Watch the Abandoned 'Blade Runner' Sequence That Will Be the Opening Scene of 'Blade Runner 2' Posted: 17 Nov 2015 10:00 PM PST Ridley Scott isn't actually directing Blade Runner 2 (he'll be too busy directing the sequel to another one of his movies), but he is producing it and was instrumental in bringing back Harrison Ford and getting new director Denis Villeneuve on board. His influence on the sci-fi sequel doesn't stop there, though. Apparently the new movie will actually use the original opening for his 1982 film. Normally we wouldn't be all that interested in sharing the opening scene of a movie that hasn't even begun filming yet, but this one is noteworthy because it was written 30+ years ago and never used. Scott even had the sequence storyboarded out, but they axed it before it ever went in front of cameras. Here's how the director described it when speaking recently at... Val Kilmer Confirms Iceman Will Return in 'Top Gun 2' Posted: 17 Nov 2015 09:00 PM PST Iceman may not play dangerously, but Val Kilmer does. He's just confirmed on Facebook he'll be returning for the long-promised Top Gun sequel, in spite of not reading the script first. What if it's not good? Oh wait, it's Top Gun 2, so it doesn't matter if it's good or bad. It's going to be huge either way. Presently, it's too soon to tell on our end, too, but we're also looking forward to it. Here's what we do know so far: Val Kilmer is indeed coming back In his Facebook post, Kilmer wrote: "I just got offered Top Gun 2 - not often you get to say 'yes' without reading the script ... Jerry Bruckheimer and Tom Cruise!!! 'Yes.' We will all miss Tony Scott, one of the kindest gentlemen I've ever met in the... 'Dazed and Confused' Spiritual Sequel, 'Everybody Wants Some,' to Open 2016 SXSW Film Festival Posted: 17 Nov 2015 07:30 PM PST Fans of Richard Linklater and his iconic dorm-room cult-favorite Dazed and Confused have been waiting a long time for Everybody Wants Some, deemed a sort of spiritual sequel to Dazed and Confused in that it tracks a group of kids on their first day of college in the '80s instead of their last day of high school in the '70s, a la Dazed. Now we know exactly how long we'll have to wait, as the 2016 SXSW Film Festival just announced Everybody Wants Some as its opening night film. The festival runs from March 11-19, while the film won't hit theaters till April 15. Inspired, of course, by the popular Van Halen song of the same name, Everybody Wants Some will chronicle the misadventures of a group of baseball players as they ready themselves for college in the 1980s... The 'Fast & Furious' Cinematic Universe Wants to Keep Growing With Spinoffs and Prequels Posted: 17 Nov 2015 04:30 PM PST Back in February of 2013, over two months before Fast & Furious 6 would even hit theaters, our own Erik Davis wrote an article titled Is the Fast & Furious Series Creating Its Own Marvel Universe for Bros? The actual movie totally confirmed his theory as it simultaneously brought in nearly every character from the franchise's past, introduced Jason Statham's new villain character and also revealed the true chronology of the franchise, retroactively making the third movie (the criminally underrated Tokyo Drift) into a sequel to the sixth movie. Now if there were still any doubt that Fast & Furious already has its own cinematic universe well underway, Vin Diesel has taken things one quarter-mile further by confirming that he and Universal... Whatever your story is, embrace it and let the fact that we're only one month away sink in. Here's one The Force Awakens character you haven't seen yet... Meet Constable Zuvio, described by Lucasfilm as a “tough and humorless vigilant law officer on a mostly lawless world” who “keeps order in a frontier trading post”. One... Posted: 17 Nov 2015 12:00 PM PST The Dark Tower: Matthew McConaughey is under consideration to star in The Dark Tower, based on the series by Stephen King. Reportedly, the actor has been offered his choice of roles, either the heroic Roland Deschain or the villainous 'Man in Black.' Nikolaj Arcel is set to direct the movie, which is envisioned as a franchise-starter that will also embrace a TV series; producers Ron Howard and Brian Grazer previously worked with McConaughey on 1999's EdTV. The Dark Tower is scheduled for release on January 13, 2017.
