'Jurassic World' Sequel Adds 'The Get Down' Star Justice Smith: Report Posted: "The Get Down" star Justice Smith may soon be doing more screaming and running than making music. The actor has reportedly been cast in the upcoming "Jurassic World" sequel. Sources tell Variety that he'll join stars Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard in the dinosaur action flick as a young scientist. Smith's fellow newcomers include Rafe Spall and Toby Jones. "Jurassic World 2" has T. rex-sized shoes to fill. Its predecessor was a box office mega-hit in 2015, drawing in more than $208.8 million in its domestic debut alone, according to Box Office Mojo data. It went on to gross $1.67 billion worldwide. Clearly, everyone loves rampaging prehistoric creatures. The sci-fi sequel will be quite a departure from Smith's role on the Netflix music series "The Get Down," but his past work makes us think he can handle it. The film will be directed by J.A. Bayona, who is working from a script by "Jurassic World" director Colin Trevorrow and Derek Connolly. The "Jurassic World" sequel is slated for release on June 22, 2018. 'Harry Potter and the Cursed Child' Inches Closer to Broadway Posted: Potterheads living outside the U.K. have had to rely on planes, trains, and enchanted automobiles to get to a showing of "Harry Potter and the Cursed Child," but that will hopefully soon change. Play producers Sonia Friedman and Colin Callendar revealed Thursday that they are negotiating a Broadway run with Ambassador Theatre Group, according to the Hollywood Reporter. The talks are said to be "advanced," and the hit production could open in spring 2018. Its venue would be ATG's Lyric Theatre, which is slated to undergo renovations before then. Potter creator J.K. Rowling seems as enthused as her fans do about the latest development. "I'm delighted we are one step closer in bringing 'Harry Potter and the Cursed Child' to Broadway and very excited by the proposed plans," she said.
Rowling has been deeply involved with "Harry Potter and the Cursed Child" since the beginning. The author came up with the story idea alongside playwright Jack Thorne and director John Tiffany. What they created is a two-part, five-plus-hour show that continues the story of the beloved characters Harry, Hermione, and Ron, 19 years after the massive battle that took place in "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows." The play has proven popular in London's West End, so that should help pave its way to Broadway. If only we could use a Time Turner to get us to spring 2018 right now, though. Netflix's 'Seven Seconds' Lands 'American Crime' Star Regina King Posted: If it ain't broke, don't fix it. A crime drama worked for Regina King for "American Crime" (just look at her Emmy win), so it's no wonder she is sticking with the genre, at least for now. The actress is set to star in the upcoming Netflix series "Seven Seconds," reports Variety. The show will center on the aftermath of an injury-inducing incident involving a police officer and an African-American teenage boy in Jersey City. Tension will escalate in the community, but the incident will hit particularly close to home for King's character. As Latrice Butler, she'll be the mother of the injured teen, Brenton. What she learns about her son in the aftermath will shock her, not to mention affect her life and her marriage. King's co-stars include David Lyons, Michael Mosley, and Patrick Murney, and they'll be directed by Veena Sud. The "Seven Seconds" premiere date has not yet been announced, but 10 episodes are on the way. [via: Variety] This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
New 'Mummy' Teaser Welcomes You to a 'World of Gods and Monsters' Posted: There's a scary lady on the loose in the new teaser for "The Mummy." Universal Pictures shared the 15-second preview Thursday, and it promises "a new world of gods and monsters." The scariest of the lot seems to be the titular mummy (Sofia Boutella), an ancient princess whose terrifying evil has grown since her death millennia ago. Just look at her eyes in the trailer below -- you can't blame Tom Cruise's character for being horrified. The reason the mummy is so worked up is because her destiny was snatched away. She's clearly ready to make someone pay. Directed by Alex Kurtzman, "The Mummy" will reboot the original franchise, which launched way back in 1932. With all that history, the cast should be feeling the pressure to do the film's predecessors justice. However, they're a talented bunch -- Cruise and Boutella are joined by Annabelle Wallis, Courtney B. Vance, Jake Johnson, and Russell Crowe -- so they seem up to the challenge. "The Mummy" opens on June 9. This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
