Val Kilmer Joins 'Top Gun 2,' Posts Confusing Facebook Status Posted: Val Kilmer caused quite a stir on social media this week when he insinuated that "Top Gun 2" was officially a go, and that he was 100 percent on board for the flick. Now, the actor has backtracked a bit on those claims, telling fans that he's only been offered a part in the potential follow-up -- which may or may not make it into theaters.
So, here's what we know so far: "Top Gun 2" is indeed in development; Kilmer has been offered the role (and presumably taken it, pending Cruise's involvement and an official greenlight); the film is not yet a sure thing; Cruise still has to sign on officially. And no, Coppola and Hackman are not involved. (Seriously, how did anyone make this mistake? Kilmer's post could have been better-written, sure, but those two would be really random choices to suddenly join this flick.) This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
Tina Fey & Amy Poehler Will Co-Host 'Saturday Night Live' Holiday Episode Posted: Today, in the Best News Ever: Former "Saturday Night Live" stars -- and our favorite famous BFFs -- Tina Fey and Amy Poehler are set to co-host "SNL"'s holiday episode in December, which will also mark the show's last installment of 2015. "SNL" announced the amazing news on Twitter, revealing the full slate of hosts for the following month. But it was Fey and Poehler's names that first caught our eye, and we can't wait to see them work their comedy magic on the Studio 8H stage again. The "Sisters" stars are slated to headline on December 19, supported by musical guest Bruce Springsteen. Before that, Ryan Gosling will stop by the show on December 5, alongside musical guest Leon Bridges. On December 12, Chris Hemsworth will play host, with Chance the Rapper appearing as musical guest. While Fey and Poehler have both returned to host "SNL" since they left the sketch show, this will be the first time that they co-host. And since they won't be back as emcees of the Golden Globes, this really is the next best thing -- and possibly even better. Remember their stint on Weekend Update? Remember their hilarious Sarah Palin and Hillary Clinton sketches from the 2008 election season? We can't wait to see more where that awesomeness came from. Former James Bond Pierce Brosnan Did Not Like 'Spectre' Posted: The latest James Bond outing, "Spectre," is a hit with crowds, but not so much with critics. Joining the latter camp is former 007 Pierce Brosnan, who revealed in a recent interview that he didn't really care for the newest Bond flick. Brosnan, who played the spy in four films between 1995 and 2000, told HitFix that he was initially excited to see "Spectre" -- but that excitement faded once he watched the film. "I was looking forward to it enormously," Brosnan told the site. "I thought it was too long. The story was kind of weak - it could have been condensed. It kind of went on too long. It really did." Despite his dislike for the film itself, Brosnan had nothing but praise for current franchise star Daniel Craig. The actor noted that Craig clearly has "ownership" of the iconic role in his fourth outing -- he just needs a better movie around him to really showcase his skills. "He's a mighty warrior, and I think he found a great sense of himself in this one with the one-liners and a nice playfulness there," Brosnan said of Craig. "Just get a tighter story, and he'll have another classic." That's if Craig sticks around for another film. The jury's still out on that one -- and on who'll replace him if he does leave -- but it's good to know that the actor has the support of one of his forebears. Paul Walker Shares Blame for His Death, Porsche Says in Lawsuit Filing Posted: Porshe is hitting back at the wrongful death lawsuit filed by Meadow Walker, the teenage daughter of the late Paul Walker, who is suing the automaker for negligence in its design of the vehicle in which her father was killed. According to the automaker, Paul Walker was intimately familiar with the car and knew the risks it posed -- and therefore could be considered partially responsible for his own death. TMZ shared Porshe's court filing -- the company's official answer to Meadow Walker's suit -- on Monday, which stated that Paul Walker was "a knowledgeable and sophisticated user of the 2005 Carrera GT." As such, the site said, Porsche maintains that Walker "should not have allowed or