Sundance Announces Movies in Competition for the 2017 Festival Posted: 30 Nov 2016 08:00 PM PST The 2017 Sundance Film Festival has announced the movies set for its four competition slates, as well as titles screening in the innovation-focused Next program. As is the case every year, many of these feature films are complete unknowns but could be the hottest properties during the event. Maybe some will even be in the awards conversation one year from now. Other movies are already highly anticipated. For instance, U.S. dramatic competition selection Landline reunites Obvious Child director Gillian Robespierre and star Jenny Slate. And Next title A Ghost Story is that secret collaboration between filmmaker David Lowery and actors Casey Affleck and Rooney Mara, all of whom last worked together on 2013 Sundance award winner Ain't Them... Next 'Indiana Jones' Movie Still In "Thinking Stages"; Could Marion Ravenwood Return? Posted: 30 Nov 2016 06:00 PM PST A release date is set for the next installment in the continuing Indiana Jones franchise, with a fifth movie set to hit theaters on July 19, 2019. We know Harrison Ford will return along with Steven Spielberg, and that David Koepp is writing the screenplay. But just how far along are they in deciding Indy's next (and last?) adventure. "That's still in the thinking stages," producer Frank Marshall recently told Fandango during a conversation tied to the DVD/Blu-ray release of Jason Bourne on December 6. At the conclusion of Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, Indy finally married his longtime love Marion Ravenwood (Karen Allen), and when we brought up the next Indiana Jones movie to Marshall, we asked whether there was room for Marion to... 'Florence Foster Jenkins' Clip Shows The Creative Way They Captured Meryl Streep's Terrible Singing Posted: 30 Nov 2016 04:30 PM PST One of the most under appreciated tricks of an actor's trade is giving a deliberately bad performance within an actually great performance. Usually this comes about when an actor is playing a character that is also an actor, albeit a bad one. It's easy to go over the top with it, for a director to ask an actor to just ham everything up in-character, and you can mostly get away with that. But there's a big difference between an actor faking a performance they know is bad, and an actor giving a performance their character has absolutely no idea is bad. The latter kind of performance is what Meryl Streep seems to so effortlessly create in Florence Foster Jenkins, an inspiring, charming movie where she plays a woman who chases a career as an opera singer despite her... PSA: Netflix Will Now Let You Download Movies and Shows To Watch Offline Posted: 30 Nov 2016 03:00 PM PST In case 2016 wasn't already full of enough unprecedented changes in the world, here's another one. Netflix has now done what they said they'd never do: allow users to download movies to watch offline. Since its inception, Netflix has insisted that movies streamed on its service had to be, well, streamed. A while ago Netflix' biggest competitor, Amazon, gave its users the ability to download videos for offline viewing, but even then Netflix drew a hard line in the sand about it. Their logic, at the time, was that users don't really want to spend all their time managing the storage of their content. They don't want to deal with downloads and space management. They just want to press play and watch something instantly. But that was a year ago. Amazon's... Read More This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |

'Rogue One: A Star Wars Story' Buzz: Sequel News and a Major Social Media Event Posted: 30 Nov 2016 12:00 PM PST With Rogue One: A Star Wars Story launching into theaters soon, anticipation is already riding high on how, exactly, the film will conclude. After all, the official premise of the movie is that a newly-assembled team of rebels are assigned to steal the secret plans for the Death Star. Since we've all seen Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope, which begins with those plans safely in the hands of Princess Leia (Carrie Fisher), we assume the mission will be successful, but what about the team of thieving rebels? Who will survive? Could a sequel be made, perhaps depicting the team carrying out other dangerous, secret missions against the backdrop of events taking place in Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back and Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi? That might... Read More This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
