers' Season 2 Trailer Wants You to Believe in Miracles

Posted:

The LeftoversWhere do you go if you're looking for miracles? A town named Miracle, of course.

Entertainment Weekly has the first full trailer for season 2 of HBO's "The Leftovers," and at first, it seems that things are looking up for Kevin Garvey (Justin Theroux), Nora Durst (Carrie Coon), and their family. They decide to leave Mapleton for Miracle, Texas - which experienced zero Sudden Departures.

"What are you looking for?" asks new neighbor John Murphy (Kevin Carroll).

"A fresh start," Kevin answers.

Watch the trailer.

But the fresh start begins to sour when the daughter of John and wife Erika (Regina King) goes missing. Was there foul play? Did she run away? Or could this be another departure?

Judging from the trailer, season 2 seems to have a different tone than the often-depressing first season. There is still conflict and tension, but also moments of light and even some smiles!

As we learned from TCA last week, the Guilty Remnant won't be as big of a part of the storyline, though Ann Dowd's supposedly-dead leader, Patti, is seen in the trailer. Is she a ghost? Not really dead? Also, there are glimpses of Amy Brenneman as Kevin's ex, Laurie; Liv Tyler as acolyte Megan; and Chris Zylka as Kevin's son, Tommy, who appears to join the Guilty Remnant.

"The Leftovers" season 2 premieres Sunday, Oct. 4 on HBO.

7 Comedian-Led Sitcoms You (Probably) Forgot About

Posted:

There have been tons of TV shows headlined by stand-up comics over the years, but not all of them can be hits like "Seinfeld," "Ellen," "Martin," "Roseanne," or "Everybody Goes Raymond." For every stand-up sitcom success story, there are some short-lived programs that fell by the wayside. Even the most talented and popular comics couldn't make some of these shows last. Jerrod Carmichael is the latest young comic to headline a new series -- "The Carmichael Show" premieres on NBC come August 26. Will it stand the test of time? Take a look at 7 comedian-starring sitcoms you (probably) forgot about.

'Pooping Is Logical!' Book Seeks Help to Prosper With 'Star Trek' Bosses

Posted:

Not everyone will live long and prosper, but all who live will poop. Dropping a deuce is a natural enterprise, and a new potty-training book called "Pooping Is Logical!" takes a Spock from "Star Trek" approach to help kids boldly go where they had not gone before -- the toilet. Here's the thing, though, the husband and wife writer team are struggling to be taken seriously (imagine!) and they can't seem to get official "Star Trek" approval. So they're hoping the Internet gets behind them (but not directly behind them, because poop) and builds a movement to support the book.

Here's a description from Gary Whitta on his Tumblr, which features the front and back covers with illustrations by Mike Krahulik:

... Working on this idea with my wife has been a really great collaboration. I'm a Star Trek obsessive and she's a trained childcare professional who looked after other families' toddlers for years before we had our own. So we were both able to bring a bit of our own expertise to it. POOPING IS LOGICAL! tells the story of a young Vulcan child who, just like kids on Earth, is hesitant to make the leap out of diapers and onto the potty. Fortunately his parents, who are wise and loving, are on hand to help him through this transition and assure him that pooping on the potty is a perfectly natural, safe, and grown-up thing to do. In a society based on logic, what could be more logical than pooping?

... Here's the problem. We can't get anyone to take this seriously. My agents have reached out to the people at Paramount and Bad Robot, who currently hold sway over anything Trek-related, and they apparently have no interest. Something about not wanting to associate their brand with poop? Whatever. I'm fairly confident that geeky parents of my generation would be all over a book like this. I can't imagine a better nerdy baby shower gift. It's intended to make potty-training - an often arduous and prolonged endeavor at the best of times - fun for both kids and their parents.

... Under normal circumstances Mike, Leah and I would just crowdfund this thing and I'm pretty confident we'd hit our target. The Star Trek license is the issue. So the plan now is to put this idea out there on the internets in the hope of sparking a bit of buzz and perhaps getting the powers that be to take this a little more seriously. If POOPING IS LOGICAL! is something you'd be interested in seeing on bookshelves, do me a favor and help spread this around. Note this tumblr post, share it on Facebook and Twitter, with the hashtag #POOPINGISLOGICAL. Every little helps. Thanks!"

