'The Walking Dead': Carl Shows Eye Wound to Negan in Badass New Promo

Posted:

Are we 100 percent sure Carl Grimes isn't Shane's child, too? "The Walking Dead" Season 7, Episode 7, "Sing Me a Song" airs this Sunday, December 4, and it is looking like a comic fan's dream hour 90 minutes. Mini Grimes (Chandler Riggs) will face off against Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan), to potentially surprising results.

The episode title teases a Negan/Carl moment from the "Walking Dead" comic, and a new AMC promo -- focused on Carl going "behind enemy lines" to the Sanctuary -- shares more comic book nods:
You can see Carl unwrapping his bandage to flash his empty eye socket to Negan, which happened in the comic as well. In the comic, though, Carl is younger than the character on TV, so maybe this Carl won't cry the way comic Carl did after Negan insulted his "disgusting" eye wound.

The Carl/Negan relationship is intriguing, but it will probably infuriate Rick Grimes and add to his living hell. Poor guy.

Here's the official promo for Episode 7:
"Sing Me a Song" is the penultimate episode of the first half, to be followed by the Episode 8 midseason finale, "Hearts Still Beating," on December 11. Then it's radio silence until February 2017.

"The Walking Dead" airs Sunday at 9 p.m. ET on AMC.

'Once Upon a Time' Season 6B Has 'Epic' Plans for Captain Swan

Posted:

"Once Upon a Time" Season 6 is making our heads spin and hearts hurt, and it's just getting started. This Sunday, December 4 marks the winter finale -- aka the last episode of 2016 -- and we already know "Wish You Were Here" is meant to share answers on Emma's (Jennifer Morrison) mysterious hooded killer. However, one of the showrunners is suggesting fans -- especially fans of Emma and Captain Hook (Colin O'Donoghue) -- look past Episode 10 and look forward to what sounds like a (semi?) bright future.

Here's TVLine's latest scoop on that subject, in answer to a fan's Captain Swan query:

I'm bummed about the Once Upon a Time winter finale (airing this Sunday), because it looks like Emma and Hook won't be together in the fairytale world. Got any good CaptainSwan scoop? —Alison
"Whether Emma and Hook are together in the winter finale isn't the question to be asking," responds co-creator Adam Horowitz. "The real question to ask is: Will the two of them be embarking on an epic adventure filled with romance, danger and passion in the second half of the season? And the answer is... yes."

Yes! Sounds good. Also sounds like Emma is still alive/around into 6B, which we kinda figured, but it's a welcome tease anyway.

Back to the winter finale, though. Here's ABC's synopsis:

"Wish You Were Here" - When she learns that our heroes possess a weapon capable of defeating her, the Evil Queen steals Aladdin's magic lamp from Jasmine and makes a wish that could sideline the Savior forever. Unwilling to wake Snow while Emma is missing, David works with Hook and Henry to hold the Evil Queen at bay in Storybrooke, as Regina goes on a rogue rescue mission. Meanwhile, Gold and Belle face a surprising danger to their newborn son.

Can't even deal with more Rumbelle drama at the moment, so let's skip that. The other bossman, Edward Kitsis, told Entertainment Weekly more about that wish -- for Emma to have never become the Savior. "One thing that people have always wondered is what would happen if the curse was never enacted and Emma grew up in a fairy tale, and that's what we're going to show."

Here's a sneak peek of the Evil Queen's granted wish:
And here's a tease of Emma growing up in the fairy tale world:

ONCE UPON A TIME Season 6, Epiosde 10 - "Wish You Were Here" - Dec. 4, 2016(ABC/Jack Rowand) JENNIFER MORRISON, GINNIFER GOODWIN, JOSH DALLAS
We're curious to see more of that.

But there's still no avoiding the prophecy. "Emma is fated to die and that is the destiny that we learned all Saviors face," Kitsis added to EW. That is going to be coming to a head — it is going to resonate in the finale and it will definitely come to a head in the next half of the season when we return."

OK, but at least we know the second half will also feature romance, passion, and (less cool) danger for "the two of them," meaning Emma and Hook. And, of course, Robin Hood is meant to return for a multi-episode arc, so there's a lot to look forward to once we get through the winter break.

"Once Upon a Time" airs Sunday at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.

'Game of Thrones' Season 7 Has 'More Dragons' ... and 'More Torture'?

