Comics on Film: The Five Best Faces of Two-Face Posted: 02 Dec 2016 09:00 PM PST The past few weeks have proven to be pretty interesting for comics fans, and Batman fans in particular, since one of the Dark Knight’s primary foes has managed to become an unusually visible subject of some relatively big genre news. Although the majority of fans and casual observers will correctly point at the Joker as Batman's arch nemesis, there are several other candidates for the number two position in Batman's rogues' gallery. You could make cases for villains like Ra's al Ghul, the Riddler, or the Penguin, but befitting the position as Batman's second most vicious enemy, that spot likely belongs to Two-Face. Given his modern back-story as one of Batman's original allies in Gotham City before a traumatic disfigurement brought about a fractured... The First Trailer for 'Spectral' Tries to Bust Ghosts With Guns Posted: 02 Dec 2016 07:30 PM PST Who would you actually call if ghosts started running amok and doing real damage to a major city? Maybe the military, since the real Ghostbusters don't exist. That seems to be the idea behind Spectral, a sci-fi action movie in which an American Special Ops team is sent into a seemingly war-torn spot in Europe to fight what turns out to be ghost-like supernatural beings. The first trailer has arrived, and it looks like a combination of Black Hawk Down, Aliens and, yes, a heavy duty Ghostbusters. James Badge Dale, who has seen his share of more realistic historical combat fare in 13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi and the HBO miniseries The Pacific, helps lead the mission as a brilliant government scientist. The movie... Read More This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
Refresh Your Holiday Watchlist With These Christmas Movies New to DVD/Blu-ray Posted: 02 Dec 2016 06:00 PM PST We’ve officially arrived at the Christmas season, and while cable channels and streaming services will be overflowing with holiday offerings, here’s a quick tour through some new DVDs and Blu-rays that will help to make the season bright. The Big Kahuna If anyone were ever to designate the Official American Christmas Movie, the clear winner would have to be that legendary Frank Capra film that’s the only black-and-white film that can stake out three hours of prime-time television every November and December. But every holiday movie fan’s library should have It’s a Wonderful Life: 70th Anniversary Platinum Edition (Paramount), a new two-disc set that offers a crisp, hi-def remaster of the beloved fantasy (plus, if you must, a colorized... Guillermo del Toro and Mads Mikkelsen Get Super Weird in New Trailer for 'Death Stranding' Posted: 02 Dec 2016 04:30 PM PST A while back we created the Reel TV tag on Movies.com as an excuse to cover television shows that were increasingly attracting big screen filmmaking talent. We may have to create a Reel Games one, if only so we can keep writing about the utterly bizarre, 'I have no idea what's happening, but I can't look away' world of Death Stranding, a new game from Metal Gear Solid mastermind Hideo Kojima starring Norman Reedus, Guillermo del Toro and Mads Mikkelsen. Yes, you read that correctly. The director of Pan's Labyrinth is one of the stars of a video game alongside that hunky zombie killer from The Walking Dead and the sexiest Hannibal Lecter. The world is an increasingly unpredictable place. We'd tell you what Death Stranding is about, but when it comes... Read More This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
'Rampage' Director Brad Peyton Teases The Rock's Special Creature Relationship Posted: 02 Dec 2016 03:00 PM PST Rampage is a 1986 arcade game where players control one of three giant monsters trying to rack up points by destroying cities while avoiding being shot at by tanks and helicopters. There is a very, very thin setup for it all involving a lab whose experiments mutated three people into the giant gorilla, lizard and wolf, but it's otherwise a totally plotless arcade game. That gives the minds behind the big screen adaptation of the game plenty of leeway when turning it into a movie. And now thanks to an answer director Brad Peyton gave Fandango during a Facebook live chat about his new horror movie Incarnate, we know a bit more of what to expect from his giant monster movie starring Dwayne Johnson. And the answer is kind of surprising. When... Read More This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
'Escape From New York' Remake Story Details Uncovered -- It's a Prequel! Posted: 02 Dec 2016 01:30 PM PST More than 35 years ago, John Carpenter's Escape From New York opened quietly in less than 600 theaters nationwide. Overshadowed by box office titans Superman II, Raiders of the Lost Ark and Stripes that week, Carpenter's followup to The Fog nonetheless benefited from good word of mouth and soon earned a favored place in the hearts of genre fans around the world. Fifteen years later, Escape From L.A. again starred Kurt Russell, though it was not as well received as the original. Eventually talk turned to a remake, which has been stuck in development for a very long time. According to The Wrap, however, the first draft of Neal Cross's screenplay has been delivered to 20th Century Fox and the project is once again moving forward. The report teased tantalizing... Posted: 02 Dec 2016 12:00 PM PST Jurassic World 2: Justice Smith (above), who starred in the Netflix series The Get Down, has joined the cast of Jurassic World 2. No details about Smith's role have been revealed. [THR] 21 Jump Street: Back in April 2015, we heard that Broad City writers Lucia Aniello and Paul Downs were working on a spin-off from 21 Jump Street that would be led by female cops.
