11 Times Leonardo DiCaprio Should've Won an Oscar

Posted:

It's fall and that means one thing: time to listen to Christmas music start thinking about awards season. And, if there's one actor who pops to mind every time we think of awards season, it's Leonardo DiCaprio.

With five well-deserved Oscar nominations and zero wins, we only have one question: WTF, Academy?! If you really think about it, DiCaprio was basically born to win. Just add an "s" to his last name, remove and rearrange some of the letters, and what do you have? OSCAR. That is A+ logic right there.

So, members of the Academy who read Moviefone, we humbly submit for your consideration 11 times Leonardo DiCaprio was awesome at acting. If this doesn't win him a tiny gold statue, we don't know what will.

Benedict Cumberbatch Receives CBE Honor From Queen Elizabeth II

Posted:

Investitures at Buckingham PalaceBenedict Cumberbatch has become the newest member of the Order of the British Empire, receiving the distinguished CBE honor from Queen Elizabeth II on Tuesday.

Cumberbatch, whose selection as a CBE (Commander of the Order of the British Empire) was announced earlier this year, attended a ceremony at Buckingham Palace to receive the honor from the queen in between filming the title role in Marvel's "Doctor Strange," which he'll follow with production on the next season of the BBC's "Sherlock." The actor, who was recognized for both his acting as well as his charitable work, told the BBC that when he received the letter notifying him of his selection, he "thought there had been a mistake."

"It's fantastic, it's quite nerve-wracking, there is nothing really that prepares you for it," Cumberbatch said of the honor. "It's a unique occasion and I feel very privileged to be here and flattered to be recognised in this way."

The actor added that meeting the queen was a "wonderful" experience, and told the BBC that to "be honoured by her was extraordinary."

Cumberbatch was joined at the ceremony by his wife, Sophie Hunter. The pair welcomed a baby boy back in June.

FX Renews 'American Horror Story' for Season 6

Posted:

"American Horror Story" will live to scare again, with FX announcing that it has picked up the horror anthology series for a sixth installment.

"AHS," which is currently airing its fifth iteration, "Hotel," will return for another season sometime in 2016. The show has typically premiered around Halloween, though nothing is set in stone for season six just yet.

FX Networks CEO John Landgraf released the following statement announcing the news:

With the sixth installment coming next year, American Horror Story has unquestionably joined the ranks of television's landmark series. From 'Murder House' to 'Hotel,' 'AHS' has pioneered a new television form, as well as becoming FX's highest-rated show, while also pushing every conceivable boundary of creative excellence and audacity.

This is even more remarkable because Ryan and co-creator Brad Falchuk tear up the playbook every year, challenging the entire creative team to come up with something even more spectacular, frightful and entertaining. You could not ask more of an artist, their team or a series and with every new installment they deliver.

That high praise from network brass is certainly deserved, at least from a ratings standpoint, with the series doing gangbusters numbers for FX (including marking the network's highest-rated episode ever, with its season four "Freak Show" premiere). New addition Lady Gaga has also added lots of buzz to "Hotel," and may be back for season six, if her touring schedule can accommodate shooting.

"American Horror Story" is set to conclude its "Hotel" run in December.

Fox Reveals 2016 Winter Schedule, Lots of Midseason Changes

Posted:

NEW GIRL: Cast L-R: Damon Wayans, Jr., Jake Johnson, Zooey Deschanel, Max Greenfield, Hannah Simone and Lamorne Morris. The fourth season of NEW GIRL premieres Tuesday, Sept. 16 (9:00-9:30 PM ET/PT) on FOX. ©2013 Fox Broadcasting Co. Cr: Autumn DeWilde/FOXFox has unveiled its schedule for the upcoming winter TV season, and it's full of returning favorites, series debuts, and lots of timeslot switcheroos.

"American Idol" will be back for its final season with a two-night premiere on January 6 and January 7, bumping "Sleepy Hollow" from Thursdays to Fridays. "Bones," meanwhile, is missing from the schedule entirely, though we're guessing that Fox is holding out on assigning it a new timeslot until it sees how its freshman shows fare (and whether or not they get yanked, opening up a hole for "Bones" to fill). "The Last Man on Earth" is in a similar situation, we assume, and is off the schedule for now.