Posted:

The characters of "Game of Thrones" will certainly face more conflict in the final two seasons -- and the people of Westeros will see dragons for the first time in more than 100 years -- but "torture"? Come on. We just got rid of Ramsay, let's not tempt the gods to send another villain like that.

Alfie Allen, whose character Theon Greyjoy certainly knows from torture, recently talked to fans at Malta India Fan Con in Puerto Rico, teasing a bit of what's ahead in Season 7. Watchers on the Wall posted video shared by a fan, and one of the takeaways was that Allen said there would be "more torture, more dragons" in the new season. However, in the context of the talk, it's pretty clear the "torture" part was just a joking play off what the moderator had just said. He probably didn't mean it as a real tease.

Around the 9-minute mark of the video below, the moderator -- dressed as Wonder Woman -- asked Allen what's next on the HBO show. They had just talked about Theon's (literally) tortured past, so that's probably why it's referenced here:

Moderator: "Two seasons are coming up. 'Game of Thrones.' Yes. Seventh and eighth seasons programmed for 2017 and 2018. What can we expect as fans?"

Alfie Allen: "What can you expect? Just more of the same, but better."

Moderator: "More torture, more torture!"

Allen: "More torture, more dragons. More ... [he turned to the live audience, since they didn't have a big reaction] No dragons? You don't want dragons? You want dragons, right? So dragons, torture, 'cause [the moderator] wants to see some torture..."

It basically turned into some awkward flirtation, but it sounded like his real tease was just "more of the same, but better" and "more dragons." There will probably be dark moments and sad deaths that some fans could consider torture but it doesn't sound like we should take that torture tease literally.

During the fan Q&A section, Allen was asked how Theon will feel when he sees Jon Snow and (power trippin') Sansa Stark again. Allen seemed aware of the spoilers out there about Season 7, and he referenced them when correcting the fan. "You mean IF that happens. Gotta stop looking at the Internet, guys." He did give a hypothetical answer, though. "I would say he would feel horrible. He'd feel awful. And he'd see it as a chance to redeem himself."

We'll have to see IF that happens when Season 7 arrives in summer 2017.

'Harry Potter' Play's Broadway Move Comes With an Awkward Catch

Posted:

The cast of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. Photo by Manuel HarlanHarry Potter is pulling a Newt Scamander and heading Stateside, but that's not good news for everyone.

It was recently revealed that "Harry Potter and the Cursed Child" is planning to open on Broadway "in a totally transformed Lyric Theatre" in New York City in the spring of 2018. U.S. Potter-philes had been waiting for that news, but -- as "Once Upon a Time" fans know -- magic always comes with a price. In this case, the price is apparently being paid by a Cirque du Soleil show.

According to the New York Times, the Lyric Theater is being transformed, "shedding one-fifth of its seats" to make room for the two-part Potter play. However, here's the catch:

"The move is awkward: The theater is currently occupied by Cirque du Soleil, which spent $25 million creating its first Broadway show, 'Paramour,' and was hoping to keep running it there.

But the Ambassador Theater Group, known as ATG, the British company that owns the Lyric, was so eager to lure 'Cursed Child' that it is making it financially worthwhile for Cirque to move out.

'They made us an offer we couldn't refuse,' said Scott Zeiger, the chief executive of Cirque's theatrical division. 'They have some plans for the venue, and they incentivized us to go.'"

Did you ever expect to hear a "Godfather" reference in regard to Harry Potter muscling someone out of a Broadway venue? Maybe the whole thing is being run by Slytherins. That doesn't have to be a bad thing, but it's a bit surprising.

At any rate, the takeaway is good for the fans who couldn't travel to London to see the play, which is most of us here in North America. Stay tuned for details on when "Harry Potter and the Cursed Child" will open on Broadway, and how to get tickets.

Chris Pratt Keeps Cropping Jennifer Lawrence Out of Photos & It Never Gets Old

Posted:

Maybe we're just too easily amused, but every time Chris Pratt posts a new Instagram photo with his "Passengers" co-star Jennifer Lawrence, it cracks us up.

Pratt has made a running gag out of blocking Lawrence's face, or almost completely cropping her out of photos. He doesn't mention that he's doing it, he just keeps posting photos (and even a video) with "best buddy Jen" and acts like they're completely normal instead of half of her face, or the back of her head, or just her arm drinking from a glass behind him:

Why is it hilarious every single time?!

