Rumor Patrol: A Casting Call Claims These Are the Heroes of 'Avengers: Infinity War'

Posted: 21 Dec 2016 09:00 PM PST

Today brings some fresh Marvel rumors, so make sure you've got fistfuls of salt grains ready to take alongside this potential news. It comes from MovieCastingCall.org, a resource for actors to get info about upcoming productions. According to an old, but recently discovered post on their site, a few weeks ago Disney held an open casting call for Avengers: Infinity War and its sequel, which are filming simultaneously. As is often the case with casting calls, they include information about the production to lure in as many hopeful applicants as possible. And in this particular case, that info was a role call of Marvel heroes, some of whom you may not have expected to be in Infinity War. It includes: Thor (Chris Hemsworth) Thanos (Josh Brolin) Star-Lord / Peter...

Legendary Reportedly Wants Denis Villeneuve to Direct 'Dune'

Posted: 21 Dec 2016 07:30 PM PST

Apparently this is the week of Denis Villeneuve news. It started with images from Blade Runner 2049. Then we got the teaser trailer, plus a few choice quotes about the film's rating and lack of green screen sets. But now we've got some non-Blade Runner Villeneuve news. Legendary wants him to direct Dune. The studio acquired the rights to Dune just a few weeks ago, but now Variety reports the studio is in early talks with Villeneuve to direct it. That's kind of a dream come true for the Arrival director, who has previously said he had a longstanding dream to adapt Dune. Villeneuve knew that it was a bit of a pipe dream, though, since the rights to the sci-fi epic were out of reach. Now Legendary is serving them up to him on a silver platter. Before you get too...

Wes Anderson Teases His Next Movie While Promoting Film Preservation

Posted: 21 Dec 2016 06:00 PM PST

Wes Anderson just started shooting his next movie, Isle of Dogs, this week, and he's already got some footage to share. Of course, this is another stop-motion effort, like his Fantastic Mr. Fox, so the clip is barely a second long. In it, we meet Rex, a dog who'll be voiced by Edward Norton, and whom is apparently one of the main characters.  You can find that footage within a new video of Anderson introducing the animated feature and naming the incredible voice cast, including Norton, Bill Murray, Scarlett Johansson, Jeff Goldblum, Bryan Cranston, Tilda Swinton, Frances McDormand, Yoko Ono and Greta Gerwig. Norton also literally pops his head in to help out with the sneak peek.  The video isn't just to promote Isle of Dogs. This is also an...

'Blade Runner 2049' Director Says They Rarely Used a Green Screen On Set

Posted: 21 Dec 2016 04:00 PM PST

Fret not, worrisome humans, when Blade Runner 2049 hits theaters next year replicants will be hunted down with all the gritty luxury that an R rating affords. Granted it shouldn't be bombshell news that a sequel to an R-rated movie is also rated R, but we live in an age where such things are no longer guarantees. The more expensive a movie is, the harder it becomes to justify its R rating. This is why movies like Alien vs Predator and Live Free or Die Hard opted for tamer PG-13 ratings. But rating concerns are shifting these days. R ratings are no longer seen as a shackle to a film's potential box office. In some cases, it's even seen as a boon. Deadpool is the most cited example, but it's hardly the first movie to use the rating to earn some word of mouth cred...
