'Mad Families' Trailer: Charlie Sheen, Leah Remini, Naya Rivera End Up on Bizarre Camping Trip Posted: Camping trips are usually more about family bonding than war, but that changes in Crackle's upcoming original film "Mad Families," starring Charlie Sheen, Leah Remini, and Naya Rivera. The streaming service released the comedy's trailer Tuesday, and it introduces viewers to three families who all booked the same campsite over a holiday weekend. Instead of sharing, the men decide they should compete in a series of absurd competitions to determine who gets to stay. Needless to say, the challenges get a little out of control. With the families being white, black, and Hispanic, respectively, there are plenty of non-PC jokes packed in. The men's "war of words" shown in the preview, for example, doesn't hesitate to play on racial stereotypes. We suspect they'll find common ground, though, especially given how the women share at least one thing: exasperation with the ridiculousness of the men in their lives. "Mad Families" debuts Jan. 12 on Crackle. This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
Vin Diesel Addresses Paul Walker, 'Fast 8' Hopes in Bittersweet Post Posted: Paul Walker has been gone for over three years now, but his Fast and the Furious family certainly hasn't forgotten him. With the franchise's eighth film, "The Fate of the Furious" (also known as "Fast 8"), in post-production, Walker's absence has understandably been very much on the mind of his long-time co-stars. Vin Diesel made no secret of the fact when he posted a touching message to his late friend on Instagram Wednesday. The action star reflected on the latest installment's "arduous road to production" and "the challenging task of filming" it. Difficult as it has been, Walker has evidently been a motivating force. "You Pablo have given me strength... purpose and resolve," Diesel wrote to Walker. Diesel also shared his hope that the film will be one Walker would be proud of and reminded fans, "Family above everything." Diesel and Walker starred together in four Fast and the Furious movies over the span of a decade, and were in the process of filming a fifth (the franchise's seventh) when Walker died in a car accident on Nov. 30, 2013. "The Fate of the Furious" is the first in the series that Diesel has filmed entirely without Walker, so it's no wonder he still misses him. "The Fate of the Furious" hits theaters on April 14. Watch Kristen Wiig Join Jerry Seinfeld 'Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee' Season 9 Posted: Joyriding with Jerry Seinfeld has become a rite of passage for today's comedians, and a new group's experiences are coming to viewers. Crackle dropped the "Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee" Season 9 trailer Wednesday, revealing who will be sitting shotgun when the show returns. As usual, host Seinfeld has put together quite the lineup of funny people. The upcoming episodes will bring us entertaining encounters with Kristen Wiig, Norm MacDonald, Cedric the Entertainer, Lewis Black, Bob Einstein, and Christoph Waltz. The trailer doesn't get to the comedians right away because it first shows off their transportation, but clearly, it saves the best for last. The clips from the upcoming season are full of funny moments, from Seinfeld teasing his companion about not being able to get in the car to the comedian all but kicking Wiig out. We're in for another fun season. "Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee" Season 9 kicks off Jan. 5 on Crackle. This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
'Blade Runner 2049' Is Headed for R Rating, Says Director Denis Villeneuve Posted: In a lot of cases, filmmakers try to avoid R-ratings, but that's not the case at all for "Blade Runner 2049." With the film now in the editing process, director Denis Villeneuve and his team are looking to make the film R-rated, according to Screen Daily. "My producers are finding it fun to remind me that it will be one of the most expensive R-rated independent feature films ever made," he told the publication. R-ratings have long been something many studios try to avoid for the sake of ticket sales, but the industry has seen that, for the right film, moviegoers aren't deterred. "Deadpool" became a prime example early this year when it pulled in more than $782 million worldwide, according to Box Office Mojo data. The film shot up to second place on the domestic list of top-grossing R-rated films, landing behind 2004's "The Passion of the Christ." If "Blade Runner 2049" manages to get the desired R-rating, we suspect it won't be an issue for the long-awaited sequel, either. The film stars Harrison Ford, reprising his "Blade Runner" role, and Ryan Gosling. It doesn't hurt, either, that Villeneuve hit a home run with "Arrival"; the sci-fi flick has made its way into the Oscar conversation. R-rating or not, "Blade Runner 2049" is slated for release on Oct. 6. [via: Screen Daily] This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
