How 'The Hunger Games' Smuggled Politics and Revolution Into the Mainstream (and Got Away With it) Posted: 18 Nov 2015 09:00 PM PST You don't have to even like the Hunger Games movie series to appreciate the fact that it got away with murder. And while that is not a literal statement, it might as well be. Here is a massive movie series, based on a massive series of young adult books, that casually strolled into theaters and unleashed ideas, concepts, and images that would never fly in any other mainstream movie, let alone some of the most popular movies of the past five years. While most movies dodge controversy, bending over backwards until they snap their creative spine to avoid offending anyone, The Hunger Games and its sequels dared to challenge audiences with moral grayness. For a series of science fiction adventures marketed toward pre-teen girls, these movies sure did have a thing for forcing... Movie Trailers! Watch New Spots for 'Zoolander 2,' 'How to Be Single' and 'Exposed' Posted: 18 Nov 2015 07:30 PM PST A lot of hot trailers have arrived online today, and we've rounded up a few of the most essential right here: Zoolander 2 The sequel to the 2001 comedy reunites Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson as star models Derek Zoolander and Hansel, with Will Ferrell returning as the villainous fashion designer Mugatu. The trailer is as silly as you'd expect, with the lovable idiots misreading words, causing bodily harm to one another and flashing their signature expressions. The trailer also introduces us to some fun new characters played by Penelope Cruz, Kyle Mooney, and Kristen Wiig and Benedict Cumberbatch and a great cameo by Justin Bieber. Zoolander 2 hits theaters on February 12, 2016. How to Be Single Sometimes comedies are all about the... Read More This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
Watch: The First 'Now You See Me 2' Trailer Magically Appears Online Posted: 18 Nov 2015 05:30 PM PST Abracadabra! And they're back! Okay, that may not be very exciting in print. However, the Horsemen are returning for a second act, and if this first trailer for Now You See Me 2 (via Fandango Movieclips) is any indication, this one promises to be an even bigger and more magical spectacle than the first. Cast members Jesse Eisenberg, Mark Ruffalo, Dave Franco, Woody Harrelson, Morgan Freeman and Michael Caine all return to reprise their roles from Now You See Me. Joining the cast for the second installment are Lizzy Caplan (stepping in for Isla Fisher, who was unable to return due to her pregnancy) and Daniel Radcliffe, who already has a bit of experience in the magical arts up his sleeves. Watch the trailer below and don't miss Now You See Me... Read More This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
Alexandra Daddario Will Protect the Beaches In 'Baywatch' Posted: 18 Nov 2015 04:15 PM PST Time and dwindling cable reruns have turned Baywatch into hazy memories of a cheesy show from the early '90s where David Hasselhoff (who, by the way, officially changed his name to just David Hoff) stood around with a bronzed chest, staring into the ocean while Pamela Anderson jogged on the beach in slow motion and various other super attractive in swim suits stood around in gyms and beach huts dancing around the subject of how super attracted everyone is to each other. Occasionally they saved some dumb kid from drowning. Or maybe those memories aren't so hazy and that's pretty much exactly what Baywatch was like week in and week out for all 12 years (!) of its run. Either way, you can count on the movie having a bit more of a focused plot to it. Don't expect it... Read More This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |

Universal's Classic Monsters Updated: Here's the Plan Posted: 18 Nov 2015 01:30 PM PST New details have emerged about Universal's plans to reboot their classic monsters, starting with The Mummy. The most exciting aspect may be the studio's desire not to rush things. First announced in June 2014, writer-producers Alex Kurtzman (Transformers, Star Trek) and Chris Morgan (Fast & Furious) were placed in charge of the studio's plans for an "interconnected slate" of modern monster movies. Kurtzman and Morgan were to enlist creative talent and integrate any existing projects currently under development into a cohesive strategy. At that time, the reboot of The Mummy was scheduled for release on April 22, 2016. Shortly thereafter, Kurtzman entered final negotiations to direct The Mummy. Kurtzman and Morgan went to work. A few months later, we... Read More This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
Posted: 18 Nov 2015 12:00 PM PST Tomb Raider: Norwegian filmmaker Roar Uthaug, whose credits include recent disaster thriller The Wave and wintry slasher horror flick Cold Prey, will direct a new version of Tomb Raider (2001 version starring Angelina Jolie above). Evan Daugherty (Snow White and the Huntsman) wrote an earlier draft of the script, but now Geneva Robertson-Dworet (Transformers 5) is in negotiations to pen a new version. The movie will again revolve around archeologist Lara Croft, reportedly on her first adventure this time. [Heat Vision] Love May Fail: It looks like Emma Stone will star in Love May Fail, based on a recent novel by Matthew Quick (Silver Linings Playbook) that follows a woman whose marriage breaks up because of her cheating husband. Returning to her hometown, she takes up... Read More This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