Here Are the 2016 Critics' Choice Awards Movie Nominations Posted: "La La Land" is having a good week: After scooping up the best film prize from the New York Film Critics Circle, the musical has also landed a whopping 12 nominations from the Critics' Choice Awards. The Broadcast Film Critics Association, which hands out the Critics' Choice Awards, released its nomination slate hailing the best films of 2016, and like the NYFCC, it also shared the love among a large number of movies -- many of them from wildly different genres. While other recently-hailed critical favorites like "Moonlight" (which came in second to "La La Land" with 10 Critics' Choice nominations) were well-represented, recognition was also given to flicks like "Deadpool," "Captain America: Civil War," "Suicide Squad," and "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice." According to Variety, the genre categories (comedy, action, and sci-fi/horror), which were added several years ago, are intended to amp up the awards' star power. With actors like Meryl Streep, Scarlett Johansson, Matt Damon, Dwayne Johnson, and Margot Robbie all represented this year, it certainly appears that that aim has been met. The full list of nominations for the Critics' Choice Awards movie categories is below. (The television nominees were announced last month.) The 'Full House' Creator Bought the Tanners' San Francisco House, May Use It for 'Fuller House' Posted: In what's probably the most perfect pairing of a house and buyer in recent memory, it was just revealed that "Full House" creator Jeff Franklin has purchased the iconic San Francisco home that stood in for the exterior of the Tanners' house on the sitcom. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Franklin revealed that he snapped up the listing for about $4 million in a deal that closed this fall. The 1883 Victorian, located in San Francisco's Pacific Heights neighborhood, had recently gone on the market as a rental. Franklin visited San Francisco earlier this year, according to his Twitter feed, and apparently fell in love with the property all over again.
"The house came on the market and really, I just thought, I have to buy this house," Franklin told THR. "I'm so sentimental about the house. It's great to have the house in our Full House family and be able to preserve it for the fans. ... Seriously, I love owning this house." The producer, who also oversees Netflix's "Full House" sequel series "Fuller House," also revealed that he plans on transforming the inside of the home -- which looks nothing like the Tanner/Fuller residence in real life -- to more closely resemble what fans see on television, and perhaps one day even filming "Fuller House" scenes there. He's already repainted the exterior -- which had undergone several color makeovers since the '90s heyday of "Full House" -- and most importantly, replaced its most recent seafoam green door with the show's familiar red door. Franklin is waiting on Netflix to hear if "Fuller House" has been renewed, but regardless of whether or not he'll get to involve the cast in his new purchase (he's got big plans for "Full House"'s 30th anniversary in 2017), he's happy to have it for fans' sake. "There are probably 250 fans per day that show up and take a picture in front of it," Franklin told the trade. "It will be a lot more fun for the fans because now the house will look like the Tanners really live there. It's a gift to the fans but it's also fun for me to own it." 