Come on, Paramount, Bad Robot, and "Star Trek" Powers that Be, don't you care about the children?! The young'uns of Earth need this direction.

It's hard to imagine executives monitoring Twitter to see if #POOPINGISLOGICAL starts trending, but maybe that's exactly what they're doing right now, so go tweet about this if you want to get the book for your kid ... or just as a gag gift for a friend.

RIP, 'Knock Knock Live': The Pros and Cons of Fox's Quickly Canceled Show

Posted:

knock knock live starring ryan seacrest"Knock Knock Live" vanished faster than the lions in Africa.

After just two episodes, the show has been canceled. The concept was great; they show up to unsuspecting people's homes, give them cash and prizes (and sometimes their neighbors get cash and prizes), all with a celebrity host, Ryan Seacrest, they never dreamed they'd meet. But the show was far from perfect. Here are some things I loved (and hated) about Fox's "Knock Knock Live."

In just two episodes, "Knock Knock" had me crying. I'm an intimidating, muscle-bound black man; I look so tough when I walk in a room... the plants curl up and die! But still, "Knock Knock" had me crying. David Beckham and Justin Bieber were in the two episodes; Bieber gave a sick girl and her family $50,000 and Beckham gave an even bigger and deserving struggling family $100,000. In both cases, you could feel and see the tears of joy streaming down their faces. In this economy, where so many are struggling to survive, there is no better gift you could give a hard-working family than cold hard cash. I loved it!

My other favorite part of the show was when they blew $25,000 out of a cannon and let the neighbors participate in the windfall of loot flying all over the place. "Knock Knock" gave them huge purse-like bags to stuff with as much cash as they could grab. What a wonderful gesture to include the neighbors in that.

The part of "Knock Knock Live" that I didn't care for was seeing the crew show up at a nice-looking house in a nice-looking neighborhood. The first thing that would pop in my head was, Why are they at that nice house and in a nice neighborhood? These people don't need any gifts or money, they should only go to low-income areas. When they went inside some of those houses it looked like the people living there were already ballin' and out of control. It looks so much better for the show, and is so much more well-deserved, when people who are struggling to make ends meet got knock knocked.

While "Knock Knock Live" had its pros and cons, I liked it more than I disliked it and was surprised to see it canceled so quickly. Perhaps income inequality is the blame. Maybe so many people are struggling to survive nowadays that anyone in that boat isn't interested in watching a bunch of people hit the lotto.

RIP, "Knock Knock Live."

'Seinfeld' Gets Awesome Alternate Ending ... As a 'Breaking Bad' Prequel

Posted:

Yada yada yada, b*tch! The Internet has done it again, giving us the "Seinfeld" and "Breaking Bad" mashup we never knew we needed. We did know we wanted a better ending for "Seinfeld" than the one we got, but combining Bryan Cranston's roles on both shows and re-imagining the ending as a revenge play from dentist Tim Whatley/Walter White? Genius!

YouTuber David Elmaleh (who also made the brilliant video "The Hunger Game of Thrones: Jon Snow Must Die") created "Seinfeld - The Exclusive Alternate Ending," which expertly shows how Cranston's character(s) would take offense at Jerry Seinfeld's cancer joke and get payback. Watch him thwart Jerry and the gang as they attempt to avoid prison time. Let this be a lesson to rabid Anti-Dentites everywhere:

That laugh track at the end is chilling. Just chilling.

'Fantastic Four' Honest Trailer Highlights Hypocrisy of Reboot Backlash

Posted:

Honest Trailers - Fantastic Four (2005)
Why is it that no one can successfully adapt "Fantastic Four"? Screen Junkies tackles the question in its latest Honest Trailer, this time focusing on the 2005 movie "Fantastic Four" and the sequel "Rise of the Silver Surfer," in advance of the new "Fantastic Four" reboot. "Before you see the third and hopefully final attempt to launch the Fantastic Four, relive the original two disappointments who gave their lives so that Chris Evans could be free to play a decent Captain America."