Justin Theroux Goes to Oz in First Look at 'The Leftovers' Season 3 Posted: "The Leftovers" is going Down Under! The critically acclaimed HBO drama started in upstate New York and then moved to Texas in its second season. For its third and final season, Kevin Garvey (Justin Theroux) heads to Australia. As creator Damon Lindelof told Entertainment Weekly, "Australia is the end of the world geographically and our show is about the end-of-the-world emotionally. And there's also something about Australian cinema — it's primal, ancient and spiritual — that felt like it fit 'The Leftovers,' whether it's 'Mad Max' movies or 'Walkabout,' or 'Waking Fright' or Peter Weir movies." EW also has the first image from the new season, which premieres in April: Kevin goes to Australia for a brief trip, but ends up pulled into a complicated situation by his father (Scott Glenn). And since this is the final season, Lindelof said fans can expect that the eight episodes will be "building toward something conclusive." Want more stuff like this? Oscars 2017: 'Deadpool,' 'Suicide Squad' Land on Makeup and Hairstyling Shortlist Posted: Seven movies will advance to vie for an Oscar nomination for Best Makeup and Hairstyling, including two of the year's biggest superhero films. The Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences announced that the shortlist consists of "Deadpool," "The Dressmaker," "Florence Foster Jenkins," "Hail, Caesar!," "A Man Called Ove," "Star Trek Beyond," and "Suicide Squad." Three of these movies will earn a coveted nomination on Jan. 24. The movies include both lavish period work like in "Florence Foster Jenkins" and intricate prosthetics like in "Star Trek Beyond." The Swedish film "A Man Called Ove" features extensive old-age makeup. Last year, "Mad Max: Fury Road" took home the category's prize. Notably absent from the shortlist are "Harry Potter" spinoff "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them," biopic "Jackie," and blockbuster "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story." But it can be a bit of a wacky category — "Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa" and "Norbit" can count themselves as Oscar nominees thanks to it. Want more stuff like this? Veteran Scene-Stealer Erinn Hayes Finally Gets Her Spotlight in 'Kevin Can Wait' Posted: Erinn Hayes has definitely paid her dues as that actress whose name you might not have known but you noticed appearing on dozens of your favorite TV series and stealing scenes from the stars. And now she's got a hit of her own. As Donna Gable, the infinitely forgiving wife of a newly retired-but-not-exactly cop (Kevin James) on CBS's breakout sitcom "Kevin Can Wait," Hayes has the biggest spotlight of her career to date, even after an Emmy nomination for her regular role on the beloved medical drama satire "Childrens Hospital" and guest shots on seemingly every great show of the past 15 years. Hayes joined Moviefone to help her new legions of fans get even better acquainted with her. Moviefone: As a comedienne, what were the quirks that you want to bring to Donna when you started figuring out who she'd be? Erinn Hayes: We wanted her to be a fully fleshed-out person with flaws, and she's interesting, and not just the stereotypical sitcom mom. That path has been tread, so we wanted to do something a little bit different ... if you look at any marriage -- and you really look at a marriage, or even just really look at a human being – people are weird. Most people are really weird when you get to know them. I'm a weird person, and I think there is room for that. I want her to have some strange interests. I want her to, I don't know, I just want her to be multifaceted and interesting and weird. To come in and work with Kevin, who has such a specific comedy persona, what's been the treat of playing off of him and finding out how the two of you fit together? It's interesting because working with somebody who is such a well-known entity -- and he's a real force -- he has a real point of view, and he's real comfortable in his comedy. I don't think I could have come at this the same way at a different point in my career. But meeting him now, and where I am comfortable on a set -- I've worked on multi-cam sets -- that's not a new world to me, I love that world, I was very nervous/excited about, how are we going to work together? Are we going to be able to kind of craft a scene together? Or does he, as an executive producer, have his vision of it and I kind of need to fall in line? And it was very pleasantly surprising to see that he is in it. He wants to find the funniest thing for any given scene, and is up for suggestions and workshopping it and just figuring it out. So it's been really fun. Yeah, people love Kevin James. I had those friends coming out of the woodwork that you wouldn't think would be Kevin James fans, and be like "I would have watched this show even if you weren't on it -- I love Kevin James!" I had never watched a ton of stuff with him, but he's such a pro, and so smart, and so kind, and really takes care of