participated in a high-speed ride under the conditions that existed." "Porsche also takes issue with allegations that the car's design was defective," TMZ wrote of the filing. "The car company says 'the subject 2005 Carrera GT was abused and altered ...' The company added the car was 'misused and improperly maintained.'" Those comments echo similar statements that the automaker made when Meadow Walker's lawsuit was first filed back in September. Porsche cited authorities' ruling that the car -- driven by Paul Walker's friend, Roger Rodas, who was also killed in the crash -- was traveling at 90 mph, and that the crash "resulted from reckless driving and excessive speed." Rodas's widow has also filed a similar suit against Porsche, which is still pending. According to Porsche's filing this week, Walker could also share "comparative fault" with Rodas, meaning he was also responsible for his death. A representative for Meadow Walker released a statement to TMZ disputing that claim. 'Harry Potter': 10 Things You (Probably) Didn't Know About 'Goblet of Fire' Posted: Based on the middle book in J.K. Rowling's series, "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire" was a pivotal film in many ways. Released 10 years ago this week (on November 18, 2005), "Goblet" marked the first time Harry (Daniel Radcliffe) saw one of his friends die, the first time Voldemort (Ralph Fiennes) appeared in the flesh, and the first time we saw the young heroes of Hogwarts as hormonal teenagers. As often as you've watched "Goblet of Fire," there's a lot you still may not know about it -- from the surprising controversy over the all-star band at the Yule Ball, to the Easter eggs that less-than-sharp-eyed Muggle viewers may have missed. So dip into the Pensieve and learn the secrets of "Goblet of Fire."1. Screenwriter Steve Kloves and the producers initially considered making Rowling's 734-page book into two films. Since they decided instead to condense it into a single 2.5 hour movie, a lot of beloved subplots and characters had to go. Some fans were upset about the snipping of the subplot involving house elves Dobby and Winky. But if you pay close attention during the Death Eaters' attack near the beginning of the movie, you can see two house elves scurry past. 2. The streamlining also meant that "Goblet" was the first Potter picture that didn't open with Harry spending a miserable summer with his Muggle relatives, the Dursleys. Richard Griffiths and Fiona Shaw were miffed at having Uncle Vernon and Aunt Petunia cut from the story. Griffiths went to J.K. Rowling herself to plead for his inclusion -- maybe Uncle Vernon could visit Harry at Parent's Day at Hogwarts? Her polite response: "I don't think so." 3. The most arduous part of the shoot for Radcliffe was the underwater sequence. He spent six months training for the second Triwizard Tournament task and spent more than 40 hours shooting in a 500,000-gallon tank constructed for the film. For his trouble, he suffered two ear infections, but he said he felt the result on screen was worth it. 4. The supergroup performing at the Yule Ball -- which included Jarvis Cocker of Pulp and Jonny Greenwood and Phil Selway of Radiohead, should have been a much bigger deal. Initially called the Weird Sisters (after the witches in "Macbeth"), the band ran into a name conflict with a real-life Canadian band called Wyrd Sisters. The filmmakers asked the folk act for permission to use the variant of their name and offered them $5,000 but were turned down. As a result, the Yule Ball group goes unnamed in the movie, though in a deleted scene, the musicians are described as "the band that needs no introduction." 5. Harry and Ron's dates to the ball are the Patil twins, Parvati and Padma. The book describes them as identical twins, but the actresses who play them -- Shefali Chowdhury as Parvati and Afshan Azad as Padma -- are not related.6. It took almost three hours in the make-up chair to transform Ralph Fiennes (pictured) into Voldemort. His eyebrows were hidden with gelatin, fake teeth were added, and computer tracking dots were pasted onto his nose so that it could be digitally removed in post-production. Still, he only needed two days on the set to complete Voldemort's few scenes in "Goblet of Fire." 7. Bulgarian Quidditch star Viktor Krum (played by Bulgarian actor Stanislav Ianevski) looms large in the "Goblet" plot, but for all his screen time, he has only two lines of dialogue, amounting to just 20 words. 8. In keeping with the film's darker-than-usual tone, "Goblet" was the first of the "Potter" movies to earn a PG-13 rating. 9. About 37 minutes into the film, Dumbledore (Michael Gambon) can be seen wielding the rune-marked Elder Wand, a prop that will be a key plot point in the final film, "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2." 10. A line in the end credit scroll reads, "No dragons were harmed in the making of this movie." In case you were worried. This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