'Sons of Anarchy' Spinoff 'Mayans MC' Coming to FX Posted: After more than a year in development, FX is finally moving forward on a "Sons of Anarchy" spinoff, ordering a pilot for "Mayans MC." The series will focus on the Mayans, a rival biker gang that made trouble for SAMCRO on "Sons." According to Deadline, "Mayans MC" will be set shortly after the events of the 2014 "Sons" series finale, and will highlight "the struggles of EZ Reyes, a prospect in the Mayan MC charter on the California/Mexico border." "Sons" creator Kurt Sutter is co-creating the project with Elgin James, and the pair will also co-produce the series. James has had a fascinating life so far, seguing from a tough Boston gang to the Sundance Institute. His debut feature, "Little Birds," premiered in competition at the Sundance Film Festival in 2011, and went on to win a National Board of Review Award; only a few months later, he was serving a one-year jail sentence for gang-related extortion charges. "I wanted to find a strong, unique Latino voice," New Jersey native Sutter said back in May about his collaboration with James. "Because I didn't think a white guy from Jersey should be writing about Latin culture and traditions. Elgin is that voice." Production on the "Mayans MC" pilot is set to begin in March 2017. 'La La Land' Nabs Best Film Prize from New York Film Critics Circle Posted: "La La Land" just nabbed its biggest accolade yet: The best picture prize from the New York Film Critics Circle. The acclaimed musical from "Whiplash" writer-director Damien Chazelle, which stars Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone, was honored with the NYFCC's top prize among 2016 films, though the critics group spread the love among many other movies for the rest of its honors. "Moonlight" and "Manchester by the Sea," which have both been hailed with their own best film awards by other organizations in recent weeks, each earned three prizes from the NYFCC. It should be interesting to see how the Oscar nominations line up with the NYFCC's picks, especially considering that last year's best film winner, "Carol," did not go on to earn a Best Picture citation from the Academy. But "La La Land" has plenty of buzz in its corner (critics were hailing the flick as an early Oscar frontrunner as far back as September), and with this newest accolade under its belt, it doesn't look like the film will be slowing down its awards momentum anytime soon. The full list of winners hailed by the NYFCC is below. The prizes will be handed out at a ceremony in New York City in January.

This Fan Fixed the 'Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life' Opening Credits Posted: Is "Gilmore Girls" really "Gilmore Girls" without Carole King's theme song intro? The Netflix revival "Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life" gave a cameo to Carole King herself, but ditched the musical opening, only bringing back "Where You Lead" for the end credits of "Fall." It just wasn't the same. But don't cry into your popcorn bowl just yet, 'cause a YouTuber named "rose tyler" created a new intro, reviving King's "Where You Lead" and setting it to images from the four-part return:Thank you! Yes, that should've played before each episode. It's not the only complaint fans have had about the Netflix revival, but it's the first one many voiced -- since fans expected That Song to welcome them back to Stars Hollow. Where it leads, we follow! Music has always been a big part of "Gilmore Girls"; Sam Phillips talked to the L.A. Times about creating "strange little micro songs" for the revival, also answering the question, "What came first: your score or the decision to use Carole King's song for the theme song?" Here's her answer:
Maybe if Netflix does bring us back to Stars Hollow, we can have both a musical score and that theme song intro. [via: Cosmopolitan] Want more stuff like this? Like us on Facebook. This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
Surprise! Morgan Willett Won 'Big Brother: OTT' Over Jason Roy Posted: UPDATE: Um. Never mind! We were sure Jason Roy would win "Big Brother: Over the Top" (see below) but Morgan Willett won by what was billed as 20,000 votes. Are you shocked? Happy? Disappointed? Is this on the level of Nicole beating Paul in BB18, or completely different?
Original post: Jason Roy is about to win enough money to finally move out of his mother's basement. "Big Brother: Over the Top" -- the CBS All Access digital stepcousin of "Big Brother" -- is ending tonight, with America choosing the winner from these three finalists:
That ranking is very likely how things are going to turn out. Kryssie is almost certain to be third place, with the $250,000 win coming down to "Big Brother 17" veteran Jason vs. sister soldier Morgan. Executive producer Allison Grodner claims there have been "really close votes" this season, but the superfan veteran is probably going to win. Because the "America" that is voting is a niche group of superfans and veterans who -- for multiple reasons -- will skew the vote to Jason over Morgan.
