This Summer's Best Action Scene, Fight Scene, Chase Sequence and More, According to The Geek Beat Posted: 25 Aug 2015 09:30 PM PDT Another summer movie season is ending, and even more than in past years, this summer's lineup was one to remember. This summer's film slate brought audiences to theaters in record numbers, pushing not one but two movies into the ranks of the ten highest-grossing films of all time in the U.S. (Avengers: Age of Ultron and Jurassic World), as well as adding three films to the list of the top ten films worldwide (Jurassic World, Avengers: Age of Ultron, and Furious 7). It also gave geeky movie fans a long list of memorable moments – both good and bad – that surprised us, made us cheer, and got us talking. With this epic summer of superhero, sci-fi, and fantasy fare now fading into the rearview mirror, it seemed appropriate to look back on it one last time before... Superman May Not Be Getting Another Solo Movie Any Time Soon Posted: 25 Aug 2015 08:00 PM PDT Even though it follows directly from the events of Man of Steel, next year's Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is not exactly a sequel. At least, it's not technically Man of Steel 2. We've heard Superman himself, Henry Cavill, make the claim, and late last week a rumor surfaced that Mad Max: Fury Road director George Miller is going to helm an actual Man of Steel 2. That sounded like Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment were making it up to the filmmaker after his plans for a Justice League movie fell through a while back. It's also been disappointing to a number of Mad Max fans who'd rather see him just do more of those movies for the rest of his life. Today, however, the rumormill is churning a different story. According to Den of Geek, Man of Steel 2 is on... Read More This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
The Next 'Blade' Movie Could Be About His Daughter Instead Posted: 25 Aug 2015 06:45 PM PDT Earlier this summer Blade star Wesley Snipes made some headlines when he mentioned having "really productive" meetings with Marvel about a project he wouldn't name. Naturally everyone made the leap that Snipes must be talking about starring in a new Blade movie, or perhaps the character making an appearance in one of the approximately 10,000 Marvel TV shows currently in the works. And now a rumor has emerged that would back that up, but with a bit of a twist. According to Bleeding Cool, Marvel Comics was going to launch a new print series that would focus on Blade's daughter. Here's their description of the comic. Fallon Grey is a sixteen year old girl from rural Oregon. Nominated for Prom Queen, Captain of the debate team, most popular girl in her class... You're Old: 'Bring It On' Came Put 15 Years Ago Posted: 25 Aug 2015 03:40 PM PDT Teen comedies have a reputation for being lousy. That's probably due to the large number of them that are lousy. So when one rises above the mediocrity, teens notice it, adults notice it, and before you can put the "duh" in "dumb," you've got yourself a cult favorite. That's what happened late in the summer of 2000, when Bring It On hit theaters and we all gladly joined the cheertatorship. The sunny, slightly satiric take on rival cheerleading squads boosted Kirsten Dunst's career, made Gabrielle Union a rising star, and introduced us to Peyton Reed, future director of Ant-Man. Oh, and it came out 15 years ago this week, which means it's time to put down the pom-poms and admit it: You're Old®... Read More This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |

New 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' Image: Kylo Ren Is Not Who You Think He Is Posted: 25 Aug 2015 01:07 PM PDT There are a lot of aspects of the upcoming Star Wars: The Force Awakens that fans are geeking out over, but perhaps none moreso than Kylo Ren's gnarly-lookin' broadsaber. What we know about this broadsaber is that it was most likely constructed by Kylo Ren himself, and it definitely looks as if it has this amateurish rough-around-the-edges vibe, especially in the way the light appears jagged and bursting out of the sides. You get a great new look at the broadsaber in the above image, just released by Empire Magazine to promote an upcoming issue that drops this Thursday and delves deeper into the film that arrives this December 18. And we're starting to learn a little more about the new Star Wars villain, too, as information slowly inches out ahead of release... Posted: 25 Aug 2015 12:00 PM PDT Gambit: Lea Seydoux, who co-stars in the upcoming James Bond adventure SPECTRE (above), has been offered the lead role in Gambit opposite Channing Tatum. The X-Men spinoff centers on a mutant who can control kinetic energy at will, making him an exceptional cardshark and thief. If things work out, Seydoux would play a longtime love with psychic powers who has a tempestuous relationship with Gambit over the years. [Deadline] The Girl on the Train: Haley Bennett (The Equalizer) has nabbed a key role in The Girl on the Train, the upcoming big-screen adaptation of the bestselling novel by Paula Hawkins. The psychological thriller is thrown into motion when a passenger on a commuter train (Emily Blunt) notices that a woman with whom her husband had an affair (Bennett) has...