Denzel Washington to Receive Cecil B. DeMille Award at Golden Globes Posted: Denzel Washington will be honored with the Cecil B. DeMille lifetime achievement award at this year's Golden Globes. "Washington's long and storied career is earmarked by his countless roles in front and behind the camera," said Hollywood Foreign Press Association president Lorenzo Soria in a statement. The acclaimed 60-year-old actor has two Golden Globes, as well as two Academy Awards and a Tony, to his name for his performances. He won the best supporting actor trophy for "Glory" in 1989, and the best actor award for "The Hurricane" in 1999. Washington very notably lost out on winning for "Training Day," for which he went on to get an Oscar. He's been lauded for being one of Hollywood's finest actors, with memorable turns in "Cry Freedom," "Malcolm X," and "Philadelphia." He is currently filming "The Magnificent Seven" and "The Equalizer 2." The prestigious Cecil B. DeMille award most recently went to George Clooney last year. Want more stuff like this? Charlie Sheen Confirms He's HIV-Positive on 'Today Show' Posted: Charlie Sheen confirmed reports that he is HIV-positive on the "Today Show" this morning. "It's a hard three letters to absorb. It's a turning point in one's life," he told host Matt Lauer. The 50-year-old actor said he was announcing the news to end extortion attempts. He admitted that he was diagnosed four years ago and that since then, he's paid over $10 million to keep his illness a secret. "What people forget is that it's money taken from my children," he said. "I trusted them and they were deep in my inner circle, and I thought they could be helpful. My trust turned to their treason." Sheen is currently healthy. His doctor, Dr. Robert Huizenga, an associate professor of clinical medicine at UCLA, said they are more concerned about Sheen relapsing into substance abuse and not taking his medications. Sheen has told both of this ex-wives, Denise Richards and Brooke Mueller, as well as his eldest daughter. He hopes by coming forward, he will help dispel the stigma of having HIV. "I have a responsibility now to better myself and to help a lot of other people and hopefully with what we're doing today others will come forward and say, thanks Charlie." Want more stuff like this? Best of Late Night TV: Cate Blanchett's Lip Flip and James Corden's 'Late Late Show' Binge Posted: If you're like us and value your sleep, you probably nodded off into your Ambien dreamland before the party started on post-prime time TV. Don't worry; we've got you covered. Here's the best of what happened last night on late night. Let's get this party started with a game of Lip Flip on "The Tonight Show." Yeah, it's always weird and funny, but the addition of Cate Blanchett makes things particularly YAAAAAAS. Over on "The Late Show," Stephen Colbert attempted to convince Bill Maher to join catholicism. He was...uh...not into it. Prepare for awkwardness. Liam Hemsworth: actor, all around handsome dude, and really good purse carrier. The "Hunger Games" star visited "Jimmy Kimmel Live" and chatted about his visit to the Great Wall of China, where Jennifer Lawrence forced him to lug around her Valentino bag. The explanation? "Jen didn't want to carry her handbag anymore." Bless this man. Bless his heart. Speaking of Liam Hemsworth, his fellow "Hunger Games" star, Natalie Dormer, used the term "poor Liam Hemsworth" on "The Late Late Show," and was mocked mercilessly for it. Whatever, having a six pack and an Australian accent is hard, guys. Finally (and also on "The Late Late Show"), James Corden was so inspired by Shia LeBeouf's meta movie-watching extravaganza that he spent three days binging every single episode of his show. The results? Scary. This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