This seems predictable, but also surprising. The BBOTT crew knew America would have a large role this season, and they knew Jason was a BB17 veteran, so why didn't they target him when they had the chance? Jason did win the Power of Veto a few times, and he did have some help from America, but that was also a sign that he should probably be targeted before he got far enough to win whole thing. Then again, the Houseguests didn't know from Day 1 that America voted in Jason over Jozea. But they knew enough to realize he was a threat on a season with so much power being directed from people at home. Jason came into the house with more than 60,000 Twitter followers and the backing of "Big Brother" veterans. Morgan had her sister Alex in the house, which was its own advantage, but she and her alliance were the underdogs. It's easy to root for underdogs, but they are underdogs for a reason: It's unlikely they will defeat Goliath. Many fans wish Shelby Stockton had made the finals, and Shelby is part of
But so much of the BB fan base is Team Jason, and not just because he's a veteran. It's also because he's a superfan who played hard the whole season and winning "Big Brother" is his dream. Yeah, he's a trash-talker and his attitude can be annoying, but if this comes down to strategic gameplay, the win will probably go to Jason. And if it comes down to popularity, the win will probably go to Jason. There's only a sliver of underdog hope that the win will go to the sweet, less strategic, non-superfan Morgan, but we've seen elections go the other way before. Julie Chen is hosting tonight's (Thursday, December 1) live finale at 8 p.m. ET on CBS All Access. Want more stuff like this? Like us on Facebook. Why Tilda Swinton Doesn't Like Harry Potter Posted: Is it even legal to dislike Harry Potter? Actress/icon/goddess we don't deserve Tilda Swinton took a rare stand against Harry Potter -- or at least one aspect of it -- in a Scots Magazine interview. The Scotland resident was not asked about J.K. Rowling's series, it seems, but rather about her own upbringing and role as a mother of two; she only dragged Potter into the interview to challenge its romanticizing of boarding schools like Hogwarts.Swinton told the magazine parenthood has made her "more disciplined and less lazy and irresponsible," adding, "I can't just take off and do anything I want to anymore which is a good and a bad thing, I suppose!"In terms of her own upbringing, the London-born Swinton went to swanky West Heath's Girls's School (fun fact: Princess Diana was a classmate and friend) and then Fettes College boarding school. She has spoken before about hating her boarding school experience, telling Scots it was "hell" and "a very lonely and isolating environment." Here's where Harry Potter comes in:
From that perspective, fair enough, although Hogwarts was the only place an orphan like Harry Potter felt real love. It was home for him. But, yeah, those of us who longed to get an owl-delivered letter from Hogwarts at age 11 would do well to remember that real boarding schools are often less than magical. But still. It would be fun to join a Quidditch team. Want more stuff like this? Like us on Facebook. This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
'Sing' Exclusive Clip: This Punk-Rock Porcupine Isn't Calling Anyone Posted: This punk-rock porcupine is not calling anyone, and there's no "maybe" about it. In the animated movie "Sing," Ash (Scarlett Johansson) is taking part in the singing contest put on by koala / theater owner Buster (Matthew McConaughey). Sure, she left her band after finding out her ex-boyfriend cheated on her, but just because she's doing this competition doesn't mean she'll sing anything. In this exclusive clip, Buster suggests a very popular song: Carly Rae Jepsen's "Call Me Maybe." But Ash isn't having it. "I'm not singing this," she flatly tells Buster. But the koala thinks it's perfect for a young teen singer like her. "Wow, it's like you can see inside my tiny teenage mind," a sarcastic Ash snarks at him. Will Buster be able to change her mind with his rendition of the tune, maybe? "Sing" opens in theaters everywhere December 21. Want more stuff like this? Like us on Facebook. Watch Pixar's 'Cars' Characters Morph From Their Real Car Models Posted: Are you ready for more sweet rides? Yeah, the first teaser for "Cars 3" was surprisingly dark, but Disney/Pixar wouldn't have cooked up three films if fans weren't hungry for the main ingredient: seriously cool cars. The folks over at Gearheads.org had some fun with those cars, showing how the "Cars" characters were shaped by their real-life counterparts. Check out their cool graphics: Lightning McQueen: based largely on a Chevy Corvette C6 "Cars 3" is scheduled for release in theaters June 16, 2017. Want more stuff like