Both actors are naturally funny, but "Passengers" is hardly a comedy -- it's more like "Titanic" in space. They just can't help but be goofy behind-the-scenes while promoting it.

"Passengers" will be released in theaters December 21. Take a closer look at the mysterious trailer over here. And don't forget to keep checking Pratt's Instagram to see more partial photos of Jennifer Lawrence.

Amy Schumer in Talks to Star in and Co-Write 'Barbie' Movie

Posted:

People Amy Schumer TrumpAmy Schumer might be a Barbie girl, in a Barbie world.

The comedian and actress is in talks to star in and co-write the script of Sony's live-action "Barbie" movie, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The movie is described as a "a contemporary spin on beauty, feminism and identity."

Sony and Mattel have been developing the project for some time. Last year, they hired three writers to turn in scripts, and ended up choosing Hilary Winston's. Schumer and sister Kim Caramele are expected to rewrite it. A director has yet to be hired.

The story begins with a woman in a land of perfect Barbies who realizes she doesn't fit in. She journeys to the real world, where she finds being unique is an asset. Schumer's casting seems to indicate Mattel wants to shake up Barbie's image of stick-thin beauty.

'Good Girls Revolt' Canceled by Amazon After One Season

Posted:

Good Girls Revolt"Good Girls Revolt" won't be revolting for a second season.

Amazon has canceled the drama, which followed female journalists battling sexism in the late '60s. Creator Dana Calvo confirmed the news on Twitter, with a reference to Hillary Clinton's loss in the presidential election:

The series starred Genevieve Angelson, Anna Camp, Erin Drake, Grace Gummer, Joy Bryant, and Hunter Parrish, and was inspired by Lynn Povich's book of the same title. The book chronicled landmark sexual discrimination cases, and in the show, the women are researchers who don't get any of the credit or glory that the male reporters do.

"Good Girls Revolt" debuted to mostly positive reviews and was a hit with women viewers. Sony, which produces the show, reportedly intends to shop it around to other outlets.

Part One of the 'Nashville' Season 5 Premiere Will Debut This Month

Posted:

nashville, season 5, premiereWhile country music series "Nashville" has featured plenty of drama on-screen throughout its first four seasons, it's also seen its fair share of drama off-screen, too. Back in May, ABC cancelled the show, which ended its season four finale on a huge cliffhanger, and several weeks went by before a new home was found. Thankfully, cable net CMT swooped in to save the day, and to celebrate, the show is releasing the first half of its two-part season five premiere several weeks early.

The episode, which is slated to run for two hours, was originally set to debut in early January. Now, CMT will air the first hour on Thursday, December 15 at 9 p.m. Actor Charles Esten, who plays Deacon Claybourne on the series, appeared in a video addressing "Nashville" fans to share the exciting news."To all you Nashies out there, as a thanks for saving our show, we're gonna give you the first hour of our two-hour premiere early," Esten said in the clip. "Enjoy."

The premiere will pick up where things left off in the season four finale, revealing that Juliette (Hayden Panettiere) was in a plane crash. The season five promo also promised that the episode will focus on the relationship between Scarlett (Clare Bowen) and Gunnar (Sam Palladio), as well as Maddie's (Lennon Stella) return to her family after her emancipation last season.

Tune in for part one on December 15. The entire season five premiere airs on CMT on January 5.

Sigourney Weaver Says the 'Avatar' Sequels are 'More Amazing' Than the Original

Posted:

30th Annual American Cinematheque Awards Gala - ArrivalsWe haven't heard much from writer-director James Cameron since he announced that the long-delayed "Avatar" sequels would be four films instead of three. And while there still isn't much intel to go on, actress Sigourney Weaver has promised fans that the flicks will be worth the (seemingly never-ending) wait.

In an interview with Variety, Weaver chatted about several of her upcoming projects, including those four much-discussed -- but still quite mysterious -- sequels, which the actress described as "looming" over her. While the sci-fi veteran didn't elaborate on what that meant in terms of a shooting schedule, she did say that she's seen three of the four the screenplays (in what stage of completion is unclear), and had nothing but praise for the stories that awaited filmgoers.

"In my opinion, the three scripts I've read so far are many times more amazing than the first one in terms of their scope," Weaver told Variety. "[Cameron] did a lot of the heavy lifting in the first movie, establishing the family and the relationships and the world, and now he really gets to play."

