'The Exorcist' Season 2 Could Follow Tomas, Marcus & a New Case Posted: "The Exorcist" Season 1 is ending tonight with an "ambitious" finale, and -- as of now -- we can only pray that Fox will renew the show for Season 2. Show creator Jeremy Slater told Deadline he knows what he wants to do should Fox bless him with a new batch of episodes. Since the interview was done before the December 16 season finale aired, he couldn't quite reveal which characters he wanted to take into Season 2, but he heavily hinted to keeping the focus on the "heart" of the show -- meaning Father Tomas (Alfonso Herrera) and Father Marcus (Ben Daniels) -- and having Season 2 follow a new case of possession with a new family. But he said that didn't mean we'd see the end of the Rance family, whose story was the focus of Season 1.
Geena Davis has been slaying her role as Angela Rance -- especially in the past two episodes as she ... well ... no spoilers, but you know if you know -- but it would probably get old to keep following the same beleaguered family year after year. The Rances have been through enough. Slater said he designed the show as a 10-hour story broken into installments, and he doesn't like cliffhangers, so -- if the show is not renewed -- Season 1 will at least have "a satisfying ending" to this particular story. That said, he really wants to keep going for Season 2.
Loyal fans of "The Exorcist" have been tweeting #RenewTheExorcist to keep the show alive, so we'll have to stay tuned to see if Fox wants to keep exorcising demons into 2017. Want more stuff like this? Like us on Facebook. This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
See Michael Sheen & Kate Beckinsale's Cute Reaction to Daughter's College News Posted: That Michael Sheen really knows how to elevate every milestone to the next level. First, take a minute to let it sink in that Kate Beckinsale, who is 43 but still looks about 25, has a daughter old enough to be heading off to college. She and Michael Sheen are no longer together, but they dated from 1995 to 2003 and are the proud parents of daughter Lily, who was born in 1999 and apparently just got accepted to college. Beckinsale shared how the family celebrated: Lifts and hugs for everyone! Sheen, 47, and Beckinsale met in a touring production of "The Seagull" in early 1995. Beckinsale told IGN she convinced director Len Wiseman to cast Sheen in "Underworld," and then she and Sheen ended up splitting, and she went on to marry Wiseman. Beckinsale and Wiseman are now recently divorced, and Sheen is dating Sarah Silverman. But Beckinsale and Sheen obviously parted on good terms and seem like they are co-parenting in perfect style. As Beckinsale told IGN of her ex, "I mean, Michael and I were together for nearly 10 years, and I can't imagine not having him in my life. He lives close by in LA and we all get together sometimes and I'm very proud of that." Sheen can now be seen in the movie "Passengers" and Beckinsale is returning as Seline for "Underworld: Blood Wars" in January. Want more stuff like this? Like us on Facebook. 'Game of Thrones' Season 7 Has 'So Much More Dark Sansa' Posted: "Game of Thrones" Season 7 is still filming, and there haven't been many "official" reveals yet, but we already know quite a bit about Sansa Stark's journey. That's not from spoilers -- although there have been plenty, including a rumored rundown of the entire plot -- it's from interviews with Sophie Turner. She recently talked about Sansa having a power trip in Season 7, and she went further down that road in a new interview with Vulture. Turner mentioned Sansa getting and enjoying her first little taste of power toward the end of last season, only for it to be taken away when Jon Snow was declared King in the North. Vulture noted that a lot was made of the prospect of a "Dark Sansa" when she got to change her wardrobe at the Eyrie, but the power-loving ginger Stark of Season 7 sounds like more of the real Dark Sansa. Turner agreed, teasing more of her character's dark side:
Turner also teased more of her future with Littlefinger. Vulture said Littlefinger doesn't trust anyone, but he seems to trust Sansa, since she's one of the few people who could turn him in for conspiring to kill King Joffrey, and also killing Lysa Arryn. Turner seized on that:
Season 7 won't premiere until the summer of 2017, and there's only one season left after that. Turner said the mood on set is more somber, since they know they will soon say goodbye. She and Maisie Williams (Arya Stark) already got matching tattoos, and it sounds like the rest of the GoT cast may go the "Lord of the Rings" route when it's over:
We certainly hope she will be. Want more stuff like this? Like us on Facebook. This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
'The OA' Is Already the New 'Stranger Things' After Surprise Netflix Drop Posted: Netflix, how are we supposed to chill with you when you're sneaking around behind our backs? Like a streaming Beyoncé, Netflix just casually dropped a new series "The OA," after only announcing it existed a few days ago. Why the secrecy? Apparently the less you know going in the better, but fans and critics who just binged it are already comparing it to "Stranger Things" -- only without the kids. Here's how The Hollywood Reporter put it:
Their review isn't exactly a rave, overall, but so far early birds have shot the series to a 9.1/10 rating on IMDb, and critics have given it an 83 percent fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes. That will probably change as more people discover the series, but it's a strong start. "The OA" stars Brit Marling, who also co-created and co-wrote the series with Zal Batmanglij, who also directs. Here's a generic enough synopsis to not spoil too much:
Vanity Fair had this assessment:
And here's a "fresh" blurb from New York Magazine:
Not everyone is a fan, though. Here's an excerpt from Variety's "rotten" review:
"The OA" is now waiting for your own critique on Netflix. Also, if you're interested in other Netflix recommendations, the Brazilian dystopian series "3%" is definitely worth a binge. Full 'Homeland' Season 6 Trailer Teases Return of Peter Quinn Posted: If a cat's got nine lives, then Peter Quinn must be immortal. The new, full-length trailer for "Homeland" season 6 reveals that badass CIA operative Peter Quinn (Rupert Friend) somehow survived his massive brain injury. He seemed like a goner when Carrie (Claire Danes) read his final farewell letter, which declared his love for her. But Quinn is alive. But is he well? That's unclear, since he only speaks briefly at the end of the trailer and is not seen. The trailer fleshes out season 6 a bit more than the teaser released in November. Carrie is living and working in New York at a foundation aiding Muslim Americans. "Law enforcement needs to stop harassing and demonizing an entire community," she tells her former (current?) boss Otto During. A little more light is shed on the season's other major storyline: A new president-elect (Elizabeth Marvel) is preparing for her inauguration, and she's planning to overhaul the CIA — which troubles Saul (Mandy Patinkin) and Dar Adal (F. Murray Abraham). "Homeland" season 6 premieres Sunday, Jan. 19 at 9 p.m. on Showtime. Want more stuff like this? 'Going in Style' Trailer: It's the Grandfather of All Heists Posted: Grandpa's got a gun! The first trailer for "Going in Style" brings together Oscar winners Morgan Freeman, Michael Caine, and Alan Arkin as longtime friends who embark on a life of crime in their old age. When their pension funds go bust, the senior citizens plan a heist to steal back their money from the banks. Of course, becoming a criminal in your 80s is not easy, so they practice on grocery stores and quickie marts. They attempt to figure out how to use smartphones, how to shoot guns, and how to get away from the scene as fast as their aged legs will take them. The movie is an updated remake of the 1979 film starring George Burns, Lee Strasberg, and Art Carney. The three leads here seem delightfully chummy and look like they're having a ball. "Going in Style" opens in theaters April 7. Want more stuff like this? Amy Schumer and Goldie Hawn Get 'Snatched' in New Trailer Posted: A mother/daughter bonding trip goes terribly, but hilariously, wrong in the trailer for "Snatched," starring Amy Schumer and Goldie Hawn. When Schumer's boyfriend breaks up with her before a planned adventure to South America, she takes Hawn instead (even though Mom is very reluctant to go). They bicker and get on each other's nerves, but have an OK vacation — until they're kidnapped! "Oh my god, we've been Liam Neeson 'Taken'!" Schumer screams in their cell. And now mother and daughter have to work together to get themselves out of this situation. The red-band trailer follows:This is Hawn's first movie role since 2002, but it doesn't seem like she's missed a beat. She and Schumer exhibit some good chemistry, and of course, Schumer's particular brand of raunchy comedy is out in full force. "Snatched" opens in theaters May 12. Here's the green-band version of the trailer: Want more stuff like this? Like us on Facebook. This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
'Rogue One' Has Biggest Thursday Opening of the Year Posted: "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" is off to an excellent start at the box office after scoring the year's biggest Thursday opening. The movie pulled in $29 million from Thursday night previews, putting it ahead of "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" ($27.7 million) and "Captain America: Civil War" ($25 million). But that number does fall short of the Thursday night earnings of last year's "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" ($57 million). "Rogue One" is projected to have a $135 to $150 million weekend at the box office, which would make it the second-highest December opening of all time (after "The Force Awakens," naturally). It's all good news for Disney and Lucasfilm, since "Rogue One" is the first standalone "Star Wars" film and tells a different kind of story than the Skywalker saga. The success of "Rogue One" paves a smoother path for upcoming standalone movies, including the young Han Solo tale. Want more stuff like this? 