Some excellent points are made in the trailer, including how the F4 use their powers for the most pedestrian of reasons -- like skin care and fitting luggage overhead on a plane -- leading to the nickname "Craptastic Bore." However, the best part of the commentary (besides the Andrea from "Walking Dead" line) is toward the end, when they question why so many people are upset by the casting of Michael B. Jordan as a new black Johnny Storm with a white sister (Kate Mara), when no one said a word when they, uh, blonde-ified (half-Mexican) Jessica Alba opposite on-screen brother Chris Evans: "Make a Mexican woman put on a blonde wig and blue contacts to play Sue Storm and no one bats and eye. Cast a black guy as The Human Torch and everyone loses their minds!"

Of course, that trailer line just led to more debate in the video's comments about race, ethnicity, casting and comic book character fidelity. At least people are talking about "Fantastic Four" ... even if it remains to be seen if they'll pay to watch it on screen.

Watch the trailer.

ABC Boss Previews 'Grey's Anatomy' Season 12, Defends Derek Killer Shonda Rhimes

Posted:

Many "Grey's Anatomy" fans were shocked and outraged by the death of Derek (Patrick Dempsey) in Season 11. ABC Entertainment Group chief Paul Lee talked about the past and future of the show during the TCAs press tour, finding the positive side in the dramatic twist's high ratings and huge fan reaction.

It was great, wasn't it? It was great to see Grey's Anatomy so relevant and taking the national conversation in its 11th season. It was a difficult decision. Patrick obviously has lots of interests outside. He's very big in motosport. Shonda decided that was the way to go."

Shonda Rhimes is the show's creator, and Lee said she has some great plans for the post-Derek Season 12, which premieres September 24.

We've seen the pitch for Grey's next season. The show reinvents itself again. She really is a remarkable showrunner and we have no reason to expect that Grey's Anatomy won't go on for many years to come."

Shonda did her own McDreamy death defense at the TCAs:

The decision to have Derek die the way that he did was not a difficult one in the sense of what were the options? Either Derek was going to walk out on Meredith and leave her high and dry and what was that going to mean? That the love was not true, the thing we'd said for 11 years was a lie, for me was untenable. Meredith and Derek's love had to remain Meredith and Derek's love. So as painful as it was for me as a storyteller ... the only way to preserve what felt true for me was for Derek to have to die."

They were put in a tough spot on that one, even if some of the complaints were about how he died and the way that played out. Anyway, it sounds like they are full steam ahead for Season 12 with the potential for "many years to come." But how much longer should this show go on?

Joel McHale: 'Community' Cast Too Expensive for Season 7, Movie Still Possible

Posted:

"Community" has been a great career launchpad for its likable, talented cast, but the downside of that is -- after six seasons -- TV can't afford them anymore. That's show star Joel McHale's take on it, when talking to Metro Weekly about the move from NBC to Yahoo and the (slim) possibility of a Season 7.

Here's that portion of the Q&A:

MW: Is it getting another season on Yahoo?

McHALE: No. They wanted to. But all of our contracts were up after six years. All the actors on the show, almost without exception - their stock has risen significantly and it's out of the pay rate that is affordable to make the show. So you're not going to be able to get Alison Brie or Gillian Jacobs at a normal television salary anymore. There is just not enough money to be able to pay for the show.

That started making the Internet rounds as "Community has been canceled!" but Yahoo hasn't canceled the show ... yet. Here's a statement from them (via Deadline): "We've seen tremendous value in our partnership with Sony and are continuing to discuss future opportunities for Community."

Joel also clarified his comments on Twitter:
Yahoo may make an official cancellation notice at some point, though. Showrunner Dan Harmon told The Hollywood Reporter that a movie is more likely to happen than Season 7, seeming to echo Joel's cast comments:

I think it has to do with talent contracts. We've got a lot of very talented people whose contracts have run out, and they get to explore the world and see what comes of it. In that kind of situation, anybody coming to those people and rounding them up like the Magnificent Seven and saying, 'Who wants to do a movie?' - I think the chance of getting a 'Yes' to that is much higher than, 'Who wants to come back to Vietnam - the war's not over yet.' I think the idea of a movie just sounds more fun and also sounds like it has a hard out in terms of schedule."

There was movie talk before Season 6 got the green light, so it's still possible Season 7 will happen (with new one-season contracts). If not, maybe there will be a fun full-cast movie. Or do you think they should just quit while they're ahead and let this be the end?

