The Owner of the Iconic 'Goonies' House Has Had Enough With Your Nostalgia Posted: 19 Aug 2015 09:30 PM PDT Movie fans love to visit famous shooting locations. If you're visiting New York City and grew up in the '80s, you'll want to check out the Ghostbusters firehouse as much as the Empire State Building. Headed to Chicago? Check out nearby Maine North High School, seen in The Breakfast Club and Ferris Bueller's Day Off, in addition to Willis Tower (also seen in Ferris Bueller). But if you make a trip to Astoria, Oregon, feel free to visit the elementary school from Kindergarten Cop but stay away from the iconic house from The Goonies. The current owner of the place, an admitted lover of The Goonies who has been there since 2001, is so tired of fans showing up that she has covered much of her own abode with blue tarps. When Sandi... Read More This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
New on DVD/Blu-ray: Happy 20th Anniversary, 'Hackers'! Posted: 19 Aug 2015 08:30 PM PDT Do not deny its glory Hackers: For most people Hackers is a guilty pleasure movie, the kind they enjoy ironically and make fun of with friends. Not me. There's no guilt with how much I genuinely love this movie. I'm also not dumb. I understand completely why people think it's a big joke, but everything they knock is an aspect I love. For starters, it was a really forward-thinking movie, not just in its subject matter (cyber crime has only grown more and more popular), but in the way it depicts a distinctly non-cinematic world in vibrantly cinematic language. Sure the effects are heavily dated, but its swirling lines of computer code and rapid montage of typing keyboards set to throbbing EDM music is pure pop art that continues to be imitated to this day. Hackers also... Read More This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
Did You Know: Johnny Depp's Captain Jack Sparrow Was Originally Named After Another Actor? Posted: 19 Aug 2015 07:00 PM PDT This past weekend at Disney's D23 Expo, Johnny Depp surprised fans when he came dressed as Captain Jack Sparrow to promote the fifth installment of the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, due out on July 7, 2017. Here he is chummin' it up with Star Wars: The Force Awakens star Harrison Ford backstage. Caption this as you wish. A fun little tidbit regarding Captain Jack is that the character was originally named after another actor who screenwriter Stuart Beattie wanted for the role: Hugh Jackman. “I initially wrote that character with Hugh Jackman in mind,” he once told Fox News. “Hence the name Captain JACK Sparrow.” At the time, Jackman wasn't the international star that he... New 'The Martian' Trailer Threatens To Show Too Much Posted: 19 Aug 2015 03:30 PM PDT When the first trailer for The Martian hit, we freaked out a bit. Having read the terrific book by Andy Weir, it was thrilling to see that Ridley Scott's movie looked like it was indeed going to do it justice. We even wrote a post about why it could be one of the best movies of 2015. We ended that post with this: "...there's a much bigger story here, one that isn't easily spoiled. The trailer definitely hasn't spoiled it, but let's just hope all future marketing keeps it that way." Enter today's release of the second trailer for The Martian, which is snuggling up awfully close to severe spoiler territory. The problem isn't so much that it ruins things by showing you answers, rather that it spells out all of the questions that are going... 'The Witch' Trailer Promises One Hell of a Horror Movie Posted: 19 Aug 2015 02:00 PM PDT One of the most buzzed about movies from this year's Sundance Film Festival was The Witch, a horror movie about a family whose baby is abudcted in the wilderness of 17th century America. The raves came out strong and fast, proclaiming it one of the most unique horror movies not just of this year's festival, but in recent memory. Our own Erik Davis succinctly called it "the real deal," and writer-director Robert Eggers even took home the fest's highly coveted Directing Award. Sadly The Witch doesn't come out until 2016, so the first trailer below is about to make that wait a whole lot more painful. It's instantly obvious what everyone was raving about, and it certainly doesn't hurt that the trailer is peppered with praise from film critics. The... Movie News: See 'Suicide Squad' Tattoos; Amy Schumer's Next Comedy Eyes 'Warm Bodies' Director Posted: 19 Aug 2015 12:00 PM PDT Suicide Squad: Director David Ayer and actor Joel Kinnaman shared new photos from Suicide Squad, revealing Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie) as a pretty good tattoo artist -- as well as the tattoo itself, below -- and Will Smith as a not-very-good tattoo artist. Jai Courtney got into the act too (see his tattoo below). The villainous team-up movie is racing to theaters on August 5, 2016. [Collider] Amy Schumer: Hot off the success of Trainwreck (above), which has made more than $100 million worldwide, Amy Schumer wants Jonathan Levine (Warm Bodies) to direct her next comedy. Levine's credits include the upcoming The Night Before, with Seth Rogen, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, and Anthony Mackie, due out in November, so he looks to be a good fit for Schumer's...