'Grey's Anatomy' Season 13 'Creepy' 2017 Premiere Heads to Prison Posted: "Grey's Anatomy" is sending Grey Sloan docs into a maximum security prison in the Season 13 midseason premiere. But no, we're not talking about Dr. Alex Karev (Justin Chambers) and his big cliffhanger decision from the winter finale. Instead, Dr. Arizona Robbins leads a small group into the slammer on official business, and actress Jessica Capshaw revealed that the table read alone left the stars "terrified." "Arizona's been called in on a case at a maximum security prison for an inmate who can't go to a regular hospital because she's that dangerous," Capshaw told TV Guide. But it's not just Arizona going; she enlists Bailey (Chandra Wilson) and Jo (Camilla Luddington) for help. "After the longest day of all of their lives, they all go to a maximum security prison, where they are meant to do something that seems like a pretty simple procedure. It's truly kind of creepy at the same time as it's super-provocative and exciting." Interesting. Whatever happens in prison will surely remind everyone of Alex's dilemma -- Plea Deal Prison vs. Trial Reveals Jo's Past -- and we're definitely curious to see how that is resolved. Season 13 returns Thursday, January 19, 2017, picking up right after the events of the November 17, 2016 Episode 9. Want more stuff like this? Like us on Facebook. 'The Incredibles 2' Has Begun: Samuel L. Jackson Posts First Day Photo Posted: Frozone is back in action! "The Incredibles 2," sequel to the 2004 Pixar blockbuster, is up and running to hit its new June 15, 2018 release date. Samuel L. Jackson is as excited as anyone to return for more, posting a photo from the recording booth at Walt Disney Studios to mark his "first recording session" as Lucius Best/Frozone: Sam Jackson is the coolest guy in town, so of course he's voicing the iceman Frozone, best friend of Bob Parr/Mr. Incredible (Craig T. Nelson) and best man at Bob's wedding to Helen/Elastigirl. In 2014, Jackson told Digital Spy he was looking forward to what Frozone (and others) would do in the sequel. "I guess they could be the Incredibles without Frozone, but I think Frozone would be a wonderful addition to what's already there. I'm just looking forward to seeing what Jack-Jack turned into." Yeah, Baby Jack-Jack Parr only hinted to his potential at the end of the first movie, so we'll have to see what he's capable of now. "The Incredibles 2" will open in theaters on June 15, 2018, which is a year earlier than originally planned. [via Entertainment Weekly] Want more stuff like this? Like us on Facebook. 'Sherlock' Season 4 Is 'Brutal,' 'Funny' & the Cast's Favorite Yet Posted: "Sherlock" Season 4 keeps warning us that "it's not a game anymore," with dark, brutal themes ahead; but it's also meant to be "amazing," "really funny," and perhaps the best season yet. So let the non-games begin. Sherlock Holmes (Benedict Cumberbatch) and Dr. John Watson (Martin Freeman) will return January 1 on PBS, with a new baby for John and Mary, and a new villain for John and Sherlock. Toby Jones's character has been billed as "maybe the most dark-hearted character that we've ever had." Co-creator Steve Moffatt recently teased, at a BAFTA celebration, that the characters would be taken to "a darker place" than ever before. However, it won't be all doom and gloom. Co-creator Mark Gatiss (who also plays Mycroft Holmes) said, "We always have to keep reiterating this hasn't suddenly become some kind of uber bleak sort of Scandi show." Amanda Abbington (Mary) seconded that, saying, "It's quite funny. Actually, it's really funny." Abbington went further, echoing the dark tones, but also promising perhaps the best we've ever seen:
Well, then it can be as brutal and dark as it wants, because if they loved it, then we'll love it. Plus, Sherlock has already looked into the camera and told us "I love you," so what else can we ask for? "Sherlock" Season 4 begins with "The Six Thatchers" on January 1. Adorable: Hugh Jackman & Blake Lively Honor Ryan Reynolds Walk of Fame Star Posted: Ryan Reynolds just got his own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, and he was honored by the great loves of his life: Hugh Jackman and, perhaps to a lesser degree, Blake Lively. He probably loves his kids, too, but ... come on ... not as much as Wolverine. Hollywood is packed with beautiful bromances, but one closest to our hearts is what's happening in real-time between Jackman and Reynolds. The dashing former "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" co-stars are very close in real life, and Reynolds just gushed that he wants a Deadpool/Wolverine movie because he genuinely loves Jackman. Jackman returned the compliment in the spirit of their union, by teasing Reynolds for his new star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The Australian actor held a Ryan Reynolds mask over his face for a goofy Instagram video, which started with this caption:
In the video, Jackman joked:
Adorable. Put them in everything together -- Wolverine, Deadpool, a buddy cop movie, a tender rom-com where these two friends realize they were right in front of each other the whole time, etc. Anything. Jackman does have some competition for Reynolds's affection. The "Deadpool" star's wife, Blake Lively, shared this beautiful note on Instagram, also congratulating her man: He's a lucky guy!