'Norm of the North' Trailer Adorably Shows How Awful Humans Can Be

Posted:

"Norm of The North" is the latest movie to remind humans that we are indeed the worst. This time the message comes via a fun animated comedy about an outcast polar bear (voiced by Rob Schneider) named Norm who heads to NYC with three lemming friends to try and stop humans from building luxury condos and shopping malls in the Arctic.

Sweet Norm doesn't fit in up north, since he's not much of a hunter, and he's also a bear out of water in the Big Apple. But he finds his calling on this mission to prevent tourists (from Florida - shudder!) from moving to the Arctic. And it looks like not all humans are awful, since Norm does make a friend who tries to help him.

The trailer is adorkably funny, and if this family film does well, expect to see those lemmings all over the place in their own toys and franchise. (Will they be -- "wait for it" -- the new Minions?)

"Norm of the North" is scheduled for release January 15, 2016.

Watch Kevin Bacon's Hilarious Plea for More Male Nudity in Hollywood

Posted:

Gentlemen, it is time to #FreeTheBacon. Kevin Bacon, like many men, is tired of the double standard in Hollywood that features women's naked bodies over and over while hiding their own glorious male beauty. Now that we've freed the nipple, can we please free the wiener? The actor makes his pitch in a Mashable PSA called "Free the Bacon."

As Kevin explains:

There's a big problem in Hollywood today. In so many films and TV shows, we see gratuitous female nudity. And that's not OK. Well, it's OK, but it's not fair to actresses, and it's not fair to actors -- because we want to be naked too. Gentlemen, it's time to free the bacon. And by bacon, of course, I mean your wiener, your balls, and your butt. 'Game of Thrones,' you've got three sex scenes an episode. How hard would it be to just show one or two wieners every couple of minutes? This is an issue of gender equality. Let me be on the show, c'mon! I'll play a naked wizard or something. I've done it before, have you seen 'Wild Things'? I was super naked in that. It was awesome."

Truth. And "Game of Thrones" is in obvious need of a naked wizard. Kevin also chided "Fifty Shades of Grey" for not showing Jamie Dornan's wiener, saying they should cast him as Christian Grey and the movie will just be a close-up of his penis. He also said he should be a naked Marvel superhero, joking that it's part of his contract that he has to be full-frontal nude in all of his movies, but the studios take the clause out. That kind of censorship is offensive!

Just watch, love, and offer your own bacon salute. You know Lenny Kravitz would approve.

Robert Downey Jr. Leads (Surprising) List of Highest Paid Actors 2015

Posted:

Avengers: Age Of Ultron Cast at Good Morning America NYChris Evans may be Captain America, but Robert Downey Jr. rules the world.

The "Iron Man" hero is No. 1 on Forbes' new list of the world's highest paid actors. RDJ ownage is nothing too new, since it's his third year in a row topping the charts. Thanks, Marvel! "The Avengers: Age of Ultron" star will probably be back on next year's list, too, after "Captain America: Civil War."

According to Forbes, "the 34 highest-paid actors, who hail from seven countries, earned a combined $941 million before taxes and fees between June 1, 2014 and June 1, 2015. Our list measures earnings before subtracting management fees and taxes; figures are based on data from Nielsen, Box Office Mojo and IMDB, as well as interviews with agents, managers, lawyers-and stars themselves." Six of the top 10 actors are from the United States, but this year -- for the first time -- Forbes also included actors working solely in international markets. As a result, 12 newcomers joined the overall rankings, including five from Bollywood.

A separate list of the highest paid actresses is coming later, but here are the top 10 money-making actors and the $$$ they made in the past year:

1. Robert Downey Jr. - $80 million
2. Jackie Chan - $50 million
3. Vin Diesel - $47 million
4. Bradley Cooper - $41.5 million
5. Adam Sandler - $41 million
6. Tom Cruise - $40 million
7. (two guys tied) Amitabh Bachchan - $33.5 million and Salman Khan - also $33.5 million
9. Akshay Kumar - $32.5 million
10. Mark Wahlberg - $32 million

Anyone else surprised to see Adam Sandler make that much? And if you're wondering about some of those names, Amitabh Bachchan is a 72-year-old film actor from India, Salman Khan is a 49-year-old actor from India, and Akshay Kumar is a 47-year-old actor from (yep) India.