everybody, and wants us all to be having a good experience, and to make the best product possible. And as you say, it's multi-camera format, which is the format of "I Love Lucy," "The Mary Tyler Moore Show," "Cheers ..." Yeah, it's what we all grew up watching. To be able to do it with somebody who the audiences are already on his side, and hopefully on our side, you don't have to work as hard. They already like it, so that if you can just do a real good job, you're not kind of fighting it at all, if that makes sense. And you like that traditional way? I do. I came from theater. It's tricky, but so rewarding. You can see some sitcoms at times when they will play to the audience, and then things get a little too big, a little too broad, in my opinion. So for me, it's finding my own balance between playing to the audience, and remembering the audience, that you're really there for the cameras. This give-and-take gives you energy on the night without pushing on the second take because they're not laughing as hard as the first take. Then you get a reminder ... It's an exercise. It's fun. Looking at your resume, you've played such a great diversity of parts on TV. You've popped into so many different kinds of shows. I imagine, sure, the weekly sitcom paycheck is great, but those opportunities to pop into a show and see how you can fit in and make a mark must be really great as an actor. It's very exciting, and it's very rewarding. I like comedy, I like drama. I like the mainstream stuff, and I love weird indie, or alt comedy. And I really enjoy television, that's the thing. I like watching things and figuring out the tone of it and how you might fit into something like that. And I've been very lucky to be able to jump into a bunch of good stuff. To jump in from like a "Parenthood," to doing "Childrens Hospital," to a "New Girl" -- just all these different shows that vary tonally. A favorite character of mine was your recurring "Parks and Recreation" role, lifestyle guru Annabel Porter. That "Parks and Rec" one was so fun. The character is so ludicrous. You start with Gwyneth Paltrow and you blow her up times a million. Then "New Girl" was also really fun. It was pretty, like, just slutty nurse on the page, and then there was just the one word in there. I was like, "Why is she saying freakin'?" I was like, "Well, that's it!" Just to jump into this kind of trashy, somebody who that's their crutch, is saying "freakin'." I think those two of the last couple years have been the most fun in terms of those recurring roles. You've said that "Childrens Hospital" was the job of your career -- and it earned you an Emmy nomination. Tell me a little bit more about why that was the right show, and that was the right part for you. Well, I realized I've kind of just been playing by the rules. I'm, like, slowly climbing the ladder. I started as a guest star, I got another guest star. It started as extra work. It was just kind of waiting for roles to come to me, and then you realize there is that little bit of luck. And my luck was a failed sitcom with Rob Corddry, and then, this job made me realize that the brilliance of creating a show with friends and people that you trust and you admire, and it all came together so well, and it opened all these doors of me. The doors that my past hadn't been opening. The interesting comedy stuff that I so desperately wanted to do, but was not being considered for because I hadn't done it yet. But getting to know Rob and having him get to know me, and just like going, "Come with me on to this show," was, I don't know -- I feel really cheesy, but it feels like a very beautiful gift. Who were the biggest influencers on what you consider your style of comedy? I mean, there's the classics: there's the Lucille Balls and the Carol Burnetts, and then my personal favorite is Madeline Kahn. I mean, she's the greatest. She's so subtle with huge choices. I rewatched "Clue" the other day. "Clue!" -- I love that movie. When she's talking about the ... just her face and everything she did. And of the current day, I am the biggest Kristen Wiig fan. We did this tiny movie that will never be seen -- thank God! -- together years and years ago, and I immediately like turned to each other and was like, "You're the funniest person I've ever met in my life!" I've been so excited to see all of her success. She's brilliant. As a person, what surprised you most about Kevin? What was the fun thing to learn about him? He's like a sweet shy guy. He's got his persona, but he's actually a little shy. But that makes sense to me, because often standup is an act, and it's a put-on persona, and that's a part of who you are. But then there's this other part that's a little more real and hanging out all the time. Those are all different parts of him who we all are. So that was the surprising part of that. People take little swipes at Kevin having the hot wife. Tell me why Kevin James should of course have a hot wife. Kevin James, number one, does have a hot wife. Yeah -- smokin' hot wife! He is funny, he is kind, he is a caregiver, he is just a stand-up guy. There's nothing not to like about Kevin James. He's super cute. I get it: There is that trope on TV of chubby guy with a hot wife. But I'm not going to begrudge my job or belittle it -- when we started working together, it was a chemistry that worked, and they saw a bunch of people, and this particular relationship works. So I don't want to diminish it to just this stereotype. "Kevin Can Wait" airs Mondays on CBS. This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