"New Girl," which was held for midseason to accommodate star Zooey Deschanel's pregnancy and maternity leave, will make its fifth season premiere on January 5, moving to the 8 p.m. Tuesday timeslot. There are plenty more changes on that night, with "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" switching from Sunday to Tuesday (its original night when it debuted in 2013), and both "The Grinder" and "Grandfathered" moving to new Tuesday slots to allow for that shift.

The complete Fox winter 2015 schedule is below.

7 Unforgettable Teen TV Show Theme Songs You Should Still Listen to, Ranked

Posted:

Show of hands if you spent a lot of college listening to Remy Zero or Paula Cole on your Winamp?

Okay, you can put your hands down. (We can't see them.) But, we can see why you opened up your ears to the aforementioned artists -- they blessed us with two of the best teen TV show theme songs in the history of time.

From "Smallville's" apt "Save Me," to "I Don't Want to Wait" from "Dawson's Creek," we've assembled more memorable themes you shouldn't feel embarrassed adding to your Spotify.

7. "My So-Called Life Theme" From "My So-Called Life" (1994 - 1995)
If high-school angst and nostalgia had theme music, this would be it. No lyrics, just all the feels.

6. 'Where You Lead" From "Gilmore Girls" (2000 - 2007)
The Gilmores arguably have the most "fall as f**k" theme ever made. Which probably explains why we never fast-forward through it during our binge watching sessions.

5. "I Don't Want to Wait" From "Dawson's Creek" (1998 - 2003)
It's a tragesty that Paula Cole's most famous song does not accompany the "Creek" on Netflix because streaming rights. (Don't even get us started on that ear cancer of a song being used in its place.) But, if you're lucky, you can occasionally hear Cole's original piping over the speakers of your local grocery store.

4. "Save Me" From "Smallville" (2001 - 2011)
We don't know what happened to Remy Zero either. But their legacy in the hall of fame of great WB show themes is secure.

3. "We Used to Be Friends" From "Veronica Mars" (2004 - 2007)
This excellent show did so many good things, but one of the best was introduce us to the Dandy Warhols.

2. "Here With Me" From "Roswell" (1999 - 2002)
One of the few themes on this list to get actual radio play, "Here With Me" helped put a pre-"Thank You" Dido on the map.

1. "California" From "The O.C." (2003 - 2007)
What -- You were expecting something else? *shakes head

'The Walking Dead' Adds Jeffrey Dean Morgan as Villain Negan

Posted:

Premiere Of Marvel's WARNING: This post contains SPOILERS about "The Walking Dead" TV show and comics. Read on at your own risk.

"The Walking Dead" has officially cast one of the biggest villains from the show's source comics, with Jeffrey Dean Morgan joining the series as Negan.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the character is set to make his debut during the season six finale, setting up a long arc for the f-bomb-loving antagonist. Negan is the leader of a group known as The Saviors, which begins taking over other isolated communities -- including Alexandria -- through the use of brutal force and intimidation.

Negan's arrival had been anticipated for some time by fans of the comics, though recent events on the series have called his iconic introduction into question. In the comics, Negan kills Glenn in a shocking, bloody scene. As viewers know, Glenn's fate is currently up in the air, as he may or may not have been disemboweled by a pack of walkers.

If Glenn's dead, that could anger comics fans, since it would mean Negan's arrival would have less shock value. If he's alive, well, he's not long for this world. (If showrunners intend to follow the comics' lead, that is.)

THR reports that Morgan beat out a bunch of other big names for the part, including Timothy Olyphant, Matt Dillon, and Garret Dillahunt. Production on the season six finale begins this week in Atlanta.

The episode is currently scheduled to air in April 2016.

Posted:

They're not doctors, but they've played ones on TV. And of course they happen to be ridiculously good looking. Yes, the medical show is a tried-and-true staple of TV programming, and we have yet to see a series that casts less-than-stunning humans to play pretend practice in their hospitals. Oh, Hollywood, you continue to impose unrealistic standards. It's just not fair! Our general practitioner looks nothing like George Clooney...

There's been lots of fictional physician eye candy to raise our temperatures over the years. Take a look back at 15 of the hottest TV doctors of all time, STAT.

Terminally Ill 'Star Wars' Fan Who Saw 'The Force Awakens' Early Has Died

Posted:

Force for DanielMay the force be with Daniel Fleetwood always.