According to the trade, the four sequels will be "a family saga," though what exactly that means is anyone''s guess. It does give us some hope, though, that Cameron is on track to finally begin production on these new films, after the plan for the sequels was changed from two films, to three, to four, and the release date for the first follow-up shifted from 2014 to 2016 to 2017, to the new tentative schedule: "Avatar 2," "Avatar 3," "Avatar 4," and "Avatar 5" are currently slated to hit theaters around Christmastime in 2018, 2020, 2022, and 2023, respectively.

Stay tuned to see if the plan changes again. Based on everything that's happened so far, we wouldn't be surprised by anything at this point.

There's Something Off About the First Photos From Lifetime's Britney Spears Movie

Posted:

Lifetime has released the first batch of promotional photos from its upcoming unauthorized biopic of pop star Britney Spears, and the images have left fans a bit confused.

The chief complaint is that the actress cast to play Britney, Natasha Bassett, looks nothing like the singer. And that's doubly true for the supporting actors playing the men in Britney's life: Kevin Federline (portrayed by Clayton Chitty, in probably the most accurate casting in movie), Justin Timberlake (Nathan Keyes), and the rest of *NSYNC (Frankie Cena as Chris Kirkpatrick, Connor Paton as Lance Bass, Matt Visser as Joey Fatone, and Zac Vran as JC Chasez). Check out some of the photos for yourself:britney spears, lifetime, biopic, britney, movie britney spears, lifetime, biopic, britney, moviebritney spears, lifetime, biopic, britney, moviebritney spears, lifetime, biopic, britney, moviebritney spears, lifetime, biopic, britney, moviebritney spears, lifetime, biopic, britney, movieThe various *NSYNC actors are especially egregious (Cena looks far more like fellow boy bander Trevor Penick of O-Town than anything resembling Chris Kirkpatrick), but really, all of the casting is pretty terrible. While Lifetime faced a similar backlash when it released the cast photos for its previous unauthorized movies about "Saved by the Bell" and "Full House," we think the cable net may have truly outdone itself this time in the Casting Actors That Look Nothing Like Their Real-Life Counterparts department.

Of course, Twitter had a field day with the photos, sharing some hilarious commentary on the images.

We can't wait for the movie to actually premiere and see all of this glorious cheesiness in action. The flick, currently titled "Britney," is set to premiere on Lifetime sometime in 2017.

'Gilmore Girls' Revival: Here's How Rory Could Afford All Those International Flights

Posted:

Aside from the major cliffhanger on which the series ended, there were still a few other burning questions about the events of "Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life" that left fans scratching their heads. Chief among them: How could Rory (Alexis Bledel), who claimed to be broke, afford all of those flights to London she took throughout the revival? Now, "Gilmore" creator Amy Sherman-Palladino has offered up an explanation.

In an interview with TVLine, Sherman-Palladino spilled the beans about all things "A Year in the Life," including the final four words, Rory's babydaddy, and yes, all of that airfare on her many visits to London/Logan. According to the producer, the answer to how the flailing freelance journalist could swing such a large expense on a regular basis came down to some thrifty planning.

"A lot of it was points," ASP told TVLine. "When you travel that much you have points. She's flying economy. She's flying JetBlue on a deal. And she's using her points. We didn't really focus on money because, quite frankly, I don't think anyone's worried that Rory is going to starve. Between Emily Gilmore, Lorelai Gilmore... Logan... there were so many [well-off] people in her life that would've made sure she didn't fall through the cracks."

We see more than a few cracks in ASP's explanation, especially since Rory herself kept telling everyone that she had no money. Even with some careful scouring of airline deals, it seems a little too convenient that she was still able to spontaneously jet off overseas so often.

The showrunner's latter point -- that Rory had financial help from someone else -- is probably closer to accurate (and Logan is most likely the one who should have footed that bill, anyway). Rory also had a trust fund from Richard and Emily (which was set up during the original series, fans may recall, and set to go into effect when she was in her mid-20s), and likely also got some money from Richard's will, so she probably wasn't hurting for spare cash. It seems the youngest Gilmore's definition of "broke" is a bit different from the rest of ours.

This concludes today's edition of Over-Analyzing "A Year in the Life." Stay tuned for more.