'Fargo' Season 3 Adds 'Boardwalk Empire' Alums to Cast Posted: Goodbye "Boardwalk Empire," hello "Fargo." The FX drama announced it is adding more cast members for its third season, and among them are two "Boardwalk Empire" alums, Michael Stuhlbarg and Shea Whigham. Stuhlbarg played the gentlemanly gangster Arnold Rothstein, while Whigham was combustible former sheriff Eli Thompson (younger brother of Steve Buscemi's main character, Nucky Thompson). On "Fargo," Stuhlbarg has been cast as Sy Feltz, right-hand man to Minnesota real-estate mogul Emmit Stussy (Ewan McGregor). Whigham, meanwhile, will play police chief Moe Dammick. Also coming on board for season 3: Scoot McNairy ("Halt and Catch Fire") as ex-con stoner Maurice LeFay; Fred Melamed ("Lady Dynamite") as Howard Zimmerman, "a mover and a shaker with a knack for spinning a yarn and turning a profit"; Karan Soni ("Blunt Talk") as scientist Dr. Homer Gilruth; and Thomas Mann ("The Middle:) as sci-fi author Thaddeus Mobley. The newcomers join an already-stacked cast for season, which includes McGregor playing twins, Carrie Coon ("The Leftovers"), Mary Elizabeth Winstead ("10 Cloverfield Lane"), comedian Jim Gaffigan, and "Harry Potter" alum David Thewlis. "Fargo" season 3 will premiere in spring 2017. Want more stuff like this? Like us on Facebook. This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
'Fences' Star Viola Davis on Her 'Vulnerable, Fiery Tornado' Role Posted: Viola Davis delivers one of her most powerful film performances in "Fences" as '50s housewife Rose Maxson, reprising the role that earned her a Tony Award. Moviefone sat down with the actress to talk about reuniting with Broadway costar Denzel Washington (who also directs). Washington plays Troy Maxson, a former promising baseball player who now works as a garbageman and Davis plays his no-nonsense wife, Rose. The "How to Get Away With Murder" star says bringing August Wilson's award-winning play from stage to screen resulted in an "even deeper, more vulnerable" performance, including some dramatic scenes that are sure to net her her third Oscar nomination. "There is still no difference in the essence of what we did," she says. "August didn't write small. You can't play that small. You've got to play it for what it is. You can't rein it in. You can't even control it. It's a fiery tornado that needs to be played out." It's a role she says she never tired of. "It's a love affair that can last for 25 years. You never fall out of love with it. The characters are so rich." "Fences," which costars Mykelti Williamson and Russell Hornsby, is in limited release now, and opens December 25th everywhere. Forest Whitaker Taking His 'Rogue One' Character to 'Star Wars Rebels' Posted: "Rogue One" rebel Saw Gererra is taking his fight to animation. Forest Whitaker will voice his resistance fighter character in Disney XD's animated "Star Wars Rebels," which is set prior to the events of "Rogue One." Whitaker makes his debut in the Jan. 7 episode "Ghosts of Geonosis, Parts One and Two." Saw has appeared in animated form before, in "Star Wars: The Clone Wars," where the brash, no-holds-barred guerrilla fighter trained with Jedi Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker. "It's an incredible honor to have Forest Whitaker play Saw in Rebels," said executive producer Dave Filoni in a statement. "Forest did a great job at capturing Saw in a way that is a bit mad, a bit crazed, a bit afraid, but also a bit sympathetic. He sees something coming, but no one will take action before it's too late." Want more stuff like this? Like us on Facebook. This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
Jennifer Lawrence Nicknamed a Disliked Celebrity 'Pickle' Posted: Feel the burn, Pickle. Jennifer Lawrence has a lot of celebrity friends -- Amy Schumer, Emma Stone, Chris Pratt, etc. -- but she does not love all of her fellow famous folk. JLaw was recently on "Watch What Happens Live" with her best friend Laura Simpson, and host Andy Cohen had them play a game called "Shush, You BFF Lush." Somehow, Simpson couldn't recall Lawrence's celebrity crush -- Larry David -- even though the star had already revealed that publicly. Simpson had the more private dirt, though. First, she was asked to reveal "One celebrity your BFF refuses to do a movie with." Simpson had a sly smile but took a drink, her way out of answering that particular question. It's possible we got hints to that in the nicknames. Simpson was asked to reveal "Without naming names, the meanest