Just days after Fleetwood, a huge "Star Wars fan," got to see "The Force Awakens" in a special early screening, he passed away. His wife, Ashley, posted the sad news on Facebook:

Daniel put up an amazing fight to the very end. He is now one with God and with the force. He passed in his sleep and in peace. He will always be my idol and my hero. Please hug uncle Marc for me and give Lucy lots of kisses. Rest in peace my love. This was the last selfie we ever took together. ‪#forcefordaniel‬

Fleetwood was diganosed with spindle cell sarcoma and was not expected to survive until the December 18th opening of "The Force Awakens." Friends and family members began an online campaign -#forcefordaniel - which became viral and received the notice of Disney and Lucasfilm. Director J.J. Abrams personally called Fleetwood to let him know he'd be able to see an unedited version of the film in his home.

"[I]n the amazing typical Disney way, they really do make dreams come true!" Ashley wrote on Facebook of the visit.

Our condolences to Daniel's loved ones.

Final 'Jessica Jones' Trailer Is Full of Adrenaline

Posted:

Jessica Jones"Jessica Jones" might be small, but she can drink you under the table AND throw you across the bar with one hand.

Netflix has released the final, full trailer for its upcoming Marvel series, and it's a doozy. We've been enjoying the little teasers that have come out so far, which helped set the mood and atmosphere of the show. Now, this trailer gives us more insight into the plot and characters. Jessica (Krysten Ritter) is a disgraced, disillusioned superhero who is trying to escape painful memories by opening a detective agency.
But the past comes back to haunt her, as her secret is discovered by friend Luke Cage (Mike Colter) and mind-reading enemy Kilgrave (David Tenannt). Jessica has to embrace her abilities to make sure nobody else dies on her watch.

The series looks dark and gritty in a very appealing way, and Ritter has always been a master at tossing out sarcastic barbs. Jessica Jones, we might be in love.

All 13 episodes of "Jessica Jones" will be available to stream on Netflix November 20.

Finding DoryAt last!

The first trailer for the long-awaited "Finding Dory," the sequel to 2003's smash hit "Finding Nemo," finally debuted on "The Ellen Show" this morning. And "Dory" looks just as lovable, quirky, and gently humorous as "Nemo."

Though it's been a dozen years since "Nemo," it's only been six months in the movie timeline. Dory (Ellen DeGeneres) is still living with clownfish friends Martin (Albert Brooks) and son Nemo. But soon, she starts sleep-swimming and recalling old memories. Yes, Dory can remember!
She experiences memories of her family, and with Martin and Nemo's help, sets off on a grand adventure to discover her past. Pixar has previously revealed that some of the movie will be set at the Monterey Marine Life Institute, and that Dory will meet with new characters, including a beluga whale, whale shark, and octopus.

"Finding Dory" opens in theaters June 17, 2016.

Best of Late Night TV: Alanis Morissette's Updated 'Ironic' and Nick Offerman's Fatty Meats

Posted:

If you're like us and value your sleep, you probably nodded off into your Ambien dreamland before the party started on post-prime time TV. Don't worry; we've got you covered. Here's the best of what happened last night on late night.

Let's get this late night party started with "Modern Family's" Ty Burrell, who spent his time on "Jimmy Kimmel Live" selling Mary Kay products / recruiting Kimmel's employees to join his makeup squad (a squad even cooler than that of Taylor Swift). The biggest takeaway from this sketch: Mary Kay is still a thing people use. Who knew?

More importantly (no offense, Ty), Jimmy Kimmel pitched to "Shark Tank." His brilliant idea? The Kid Cone. Essentially, a giant cone you shove on your child for their own safety. What could go wrong? (Also, his other idea was "hats for fruit" - we don't want to talk about it.)

Over on "Late Night," Kathy Griffin had a few things to say about Republican presidential candidate Ben Carson. And none of them were good, guys. None of them were good.
Jimmy Fallon spent some free-time chatting about Oprah's list of favorite things (AS HE SHOULD), and Nick Offerman joined him to read some of the more ridiculous descriptions aloud. And by "ridiculous," we mean INSPIRATIONAL.

Also, Nick shared his favorite fatty meats for Fall - including a pig fed a diet of only turduckens. That is all. Bless this man.
Meanwhile, several amazing things happened on "The Late Late Show," the best of which was Alanis Morissette singing "Ironic" with a new set of contemporary lyrics. Gems include "it's like swiping left on your future soulmate," and "it's like Netflix but your Uber's down the street."

Last, and definitely best, Conan played Fallout 4 while wearing an amazing costume. He definitely killed himself within five minutes, but you know. Worth it.