Chris Pratt seems to be the man of the moment, but he hasn't quite made the top 10 20 30 yet. Dwayne Johnson came close, ranking at No. 11, followed by Johnny Depp (still?), Leonardo DiCaprio, Channing Tatum, Chris Hemsworth, Daniel Craig, Matthew McConaughey, Will Smith, Matt Damon, Hugh Jackman, Ben Affleck, Liam Neeson, Russell Crowe, Seth Rogen, Jonah Hill... the list goes on (Brad Pitt and George Clooney are way down on the chart, which is kind of a change), but Chris Pratt and Chris Evans don't show up until the 30s, which seems odd, considering their box office powers. Maybe next time?

Best of Late Night TV: Ryan Reynolds' Racy TV-MA 'Conan,' Craig Robinson Sings 'Chocolate Muffins'

Posted:

If you're like us and value your sleep, you probably nodded off into your Ambien dreamland before the party started on post-prime time TV. Don't worry; we've got you covered. Here's the best of what happened last night on late night.

By now, you may have seen the new unedited "Deadpool" red-band trailer, which debuted on "Conan" Tuesday night. Ryan Reynolds was the night's big guest and the whole show went TV-MA for the R-rated movie trailer. Conan said it was the first time ever in the history of the show for them to get that rating. The benefits of cable! "In other words, ladies and gentleman, tonight we can really f--king cut loose." (That had to be bleeped, though.) Andy Richter also openly gave Conan the finger instead of secretly giving it under his desk, like he normally does.

Did you know that Deadpool saved Conan's life? Watch that play out in the (hilarious) video below, which features panda tears and Conan's bony lack of a rear-end. ("Where's your ass?!" "It's not my fault!" "Medic!") Mr. Blake Lively had a lot to say during his "Conan" visit. He talked about being a father and how he was kind of a smartass to his own dad, taking a pic of his own penis with his dad's camera. (!) Ryan said his father used to take hundreds of photos of dumb things and e-mail them (using dial-up) to everyone. So one time, when Ryan was about 18, he grabbed the camera and went into the bathroom and took a dick pic. He just wanted to see if his dad would see and edit the photo before it went out. But nope -- it went out to everyone.

Speaking of TV-MA, Gordon Ramsay, Matilda Ramsay, Josh Charles, and Milky Chance were on "The Late Late Show with James Corden" and James said the last time Gordon was a guest, it was the most bleeped show they'd ever had. It had 27 bleeps, 19 of which were from Gordon. So Gordon and Josh both swore even more, and James proudly showed off the Idiot Sandwich meme that went viral after Gordon's chef sketch with Julie Chen.
Here's a must-see: "The Office" alum Craig Robinson performed a song called "Chocolate Muffins" on "Late Night with Seth Meyers," as part of the promotion for his new show "Mr. Robinson." "Damn, girl, it's getting hot in here from all this pre-heating..."

Kate Mara was on "The Tonight Show" -- she seemed a bit nervous -- and told Jimmy Fallon she found out she was cast in "Fantastic Four" via Twitter. So sometimes Twitter can be helpful! There's a clip from the movie in the video below. She also suggested anyone who hasn't seen "House of Cards" yet should just leave and go watch it. True.

The legend that is Don Rickles was on "The Tonight Show" and heckled Jimmy Fallon and The Roots. He just had a few backhanded compliments and constructive criticism.

Ryan Reynolds Loves His Swords In New 'Deadpool' Red-Band Trailer

Posted:

This movie needs to get into our eye holes now.

After making a very R-rated splash at Comic-Con this year, Ryan Reynolds debuted the new red band trailer for "Deadpool" on "Conan" Tuesday and it is everything fans could want.

Marvel's "Merc With the Mouth" is full of his trademark quips in the new trailer, which centers on Wade Wilson (Reynolds) being turned into a deadly weapon and forced to go all hack and slash on the bad guys that created him when they come calling. Lots of punching, shooting and (especially) stabbing ensues.

The red-band is slightly different from the footage screened at Comic-Con in July; some of the racier dialogue has been omitted (bummer), but more action-y goodness has been added (yea!).

Morena Baccarin ("Firefly") plays Wilson's love interest, Vanessa, better known to comic book fans as Copycat. "Silicon Valley's" T.J. Miller and Gina Carano ("Fast Six") also star.

The green-band trailer for the film will screen ahead of "Fantastic Four" this weekend.

"Deadpool" hits theaters February 12, 2016.