thing [Lawrence] has said about a celebrity." That's when the naughty (Mean Girl-ish) nicknames came out. Simpson: "There's somebody that we -- there's a lot of nicknames for certain celebrities. ... There's The Lady, there's Pickle... Uh, who else do we have?" Lawrence: "Well, The Lady has different variations. There's the Raging Lady, the Lady in Red, the Lady in Waiting." Watch the clip:Is that all one Lady or is there more than one? If there are several, that's a sad commentary on how many "lady" celebs she doesn't like. Pickle sounds like a dude, and maybe we shouldn't know how he got that nickname. The names will probably be revealed in a memoir someday, but for now fans have been left to guess. Mischa Barton Hated 'Awful' 'DWTS': 'It's Like The Hunger Games' Posted: But tell us how you really feel! "The O.C." alum Mischa Barton was eliminated second on "Dancing With the Stars" Season 22 in the spring of 2016. The only reason she didn't go first is because Geraldo Rivera is one of the worst dancers of all time. Mischa was clearly unhappy, and she did not hide that unhappiness in a recent interview with The Ringer, where she slammed the show and her pro partner Artem Chigvintsev. Here's part of her talk with Allison P. Davis of The Ringer:
Hey now, Katniss would not appreciate comparing "The Hunger Games" to a popularity contest. That was more about skill. DWTS has judges and their scores are meant to balance out the audience vote, so it's not purely about popularity. Mischa and Artem did have the lowest score in the week they were eliminated, but it was Mischa's attitude that seemed to sour the experience:The Ringer said ABC did not respond to a request for comment on Barton's claims. Celebs have their own contracts, and special requests, but they don't usually have control over their costumes or the pro's choreography. Barton did put on a brave face at the end. Before her elimination, she told TV Guide her enjoyment of DWTS "wasn't really represented" in the editing, "but it's really fun. That's not the angle you ended up seeing. I'm loving it." DWTS will put more contestants through this dancing "Hunger Games" when Season 24 premieres in March 2017. Want more stuff like this? Like us on Facebook. Wes Anderson Reveals New 'Isle of Dogs' Movie With Cute Sneak Peek Video Posted: Wes Anderson + Animated Dogs Voiced by a Dozen Major Stars = Take Our Money Now. Director Wes Anderson just announced his new animated movie, "Isle of Dogs," in the most precious Wes Anderson way. The director of "Rushmore," "The Royal Tenenbaums," "The Grand Budapest Hotel," "The Darjeeling Limited," "Fantastic Mr. Fox," etc. created a video to reveal his next film, which stars half of Hollywood, but especially Edward Norton. Norton not only voices "one of the lead dogs, named Rex," he cameos in Anderson's announcement video by peeking out from a door behind the director, just like a Wes Anderson character would do. Watch the announcement video: Wes Anderson from Crowdrise on Vimeo.
Yep, even Yoko Ono found a way to slide in there. Anderson's video includes the very briefest sneak peek shot of Norton's Rex, but mostly focuses on his promotion for The Film Foundation. Anderson said he and Norton teamed up with Crowdrise to offer a special "Isle of Dogs" experience for a fan -- to visit the set and voice one of the dogs -- in exchange for support for the Film Foundation. (As the Crowdrise page warns, "barking, howling & whimpering may be required.") "Isle of Dogs" (not to be confused with the 2011 action film "Isle of Dogs") is now shooting in England. It's Anderson's second stop-motion animated feature after "Fantastic Mr. Fox" and we can only hope it lives up to that standard. Stay tuned for details on the actual plot, and the release date. A 'Grey's Anatomy' Star Could Be Your New Landlord (For $7.9K a Month) Posted: One "Grey's Anatomy" star is ready for house calls of a different sort. Kevin McKidd (aka Dr. Owen Hunt) is trying to rent out his 3 bedroom, 2 bath home in California's Hollywood Hills. According to Realtor.com, it's 1,600 square feet with a guesthouse and beautiful gardens, and it can be yours -- temporarily, anyway -- for $7,900 per month. (Yeah, you might have to be a Seattle doctor to afford it.) Head to Realtor.com to see photos of the place, described as "French/Tuscan with a modern edge." The kitchen is lovely, but the garden is the real selling (or renting) point. It would be nice to hear happier reasons for the rental, but McKidd and his wife Jane announced their plans to divorce in July. They will co-parent their two children, but they're apparently parting ways with the house. So now the place is for lease. Of course, McKidd wouldn't be a hands-on landlord like Mr. Roper or Mr. Furley in "Three's Company." He'd too busy with his day job on "Grey's Anatomy" Season 13 to show up if there's a maintenance issue. (The ABC show returns January 19.) Owen has enough problems trying to track down Amelia to track down new toilet fixtures. Want more stuff like this? Like us on Facebook.
