Madonna, Stephen King and Donald Trump Biopics Dominate the 2016 Black List Posted: 13 Dec 2016 09:00 PM PST Are we ready for a biopic about Madonna? There's already a script for such a thing, titled Blonde Ambition, and it's the most popular one featured on this year's Black List ranking of the best unproduced screenplays. The movie would focus on the pop icon's start in NYC in the 1980s. But who could possibly play her? And which two actors could play Stephen King, given that there are two movies about the famous prolific horror author: The Kings of Maine is about him as a young alcoholic trying to finish Carrie while Maximum King! is about the making of his sole directorial effort, Maximum Overdrive. Black List titles not to be confused for additional King biopics: King of LA (a true story of a corrupt DEA... Read More This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
Posted: 13 Dec 2016 09:00 PM PST Suicide Squad director David Ayer will return to the DC Cinematic Universe and reunite with Margot Robbie for a new all-female, all-villain movie called Gotham City Sirens. Robbie will reprise her role as Harley Quinn from Suicide Squad, and she'll reportedly be joined by other female villains like Poison Ivy and Catwoman. We wouldn't be surprised if another cameo from Ben Affleck's Batman is thrown in, too, because... well, how can you have a movie set in Gotham City without Batman. Except maybe that's the point here -- maybe the way to expand the DC Cinematic Universe is to make Gotham City itself a main character, with the stories told within it becoming its own cinematic universe under the DC umbrella. Incidentally, The Hollywood Reporter also notes that a... Read More This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
Reel TV: Megan Good Is Your New 'Foxy Brown' Posted: 13 Dec 2016 08:00 PM PST Foxy Brown is probably one of the greatest movie titles ever. If you ask someone about Foxy Brown, even if they've never seen it or know nothing about Pam Grier, they'll probably at least go, "Isn't that an old movie?" It's catchy, it's alluring, it's got the certain something you simply don't get from other movie titles, particularly those named after their main characters. Jack Ryan doesn't quite have the same immediate cache as Foxy Brown, does it? So in an age where brands matter so very much, it's a little surprising that something with such instantaneous brand awareness as Foxy Brown hasn't already been remade. But that's about to change thanks to Hulu and future Foxy Brown Meagan Good. This is actually the second... Read More This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
Hugh Grant Talks 'Florence Foster Jenkins,' His Toxic 'Paddington 2' Character and More Posted: 13 Dec 2016 06:30 PM PST Most people can spend their entire lives trying to make a career out of something without ever actually becoming any good at it. And then there's Hugh Grant, a man who's made a career out of being incredibly good at something he's not all that passionate about: acting. Funnily enough, in his latest movie, Florence Foster Jenkins, Grant gives one of his career's best performances by playing a washed up actor who was never any good in the first place. Grant co-stars in the movie, based on a true story, as the long time lover/enabler of Meryl Streep's Florence, a woman who loves musical theatre but is herself an absolutely dreadful singer. It's a rather charming, heartfelt, layered movie about many things, including coming to terms with the often... Read More This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |

‘Rogue One’ Review: It's Bold, Brave, Badass and Immensely Satisfying for Longtime ‘Star Wars’ Fans Posted: 13 Dec 2016 03:00 PM PST Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is the first standalone Star Wars movie, but it is very much connected to the very first Star Wars film, A New Hope. With a meticulous attention to detail, recreating the scrappy, ominous look of that 1977 film while also widening its scope to include new characters, ships and planets, Rogue One succeeds most in the terrific way it expands upon what we know and love. It deepens the mythology, and explores things the previous movies never have, providing an immsensely satisfying experience for longtime Star Wars fans. Rogue One is the best new Star Wars film since the original trilogy; one that takes risks with its tone by sidestepping humor in favor of some of the most intense battle sequences we’ve ever seen from the franchise. Where it... Read More This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
Patrick Wilson Joins 'Aquaman' as Villain Posted: 13 Dec 2016 01:30 PM PST Patrick Wilson has joined the cast of Aquaman. He will portray ORM, according to Deadline. The villainous character, also known as Ocean Master, is the half brother of the titular hero, to be played by Jason Momoa. It's a canny casting choice by director James Wan, who has worked with Wilson on his horror hits Insidious, Insidious: Chapter 2, The Conjuring and this summer's The Conjuring 2. In the first two movies, Wilson played a family man struggling to protect his family from evil spirits. In the latter two, he took on the role of real-life, married paranormal investigator Ed Warren. In all four movies, Wilson convincingly embodied heroic characters and he's been equally persuasive as a good guy in movies such as Bone Tomahawk and on television in shows like... Movie News: How 'Logan' Got an R Rating, Thanks to Hugh Jackman; Watch 2 New 'Rogue One' Clips Posted: 13 Dec 2016 12:00 PM PST Logan: It's not yet official, but early reports indicate that Logan has earned an R rating for its brutal content. Now director James Mangold says that star Hugh Jackman accepted a reduction in his salary "because he wanted to do an R-rated movie" and his willingness to share the financial risk helped convince the financiers to move forward with the plan. Logan will open on March 3.