this? Like us on Facebook. Lauren Graham: 'Gilmore Girls' Stars 'Don't Pay Attention' to Revival Backlash Posted: Paul is not the only one the Gilmore girls have chosen to ignore. They are also turning the volume way down on any criticism of the Netflix revival, "Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life." Many fans loved the four-part return, and their only criticism is that they're not guaranteed to get more. But others were disappointed, feeling that the revival lost a bit of the old spark. Some called out Rory (Alexis Bledel), Lorelai (Lauren Graham), and the gang for occasionally coming across as selfish and mean-spirited, aka "kind of awful sometimes." That's how the moderator put it when stars Graham, Bledel, Scott Patterson (Luke), and Kelly Bishop (Emily) discussed the return during a recent panel discussion. The moderator referenced Rory's "boyfriend" Paul -- who is constantly forgotten, and cheated on -- and noted that, overall, "There's been a bit more of a backlash against their characters this time around." Lauren Graham responded to that for the foursome (via People):
Patterson quipped, "Paul was a sacrificial lamb, and he knew it! The audience knew it!" Bledel and Bishop also discussed not always agreeing with their characters's behavior and decisions. There's no reason why they should always agree with them. Do you always agree with your past decisions? Most characters on TV are not meant to be perfect, and Rory cheating or being The Other Woman isn't exactly new, even if it's still disappointing. If some fans wanted more from the "Gilmore Girls" revival, that just shows how much they care and the high standard to which they hold such a classic series. And it's not like the actors themselves wrote the scripts, or could do anything about them at this point, so it's probably wise for them to keep the criticism at arm's length. Why Milo Ventimiglia Credits Will Smith for Helping Him Be a 'Good Man' Posted: Is it too late to name Milo Ventimiglia co-Sexiest Man Alive? He is having the best year -- from playing ideal husband/father Jack in "This Is Us" to returning as Rory's ideal partner (she'll figure it out) Jess in "Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life." The 39-year-old actor just had a heartwarming Q&A with Interview, during which Will Smith got a surprising name-drop, and heaps of praise. Interview noted that Ventimiglia's first credited role was Party Guest #1 on "The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air" back in 1995. Here's the star's response when asked, "What was it like on that set?"
Such a class act. By the way, here's what comes up when you Google that:It's amazing that Ventimiglia could soak up so much just from being on set for that one (super cheesy) scene, but that's what happens when you maximize every experience. Speaking of maximizing experiences -- all "This Is Us" fans have learned to keep tissues on standby, and you may need them again for the section of Ventimiglia's interview when he talks about his own father. He was asked if there was anything from his own family he could draw on for the role of Jack, and here's his response:
That's so sweet. It certainly helps to have strong influences when you're young. Will Smith should be proud that he had anything to do with keeping Ventimiglia on this "good man" path. Keep it up!

'Survivor' Adam Honors Mother Who Died From Lung Cancer Two Days After Filming Posted: "Survivor: Millennials vs. Gen X" castaway Adam Klein had a fantastic episode last night -- giving away his advantage instead of using it in the loved one's visit, winning immunity, and even playing an idol to cement his alliance's loyalty (and steal Will's thunder). But even if the 25-year-old goes on to win the whole season, it will be bittersweet. Adam's mother, Susie, died from Stage IV lung cancer on Saturday, May 14, 2016, which was just a couple of days after "Survivor" finished filming this season. Adam is now raising money for the #LiveLikeSusie Memorial Fund for Lung Cancer Research on YouCaring.com. The current fundraising total is $36,457 of a $50,000 goal.In late October, Adam posted an update to the fundraising page, sharing more of his Mother & Son story with Susie, including that they were almost cast as partners on a "Blood vs Water" season before she was diagnosed:
Head to the donation page for more details or to support the fund.Meanwhile, we still need to find out Adam's fate on the show. Jeff Probst teased a double elimination in the December 7 episode, telling Entertainment Weekly, "We are getting down to the end, and next week we lose two people. I love/hate these episodes because I hate losing people, but I love having Two Tribals and two votes. Then the following week, it's our finale and it's going to be great!" Want more stuff like this?
